woLUVARRONYAN!!!
looks seems to be everything
say i see a cute guy and they could sing i like them
but seriously im Nicholas Teo's super ge mi (super music fan)
im not interested in his looks but his singing
i listen to his songs all the time!
he's hot in his new album "Prince"
but still even though he isn't photogenic in pictures
but i still love him for his talent in singing
I AM NOT INTERESTED in his looks

really depends who the cute guy or handsome guy is
if they could sing then its fine
if they are ok
i still give them a chance
not everyone could sing unless they try
i try to sing a soft song and i suck!
so i just have to treat trying
ECENTERPRISE
Basing on the voice alone, and not so good looking guy, I like Harlem Yu and Alan Ke....
I extremely love their voices and songs but not so on looks....
But for guy who could actually sing and at the same time...got the looks....It would be Wang Lee Hom for me.
I_Luv_Fahrenheit
Yup, I also think that Wang Lee Hom sings very well...There's lotz of guyz who can sing very well, but in terms of look, is not that good hohoohoh...

Yet, I think looks can be modified, so itz not a big problem...
nongshim
there are many people out there who can sing and have good looks. for example in my opinion i think wang lee hom is very good looking and i think he can really sing. example of good looking but can't really sing... (no offense...i do like them and some of their songs but i don't want to offend any fans out there so don't take it personal.) it's not that i hate or don't like them...it's just in my opinion i don't think Fahreinheit can really sing. just seems like a bunch of guys who are good looking with no experience who came together to form a group. but with more experience i believe they can achieve both the look and singing. example of my opinion of someone who doesn't have the best look but is a very good singer is tank. he voice makes him very attractive. i actually wouldn't mind dating him. he has very good songs in my opinion.

(im not trying to offend any fans out there or go against anyone or bash...this is just my opinion oh and it's not just guys..it's girls too...but i didn't use any example of girls. sorry.)
feelohp
Singing of course. If i wanted to go for looks then i just look at models right?
punkrockgal
singing comes first, but if they have the looks also then that's a plus.i really do like Nicholas Teo for his singing and he has the looks to go along with his singing. Does this only apply to taiwanese singers? because if not alot of Korean singers have both aspects such as DBSK.
!stevie_G!
IMO DBSK are bunch of guys who can really sing very well. Well Im not a fan although I dont think anyone can deny how good they are.

Ive said this before having a good voice doesnt mean good singer.XD

Does anyone here will actually say 'I prefer looks over singing'?~lolz!

Singing wise, Im a fan of Akanishi Jin's versatility(I started to search something about him after I heard his jaw dropping falsetto) plus he's also gifted w/ good looks so he's a complete package IMO~
self_hypnosis
Of course most people would say singing comes before looks but everyone's shallow in a way. If the world wasn't so shallow, Twins and FRH would have been bagged and kicked out of the music industry a while ago.
Yunsias ♥
Actually I'll go for the singing than for the looks. But then again, beauty are a very relative kinda thing. Who you think is good-looking may not be good-looking for another person. But I think when someone has proven his/her ability to sing, there is a certain charm around them. Like Eason Chan and David Tao. Though they are not really good looking, but they have very strong stage presence that makes you want to sit there and listen to them.
self_hypnosis
^ Yes, i can listen to Eason and David's voice all day <3
They are singers, not models. Solely looking good gets you nowhere unless you have a smart music company like Twins do.
EC327
I thin looks can give you a big jump start in your career. If an artist is really good looking people will catch more attention to the cd cover when shopping. However i think to make it big in the industry than you gotta be good at singing. Looks can only take you so far.

People like Jay Chou i find dont really gotta look but talent brought him a long way.
MadHatter
i listen to the song before the looks if anything because the only way i listen to any songs is through the radio and if i heard a song i really like, i will go look for who sings it. if you find someone pretty, they might not be able to sing for the life of them. example is LYF. she looks like a china doll. she can't act, and she can't sing. what is the purpose of her even in entertainment? her looks.

so many great people out there not recognized because they aren't galmerous. if this is the way entertainment supposed to look like, then this is just sad...
reflections
when it comes to music i definitely respect talent over looks

i.e. i think fahrenheit are really cute but i can't stand their singing

Yeah i agree. It's a short-term advantage to have a pretty face. But in the future, people won't remember those pretty people as a great singer with singing talents, which is stupid. There is no point of becoming a singer if people don't see any good in them as a singer. Just be models instead. For example, Twins. In 30 years time or whenever they retire, people won't remember them as being good and talented singers. It would be "those two girls with cute faces who couldn't sing live on stage very well".

It's amazing how Jay Chou used to be quite "ugly" when he was younger, but now fans drool over him. The magic of makeovers! He looks especially hot when he sings and plays the piano in a suit to a depressing song thumbsup.gif
Rin.
Well it depends

if you're just looking for a idol; great looks + mediocre singing would probably do for alot of idols.

but really, if it's a true artist; then singing is key, except trust that you wont get anywhere if your looks arent up to scratch (not just average, like below below average) ~ people are shallow like that. and i admit i am too o__o; but then again. Who isnt?

You have people who look good but aren't good at singing, Ron Ng.

And you have people who dont look awesomely drop dead gorgeous, but are extremely good singers like Jay Chou.

Then you have the perfect groups like DBSK and artists like Lee Hom who sing extremely well and are all goodlooking too.

Singing would take you further in the long run though; compared to looks. I guess you need a mix of both.
Elinia
it depends on the person...

there are people who are fine by merely looks and there are those who are very keen when it comes to talent...

the entertainment world is a dichotomy of who sells and who doesn't
Kayem
I choose singing over looks because a guy may be hot as hell, but I won't pay as much attention to him as I would to an "uglier" but talented guy.
A lot of people say singing talent is the priority, too, but they are total liars xD.

QUOTE

I actually agree~lolz! But this is mostly in the case of idols and pop artistes.

Although sometimes a not so goodlooking singer will be HOT as hell if he/she really has an awesome voice and great talent.

And I think fans also look on personalities.
ytyl
i prefer looks.

but i will only be a fan of the artiste that have both looks and talents.
self_hypnosis
^ what? So if someone isn't so goodlooking but they are great at singing, you would choose to not be a fan just because they arent pretty or hot? Sheeeesh that's shallow!
*HellBoi*
I prefer looks than to talent.
BUT talents will only take u further in life not your looks.

A friend of mine says that looks are more important than
your talents but he is dumb anyway.!!hehe
mashimaroluff
i want the whole package B)
im shallow, i judge the book by its cover
if the singers are pretty/hot, i'll check out their music but if the music suck then buh-bye
looks do play a major factor on what i choose, but if there this incredible songs playing but the singer isnt good looking, who care, i listen to his music, not drooling over him..
Michelle.
of course singing is the most important thing... to me at least.
i wouldn't care less if u look like crap, if ur singing is good, i'll still listen to u.
but if u suck at singing then i'll just ignore u.
and i also mostly listen to singers who sing from their hearts,
and not just sing because they have to and wanna earn some big bucks and fame
like leehom wang for example, he really did catch my attention first with his looks
but then i started to like him for more than that, for his passion in music
i admired his talent a whole lot, so i really enjoy listening to his songs
i also like to listen to arron yan in fahrenheit sing because he sings with feelings as well
u can tell in his songs that he puts a lot of effort and heart into this songs,
too bad he has to sing in a group... cus no offense but i can't find any feelings in the other members' vocals
he would do great as a soloist... i'm sure he would be even more popular than now
also there's another singer that i really adore, she's called yuna ito,
and she is really good at singing, she has a nice and rich voice,
and i like how she can actually sing live very well and also put feelings into her songs
so yeah if u put your heart into something u do, i'm sure ppl will like u and feel it, even if u don't have the looks, they'll be able to see past that... hopefully.
Nakuruin
Jay looks relatively the same from before he debuted and now... just more stylish in terms of haircut and clothes. ^^ Some people think he's droolworthy and others think he's ugly, it's your opinion. His talent is what shines though, and it's definitely the first thing i noticed before his looks.

Most of the time i'll hear the song before i see the singer... i'll only search for MVs or pictures if i like the song. ^^

If a "singer" sucks at singing, then what am i supposed to do? Stare at the person's picture? :S A singer must be able to sing well but looks are not that important to me because i won't notice it immediately.
Shoe.
Singing. A good-looking person who can't sing must well not sing at all and go do something else instead, e.g. acting. I usually go for talent than looks x= Or better, I go for the songs/music without knowing how the singer look like.
xxduckbutt
above and beyond, one of the things i hate the most is someone claiming to be a singer when they cant even hold a note for longer than two counts. if you're aspiring to become a singer than you better know how to sing. but that being said, society nowadays is completey shallow. all you need is looks and that'll get you a record deal. and this is happening because people are becoming more and more shallow. like a crow that is attracted to shiny objects, humans are attracted to good looking people.

vocal talent, writing and composing talent are lacking. but you need to have both looks and talent to make it far. because to the record companies, you are worth as much as you sell. i personally prefer those that may not be as gorgeous but can awe me. people like eason chan, gary cao, alan kuo, david tao, a-yue chang, sam lee and same for the female singers. because it's their singing that creates goosebumps :]
honeycomb1010
I go for talent first for sure, looks is only a bonus
looks don't hold my attention for long
lavenderwingz
well for me, i havent really focused on who the person actually is. i learn new songs from the radio, or w/e my friends choose to send to me. im known for NOT knowing singers' names, and song titles, b/c honestly for me, i really just dont care. i listen to the songs for the songs, and the singer's ability to sing, everything else i really dont care

but the entertainment business is a really shallow place anyways, mucho ppl say that singing is what they look for, however most ppl would normally go for the good looking ones, and somehow convince themselves that they can sing.

there's singer in China, she's a really great singer, but the thing is that she's overweight and looks like a boy, but when she sings, goodness, she sounds like an angel. but i bet no one would really give her a chance unless they heard her songs first.
Shoe.
>>lavenderwingz: you don't mean Han Hong? XD I do listen to her songs and I found them great. Those who don't give them a chance are mostly those who go for the looks first, like my mom >.> But in the end, she did listen to her songs.. and of course, started to like them~
miss scarlett
I say both is equally as important.

For me, the first thing I look for is looks, which is very natural, so I'm not at all ashamed of liking a celebrity from his looks FIRST, lol. :] (People should stop being ashamed of liking a celebrity because of looks...)

Second for me will be voice. If you are asking me if I will choose Jay Chou or JJ Lin, both in my opinion are not very good-looking, but for looks I will choose Jay Chou, I will choose JJ Lin for singing. I think he has a talented voice. So yes, I'm a much larger fan of JJ Lin than Jay Chou.

Same with Rain or Se7en. I personally think Rain has the better looks, but for voice I pick Se7en. Therefore I'm a bigger Se7en fan.

There are still a lot of people that contains both. Like what some mentioned, Wang Leehom and DBSK are good examples of both looks+talent. Add Super Junior on the list too, LOL XD

But sometimes both looks and voice are not the most important. In my opinion, the most important is the melody of the song. If that singer produces good songs, (or the songs that I like personally), most likely I will support him/her.

For example: Joey Yung. She's not very pretty but I think she has a good voice. However, I'm not a big fan of her because I'm not a fan of her music much.
ciarain
I choose 50% looks & 50% talent . If i like someone for his looks , I will become a fangirl . If I like someone for his talent , I will become a real fan . Too good if he has both and I will go crazy for him !!!! haha biggrin.gif
litoxaznbabix91
Well I'm alito bit of both. I luv a great singer but i gotta admit I alito shallow I also go for the good looking boybands too. I.E. fahrenheit haha yea but i think fahrenheit are wicked talented as well. Still people such as TANK and JJ Lin...might not be the best looking guys out there but that doesn't really matter cuz they are both wicked talented and that surpass their looks.
zxcv2
singing talent is MOST important...duh lol. because if you can sing well and win teh crowd, then tehy will gradually or almost imemdiately think you're hot.

of course if you look good and sing well, then you definitely have an advantage.
♥hippo-holic♥
For me both is important but yeah there are some singers that are soo good in singing but not that good looking like Harlem Yu & the korean singer Howl both of them are freakin' amazing when singing.

Well, most of the singers i like are freaking good looking like KimJungHoon, ZaiZai, Tvxq, ArronYan, etc....
JaeAyUmIXxChun
i ever hate Jay Zhou for his look but why people got crazy over him...
but then, i saw his Shanghai 1943 MV and heard for the song.. i totally got hooked up with the song..
and i tried to find all his songs.. and i became so crazy over him.... and he looks so so so much better nowadays.. i mean he's not that good looking but he got the style and talent.. so i think i prefer talent (singing) than the look...

but i also ever love artists because of their looks.. but my idol-ism towards them won't last long.. and i'll easily get bored...because they just have looks but no talents.. (in here, Fahrenheit - no offense)

same goes some actors, in here my fave is Ming Dao, i used to hate his look.. because i think he's ugly.. but after seeing his acting skill... i love him more...

so i think i prefer for skill/talent than just look..
WuZunEllaCute
i will personally choose singing than looks, it's not that i say that looks is not important... it's just that when you singing, you must have vocal and stands out that you have talent for it.. what for if you have good looks but when you sing, it's like a frog!!!

i know that some of you here(maybe) dislike Ella because of her looks... but i just want to point that she REALLY have great talents, her acting skills is great and when she sing, omg so sooth.. her voice rox!!! i like her raps and she totally rox!!!

and i will prefer talents more than looks!!!
♥teyu-
hmmmm. this question applies differently to each person really. for me, if i hear a person's voice before seeing their looks, i would keep that good opinion of them in my heart(eg. zhou hui). but if i see them before hearing their voice/attitude, that negative feeling would stay in my for life(eg. cyndi wang).

its not rare that a person that i love like crazy would fall into my black list within a day wink.gif (eg. jiro wang from FRH). i think its better if i already dislike a person from the start then to hate a person overnight~ that is much worse LOL
1.gif

oh i think i havent answered the question yet sweat.gif so... looks or singing?none. personality comes first smile.gif
chocolatesummer
I dont know why but i have this thing against goood looking actors/ singers seriously. The first thing that comes to my mind when i see them is that they get their popularity from looks not talents and that os what i really dislike about celebs with great looks.. for me of course, SINGING! is still the best.. not LOOKS! because looks deteriorates with time whereas singing dont.. =)
aly xP
i'd go for the singing. i mean it's not really called talent if you only have a pretty face. but if they can sing no matter how ugly they are, it's really the voice that balances out their looks.
Felicitationx3
I know that talent should play a bigger factor in showbiz than looks, but sadly its the other way around. It seems like if you have looks and personality [and maybe money] you can be famous. Example: Wu Zun.
Hes not that good at acting yet he is considered 'good'.This is simply because he is the classic prince-like features, plus hes body is smoking!
Anyway, a person I think has a lot of talents [maybe not perfect] is Show Luo. Maybe he might strike you as arrogant, but I promise you, its all about the personality.

=D over and out! <3
::Manjusaka::
lol...of course it would be the best if the singer has the look, the talent, and a good personality! but there just too few...for me, personality comes first, then talent, nd last is the look. i seriously don't give a cxxx for people who are arrogant nd self-centered no matter how talented or HOT they are.
my perception of a person's look changes over time after i get to know him/her. its all about what inside of them. wang leehom is one of the stars who i think suits all of these qualities, also aaron yan from fahrenheit, nd of course my favorite TVXQ ^^

im just s little curious, since u said that he's arrogant, then what about his personality stand out for you?
im not bashing him, its just everytime when i see him being so rude and disrespectful to the fans makes me shiver. maybe he's just trying to be funny to get the shows going, but...he gotta be more considerate for how other feels.
acmilansoccer999
i think looks are more important imean if an actor or actress really bad at singing they can always tweak it and stuff so it sounds good. they can always make someone sound good, but look thaz just pure something u gotz.

I'm a big fan of Show, but I know what Felicitationx3 means when she said "Show might strike others as arrogant." He's not really arrogant because he knows he's not perfect. He just tends to promote his works alot on YLBFB, so he appears to be arrogant. He's actually very humble. And yeah, sometimes, on YLBFB, he jokes with the fans...and that might come across as "rude/disrespectful," but he's only doing it in a joking way. Also, it's his responsibility as the host to bring in ratings, so sometimes he does crazy stuff.

Anyways, back to the question. I think singing talent is more important. Being good looking is just a bonus.
Just because the guy is gorgeous doesn't mean he can survive in the business. Although, these days, that does seem like the case. For example, Wu Zun is hot, but he doesn't have THAT much talent. His singing is not that good and his acting is just average. But, he's really popular because people think he's hot.
Then, there's people like JJ Lin, Tank and Jay Chou. They might not the be the best looking (although I think JJ is really cute), but they definetely have the talent (JJ's voice is absolutely amazing). And they are just as popular, if not more than the "only good looking" guys.
WayyliEn
talents are definitley more important, but if you have the looks, then it almost doesnt matter whether you have talent or not cause people are going to like you either way (obviously more if you have the talent also).

I agree with Wayyli. I mean, looks matter a lot these days. You don't see a lot of famous 'ugly people' [there are a few though]. The not-so-hot people with good vocals can only be seen as non-famous people with famous songs. . .
thewonderbegins
I think talent is more important. But ideally, you wanna be a bit of both.
I think there's no point being a singer if you are amazingly good-looking but lack in singing well. But tbh, in reality, if you weren't as good looking and sung really well, you probably wouldn't be a popular or make it as someone who was really good looking and didn't sing that well...
midnightdreamz
I think singing is more important than looks because looks are not everything. The person must be good at singing but if they are good looking than that is a bonus. Looks is not everything. For example I like Hacken Lee, Eason Chad, Leo Ku and they are not good looking. lol
EDnGILL
the looks don't really matter when it comes to singing..
i won't be bias & say someone isn't good looking,
because i actually find everyone good looking..
so here goes, i love rainie's voice, boa's voice,
gillian's voice, joey's voice, angela's voice, nic's voice,
kenny's voice, steven's voice.. & actually a lot more..
but those are the ones i usually listen to.. keke..
& that doesn't mean i don't think they're good looking
because i actually think they're all good looking..
& i find their voices very nice to listen to..
latte543
talent is more important... however, you can't really look thaaat bad to be a celebrity.
Live.Laugh.Learn.
Talent is more important of course.

Although talents is the main criteria for a celebrity, if you don't have the LOOKS, you won't get recognized, MUCH. TANK is an example. That guy have amazing talents, but not that much people into him.
