well for some.. they might look good or whatever... but for me.. these koreans are really annoying.. plus the fact that they are really getting famous across asia just bec. of so much exposure.. how about the others.. I love Korea dramas. The couples are usually very refreshing unlike TVB. I don't dislike much Korean actresses/actors...maybe just Chae Rim. She's okay but for some reason, I just don't like watching her act.

For me:

Overrated: Rain- he's a great dancer, but singin is not that good. And Korea has many great dancers. But he's pretty good in acting. I've seen full house, the first korean drama I ever finished...

I think Rain is really overrated. He's good at dancing but I think he's not that grand as everyone think he is. He got lucky w/ his drama full house when it hit HK. People in HK, in my opinion, are easily crazed over things. I liked full house (even though the drama didn't have a real plot). I don't think he deserves all that attention he's getting.

i wouldn't know....but is SS501 really not recognized or underrated?...even after winning great awards in the entertainment industry for not even being in it for at least 2 years?...how sad...well they haven't been in the industry for a long time...i would see why...but i SUPPORT SS501 ALL THE WAY!!!! love 'em!

Overrated or underrated?

OVERRATED-I failed to see any of Korean singers and Group are overrated.All of them are famous cuz they're really talented.

UNDERRATED-Can't think of anybody right now!But anyway if the artist put more effort,they will get famous one day.

I'm not a fan of DBSK but I don't agree that DBSK is overrated cuz they're the best korea group in dancing.In singing,all group in korea sing very good.In dancing,DBSK even more outstanding than the other group.So they deserved to be famous.But i don't like that they always lip-sync in their performance cuz they care more on their dancing and they scared they couldn't sing well while dancing.But i'm very sure that a lot of artist/group also lip-sync if there's dancing.Their dancing awsome!

As for Rain,At first i always thought Rain is overrated but after i went to his concert,i'm so impressed of his excellent performance and his great charisma.
For me i think he had a nice deep voice,I agree that he wasn't that profesional in singing but he surely can sing .In his latest world tour,Rain sang 21 songs in his concert mostly are fast song,He dance for all 18 songs,he could only rest during the 3 songs that he don't need to dance..He manage to sing
greatly and dance powerfully without lip-sync for all of his songs in the concert,even slow song he also dance for 2 hours.Overall,the concert was a great success.Moreover,he not only sing but he acts(very well),he create his own dance.
Rain's famous not because of he's good in dancing and singing cuz every singer knows that.He's famous cuz of his super great and outstanding charisma and body language on stage and he always come out with new image.Lots of singer when they dance and sing,they looked too carefull and focus on their dancing cuz scared forget their steps while singing,making their performance looked weird and because of they're too focus on dancing,they just perform..didn't interact with their audience very well and no facial expression.But Rain could perform very well without care so much on his dancing.He just dance,sing,interact with fans,great facial expression,create free-style movement.That's y ppl are dying to see his performance.

I think you guys should look at their performance b4 saying their overrated.I'm not their fans but i'm quite impressed with their performance.

Underrated would be Younha she is really good. she has a Korean album out. its really good. she has a great voice and she can play the piano like theres no tomarrow.

Overrated- Def. DBSK, Bi & hyori

I'm not that much of a fan of DBSK I do admire the friendship of U-know & Jae but that's it other then that I don't see what's such a big hype about them. I'm not really into there music & the dancing is the same as any other dancer, so I dunno what's the hype?

Bi yeah I admit he is overrated. Now I'm a fan of his and I do like him but I agree performance/dancing wise it's good but vocal/singing AVERAGE...especially after hearing Man Up is vocals are just average nothing unqiue or special but I still like him.

Hyori- I like her, she's pretty & she knows how to dance but I don't know I think she is getting a little overrated now.

Underrated- Epik High & Mo'phatt I love there materials and I don't see them getting that much notice so I hope that get hyped up more.

- SG Wannabe....they have the most amazing voices...their ballads will send goosebumps all over you and chills up your spine...they are that good...I'm in love with all their songs...there's not one I can think of that has disappointed me...

- TAKE....they've been pretty quiet lately but hopefully their second release which is coming soon...will spark them up again...yet again another korean group who's voices are simply superb! Listen to Butterfly Grave...you will never be the same again.

- Paran...they are really good vocally...the rapping is awesome as well...did I mention they are cute? And they can sing in Korean, Thai and Chinese?

- Eru...one of the best individual ballad singer I know. He's got the voice and the look.

I don't listen to a LOT of Kpop, so you'll excuse me if there are artists that I don't mention (not to mention I don't know statistics; these are just observations I've made). Plus, in reality they might not be this underrated/overrated... it's just what I THINK.

Overrated
Jang Ri In: Yeah, yeah, yeah, she was trained since she was 13. Yeah, she's got a powerful voice. Yeah, she's supposed to "lead" the third Hallyu into China... whatever. If you've ever heard her sing live, she's horrific! She's gotten loads better, but she misses that stage presence and charisma that makes powerful performers. Her voice is too strained and she sings in all the wrong way(s). Great and sweet personality, perhaps, but I definitely think her singing is much overrated. She was purported to be the Asian Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey or something... and she fell VERY short of the mark.

Hyori Lee: Now, I think she's gorgeous and I won't deny the fact that she can dance well and that she's really hot... but she's not that good of a singer and I really don't think her songs are that catchy. Not to mention I can't see her S-line at all! All the media boasts and talks about is her S-line and I see... "the top" but I really think that she still has a very Asian butt (that is, none). So I def. think she's overrated...not because solely of her looks, but I'll take talent anyday over looks, and the fact that people see "something" where I can't see "anything" kinda confuses me.

Bi/Rain: Not that good of a singer, pretty good dancer, but his choreography is achingly simple. Many people can do his dances... they're not that difficult at all. Plus, I don't even think he's quite as attractive. Nice body, maybe... but his face leaves much to be desired.

BoA: I think she's a great performer and can dance and has stage charisma like no other. But I also think she's a bit of a snob and a bit full of herself, especially recently. Not to mention I don't think her voice is anything particularly special... it just is the product of much training and concentration. I'm not saying she completely lacks natural talent... she just has a very "normal" voice. Just like how some people sing very normally.... lots of training can really polish up a voice and make it at a professional caliber... but natural talent is natural talent and a unique voice is a unique voice... and I think BoA lacks both those things in abundance. Nothing particularly awe-inspiring or unique or strong. People argue that her voice is strong and powerful. Yes, but it's also quite nasally and she sings almost exclusively in her chest voice, so when she hits higher registers... it sounds too pitchy and sounds like she's screeching. Some people find that part of her "unique" flair... I just consider it irritating.

Underrated
Cheong San Ji Hee (CSJH/TSZX): A girl-band under SM Entertainment that has gotten little-to-no promotion and despite being around for 4 years (or more), they've only released a handful of singles and *I think* one full album (if you can count it as that). They're all really talented (arguably, more than Jang Ri In who has gotten huge promotion and more attention than these girls and they certainly deserve it more than JRI) and yet suffer from no promotion and some anti-fans (probably because they were toted as the "girl DBSK"). They're all great dancers, and have fantastic and unique voices... so they definitely deserve to be noticed... but they're not.

Sunmin: I don't know how popular she is in Korea, but from what I've observed... not a lot of people seem to have heard of her. She's purported to be "Jang Ri In's rival" despite being several years older than JRI. Despite that, she debuted under Good Entertainment (with Shinhwa) and also came out with a duet (in Korean and Japanese; in the Korean she sings with Hyesung) at around the same time JRI debuted with "Timeless." I definitely think she has a better and stronger voice than JRI. It's more mature, more developed, and trained better... and arguably stronger. Her lives are incredible (as opposed to JRI's pathetic lives; "pathetic" may be a little harsh here) and she sings with great passion and emotion and you DON'T hear strain... her voice is a delight. She definitely deserves more recognition than she's been getting presently.

Tei: I see very little stuff about him, but I definitely think that he's really really talented and has an incredibly strong and unique voice! He was scouted through a Korean karaoke website! So he has this chameleon-like ability to imitate virtually any singer out there...! Which is super cool! Unfortunately, I don't think he's "that good looking" so it probably contributes to the fact that he doesn't have as much appeal as his peers/counterparts (SE7EN, DBSK, FTTS, etc).

Overrated
So far, can't really think of one, because to me, I think most of the Korean singers/groups deserve what they are acknowledged and what they have by now...

Underrated
Battle: I'm not a huge fan, but I've heard their songs and I do think they should be more well-known and recognised by people... what a shame, NOBODY I know here are told who/what is Battle... They can dance, sing, have healthy images, appealing etc... and I remember one or two members know(s) how to play a musical instrument? So, it is possible that they will step into song-writing in the future... They have been in the entertainment industry for quite some time now, since they debuted the end of last year, and I still don't get it why they're not publicized very well I have seen some derisive remarks given in this forum, and I was very surprised to find people disliking them though... this makes me wonder if Battle REALLY doesn't deserve to be under the lime light?

PPl say DBSK is overrated that I might oppose. They're have good looks, all five can sing (unlike many industrial groups, there're only 1 or 2 vocals), they all can dance well (not to where se7en is but as a group their dancing is way better than other groups), they sing varied gernes which convey large amount of fans, their songs are catchy, etc. List goes on. It's not because they're best at singing or dancing (of course, there're singers who can sing better or dance smoother), it's because they have the complete package that youngters want. Though their incredibly good looks contribute a big part, they sure have the talents to back it up

Underrated: Epik High. Their songs are so meaningful and deep but unfortunately they don't possess the hot looks or interesting dancing clips to compete with others. I was surprised at first, wondering why didn't I know them before despite the fact that they're have been around for quite long?

OVERRATED: Lee Hyori come on she`s only popular because of her sexy image, she`s not a great dancer or singer, she just has a "good body" (because she`s not that hot, if you see in most of her pics she has a belly)

UNDERRATED: CSJH these girl can sing, maybe not Stephanie hahaha, she`s only there to dance, but they have nice songs and ca dance

Underrated means that they are very talented but they don't get the recognition and and praise they deserve. For instance, there may a singer you think is wonderful, but they don't sell alot of records or get awards.

i agree with RAIN being overrated !!! i think there are better dancers. but i still like his songs... not to be a ANTI or something. i think BRIAN, ANDY is underrated.. i think SHINHWA comes in between. they are neither overrated or underrated. its quite difficult to get there.

Over-rated: Super Junior , Boa, and DBSK.
Boa I just think her popularity doesn't match with her talent.
Super Junior isn't very talented to me at all. Plus there are too many people in the group to really see any of the member's individual talent.
I don't think they're good dancers either.
DBSK is a group that I love, but their fanbase is bigger than their talent. They are very talented, but I don't think they're improved enough to warrant pretty much taking over all of asia's pop scene. At least not yet.

I actually don't find DBSK overrated. They have a lot of fans, that's true. But DBSK isn't known for their talent (which they deserve to be known for.) They're known for their looks and just the fact that they're a boyband. They get a lot more recognition for their looks and other superficial aspects than they do for their talent. And seriously, they do have talent.

Yoo Seung Jun, he's not even in Korea anymore so I'm not surprised if he is not popular anymore. I agree with all the points that you made.

Overrated:
Bi-His singing is not all that good, however I do like his dance moves. As for his acting, I only watched Full House and that's not enough for me to judge.

DBSK- As much as I like them, their latest Korean album didn't do it for me, yet they won like hundreds of awards ( exaggerrating) and their most recent Japanese single just didn't do enough to showcase their vocals. I know they got talent, but there are other singers out there who can write some good music and can sing just as beautiful.

Hyori-She's beautiful, gorgeous, sexy,etc...However, this girl has been singing for so many years now and her vocal skills is still not on par with other singers like Sungmin or Kim JiEun.

BoA-Okay, I really think she's an amazing dancer and even a good live singer, but I was really expecting that she could finally compose some of her music now, not just writing lyrics. I'm sure if she's good at music composition, just like Kangta SM would let her use it on her album.

Underrated:
J.Lim-this girl can sing, but JYP isn't promoting her properly. Her R&B voice is strong and soothing. She knows how to control her voice and can sing live quite well. She can play musical instruments. It really sucks that her company seems to focus their energy elsewhere, and not as much on her.

SG Wannabe-these guys can sing, but I guess physical appearance is everything in this superficial world. They have one of the most amazing vocals in Korea, but that's just not enough for some people.

TAKE-At one point I thought DBSK's a'cappella couldn't be compared until I heard these guys sing. Their voices just blend in so beautifully. They sing live most of the time, if not all the time. They write their own music, and when they include some English lines they always make sense. All the members can sing very well, which impressed me the most since most boybands have either a member or two who sing only mediocrely. It's just a shame that not many people know them even though they debuted about 4 years ago.

It's a matter of opinion and context. Overrated means that you think that they are more popular than they deserve. Of course fans would not argue that case... but even some fans of Bi have admitted that he is kind of overrated.

If you think that an artist is more popular than they deserve, then perhaps you will think that they are too popular.

Depends on how you look at it; if you look at the Korean entertainment scene and you value artists for talent, vocal skills, stage ability, etc... then yes, you may find certain artists that are really popular but you think lack real skill and ability to be overrated.

CSJH. I love these girls .n. they deserve promotion. Now I'm thrilled they finally released there FIRST FULL ablum it's about time, but they are SO underrated. They all can sing .n. they can dance. Stephanie is my favorite because she has that low key voice .n. she's a great dancer. I believe the best in Korea...of course other's will disagree but that is MY opinion.

T (Tasha)- She is underrated as well. She is such an amazing lyrical rapper. She has crazy skills of course I believe she is underrated though.

Very much so underrated, he is one of the better voices in Korea strong, clarity, hearing the words of the song. Sadly, he choose to change his face but just a great singer.

Underrated: I can't stress this enough, but Take is very underrated. I truly believe they can sing, and all of their voices are angelic. And wht is sad is that they aren't appreciated by a lot of koreans even though they debuted for some time already. They've been through so much, and now they've made a decision to go to China and see if they can make it there. But I jsut believe that when a lot of ppl hear about DBSK, Big Bang, suju, maybe they sould give TAKEa chance, and listen to their music, because i believe they deserve so much more!

Boa - She has a good voice and she's a good live performer but nothing special in my opinion. Her songs are okay...but she is obviously just a product of marketing and corporations.

I think Hyori is over rated. Some of her songs are quite catchy but I think she relies on dancing and being sexy too much! XP But I think she's better than BoA, who is also over rated. I dont know how old this album is but I got the Love and Honesty album and she doesnt sound that good and I thought she would be because she's been a singer for a lot of years and she's very popular but I don think she's that good! I havent seen her dancing though.

I personally do not think neither DBSK nore Super Junior are overrated. Yeah, Jaejoong can't dance as well as Bi and Kibum can't sing as well as Hyesung... but they have that charisma, that ability to make themselves popularity. Now with just that, it's already quite something. There is a reason why they are termed as "idols" - Idols are those who look nice, have a nice personality (or pretends to be lol), and give, if not, at least close to a "nice" stage performance. DBSK are not as talented in acting, but they are, probably to most, decent enough to watch for at least a couple of minutes. Super Junior probably lack in balanced vocals but I'm sure it won't hurt your ear if you listen to them a little longer.

IMO they're not the best, but they are, at least, better dancers than DBSK or SS501. In terms of versatility and skill, Super Junior's dancing ranges in more than just simple hip hop and jazz. Probably it's a benefit because they have two members in the group that are trained in martial arts - Hankyung and Sungmin. Hankyung is also a professional in traditional Chinese dance. I agree though - there are too many people in the group to see each member's talents clearly.


They were a rotating (project) group. That's the reason why SM made such a large group the first place. But after the addition of a 13th member, Kyuhyun, SM publicly announced that Super Junior will stay as an active permanent group. Recently with all the hype that's going on between ELF and SM, is not because SM wanted to switch a member out, but because SM wants to add a new member in.

Underrated - The Grace, FTTS

Yeah! She's so talent and has such a beautiful voice!

Overrated:

Wonder Girls- Their songs are catchy, but their vocals are kind of weak, especially So Hee.

Hyori- She has charisma and stage presence, but she can't sing live.

Underrated:

SS501- It's sad that these guys who are full of talent aren't as recognized and are constantly being called copy of DBSK.

KARA- This group is one of the few new girl groups that can actually sing and have great live performances. Sunghee's voice is amazing.

CSJH- I feel so bad for them. They've waited years before they could release their first album, but with So Nyuh Shi Dae, they debut and less than 6 months later they release their first album. Talk about unfair treatment. In my opinion, CSJH is more well rounded than SNSD. SNSD has its own lead vocals and dancers, but everyone in CSJH can sing AND dance (though Stephanie's vocals are a bit weak, but she's a great dancer).

First name that came to my mind is Bae Yoon Jun i dont really find him that handsome yeah his acting is good but its not the best so i just dont know why he is very very popular.

i never understood why so many people found him hot. his face is very normal, his body on the other hand is very hot.
maybe it's because he has talent??? (that's still questionable...im not gonna discuss)

hm....I think that Wonder Girls and SNSD are overrated...Wonder girls are only popular because of the Tell Me craze and not for their singing *which isn't that good* And SNSD...well...I dotn' really get the hype about them because I think their singing and dancing is mediocre...
CSJH are really underrated!!! Their singing is really awesome!! And Stephanie is really good at dancing!! I dont' get why SM doenst' promote them >< they're talented!!

And as for guys...well, I don't think DBSK is overrated because they're singing is really really awesome, and Super Junior dances good ^^ so..I dont' think any male singer is overrated..but Battle and SS501 are really underrated!!! Their vocals and dancing are not bad..so why don't they get promoted?? Sighzz

You know what? Most main guy characters...it's always the supporting that is so much better looking. Like in My Girl, I know a lot of people think the main guy is good looking but I just don't see it.

I used to be a big Kpop fan, and now Im completely over it. Frankly, that's because I think most of them are so overrated and some do not get the fame. Then again, it's life, it's just tough luck. What can you do.

Overrated:
TVXQ, was never a big fan of them because I used to really like Shinhwa, and then when they came out towards the end of Shinhwa, I was just like wth, COPY! Haha, I really do think that they're talented when it comes to dancing and singing (it bugs me when people say, they're the best at acting). They deserve their fame, but umm, basically most of the people I know who like them, are only for their looks. And when it comes to the music, they're not even listening to it, more like watching the MV. Sure they're talented, but the fans just make them sound like they're "godlike" singers. So Im interperting overrated as the reasons for why they're famous. Kapish?

Bi-Rain, sure he's a great dancer, but singing, it's pretty average dont you think. And come on, Full House. (I hated that show, absolutely despised it. Couldnt continue after episode 2)

Underrated:
FLY TO THE SKY, freaking hell, they have got to be one of the best duets I have heard that is still going, and I STILL LOVE THEM, despite the fact I dont even listen to Korean music, but these guys are the BIGGEST EXCEPTION. Their collaboration with their contrasting vocals is very soothing. But they're pretty popular in the Phillipines. (or maybe they got overtaken by TVXQ)

That's all I can name, because I dont follow the new artists.

I think SG Wannabe is very underrated. I looove their music and they have superb vocals. Even though their looks are not that flattering, their music is awesome.
FTTS is also very good.

J is pretty good and I love her songs

SG Wannabe was the best-selling artist in 2007, defeating even Super Junior.
SG Wannabe is similar to Big Mama - fans don't go crazy over them, but they are definitely very respected artists in the music industry. They sell a lot. SG Wannabe's first (or second? O-O) album sold close to a million copies... that's even more than DBSK's.


That's the reason why they are so popular. They are literally everywhere.
With music alone, Super Junior is a weak group. Not because they lack in talent, but because they are TOO large of a band for each member to show what they got. They are much more suitable to be an idol group. There's a reason why they're called SUPER Junior - not only do they sing, they act, DJ, MC, host, model.... they are not just singers, every single one of them.

I admit I am a bit biased towards SuJu, but that was the true impression they gave me ever since I knew about them two years ago.

Overrated:
Rain: I don't get what's the hype over him or maybe I just never liked him. Acting wise he's decent and dancing as well singing not too much.

BoA: As much as I like BoA I don't find her anymore special than other singers, yeah she's great live but now it's just the same BoA to me in terms of performance and all.

HyoRi: Umm some of her songs are catchy but come to think of it she's more known for her sex appeal which gets a bit tiring.

Quite a few idol groups as well but I shan't start naming.

Underrated:
SS501: Look wise they are decent but compared to SuJu and DBSK maybe they aren't that hot. But talent wise they really can sing and dance like ever. Definiately underrated !

Over-rated:
Rain: he was popular for quite some years i guess. but he never grow on me.
and i dont see why he is popular. bcos of his hot body
singing and dancing. yes, he is above average. most singers in korea can sing, so he doesnt really stand out.

Under-rated
SS501:
i've heard their songs. and wow im just so amaze and captivated.
def. with their talents. they are underrated if they were compared to tvxq,suju or big bang.

The Grace: these 4 girls have amazing voice!
kinda obvious since they are under SM well-trained.
again, underrated compared to snsd.
