New year decorations come in all shapes and sizes and even the traditional New Year Flowers are subject to a transformation. Shirley Yeung has been learning to make surprises from dough clay and she says: "I have always bought new year flowers and mandarins, but I have a new idea this year and that is to learn to make models from dough so that I can make some small New Year decorations that save space and will last longer. ( Will you be giving them out to everyone for the new year?) Let me make them prettier first!"

Although this is the first time she has made them, Shirley seems full of talent and she says: "The finished product looks very complicated, but in fact all you need are some simple tools like a pair of scissors and some tweezers, or you can even make them with your hands. Also many people think that if you have small hands, it would help, but in fact there is no link because the teacher says it is all down to expertise." For the new year, Shirley will be making sweets, mandarins and narcissus in the hope of good luck for the new year.

Recently, Hong Kong's weather has been continually cold and Shirley Yeung was filming for "Golden Egg of Ap Liu" with Ellesmere Choy yesterday in a wedding scene. Earlier because of the thin costumes, Shirley couldn't bear the cold and suffered from numb and cramping limbs and as a result the crew took her to hospital to seek medical attention.

Although she was unwell, Shirley still bore the cold, wearing a strappy wedding dress for her scene. She seemed a little lifeless and pale and told of the earlier incident: "When I got to the hospital, my arms and legs were so cold that they were numb. The virus was quite bad and I was quite ill that evening. The atmosphere at the hospital was quite horrifying because the patient in the next room was receiving emergency treatment and died in the end. The family were very upset afterwards."

When Shirley was asked if Gregory Lee was pained to see her unwell, she says: "Of course he was worried about me, he drove to the hospital to pick me up that day." When asked if she has asked for sick leave from the company, Shirley says: "I was going to take the day off that day, but because of the location, I couldn't take time off and had to do the scene. I was worried about catching a chill again today, so I am wearing three pairs of trousers and two warm packs together with a down jacket to keep warm." Shirley laughs: "Ellesmere and I had to film a kiss scene earlier and he laughed I was giving him the 'kiss of death'."

Continuing her role as spokesperson for Starrywood fashion, Shirley Yeung has filmed a set of promotional shots for their summer range, but the temperatures on that day fell sharply and it suddenly started raining heavily, so the crew had to improvise and move into a studio to carry on. Afterwards, Shirley said that it is not the first time that the skies have turned on her during a photoshoot: "Last time when we were filming the Autumn collection, we met with a Typhoon 8 and now we are faced with seasonal gales, it is such a coincidence."

Although they were in a makeshift base, this did not affect Shirley's performance as she followed the instructions of the photographer, jumping and stretching and being blown by a fan! Seeing her so 'summery' is she not afraid of catching cold again? She replied confidently: "No, I am not so weak! Anyway the crew have all prepared a lot of warm packs for me and a big coat, so I should get by okay." The sponsors praise Shirley for her professionalism and are considering asking her to do a TV ad for them.

Hong Kong people are putting more focus on health matters and Shirley will soon be applying for a yoga class and shooting a poster at TVB yesterday, she says: "I haven't stopped in the three years I have been in showbiz and my health has deteriorated a lot. I am hoping that when I have a holiday in the weeks to come, I can learn some yoga and help my old injuries." With the rare chance of a holiday, Shirley has no intentions on going on holiday abroad and says: "My grandma has kidney problems, so I hope to spend more time with her."

Also, Adam Cheng was scolded by his wife for flirting with girls in public. He says: "She pointed out that my daughters are growing up now and I should be more careful with my words. I didn't mean what I said, because it is all just words and I don't have the guts, so you don't need to worry." Talking of his telemovie having some sexy scenes, Adam was asked if he felt fortunate and he replied: "Yes, but you can't see it!"

Renewing her contract with Starrywood, Shirley Yeung recently filmed a set of summer line advertisements together with her precious pet dog "Mung Mung Ju", making him into an animal star! However, on the day of the shoot, Mung Mung Ju was very shy and not only was he looking around for his owner, it was frowning a lot and made the crew very worried. However, after a while, the dog became more accustomed to the cameras.

Unfortunately, after Shirley had finished shooting with the dog, she found some 'yellow substance' on her collar and she was very embarrassed. She says: "At first I thought it was poo poo, but then the crew told me that he had been to the gardens to play and it should just be mud, which is less embarrassing. (Was Mung Mung Ju paid for the work?) The most important thing is that it suits the ad, payment is not that important."

Shirley Yeung was a teacher before she entered the industry and yesterday she returned to her teaching college yesterday to share her thoughts on studies as well as helping with some fundraising activities. She says: "Recently the government has been cutting funding for education, so I have come to lend a hand. (How long has it been since you came back to school?) Each time I come back there is a warm feeling, firstly because the dorms are very nice and also the views nearby are very familiar. It makes me remember the times when my friends used to have big cook-outs."

In response to the recent reports of schoolyard violence, Shirley says she has been very concerned and sighs: "In the past when I was doing teaching practice in a primary school, the naughty students were just very mouthy, but now they are resorting to violence. (Are you afraid to teach any more?) I don't think we need to worry so soon because the situation is not that bad! If the parents and the students unite, then there should be no problem that cannot be overcome."

"Blade Heart" began airing last night and some cast members including Shirley Yeung, Gregory Lee, Mimi Lo and Carlo Ng were interviewed on a Metro Radio show. As Shirley and Gregory are publicly dating, Mimi and Carlo mocked them during the show pretending to kiss and hold hands before talking them into holding hands to have their picture taken, but they were obviously very embarrassed and flushed.

As Shirley and Gregory fell in love whilst filming this show, it has become their matchmaker. Shirley laughs: "Many thanks to Catherine Tsang for giving me this opportunity to take part in this show, I would never have dreamed that I would have met Gregory." At this point, Carlo grasps the chance to make a joke and says: "People say thank you when they get an award, why are you saying thank you? Are you saying thank you for finding a good date for you? Ha ha!"

Talking of the end of "Lady Fan" gaining a high of 31 points and then "Blade Heart" taking over, are they worried about having to carry on the good ratings? They all say that they are confident because this show has Liza Wang and Adam Cheng and they will guarantee support. Carlo adds that the first two weeks will have a lot of Liza and Adam's scenes so they will have good ratings. If Shirley and Gregory announce their wedding then it will be even better news, but the two say it is not time to get married just yet.

Shirley Yeung and Tavia Yeung appeared as guests at a haircare promotion yesterday and although they do not know if they will become sponsors, they still received a handsome fee. The girls did a catwalk show with some other models and were also given samples of all the products.

Since entering the industry, Shirley has had long hair all along but she says she had short hair when she was at school, but she cried when she had it cut. When she was filming for "Loving You" (The Threat of Love), she wore a short wig for filming and she felt it looked strange. Shirley says that she would like to make a shampoo advertisement because the female stars all have long hair like a waterfall and she is very envious.

The ratings for her new show "Blade Heart" have not met expectations and when asked if she was worried about this, Shirley says there are thirty-six episodes in total and maybe the audience are just too busy and not getting home in time to watch. However, her friends and family all say it is very good and she believes there are other supportive viewers. Will Shirley think that it is not worth her injury if the show does not do well? She laughs: "Not at all." Is it because she has already earned herself a boyfriend? She smiles sweetly and says that everyone was very happy during filming.

At the end of the month, Shirley will be going to South Africa to film a travel special and then she will be going to Sri Lanka for more filming. When it was suggested she has the luck to go travelling, Shirley says that she loves travelling and when she was studying she would often visit many places with her friends. After entering showbiz, she has not been able to fit the time in and so has not been able to join them. She would most like to visit Australia and Tibet. When asked if she will go with her boyfriend, she says that they are both busy, but maybe they can go away together filming in the future and make a holiday out of it. Being away from her boyfriend whilst filming, the reporters have suggested that she should get a 3G phone so that they can see each other. Shirley smiles sweetly again and says to hear his voice is already enough.

Tavia says she likes keeping long hair because there are many advantages. She hopes that she will have the chance to make shampoo adverts because they are beautifully filmed and afterwards she can refuse to cut her hair if the company asks her to do so for dramas.

When Tavia was asked if she would cut her hair if her boyfriend didn't like it, she says that this is up to her and she will not compromise for anyone, including a boyfriend. When asked if she likes long haired men, she admits that some men with long hair are very stylish, but thinking of the summertime when the men are dripping with sweat, she feels that the short military look is better.

A group of cast members from "Blade Heart" including Liza Wang, Shirley Yeung, Raymond Lam, Gregory Lee and Mimi Lo held a promotional event at the Lifai Martial Arts Centre yesterday and underwent some instruction by Li Fai herself in Taijiquan and Taiji Sword. However, Shirley and Mimi's stance was rather flimsy and caused a few laughs for everyone.

Shirley and boyfriend Gregory arrived at the event early and as the activity had not yet started, Shirley picked up a sword and did a few moves with the help of Gregory and put on a very loving scene. Afterwards, Shirley was asked if she felt her boyfriend was very caring and she immediately changed the subject saying: "Don't keep talking about this, why don't you ask about my work? I want to be a heroine!" Although she says she does not want to mention her romance, she then went on to say that Gregory has learned swordplay from Li Fai when he was young so he will teach her a few moves. When asked if she has martial arts potential, she smiles: "Martial arts requires hard work and persistance."

Raymond Lam is not disappointed with the ratings of "Blade Heart" only reaching an average of 27 points and laughs: "This show needs to be savoured slowly, plus you will see more of me later on in the show." He admits that the show is rather deep and serious and a little tragic, but he feels that as it is a martial arts classic, then people will like it.

Having just returned from a meeting in Beijing, Liza immediately threw herself into promoting the show and in response to the ratings results, she says honestly that she is not satisfied, but she does not hope for a particular rating. When asked if she feels pressure from the ratings, she says: "No pressure, because we have all done our best. (Some critics have said that the series is too depressing with so much killing and fighting?) Martial arts shows are never far off from seeking vengeance." She then asked in return about the reviews and indicated this is the most important thing.

Earlier when Liza was in Beijing, there were reports that she had openly commented that TVB had cut her shows to one a year. Yesterday, she clarified there was no such incident and that it was a misunderstanding by the reporter. In truth, when she signed her contract, it was clearly indicated how many shows she would do and she has not had this reduced. Other reports suggest that Liza will not be filming any more series because it is too hard work, but still drawing a high salary and making TVB feel she is hard to please. To this, Liza says a little agitatedly: "As an artiste, working hard is to be expected and is right, so I will not talk about this to anyone else. (Are you angry at the report?) No, but I hope they will report the truth because this will affect my image. Just look at the hard work that went into 'Blade Heart' and you will see if I found it difficult." As for how many shows Liza has signed for a year, she says it is a secret and insists that for her external work, she will take leave from TVB and extend her contract accordingly and so it is nothing like the reports.

Sonija Kwok, Charmaine Sheh, Shirley Yeung, Mrs Li Hau Wo and 'King of Toys' Mr Choi Chi Ming were the guests at the opening of the designer watch expo yesterday and Mr Choi immediately spent $560,000 on a pair of his 'n hers watches and a diamond watch.

With three pretty girls as guests, they attracted quite an audience, among them many tourists. During this, one man shouted that Sonija was 'very pretty' and this made her very happy as she accepted the compliment proudly and asked the reporters what else the man had said. When the reporters replied that with her beautiful outfit, all the men would be mesmerised, Sonija laughed that as she has been playing a nurse in her new show "Wandering Hero Medics", then she should be able to assist those who are stunned by her!

Yesterday evening, Sonija was filming for the show again and the scene told of a caesarian section. When asked whether she would have a caesarian birth, she says that she has played a pregnant woman in the past that had a smooth birth. Although it was just acting, she still felt that having children would be very painful, so she may choose to give birth by caesarian in the future. When the reporters laughed about whether she was worried about leaving a scar on her belly, she says that to have a baby and be a mother, then having a scar is not a problem.

As well as receiving a fee for her work at yesterday's event, Sonija was also given two watches worth over $10,000. She says that as it is Mother's Day next month, she can give one to her mother as a present and save herself some money. However, she reveals that she has been looking for a crucifix necklace because whilst she was filming earlier, she lost the one that her father gave her for her 18th birthday. As there was a lot of sentimental value attached to that pendant, she is looking for a replacement that is exactly the same.

With her style usually very conservative, Shirley Yeung appeared at yesterday's event in a rather sexy attire and although she wasn't quite as revealing as Sonija and Charmaine, this was already a great change from her usual image. Whilst filming for "Angels of Mission" (Nameless Angels 3D) Shirley was rumoured to have been bullied by Sonija and Charmaine and at yesterday's event, Sonija and Charmaine were still just talking to each other and leaving Shirley out. However, Shirley stood to one side and kept to herself.

Shirley was also given a set of watches for her work yesterday and was asked whether she would give one to her boyfriend. She says that she and her boyfriend do not like to wear matching watches, but most of what she sees at the expo are his 'n hers designs. Has Shirley received any memorable presents in the past? She says that as long as she has some good memories, that is all she needs.

Shirley says that she has been doing a lot of openings recently and earned a lot of extra money, suggesting her rise in popularity could be down to the recent airing of "Blade Heart". She laughs that not only has she been doing openings, she has also negotiated three advertisements. With the recent rise in illegal downloading of music and even TV series such as "Angels of Mission", Shirley points out this is unlawful and urges everyone to wait until it is aired before they watch it.

For Charmaine, as well as receiving a six-figure fee for her work, she also received a pair of ladies watches and the organisers also lent her a set of jewellery workth over $1million for her to wear at the event. When asked why she didn't ask for a set of lovers' watches, she seemed a little surprised at the question before frowning and saying that she has not been given a men's watch and the two watches were for her own use.

Benny Chan was recently alleged to have spent the night with another woman, before it was confirmed that it was a case of mistaken identities and the paper apologised publicly for the mistake. When Charmaine was asked whether she knew of Benny's return to Hong Kong, she immediately replied impatiently that she did not know. Then when asked if she had contacted him about the incident, she said, getting agitated: "No!"

Later, Charmaine will be heading out to Hawaii to visit her mother and when asked why she does not take her boyfriend back to see her mother, she became annoyed and said she would be going back on her own. When reporters continued asking her whether she will be introducing her mother to her boyfriend, she indicated that she would not reply to such pointless questions.

This is the first time Shirley has worked with Alex and she feels that this is a very fresh arrangement and she hopes there will be some chemistry and something new for the audience.

Shirley's boyfriend Gregory Lee will be celebrating his birthday on 18th and she says she will buy him a present and go for a meal with him. As for the suggestion from Gregory's big brother Wing Hon that they should have kids soon, she smiles sweetly and says: "My dogs at home have had puppies, so they are always joking around!" TVB's "Angels of Mission" (aka Nameless Angels 3D) starring Sonija Kwok, Charmaine Sheh, Shirley Yeung and Patrick Tam will begin airing on 24th after "Hard Fate" and yesterday a special premiere party was held where the female leads all wore diamond jewellery to the value of over $3million and were flanked by security guards all evening. Gilbert Lam and Timmy Hung were also present at the glittering event.

Although Shirley has not close scenes with men in the show, she says she has still picked up a few tips on how to manipulate men from the show.

Niki Chow, Bernice Liu, Shirley Yeung and Kevin Cheng appeared at an opening ceremony for a Japanese Drinking House yesterday and received a hefty lucky packet from the bosses. Although Niki has been in the industry for a while, this was her first store opening and she laughs that her father had a printing company when she was younger and there was an opening ceremony there, but only men were allowed to cut the ribbon and there were no women there.

At her first opening, Niki dressed rather casually and was overshadowed by Bernice and Shirley somewhat. However, Niki feels that she has dressed up for the occasion as she says: "Our images are different, no matter how hard I try, I will not be beautiful." However, she used to be a model, so shouldn't she be able to dress up? She laughs that her figure is not as good as the others so she can't help the focus falling on them because Bernice was a Miss Chinese International winner and Shirley was a Miss Hong Kong, so they do have a great poise. In fact, Niki has tried to act more ladylike than usual and laughs that she shouldn't have lost out by much and it is all healthy anyway.

Niki went out to Beijing recently with Eason Chan to promote their latest movie and with the SARS outbreak, Niki says that she had a sore throat when she set out, so she wore a mask all the way there. However, she says there is nothing unusual in Beijing and there was only her wearing a mask!

Having recently completed a slimming programme, Bernice has been showing off her figure in sexy clothes recently and at the ceremony yesterday, she wore a backless dress to show herself off. When asked how much she would earn for the job, she laughed that it was a happy price. Earlier, Bernice was ill and the side effects from her medication left her bloated and her weight went up to 130 lbs. Luckily the recent slimming regime has helped her to lose nearly 10 lbs and this has given her the confidence to wear the revealing dress.

Having been chosen as a guest at Sam Hui's concert in June, Bernice has been practising her singing hard, even though she has just recovered from problems with her larynx. She reveals that when she is rehearsing with Sam and the other girls, Sam told them to relax and this helps with her nerves, but Sam is still very serious about his work. With Sam's concert receiving a very warm reception, he has added an extra 8 shows, but Bernice doesn't know whether she will be able to take part in these. She says that when her parents found out she was taking part in Sam's concert, they immediately bought tickets to return to Hong Kong in June, so she really hopes she can get a pair of tickets for her parents. Her mother has been a fan of Sam for a long time and seeing her daughter having the chance to work with him, she is very proud. Bernice laughs that her mother wants to be with her backstage, but really just wants to see Sam and have a photo with him.

Shirley has always dressed very conservatively in the past, but since it was suggested that she was losing the limelight to Sonija Kwok and Charmaine Sheh, she has changed her image to a more seductive one. Yesterday at the event, she wore a very sexy but beautiful dress. However, Shirley says that she is not trying to be sexy, but just dressing for the event. She also reveals that half of what she was wearing was sponsored.

Shirley will soon begin filming a new show where she plays a character who likes researching into food, but Shirley is not a very good cook herself in real life and only cooks once in a while. So how can she play house with her boyfriend? She laughs that she has made a steak for her boyfriend before, but he didn't offer her any praise, maybe he felt that this dish was too easy.

Also, reported to have been promoted heavily by TVB, Kevin has been playing a police officer in the new series "Fight for Every Moment", but his character has a rather shady personality and this has affected his mood whilst during the filming. Kevin hopes that he will have a chance to film a comedy soon because in the past he has always played either rich or pretty boy characters and he does not want to do these roles any more. He would most like to play a market stall man or a rough character.

TVB will be holding another special show on Sunday in the build up to the Olympic Games entitled "Lighting of the Flame Thundering Night" and there will be many special guest singers and artistes present on the night, including Leon Lai, Ekin Cheng, Miriam Yeung, Hacken Lee and Nancy Sit along with the usual group of Olympic Stars and over three thousand members of the public.

In order to mark the event, a press conference was held yesterday and was attended by the event MC's Carol Cheng, Chin Ka Lok and Vincent Kuk. Also at the promotion were Edmond Leung, Leo Ku, Don Li, Rain Li, Raymond Lam, Shirley Yeung, Sammul Chan and Bosco Wong. On stage, they each took turns to play games such as walking the beam. When Edmond mounted the beam, Chin Ka Lok joked: "You have to pass an alcohol detection test before you can do sport! You appear to have been a good boy this time and seem to be wide awake!" When Edmond heard this, he did a one-legged stance as well as a cartwheel, really putting his all into the game.

Led by the three beauties Sonija Kwok, Charmaine Sheh and Shirley Yeung, "Angels of Mission" will begin airing next Monday, but some internet sites are advertising openly that all twenty episodes can already be downloaded. Although these downloads are only available for members, the copyright belongs to TVB and no matter if they are charging or not, then it is still illegal. However, many of TVB's series have been illegally pirated in the past by criminals who want to make a fast buck.

TVB's External Affairs Assistnat Director Tsang Sing Ming responded to this saying: "'Angels of Mission' was made by TVB and the copyright belongs to the company, so any such uses of the series are all illegal. TVB has always targeted infringements of intellectual property and downloads from the internet are obviously illegal. We will follow the methods of dealing with these incidents in the past and first request that they stop these activities before we start taking legal action to resolve this."

As for one of the stars Shirley Yeung, she comments on this incident, saying: "If this is illegally breaching copyright laws, then of course it is not right." Is she worried this will affect the ratings for the show? She says: "I am not too worried about that, because I believe that many viewers will support the show in the correct way."

TVB's "Angels of Mission" will begin airing next Monday and yesterday the cast members including Charmaine Sheh, Shirley Yeung, Shek Sau, Stephen Au, So Man Tak and Wong Tak Ban went to sponsors "3D Gold" for a promotional event, where they all put on fighting poses. The third angel Sonija Kwok was absent due to illness.

Although the cast worked hard at the event, but with the recent discovery of a free download of the series on the internet, the producer Leung Wing Yin says that this will be dealt with accordingly by the company. He says that many series are copied by these criminals, allowing the hard work of all the production crew to be obtained in just an hour or two. This is a serious crime and he hopes that the government will address this.

Charmaine also feels helpless about this, but she feels that this has happened already and there is nothing they can do. Although it is not healthy, she says that they should look at it from another angle and see that it proves people are anticipating the series very much and she hopes that the viewers will still support the show when it airs. She says: "Actually, it is really diffcult to prevent, but luckily it is only a small number of people who download from the net and as long as people watch when it is aired, then it is okay."

Charmaine will soon be heading out to Malaysia and the UK to promote the overseas rental markets and will not need to do any filming for a while. She laughs that it is like a holiday. It will be her birthday soon and she plans to celebrate with a group of family and friends as she feels this will be safer. The press took the chance to ask her about whether her rumoured boyfriend Benny Chan will be here to celebrate with her, but she says: "I don't know if he will be back, why don't you ask him? What does my birthday have to do with him?" Charmaine's birthday wish is to make more great series and for good health and happiness for herself and the people around her. When Charmaine mentioned that she is getting old now with another birthday, the reporters also asked her if she has ever thought about retiring after filming for so many years. As well as being busy promoting "Angels", Shirley has recently been filming for new series "Treasure in the Family" and today she will be filming a beach scene with Belinda Hamnett. With the airing of the first episode of "Angels" being on a day when Shirley had no filming, she was able to enjoy the show at home. In the series, Shirley plays a great aim with a gun and it turns out that Shirley had been in contact with firearms at at young age as her father was a soldier so whenever there was an open day, she was able to go and look around the armoury. Talking of Charmaine's tummy trouble, has Shirley called her to wish her well? She replies that she hasn't saying only: "I hope she will get some rest, the weather at the moment is up and down and it is easy to get unwell."

Although Charmaine was unable to attend, she still hoped that the show will do well and with the skincare company she represents receiving complaints, Charmaine felt she ought to explain the situation, even though the complaint was later retracted. She says: "Before I became the spokesperson for this product, I had looked at the analysis report carefully and I know that the product undergoes rigorous testing and will not cause allergic reactions to the skin, so not only do I use the product myself, I recommend it to my friends."

The Hong Kong Brodcasting Association has issued a strong recommendation to TVB after upholding complaints about an earlier Miss Hong Kong promotional clip showing Shirley portraying a boring and unmotivated teacher whose life was changed after entering Miss Hong Kong. The commission felt that this was a bad reflection on the teaching profession and could cause a bad influence to young people. There was also a complaint upheld about the deletion of acceptance speeches at this years Hong Kong Film Awards and a total of 431 complaints were filed against TVB for these two incidents and the company was instructed to follow the broadcasting regulations more closely.

Shirley denies degrading the teaching profession and hopes that people will understand her position. As for TVB's external affairs assistant director Tsang Sing Ming, he says that the clip was withdrawn when the complaints were received and that they will learn from this lesson. He also goes on to deny reports that TVB will be axing another two hundred jobs, saying that the restructuring of the engineering teams means that there will be ten or so redundancies, but these have been dealt with in accordance with all the employment rules and procedures.

In the next step of TVB's road to the Olympics, the launch party for June 12th's "Number 1 Celebrity Land Games" and July 17th's "Number 1 Celebrity Water Games" was held yesterday at the Miramar Hotel in a swearing in ceremony entitled "Athens Olympics - Creating a New Path Together" attended by over two hundred artistes representing over twenty different shows who all received their battle orders from General Manager Chan Chi Wan. The competitions are open for any teams grouped in series and shows to take part with guest team members from the singers and other people being placed into Nat Chan's team. The company has put up prizes worth $2 million to encourage the artistes to take part.

The atmosphere was electric, but
the enthusiasm for the water games was not as great as the land games. As a result, Mr Chan picked out top swimmers and former Hong Kong team representatives Alex Fong (Lik San), Tang Ho Kwong, Lee Kai Gam and Szeto Shui Kei to take part, but Alex and Tang Ho Kwong have refused, not giving in to TVB's wish for a showdown. Variety and sporting shows Section Manager Wong Ka Leung responded to the result that the water games were less popular, saying that they want to get the land games sorted first and if this goes well then more people will volunteer for the water games. The games aim to promote the Olympic spirit and team work and Mr Chan also hopes that the contest will help the artistes to relax, have some fun and take a break from their pressurised jobs.

Mr Chan also went on to clarify the rumours about TVB's most recent spate of redundancies, insisting that there is no such operation in place and people left after the studio relocation projects were completed. Some people were offered alternative positions and others were terminated due to poor performance. Once the company restructure is in place, they will be taking on more staff, including more artistes and singers.

Cutie Mui represented her show "Friday Variety" and their team wore a totally red outfit, chanting their slogan, displaying great unity and were the most outstanding team on the day. Mr Chan joked when he saw them and asked: "Is your underwear all red as well?"

Among the artistes present at the event were Alex Fong, Flora Chan, Gigi Lai, Christine Ng, Jade Kwan, Shirley Yeung, Ron Ng, Raymond Lam, Fiona Yuen and this year's Miss Hong Kong contestants. The interest in the water games was especially low among the female artistes as Shirley Yeung says: "I can run, but I'd have to think about swimming." Wong Yeuk Tung is not a strong swimmer, so she does not want to take part and come last. Even Ron Ng has said he will only take part in the land games, with only Bosco Wong putting himself forward for the water games.

Mr Chan also revealed that the budget for the broadcast of this year's Olympics will total $50 million and they have secured exclusive rights to co-operate with China's Central Television Company.

Shirley Yeung and Hawick Lau were filming yesterday for new series "Treasure in the Family" in a scene where Hawick is causing trouble at a wedding party and in the commotion, Shirley is hot by a cake in the face due to her happy rival in the show Hawick jumping away at the right time. Hawick laughs: "Of course in real life I would not jump away, I would grab Shirley and lie down to avoid it." However, when this was heard, a reporter joked: "You wouldn't stop it for a Miss Hong Kong, but maybe for a Miss Chinese International Bernice Liu!". Alex Fong Lik San was filming with Shirley Yeung on location for "Treasure in the Family" yesterday and on his first day of filming for the show, Alex was arranged to have a shoe thrown at him by co-star Karen Lee Choi Ling in a scene where he is hit on the head by a shoe before bumping into a lamp post and fainting. Despite being a grown man, Alex was professional and didn't mind 'playing with Choi Ling's shoes' as he took the show to measure the position, sniffing it several times before having it thrown at him. Karen laughs: "Does my shoe smell nice?"

Yesterday's storyline tells of Shirley wanting to get a nude baby picture back from Alex's bag, so she follows him and as her friend Karen becomes impatient, she uses the 'flying slipper' to knock Alex out and retrieve the photo. Shirley laughs that Alex's fate is similar to hers the day before and when Alex was asked whether he was afraid of starting rumours working with Shirley, he turned the joke onto her, saying: "Hasn't she already got married? I read the papers and it referred to her as the Lee family daughter-in-law... she has someone already, so we won't be intentionally avoiding each other." He goes on to joke that he has plenty of 'girlfriends', such as Gillian, Rain and Stephy, but they are all false.

As an idol pop star, is Alex worried he might be scarred by the flying shoe and the bump on the lamp post? Alex responded seriously saying that his future work will be concentrating on action shows, so this is small fry in comparison. He also laughs: "Scar? How important is the face... only with a scar are you considered mature, see how stylish Jacky Cheung looks."

Hearing Alex's words, Shirley Yeung returns the favour, saying: "Who is getting married so soon? I am not worried about rumours, he has plenty of choices anyway. Shirley Yeung, Hawick Lau and Alex Fong were filming in Kowloon Tong for "Treasure in the Family" yesterday. The scene tells of Hawick declaring his love for Shirley and as they gaze deeply into each other's eyes, they naturally share a kiss, but Alex who secretly admires Shirley watches on enviously.

During the filming, Alex was particularly mischievous as he used his phone to take photos of Shirley and Hawick when they kissed and even filmed them with the video camera, also giving them hints on how to kiss when they watched the playback in between takes. In the end, they had to kiss three times before the director was happy with the shot and Alex laughed after the second take: "If this carries on, let me do the kissing!" Alex was later asked whether he has plenty of kissing experience, making him such an expert. He says: "I have experience of a first kiss, but not in front of the camera because I have never filmed any kissing scenes. (If you had to film a kiss scene, who would you choose?) Anyone will do!" He also says that this could be taken that is is not fussy, or it could be taken that he'll have anyone who comes!

As for Hawick, who has filmed kissing scenes before, he seemed extremely nervous about the scenes and before the shoot, he kept asking the director when they would be filming. Before the shoot, he took a few deep breaths and the director had to tell him not to get so excited. Hawick admitted he was rather nervous and laughed: "It was a good job there were no tongues needed, otherwise it would have been even more embarrassing. The most surprising thing was how excited Alex was - when he had a scene earlier where he had to give Shirley a piggyback, he was already extremely happy!"

Shirley indicated that she was quite nervous beforehand, but found herself very calm when the actual scene was filmed and she never imagined how nervous Hawick would be. The director made them shoot several takes because he felt that the girl was taking the lead too much. Shirley was also asked if she had brushed her teeth beforehand, she laughs that she had not brushed her teeth, but she did chew some gum. She indicated that this is not her first kiss scene and she did not have to notify her boyfriend.

TVB series "Treasure in the Family" had a celebratory dinner to mark the end of filming, where the cast and crew occupied three tables in a Tsimshatsiu restaurant. Leading stars Alex Fong, Shirley Yeung, Hawick Lau and Sam Chan were there and Hawick arrived with a dozen bottles of red wine. However, Alex and Shirley both refused to drink on the grounds they are not well and they have to drive later, with Alex saying: "I can take my alcohol, but I can't drink tonight because I have a throat infection and don't feel too well."

Also, Alex indicates that he is very happy with this filming experience because the other artistes are like a real family, so he will miss them after the filmiing is over. He says: "I have learned a lot of things from making this series and I am very happy to have made so many friends. Completing this show has proved that I am not afraid of TVB and if I get the chance, I would very much like to film for them again."

Also, Shirley indicates that she has confirmed as being one of the guest performers at this year's Miss Hong Kong Pageant as she says excitedly: "Although I don't know what I will be performing yet, I am very pleased to be one of the guests and as I will be guest starring at Sam Hui's concerts again in August, I have learned from the experiences last time and will be doing a lot of preparation so that I don't lose my breath."
