Hey everyone! I posted this tutorial in IF and I just thought I would post it here too =].
I don't wanna be too strict but try not to copy exactly from the tutorial >.< Make your filtering unique and not plain like mine.
I was NOT going to post this tutorial because I don't want a lot of people to have the same kind of filtering as me. Just get an idea from this tutorial peoples!!! Elaborate your filtering more [does that make sense o.O] I meant filter it more after this tutorial because this tutorial is just basic filtering... ok I'll shut up now xD...
DO NOT DISTRIBUTE THIS TUTORIAL ANYWHERE ELSE OR I'LL CHOP YOUR HEAD OFF!!!!!

RIP = R.I.P.
Puahah I got that from some forum xD What it means is DO NOT TAKE MY RESULTS AND USE THEM AS TEXTURES. MAKE YOUR OWN. I noticed someone using my results [thats right i have good eyes]. This is why these tutorials are here and I'll know if you used it >=]. I didn't do all this hard work for you guy to just take it as a texture. If I wanted you to use it then I would just post it as textures NOT tutorials. I will not tell you to stop but you should STOP.

Filtering

-Create a new document with a black background.
-Make a new layer.
-Get a round brush.
-Hold down shift while you draw a line.
-Go to filter>distort>shear. Do something like THIS.
-Then erase the ends so it'll look something like THIS.
-Duplicate the layer and go to Filter>Blur>Motion Blur. Distant from 20-40. Turn the angle until one end is small and the other is big like THIS.
-Duplicate it again so it'll be more visible. Rotate those two layers until it fits with the line like THIS.
-Select the bottom layer. Select inverse and erase so it'll be less visible.
-Duplicate it or make another one and rotate them.
Extra:
After that maybe you can shear/twirl/polar coordinate/wave it??? Add more stuff x]

EXAMPLES:
Not a really good example but you get teh idea

Sorry if you don't understand it. I'm horrible at explaining....

Lol. :]

Yuura I Saw a Tutorial Like.
This On Soompi.

Its Good

Not Good Lol n_innocent.gif
Yuura
StarrySky_Butterfly: Aww I wanna see your results!! You can filter the filtering you did xDDD lol Like twirl/shear/polar coordinates/etc. and maybe motion blur and sharpen.
About the color..... Just make a new layer and color it whatever color you want and then put it on soft light or color. Soft light is a little lighter and color is darker.

§ugar§ugar♥♥: There's a tutorial like this in Soompi?!!?! *dies*
Is the filtering the background or the white thingy on her arm?? I can't tell -.- lol
.sugarhearts
Lol Yuura.
The Filtering is on the swirly bit.
Lol *cringes*
The white part on her arm.
was the bit i forgot to erase.
Opps! n_innocent.gif

"DO NOT DISTRIBUTE THIS TUTORIAL ANYWHERE ELSE OR I'LL CHOP YOUR HEAD OFF!!!!!"

I love that line XD!

I use to do that kinda of technique with a light texture (yes I was cheap) , But I'm using lens flare, because i'm not cheap ^___^. Well im lazy so yes ahah. Yes the pen tool is very usefull. I tried it once, but I had to adjust the curve fil thing to make it more curvier .

And to StarrySky_Butterfly, you can also press CTRL+U , which is hue/sat , and you can like, check the coloring thingy and yeah xp .

Oh goodness...I shall love, love, love you! Thank you so much for taking your time and effort in attempting to teach us the basics of filtering. My filtering skills are -10, so I really appreciate this. I'll return some time later to show you the results. smile.gif

Yuura
O.O I forgot about this thread.

§ugar§ugar♥♥: Lol xD I knew that.
The filtering is pretty good =D but thats a different kind of filtering than my tutorial xDD

Herr_Secrets: Haha don't worry I filter textures too xDD and I still do >.< because I'm lazy... yep yep pen tool is awesome but sometimes its hard D=

xxTekkenBabexx: Aww... your welcome happy.gif Can't wait to see your results!!

macy: No problem ^^ Aww don't say ur filtering is -10!!! You just have to practice and you'll be super good at filtering =D Can't wait to see your results!!!
.sugarhearts

Yeah... I hate the pen tool...
ANYWAYZ! Lovel-ly, lovely! Love you, love the tutorial!
This is what I came up with, looks crappy... but meh.

Hey look! A `b a n a n a!``*
DEAD-dolliie
ii suck at filtering, but ii guess this tutorial will help me improve a lot biggrin.gif
thanks!

here's mine.

did some simple edit haha!
Yuura
§ugar§ugar♥♥: Yes you hold down shift and then draw the line.
Trang.: Aww... your welcome. I'll be waiting for your results xD
Nina_Sakura: Yep no pen tool. Pen tool is a little hard to explain =/ Aw.. you hate pen tool? but its soo fast x] Friggen awesome results!!! It looks really cool
DEAD-dolliie O.O YOU DO NOT SUCK AT FILTERING!! Look at that!! It amazing! But maybe you can duplicate it and rotate it around and also erase unwanted spots. =] Great job though
lovewls
Thanks so much for having this tutorial - I totally suck at filters, so this really helps!
SHYGIRL
Thank you so much Yuura. It helping me alot. I am not good at filter. I hope you write another filter tutorial.

Here my result: I used pen tool, brush, stock picture. I like to do filter but taking alot time. I spend 3 hours to do it.

.sugarhearts
Just wanted to ask. how do u get them like in colour? the filtering? do u just change the colour from white at the beginning? when u draw the line?
Yuura
lovewls: Your welcome ^^ and you totally do not need filtering. Your graphic is already beautiful without it. =]

SHYGIRL: shocked.gif OMG!! THAT IS SOO AWESOME!!!! and you did all of it from scratch?!?! and stock pictures?!? That is amazing. You're even better at filtering than me man. I can never do something like that O.O It's really really awesome!! Great job!!

§ugar§ugar♥♥:

Oh god, i so wanna try this out. biggrin.gif Thanks for making this tut smile.gif But i cannot view the pictures thoughhh... X.X

Mind reuploading or something? It's okay if you dont want to smile.gif
katherinekwokhk
for some reason, i cant use the inverse selection. it always says something about pixels not found or something.

``I do what my r i c e . k r i s p i e s tell me to do--

Go to Load Selection first, and then click OK.
THEN you can do inverse wink.gif
Inverse doesn't work when it selects the whole thing.

Hey look! A `b a n a n a!``*
Yuura
Trang.: Psh that is not crappy!! It looks awesome!! Don't use filtering too much though. It can become very messy.

forgivenx: Ehhh? You can't?? Ok lemme see if it works for me first because I think I deleted all the pictures from my computer o.o

katherinekwokhk: Yea.. what Nina_Sakura said xDDD Wait... I think I know your problem. Ok Make a new layer before you draw the line in the third step. Don't draw the line on the background.

Edit//
The pictures are working fine but I'll reupload it again anyways.
Gumpychan
When you create a new document to you use the brush tool on a new transparent layer? Cause you said duplicate it so it's more visible, but if it's a solid layer on normal mode it wouldn't make a difference? Sorry if it sounds confusing. >_<;;

Oh, another question...what do you mean by select the bottom layer and select inverse?
Yuura
^ Yeaa.. draw the line on the new transparent layer. Sorry I forgot to put that step in.. but even if you draw it on the background it doesn't really matter. Just put all the layers on Screen except the background.
and I meant go to the layer you drew your line in the beginning and select or Ctrl+click on layer. and then go to select>inverse.
Little Mushroom
Yuura how do you filter like in the picture of dead-dollie?
Its soo hard to filter><
Yuura
^ I'm not quite sure but I think this is how she did it.

1. New document. Black background.
2. Filter>render>lens flare. Use the 50-300mm zoom.
3. Filter>distort>Polar Coordinates. Rectangle to polar.
4. Filter>distort>twirl. Angle: more than 300 degree

You get similar results

Filtering part 2

You start out with this

1. Use the pen tool and make a line. Ex
2. Click on the middle of the line and while holding ctrl click on the dot in the middle and make a curve. Ex
3. Make a new layer. Create mask clipping. Ex
4. Put a black and white gradient over it. Ex
5. Right click and choose rasterize layer. Merge the two layer and but on screen. Ex
5. Rotate and erase the straight part a little bit. Ex
6. Duplicate the layer and rotate it around again. Ex
You can stop there OR
7. Merge layer.
8. Distort it. Like: Polar Coordinates, twirl, shear, etc.
9. You can also use motion blur. I love motion blur <3
10. Don't forget to rotate/duplicate/erase unwanted parts. Be creative.

Result:
Polar Coordinate

Twirl

Ex:

Horrible example -.- Too lazy to take my time and make a good example...

Hello!
My gosh, I didn't realize you put up another tutorial... gosh.
I don't think anyone else did either = =; you should announce it (:
Em, I did the first tutorial, but the results were like crap. Ahaha. I'm not really good at positioning good either -sigh-

Ahaha;; um, you can see a bit of filtering on the left of Rainie. Just a puny bit.

But damnn, everything is so complicated, did you figure out filtering yourself? I actually think it's pretty easy, following your steps. But figuring it out must be hell. Thanks so much for being generous enough to put it out in steps for us. Meh, people shouldn't steal. Filtering must be complicated, that's why no one puts them up as textures (not you kind, anyway... and I like yours the best because the lines are really clear and stuff).
For your second version, do you think you can reupload the picture for STEP FOUR? I'm not sure how to do it, so a picture would help, and for some reason, it wouldn't load for me.
God, I'm blabbing, aren't I? Sorry (:
kirill
Yay another filtering tutorial! *bookmarks* There's so little good filtering tutorials out there (everyone's probably quite unwilling to share trade secrets T_T), but yours is awesome (plus you're willing to share ^^). Thanks!

colorful_world: Holy crap the first banner's so pretty! <3 Love the filtering and lighting, it's definitely not crap! *stares at pretty banners and dies* I need to learn how to make pretty stuff like that. T_T
Yuura
colorful_world: Oh dang those banners are nice!! I guess I should announce when I update huh? I just forgot to xD Haha it took me like a long time to figure how to do it =/ At first I just swirly lines with shear and twirl and all those stuff and then I started using motion blur and I was like HEY that looks cool haha
I'll reupload step 4 and I just realized I put 5 twice O.O

kirill: Aww thanks =] I think a lot of people posted filtering tutorials you just have to look carefully and it is not called filtering sweat.gif It's just something Soompiers call but you can find tons of tutorials on filtering by searching abstract lines or abstract textures or something liek that.

Filtering Brushes
I posted a long time ago on Illustrious but I guess I forgot to post it here? o.o

yay this is awesomeee <3. ahahaha I gave up on mastering filtering and instead resorted to cheating with fractals, brushes, textures, and whatnot. ^^ Just don't ask me to do it from scratch, I'll die. X_X

*hands cookies*
.sugarhearts
OMG I DID IT!
Thanks Yuura.
=]
Ohhh. Those brushes look yummy.
Thanks.
I figured out that i had to use a 3 size small brush for
drawing a line lol.
lovelyprincessivy
For this Select the bottom layer. Select inverse and erase so it'll be less visible.
-Duplicate it or make another one and rotate them.
What do you mean by select inverse? When I rotate it, the whole thing changes, please help.
