myhelen: they cut THAT out too?! A better question would be what they DON'T cut out! Don't loose all hope yet, maybe the TVB version will have it! And i totally agree with what you're saying. I think we should totally, somehow, tell TVB how much us audiences love Charray. The viewers have a big influence; afterall, we are the people who will be watching the shows and listening to the songs. I remember the show "To Catch the Uncatchable" they had a cliffhagner ending and the audience were so unsatisfied not knowing whether Dayo Wong lived her died, TVB received TONS of complain letters/calls/e-mails and in the end, they filmed an alternate, happy ending. See, if we all work together, we can have our voices heard too! (teehee! i sound like a politician! ) But honestly, i think we should do SOMETHING to make sure our Charray will be in future series together (like how many of us wanted to see them in a modern comedy series or sing a duet together. wow i can't even remember the last time i was here. I know it back at page 14??. Well sorry i haven't been on. So much stuff has happened. I went to ny on monday. I wanted to get on but my sister had the internet turned off because it's just a waste of money if your not going to be using it for a month. tuesday morning we left to go to china so i couldn't use the computer for 13 hours. i was i was planning to get on wensday bbut the flight to my Uncle's from beijing was cancelled and we didn't even know about it. So we were in line forever trying to get tickets fort the next day but they were sold out. so we had to get tickets for the day after that. I was soo madd. i mean i only slept for 11 mins that night. But we finally got to where we're suposse to be so i'll be happy for that. well i'm going to read all the posts from when i wasn't here.

Even though DOL has not be released within the U.S., I had the opportunity to see the last 6 episodes on CCTV8 via TVU player (thank you to whoever gave me the idea. It was awesome.) It was pretty disappointed bc Charm and Ray were not in a lot of scenes (it was pretty disappointing bc China also cut two chapters out when it was supposed to be a total of 60 chapters). Although I am exhausted from waking up at 4:30am and watching the episodes until 7am, I only wanted to watch Charm and Ray but I would prefer watching in Canto w/ their real voice to match w/ their facial expressions. Charm and Ray look really married in the series, and they are a pretty adorable and compatible couple I've ever seen beside Carina Lau And Andy Lau (so long time ago). Charm reminds me of Carina Lau. I don't know if anyone ever notice but when i first saw her movie, I thought she was Carina's sister.

I hope many movies to come w/ Charm and Raymond. The rating in HK has been outstanding and unbelievable so I see a bright and a very successful future for these two. Hopefully they will win and walk away w/ best actress/actor and favorite couple of the year award.

I love the CHARRAY list of their similarities. Wow, it's amazing how they are so compatible.

We will wish these two lovely couple well w/ their career endeavors and a possible future together as a real couple. I hope they know how much their fans love them both.



I think a lot of us here agree that Linda doesn't have much chemistry w/ Raymond bc of her acting ability or lack of. Charm and Raymond have a history of acting together that's why they bring out the best of in each other and of course, their talents which makes it so real to their fans. I hope TVB realize that this lovely couple will definitely bring them revenues since both are very talented w/ singing and acting and their fans LOVE them together. Hopefully TVB will promote both of them rather than Linda, who is talentless (sorry to any Linda fan if any in this thread.) We just love CHARRAY.

Yes, DOL ended yesterday in Mainland. I saw the last three episodes actually this morning from 4:30-7am via U.S. time zone, of zone. Now I just have to watch the Canto version.

I finished watching the whole DOL series on CCTV. The ending 6 episodes or so was really disappointing. Our Charray has become a "huge walking set", there are not that many of their scenes and they don't seem to be that important to the series. I meant, what they did in the last few episodes could have been done by anyone else. The ending episode has left me speechless. It was that bad. It is totally CCTV style with lots of "big theory", grand philisophy and the last few scenes with the 5 guys going to the Great Wall made me laugh so hard. If it weren't for Charray, I would not have watched this series.

I just feel that they have wasted Charray's talent. I know that this is a grand production with tons of artistes, Charray cannot dominate the series, but why does TVB/CCTV have to put so much empahsis on the veterans? The Charray characters Sau Fung and Bong could have been developed better. The 2 characters are really outstanding and have lots of room for development, but no, the have to edit it, cut the scenes and made it so choppy, thus diminished the attractiveness of the characters. Anyway, I think Charray has done a great job, and I hope the TVB version will be better.

I think at least we can go to the Sau Fung blog and Chuan Bong's blog on the TVB site and post comments there praising Charray. Not sure if any producers or top levels in TVB will read it, but at least we can create some noise and awareness.

What DOL finished Airing yesturday??? I can't believe it. I've been wanting to watch here since who knows when. Great. Now i can't wait to go back to the U.S. so i can rent the series in canto or like download it. I would now but i'm not on my computer and i don't want to mess up someone else's computer. Well i just can't believe it. Dumb CCTV cuting out so many sense. I wish I could fly to Hong Kong to watch it or something. Well i'm going to go watch some Charrat clips. Since i have nothing else to look forward to today.

This doesn't sound so good - the ending's disappointing? I was hoping for a perfect ending for the perfect serie. Darn! I haven't seen the last eps. because I'm saving them for the Canto version

i watched the last few eps of DOL too.. hmm i dont think it was that bad but it was a pity that they're werent as many Charray scenes near the end.. but when i watched the series i realised that they broke up the series amongst the 3 female leads.. that is Charmaine Jessica Sheren (i would include Myolie but her plot wasnt so big...) in the beginning i think it focused more on Sheren's line then towards the middle it was Charmaine's chance to shine then Jessica's at the end..

i must say.. CCTV cut out quite alot of Charray scenes i think.. sometimes it doesnt even feel as it it connected right.. but tis all good the TVB version is on so hopefully it will add more Charray into it.. really want to watch that kissing scene on the tram... and i also agree that Charmaine and Raymond did such a great job in this series.. hoping that they will get some sort of award this year.. both their acting has reached another level...

hmm, i agree with ida101 with the three actresses holding the leading female roles in DOL. they are all important to the story plot. I really love sheren and charmaine in DOL, they are such fatastic actresses. Jess is not bad too. But i would really prefer her character to be a bit stronger. Half the time i was watching and i was like "noononono!! AHH!!" when i watch her scenes with joe ma. Myolie doesn't really hold a big role in this series. Maybe because she is muh newer compared to the other three. But i believe she learn alot from acting with these versatile actors and actress. Charray's acting skills really improved throughout the whole DOL show. SO i was a bit disappointed with cctv cutting out soo many scenes and that they have such minor rolesin the last few episodes when they are clearly the few main characters.

Yes, i cant wait for the tvb version. Best perk is that we get to listen to them speaking in their originial voice. I don't mind the chinese version but original is always the best. Secondly, TVB has higher chance of not cutting the charray scenes out seeing that there is a growing charray fan base in hong kong. LOL

Hopefully tvb will plan out more shows and challenging roles for charmaine and raymond in the months and years to come! For now, i would be pleased to just sit down and rewatch all the charray scenes again.

One of my friends was watching HOG the other day and she told me that she thought the kiss between Ray and Linda, and with Yoyo too, was unnatural and forced. She is the one who like Linda and she didn't think Ray and Linda have chemistry at all. She was cheering for Moses and Linda lols Then I show her the clips with Charray kissing and she was like there is a 180 degree differences. She asked me if Charray are dating in real life and I was like, I wish heehee
Ray was only guest starring in HOG so I get that his screne time is less than the others. But in DOL, Charray are part of the leading cast. They should have more screen time than what was shown in the CCTV version.

Another thing I don't get is that how come Ray only guest starred and he and Linda isn't even the main focus couple (Moses and Linda are), but there are a lot of rumors of them two? They only collaborated once and have no chemistry together (in my opinion). What about our Charray who collaborated three times and have so much sparks together you'd think it's Independent Day? They have no rumors together, none, zilch!! I want the press to question Ray about his relationship with Charm and to question Charm about her relationship with Ray! I want to see them smile happily at the mention of the other and then coyfully deny and said they are just really close friends when just in fact they are secret lovers! I want that!

Dawnlight, I have to agree 100% to your friend's observation! I find Ray's emotional scene with Charm in DOL is so real and natural. I was so surprised to see really huge improvement in his emotional scenes. I really think that he is in love with Charm during the filming. I think Ray and many other actors agree that they have to be in love with their partner in the series in order to make a good performance. They will then pull out their feelings after the filming is over. So why are the romantic scenes with Linda less natural and less convincing and less touching? In my opinion - That's becasue Charm is an excellent actress, Ray and Charm are more compatible, they have more feelings for each other and Charray is made in heaven!

BTW, Ray will be the guest performer at the Ms. HK Pageant finals on Sat. Actually Charm will be a guest at the show as well with other fellow Ms. Hk. Let's hope they will meet in the dressing room and start chating away and maybe even a picture or 2 with them together!!!!!1







Above are the scene where Sheren is discussing the court case with Charray and suddenly the light went out and Ray is trying to fix it for them. This scene was cut out, so when in later scenes Charm commented that Ray didn't go get an electrician to fix the light doesn't make sense. See how bad the editing is??????!!!!!!

Let's hope TVB version will keep this scene!

hehe I 100% agree with you! I find Charray the most natural onscreen. They are both talented individuals and when together their chemistry explodes and they create such great cinematic works. Charray must have have close relationship before filming to adapt into characters so well acting as lovers. I do think it would be so hard to pull out of their character since they probably have feeling for each other as well in real life (base on their interviews together and stuff).
I think the unnaturalness is due to that it's the first time he worked with Linda. But then I don't really find them having much spark even if they work together multiple times (I hope not). Yet Charray first collaboration was in LWOLAP right? and they are so natural there too and Yummy Yummy, they were so cute together that many thought Charray would be the better couple than Kevin and Charm. I may be bias but I definitely think that Charray is the IT couple who match each other perfectly onscreen and offscreen

I heard about the Ms. HK pageant too. Ray will be dancing with Kate. I rather he dance with Charm. But oh well, at least they'll be in the same event. I have no idea. The pics are originally from KuangaiTVB and reposted at almost everywhere. I am not sure if TVB version will keep it because it is supposed to come out late in the series sth like after epi 50. TVB version now is at epi 5 only, so I really don;t know if this scene will be in the trash bin or on air loh.

I'm sorry to ask more but what is KuangaiTVB? is it TVB forum? Whoever posted them must have access to TVB editing room right?
the TVB version have two more episodes than the CCTV version so I bet or more so I hope that Charray will have more scenes include in the TVB version. You know what I'd really like, is to see the scene where Ray kiss Charm multiple times and ask her to marry him. If TVB editors are wise then they will include that scenes since it will be new and most of the viewers/fans have seen the taxi version.

Ratings come out next week. I really hope it will be the highest!

I think we should start an online petition asking TVB to promote Charray as a couple more. We can get everyone in this forum to sign it and then we can send it to TVB. I feel so disappointed after reading how people were disappointed with the ending. I was expecting a super, amazing, spectacular, happy ending with Charm and Ray having a family with lots of little Rays and Charms. Guess that's not happening... Maybe TVB's version will be better? I agree with the rest of you how they seem to exploit Charray in the ending 10 episodes, focussing more on the veteran actors/actresses and leaving our lovely Charray in the background. Stupid TVB...well, at least we can re-watch those sweet, romantic scenes of them in the beginning and middle part.

HEY! If you don't like the ending (i dunno yet 'cause i haven't watched it yet...but from what others have said about the lack of Charrayness) you can e-mail TVB about it or something, just like To Catch The Uncatchable! If we stir up enough commotion about it, TVB's execs will start paying attention and maybe film an alternate ending! It's worth a try!

You know what i noticed as i rewatched some Charray scenes? The black-and-white striped scarf that Charm wore in the episodes when they went to Canada because her mom got arrested....doesn't it match Ray's black and white striped sweater (which he also wore when they went to Vancouver)? And from what i recall, they had to mostly bring their own clothes for filming....so why would Charm have a scarf matching to Ray's sweater...?

I would like to send emails to TVB but I don't know Chinese But I would definitely sign that petition to encourgage TVB to include more Charray scenes in DOL and also to pair them up together more!

I am not sure how effective it is for us to send our comments to TVB. But if you feel like doing something or just to voice your opinion, you can try the above email. It is perfectly fine to write in English. If there are enough voices in favour of Bong and Fun, Ray and Charm maybe TVB will change their mind and cut less of Charray's scenes leh. I heard from other boards that many Charray scenes were cut out. Will try to describe the deleted scenes to you when I have time.

Just got an update that Charmaine will not attend the Ms HK Pageant finals afterall due to her holidays. Hello, I'm an oversea fan and I've always loved watching TVB dramas, which in my opinion, is the best way for us oversea-born-Chinese to learn Chinese. =) When i first heard about this grand production, The Drive of Life, i was absolutely ecstatic. It had my absolute favourite actresses and actors, namely Charmaine Sheh, Raymond Lam, Damien Lau, Michael Miu, Sheren Tang, Jessica Hsuan...the cast was indeed phenomenal and unbelievably strong. Just from the amazing cast i was already drawn to watch this series, which i understood was to celebrate the glorious 10-year anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong back to China.

And i was not disappointed. This truly was a great production; a very worthwhile storyline as well as many interesting subplots, complete with A+ acting from all and i love how they went to so many different places, even to Canada (which is were i live!) to film. But what i noticed the most was Charmaine and Raymond's chemistry. They are just ABSOLUTELY stunning on screen. Both have delivered truly AMAZING, SUPERB performances. I cried when they cried, i laughed when they laughed; they were able to truly demonstrate their emotions through their supreme acting skills and i was truly impressed. The emotional scenes were very touching and heart wrenching and in my opinion, Charmaine and Raymond are the best criers in TVB. There tears are so convincing and their eyes! Their eyes can "talk" like no other, simply moving the audience with their stares. I just thought that Charmaine and Raymond's excellent performances in The Drive of Life deserved more recognition as i thought their roles in The Drive of Life were their best performances yet. And i hope TVB will continue to promote this fantastic couple as they have gained a very VERY large fan base, especially overseas. (You can go see their forum on asianfanatics; it's amongst one of the most active, if not the most, forums. In fact, they've been nicknamed "Charray" !)

However, having read the posts on forums and spoken to many fellow Charray fans, we all share one similar complain about The Drive of Life, which was otherwise a fantastic production: there were too little Charray scenes. We felt that too many Charmaine and Raymond scenes were cut out; such as the kissing scene on the tram (it was cut out of the CCTV version, I'm not sure about the TVB one...hopefully not), the scene were Raymond plants multiple kisses on Charmaine when he proposes, and especially to the latter part of the show, after they got back together, their screen time has significantly diminished. I, along with many MANY other Charray fans, would like to see more of this honestly amazing couple and hope that the TVB version of The Drive of Life will include more Charray scenes. Charmaine and Raymond are both extremely professional actors who have improved so SO much since when they first entered TVB. Plus, the many Charray fans out there, all agree that they share an unbreakable bond with sparkling chemistry that bring out the best of each other, making them just so so SO compatible. We hope we can see more and more of this couple together in the future! (Many Charray fans have expressed interest in seeing Charmaine and Raymond in a modern comedy series as a couple/wife-and-husband team)

In conclusions, i would like to applaud The Drive of Life as it can be safely proclaimed as one of the best productions ever produced by TVB; a stellar, star collaboration indeed. Keep up the great work!

kingdom_riku, the scene you mentioned is in Episode 30 (CCTV version). That is my top 3 favourite Charray scene. Top 1 is the wedding scene, Top 2 is this scene (they are just so sweet together. A real couple cannot get any sweeter than this scene) and the Top 3 is the scene where Ray races after Charm's taxi and tell her he has misunderstood her and said sorry to her)

We are talking about that scene after Ray won the A-fontane contest and Charray are walking along a ridge, both wearing brown outfits. Ray was teasing what Charm award him because he won and help her company out in the contest. Charray was laughing and kissing so cute! I love that scene!

So Charm is in Hawaii right now and Ray is filming The Four Young Constables They are half way around the world apart. I'm sure they contact each other through phones and emails though. But unfortunately for us, we won't get to see them together soon.
Does this mean Charm won't be going to any DOL promotion events? So no Charray together for a long while? I am so sad

I want to know DOL rating too. But I don't think it will be available until Monday. I read that the first ep got around 34 or something like that. I hope it's really increase when Charray appear though.

Anyone who watched both versions so far. Is there a significant difference? Like did CCTV cut a whole lot?

The perfect couple did have a perfect ending but the last three series was pretty disappointing bc Charray doesn't seem to share much scenes together at the end. Hopefully TVB's version would be better bc CCTV cut out two chapters since originally it was supposed to be 60 chapters.

saw the first 5 episodes of DOL.. just love the few charray scenes! haha they are so funny and cute already. like how they are fighting and competing. Besides charray scenes, i think the series is okay so far, the first episodes kinda boring, always talking about the brothers.

so apparently there was some scenes cut in the mando version eh?? oh thats so annoying.. why are they doing that...and even in the TVB version?? i hope tvb doesnt cut anything that regards to charray in the upcoming episodes! i really dont wanna miss a single scene of them, after all after DOL dunno when there will be another pairing of them. =\

by the way, Bittersweet just read your letter to TVB. Awesome! I hope they really do read that letter and take it in consideration... or at least tell us if charray scenes were cut in the TVB version.

omg they can't cut the many kisses on the tram scene! it was like one of the best scenes, even Charray agreed! Mainly Charm, since in most of the interviews i seen... her memorable scene was this scene, she always mentioned it! crossing my fingers and hoping theres not too many scenes cut..

im assuming everyone is watching the TVB version of DOL.. and i swear Charray's voices are so much better than the dubbed mando ones.. i love them in the series they r just sooo cute and great together.. love it!! with the tram kissing scene i dont think they will cut the actual kissing bit in the TVB version cos its quite significant to the begining of them actually starting their relationship.. cos the CCTV one when they cut that out it felt really weird and didnt even know that they were going out.. anywho.. lets hope Charray scenes wont get cut out..

wow everyone talking about their fav Charray moments.. and i guess im similar to most.. eps 30.. one of my fav bits.. they were so sweet.. and 43 when they got back together again.. and Ray kept saying sorry.. ohh everytime i watch it i get butterflies in my stomach.. makes me feel weird.. There are so many sweet Charray scenes in DOL that I have many favorite. Actually I love every minute Charray is onscreen together, whether it be sad or happy.

If most of you have seen the last ep of the CCTV version, let me ask you. Did you guys notice the scene when the whole family were at the big window watching the fireworks at the end? They show all the couples together happily and I notice that our Charray is the closest together! Ray have his arm around Charm's shoulder and Charm has her arm around Ray's waist. So close heehee. While the others are just not that close. Ron has his arm around Toby's shoulder but her arms are just hanging there and Myolie only wrap her arm around Feng Shao Feng's arm and he just stand there. So in conclusion, Charray look the most like a loving couple! I think it's because they are so close together, their actions before camera is close too!!! Anyone think like me?

Dawnlight, from what you have observed from that little scene, you are definitely well qualified as a Charray diehard fans! Couldn't blame you, I am just like you, totally and hopelessly addicted!

Aznangel, welcome back! So happy to see you posting again! Well, regarding the editing issue, I was told that TVB has cut edited 2 versions, one for TVB airing, one for CCTV airing. Both are 60 episodes. TVB has deliberately made minor difference between the 2 due to different audience taste and of course, they want to somehow distinguish between the 2 versions. And based on the TVB edited CCTV version, CCTV has cut some scenes on top of it and thus making it 58 episodes. Apparently, most of the cut out scenes in the CCTV edited 58 episode version consist of our CHARRAY scenes, others have scenes cut out too, but not as much as our dearest Charray!!!!!!!! I sure hope TVB will add those back!

Cut out scenes include:


[spoiler]1.The shortened tram kissing scene
2. Charmaine asking Daimen to kneel before her
3. Charm and Ray and Sheren discussing the court case at home when the lights went out
4. There's a scene towards the end where Charm admitted that she was the one who hit Daimen, but only because Joe has flatten her tires beforehand. Then they went to Jessica's house to look for Joe Ma. There is a scene where Jessica is suppose to still protect Joe and said that Charm is the one who hit Daimen, Joe has nothing to do with it. Then Daimen asked her to look into his eyes and repeat that. Jessica then insisted that she hasn't lied. The CCTV version has this part cut out. So the scene becomes so choppy. Daimen asked Jessica to come to him, then the next scene is they stare at each other, then Daimen said, let's leave. No wonder I didn't understand what is going on when I watched the CCTV version.
5. The scene in the hospital where Ray woke up after being hit by Joe was edited too. Supposedly, Charmaine arrived and Ray doesn't want to talk to her, then they went to Jessica's ward and Jessica testified that she saw Ray stabbling Joe with the letter opener. Then the 3 had an argument. This part was taken out in CCTV version.
6. Ray was very upset when Ellesmere was fired by Joe. Daimen talked to him, then Ray was calm again. So when Charm got home, she was chatting with Daimen, asking him what did he say to Ray. Daimen was saying he learned a lot from Charm's mom and Gigi and his brother such as how to forgive and forget. THere should be a scene where Daimen finally confessed to Charm that he had an affair with Maggie, and because of that Maggie married someone she doesn't love in VAncouver. This scene was cut out.
7. There is a Charray dancing scene at the early stage
8. At the last episode, the whole family were in the same hotel room watching the fireworks there should be a scene where all of them sit together chatting.
9. There should be a scene after Charmaine bumped into Joe's parent on the street where Gigi, mislead by Joe to believe that Charm has threatened Joe's parent. So Gigi went to scold Charmaine and Charm pleaded her innonence.
10. There should be an argument scene between Gigi and Charm where Charm said something like if she broke Ray's leg and then take care of him for the rest of his life, doesn't that mean it is ok? I suppose she is relating to what Gigi and Daimen are trying to make up for what they did to Maggie.
11. When Charm and Ray came back from Middle East, there is a scene where they visited Liu (Daimen's 2nd brother) and they learned that Myolie and Min are going to get married. Min's grandma asked Charm if HK people like to eat dumplings, worrying that Myolie may not get used to living in Beijing. After dinner, they went out and saw Myolie and her dad. The dinner scene is cut, they only keep the scene where Charray met Myolie and her dad.

Some people have already watched the TVB 60 episodes version on some Internet station. I don't have the address loh. That;s ok lah. I can wait and digest the TVB version slowly . We can get about 2 disk per week, that is about 6 episodes per week, so I am ok with the speed lah.

LOL, thanks guys...you're making me blush! JK! I'm so happy that so many of you are so eager to let TVB know how much we love our Charray! "If we all raise our voices, we WILL be heard!" I really believe that if enough of us e-mail them, they'll HAVE to take notice. I still haven't watched the clips from the last couple of episodes yet...from what i've read, i think i will be VERY disappointed if there isn't much Charray scenes (they WERE the main reason why i watched DOL...besides the other great cast. =] )

I went to watch Harry Potter today with a friend (that's why i didn't update my fanfic )...now THAT was a disappointment. They cut out so many scenes (the whole entire quidditch scenes were cut out) and mixed a lot of stuff up. Kinda dragged in the beginning and rushed at the end. I think i'll put off watching the ending to DOL...don't think my frail heart can take so much disappointment in one day.

Mentioning Charray scenes and HK handover, I just remember a funny scene is episode 11 where Pong family hosted a party and invited Fung over.

When Ray start introducing Charmaine to his family, Charmaine saw her own mother (Maggie) and said "Mother"?


Then Ray quickly corrected her and said, "No, that is my mother" (pointing at Gigi).

It's funny because in a way Ray teased Charmaine as eager to become his wife. You see, it's common for couples to address each other parents as dad & mum.

Sehseh, I just love your avatar. That's such a touching scene, and Charm is so beautiful in it.
Talking about Ray teasing Charm, there is also a scene in episode 6 or 7 that Ray mentioned that one day he and Charm may "visit their ancestor's tomb" together. No wonder Ray always said that he always looks for the future lah. He can actually see the future loh.

I am so into DOL now that I have no mood to do anything....afterall this is the first time that Charray has a complete love story as man and wife. And who knows when we will see another Charray series leh.....I am already beginning to miss DOL, although it is only at epi 6. Hopelessly addicted......

I guess that's humans to ya: we are the happiest awaiting for something, the anticipation is the drive behind life. (haha! no pun intended. ) Hopefully all our e-mails will make some impact and Charray will be in many many series together in the future! *crosses fingers* I'm was and still am hopelessly addicted; i rewatch the cute Charray scenes over and over and over and over again and giggle everytime.
