I think she's pretty, compare her to average, random Asians you'll find at the mall and she would looks heaps better. I think if people have a reason to dislike her, then it should be because of her talent or lack of talent.
I was just like everyone else who didn't understand why she was famous when her acting was sub-par, but 2046 changed my mind. Honestly anyone who hasn't seen 2046, has not seen her talent. She was praised like crazy by critics for her performance, and I can see why. Of course though, there are the avid haters who would say she's a bad actress regardless of how well she performed. She could win five oscars and the haters would still call her talentless, you can't always please everyone. I'm fine with her.

I think there is already a hate thread for her. But then, regarding to what you said about she being ugly, well, that is your opinion. No one can be definite whether she is a big beauty or a friggin old hag. Some people do not like her because she is pretty, they like her because they enjoy seeing her acting, and that they think she has the makings of a sophisticated young lady. Everyone is considered beauty so even if you think she is ugly, this does not necessarily apply to everyone.

i really like to see those calling out celebrities as ugly to show their pictures in comparison, so we can at least see if they have the right to call other people ugly.

I'm not her fan, but she's definately not ugly. Please look up thw term "ugly" in the dictionary. Just because there are others who are prettier than her it does not say that she is ugly. In fact, she's a natural beauty which we hardly see nowadays.

i thnk she's avg, i honestly dun really see the beauty that everyone speaks of. but that's just because i never liked the characters that she played, which affected how i see her physically as well.

i do think that she does posess something that the ppl doesnt have, cant pinpoint wht, but to judge a person (in this case an actress) b/c of her looks is not a good idea.

She's not ugly with make-up...hahaha. I don't think she's ugly. Her other qualities make up for her lack of beauty in the face. The elegance is superior. The way she conducts herself is beautiful. Even down to the films she chooses.

I'm not a big fan of hers, but she's not ugly. I have seen worse. Lately she's been putting on a ton of makeup which isn't really suitable for her face but otherwise she's pretty.

I like her acting.. she usually has that mysterious aura when she acts so it makes her characters interesting so thats why i like her.

okay, I wouldn't say shes ugly. Beauty is defined differently for everyone and its okay if you think that way. The reason I don't like her is because the quality of her acting. No offense to those who like her, but her acting isn't really cut out for Hollywood. The reason she is in Hollywood movies is because of her rich boyfriend and her small role in a file directed by Zhang Yi Mo (who happend to have directed the Olympics opening and closing). Compare to Chinese Hollywood actresses like Gong Li, ZZY lacks immense amount of experience

ZZY seems to be settling down a bit since she is engaged and keeping her private life a little bit more private. But it just kinda interests me, is she trying to marry into an American family to get more financial support/ green card to boost her job opportunities or is she actually settling down with someone she truly loves? I can't really judge her since I don't know her personally, but what are the chances of falling in love with someone so much older than you . can't help but to wonder the motives behind her engagement. I think it's mostly because they're jealous of her more than anything else, she's achieved a lot in such a young age, many people want to do that but can't.

And personally, I think she is very beautiful, in a sort of ethereal way. She's got that oriental, china doll look and she carries herself with a certain poise and grace. That's why she's very suitable for roles in those ancient China movies and stuff.

And I think her acting skills are quite good so that should make up for her looks(to other people who don't think she's pretty).

i think the usual chinese perception of beauty is quite different from the westerners.
in chinese eyes, zhang zi yi would just be average, nothing attractive about her.

I admit though that if you google image her, those images do not do her justice AT ALL. Most of them look very old. The pictures you see of her on magazines in Asia are far more flattering.

I think she's gorgeous and has all the characteristics asian women want. Big eyes, double eye lids, pointy face, high nose bridge, pale skin, etc.
