Depends on your field I think, but I was applying for jobs at the beginning of final year - and some friends got jobs in like April (when we finished in November). I got an offer a month before final exams....
These days it's quite competitive so everyone wants to get in early!

its really hard to find a job in your major these days, and most depserate post college students just take any job that comes their way so that they can pay off thier heavy loans....
i know a guy who is smart as hell but he didn't even land a job until 4-5 years! i was like WOW...lol he just worked here and there for a few years till he found this one he like...
for me it only took me a month to find a job..., i took a month off after college to travel around...o.O

I'm still debating on whether to get a job or go for graduate school, and I'm graduating this summer! But if you are looking for a job, it is good to take advantage of your career center. Career fairs, on campus interviews, etc. are a good way to find jobs or internships.

ya i think it realy depends on ur field..
for me..i am graduating soon too..and i got a job already..but i think it is cuz for my university we have work experience..
but i know so ppl who doesn't have work experience..take like half a year or more to find a job...
and some end up jux doing other jobs that doesn't have to do with their fields..
but i guess at least then will have some work experience..and can slowly go back into their fields..

well I did a stage at some place during my last year of college, and they hired me after I graduated. If your school offer stages opportunities try it.

i'm guessing you mean graduate as in post secondary school? college/uni.
i think you can start job hunting whenever, so long as you think you can handle the school work load and work work load.
but then if companies only hire for full timers then you might want to reconsider.
but you can do part time then when you're out of school ask for full time position.
i hate school....

That's why it's important to get internships while in school. It's a MAJOR advantage.

2 weeks after I graduation.
It depends how picky you are when it comes to jobs. I was lucky to get the job I wanted and I'm still there.
A loit of students assume once they got the graduation from a certain program, it gives them piority to get any job they want. That is not true.

1 month after grad.
take ur time to find a job suitable for you tho. my first job had its pros and cons.
the internship that i was doing during the last semester at school turned into my full time job upon graduation.

It depends on which industry the job is in, some jobs are alot easier to find than others...after I graduated from HS, I looked for easy-to-find jobs like hairdressing, and I got a job within a week...I already have alot of experience by then cuz I also did a hairdressing course in TAFE while I was still in HS, so it was fairly easy for me to find a job in that field.

i never looked for a job after my education. the company where i worked my last co-op work term offered me a job before the work term finished. my project engineer at the time said he would hire me even if i didn't have a degree but he said i should probably finish the last year of my education. after graduation, i took a month off and then started working.
i would recommend you start looking for a position early. i'm not sure where you are but the job market isn't great in a number of fields right now. you are better served looking for a longer duration and finding a more suitable job than spending a lot of concentrated time and feeling pressured to accept a job that's less suitable for you.
i worked partime at this major bank during my studies, so when i got out, i went fulltime and transfered to the section i wanted to work in... ive since learned that a degree is useless, experience is everything...

i really depends on the industry. I'm in software and i was hired 2 months before i even graduated. A friend of mine was working full time at his first entry level position while he was finishing off his last course for his degree...

i havent graduated yet but it seems really hard to get a job, i know someone who has been searching for jobs since they graduated last may and they havent found any yet. It depends on the job field and i think IT is quite competitive so it is best to start early. im thinking of applying to graduate schemes

It really all depend on your major. But it hard to tell some might get a job within half a year some might be long. It hard to tell

I also got pretty lucky. I finished school half a year earlier so I was able to look for a job earlier as well. I got my job offer a month before school ended, and started work 3 weeks after my final. But I'm in Chemistry, so that might be different.
I have some friends who majored in different things and some of them can't find a job in their field yet. However, since they have a degree, it landed them in other higher ranked-better paid positions, which they are happy with anyways. So sometimes, even though you don't get a job in your respective field, you could land something much different and more enjoyable!

I've not actually found a proper job and i've graduated from college/university. I'm working part time at a shop for the time being while I try and find a job where I can start my career, which is taking its sweet arse time but I'm still trying...

I got a job right away but it was only part time. Now it's full-time

. I got that job because one of the professors mentioned to me that she had a job opening at the office she was working at and that's how I got the job. So I consider myself very very lucky because nowadays it's very hard to find a job in my profession. Businesses prefer you have a lot of experience so I recommend networking with people in your major or career field that way you can get your foot in the door.

I actually landed myself a fulltime job before I graduated. Well, at the time, I thought I was graduating, but the Faculty stuffed up my records, it turned out that I had to do another subject before they let me graduate. So I had to stay back another semester. It was tough, but I got through it ok. My employer at the time was very understanding too, they let me have extended lunch once a week so i can go attend my class... so that was an added bonus.

well,i did nothing for the first 3 months after graduation-just wanted to chill out after all that studying. Then once i actually started looking,it took me 6 months to find a job. Most jobs have many stages to go through and the whole recruitment process could take 2-3 months!

I agree with everyone else, the job market definitely depends heavily on your field of study. I graduated last May and got a job offer the same month. My friend had to look for a job for 3 month before she got an offer and she had to relocate to a different state.

I found my first job within one month after my graduation...but it was a sales/marketing executive position. I didn't realize it is all about sales until I got in. Anyway I am not suitable for that field so I resigned after a month. Found my current job a month later, and I am still here! It has now been a year, but I am looking to switch company now, but I will still remain in the same line (I am in the educational line)
its hard i grad a swell n i sitll looking after 7months i getting desperate i want a full time n a proper job not just 1 dat get me pay hopefully 1 dat gets me somewherre

It took me 3 months after graduation to get my first job. Those were long three months.
i agree that it depends on what area you are in and how specific (i.e. picky) you are. for me, i was in a co-op work program and so i was able to secure my job before leaving for my final year. i'm in computers and at that time was a bit of a recession but most of my friends started looking during their final year and most had jobs by the time we graduated.

It depends on what you are studying & what type of job you want. Obviously the sooner you send out your applications the better. It you still have a semester break before your final exams, it may be a good idea to do some work experience for free or something. That usually increases your chance of getting employment, & if the company is happy with u, they might decide to employ u before u graduate

actually the time depends on yourself.. if you are not so picky about your job description i think you wont have any matters finding jobs soon... try to apply for everything even though it's not under field... you might not know what might happened?

I did BIT as well but througout uni i always worked part-time apart from my final year. After graduating I also took some time out but mine was 2 months before looking and I go a job within a month.
I say it depends on how confident you are and also expierience.

It really didn't take me any time because I worked for my family business after that. Just after it closed, I had to find another job then, and it had been very long time to get my second job, more than 6 months if I wasn't wrong.
