I don't think it will help increase the rating of their series if they got most of their old veterans back. Nowadays many people are into watching korean, japanese, taiwanese dramas and sometimes mainland production or they are busy with work and busy with outdoor activities.

I think it's great that TVB is bringing back the veterans. In my opinion, the quality of TVB series have gone down dramatically over the past years. The series now don't match up to the shows from the 80s and 90s in terms of acting and scripts. I think people have been turned off by the lack of quality acting in current series. I watch the new series and enjoyed a lot of them, but I still think the older series from the 80s and 90s are better. I find myself wanting to watch those old series more than the current ones.
I do agree though that peoples' busy schedules and the abundance of series from other countries have led to the decrease in TVB viewership, though lack of quality acting and scripts also contributes to it.
I am looking forward to seeing the veterans back. Margie Tsang, Gallen Lo, etc. I also wish other veterans would come back. They're the ones that carry the series. Whether TVB series ratings will increase or not, it's too early to tell. But I think if they don't increase, it will not be because the veterans don't have enough star power, but because people just don't have the time to watch tv.

TVB just lacks new-blood talent, to which they didn't respond to the root of the problem by pouring money into their training class (which quality actors came out of including Bobby and other veterans). The last line of graduates from training class making it 'big' was Raymond and Tavia. TVB just blindly invest in talentless beauty pageant winners and hope hyping them up would be ok. I guess it is ok since they are the market leader by far but the ratings dropped because the viewers just rather not watch TV.
So in order to spike the ratings up, they get old veterans to come back to lead and help promote their Mr/Miss HK/Int etc...if the ratings goes up due to veteran's quality acting, the newbies gets credit for it.
Since there's no competition in HK, there's no motivation for TVB to improve their actors' acting abilities or quality of the script. 80-90s is heaps better because ATV was stronger and TVB didn't promote Miss HK as leads as much.

I'm really glad that TVB is inviting all the old veterans back because right now TVB is missing talents now since all th egood actors and actresses are leaving TVB. (For example: Kenix Kwok, Jessica Hsuan, Frankie Lam, Michelle Yip, etc..) And TVB is losing a lot of watchers and their ideas for plots are getting really lame. lol =P

I think it will make very little difference in the ratings. Some 2007 series had some old veterans but the ratings weren't as high as I thought, 27-30 points max. 80's and 90's series had such high ratings because there weren't any people downloading with bit torrents. One of the main reasons I believe ratings dropped in the last 3-5 years is because of the increase people downloading with bit torrent. People don't want to wait till a certain time 8:30 pm or 9:30 pm for the show.
TVB is also shady when it comes to making ancient series, they haven't made any good one in a long time.

i thnk tvb needs to bring back their old veterans to show the young guys what acting is
i thnk bringing back the young stars' idols is the best way to teach them and motivate them into becoming superstars

Many people grew up watching tvb shows and a lot over time just want to watch something different from time to time. TVB is making the right move to get some old veterans back. I have to agree that the scripts and actors are not as good as back than but still pretty good and sometimes great. In these times of internet access, people can watch anything and everything. I am so looking forward to seeing some old veterans back.

TVB is mostly remake of the old series with lame actor/actress. Now and day we watch movie online or download which cut into the cost = less money = less talent.

As much as I love watching the old veterns of TVB, I still think they should get their acting class back first and definitely better script writers.
I remember the old TVB series were always so touching and meaningful, even to the last episode (ex: healing hands 1, the law one with Bobby in it, etc.)
But now a days all the TVB episodes are either bad from beginning to end, or they start out good but end crappy.

i think TVB should bring back all the veterans back instead of promoting all those talentless actors
It would be great if TVB would invite back some of the great veterans, who really have great acting skills. Sometimes, the newbies in TVB just do not have that "talent" yet, and it is boring to keep seeing the same old faces (the newcomers), series after series.

I do miss watching some of the old veteran so it might be a good idea. But some of the old veterans who came back hasn't performed to their previous capacity and their presence did not affect the rating. They also don't fit so well with the younger crowd.

I think it's a good idea to have the old veterans back to film for TVB. Like recently I have just seen Margie Tsang come back and her series DIE. Her character in this series was portrayed pretty well. And I have read that Kathy Chow is filming The Academy III with Michael Miu. I can't wait to see her in there.

^ i agree. Nothing's new now maybe some but not as good as it was before. ^^ Maybe it was because I've seen loads and not interested in some because of their same storylines.

Bringing back old veterans is a good idea overall.

I love the old actors and actresses.

it's good that they are brining old veterans but you can't always rely on them, it is sadder when they are the reason to bring up the ratings. Just look at MR, a lot of HK people are liking it because of louise lee. I think TVB should work on their young actors. Veterans just help temporary

I like the fact that they bring back old talented actress, but really what they should be focusing is investing in the future talents. Training them properly and promoting those who have star protential and not just because they like them.

but lack of talent isn't their only issue though so bringing back veteran doesn't mean rating will automatically increase. I use to only watch TVB but now drifted else where as well..though i still rent old series to watch cause i like them.

TVB really needs the old actors back to help boost ratings. They need more seasoned verterans on board to teach the new actors they bring on board yearly.
I'm glad they're bring back some of the older, more seasoned actors/actresses. While some of the newer, younger actors do have talent, I think they lack the ability to have good screen presence. I think sometimes for actors to be on screen with a sense of belonging and purpose is more difficult then to be able to recite the script convincingly.

I am not sure if I'm saying anything that hasn't already been mentioned before, but...I think TVB has gone down the water in recent years. There's a lot of factors that contributed to this which many have already mentioned, such as bad script, poor acting, etc. Someone made a really good point earlier, that there's an increase of downloading online, hence the lower viewership.
Anyway, bringing the veterans back can only do so much for the ratings. If the scripts and the others' acting remain poor, the quality of the drama is still affected. If TVB faces more competition, then it'll be a different story.

Well its a great way to bring in the fans of the olding days when they had acting skools and stuff and ppl are not from rich families and worked hard on their acting. I think people will probably communicate better with the veteran because they grown around the time the fans and viewers (housewives i mean) have also grown. So there is a connection with the veteran. Plus, its way better cause alot of them can act !!!!! unlike the newble tvb is trying to push out there that arent pretty and cannot act. ><

i think that bringing the old veterans back may or may not help with the ratings of the series.
They should. >< Right now, I find it very boring just looking at the same (talented/talentless) actors/actresses appearing on my TV screen again and again. Even if the plot is good, I couldn't find a good reason for myself to watch it. Back when most of the veterans were still in TVB, I watched every single series. But few years back, I stopped completely and just watched those that interest me... sad to say, only a few appealed to me.
What!!!!!

i reckon its an awesome idea- their acting quality is generally much better than the ones of present day tvb stars and they add real depth to a series. tvb is currently investing in MHKS and models, etc. its not working well seeing as none of them really have much talent. except linda, whos kinda starting to grow on me-ish. but she cries too much..
yeah, so i think it's a good idea. at least it would probably increase the quality of TVB dramas
Oh Crap!!

bringing the old veterans back is not a bad idea, since alot of the newer actors and actresses are less experienced, it'll draw the interest of the older generation to start watching again...but I don't think they should play the main roles, it would then seem like tvb has nobody else who's qualified to lead.

I think it's awesome. If only Andy Lau was still acting in series. Oh well, it's wonderful to see him rocket to international fame, he deserves it.

Possibly the best veteran to return was Michael Miu Kiu Wai. He suits villainous roles perfectly.
Doing this will definitely make older generation viewers feel more at home.

It might help attract the attention of the older generations to watch more series. Plus, new people might be able to learn a thing or two from them. But I think it also depends on the script and the plot to be good.

I don't mind seeing them if they were very good, I just get the feeling they are bored being retired, it has nothing to do with the extra income, I'm sure they don't need it. They enjoy working as well seeing old mate.

I completely love it when old veterans come back to film...well some of them aren't old, but veterans in general...because they have acting experience and it's nice to watch people that are good. I feel like some of the new generations of actors aren't as good...and are only supported because of their looks an popularity, i don't really watch a series mainly because of it's cast i watch it cause of the plot and how good the actors and actresses are.

The only thing that can help Tvb now is if Tvb brings back its good writers, actors and actresses who can act (e.g. Jessica, sunny, Louis, kenix, Frankie, bobby, Gigi, Wong he, gallen etc) and put them in a series with a good script.
Tvb should stop promoting those horrible actors who without their looks would not even have a chance in the entertainment industry. Also, Tvb should seriously stop making all series about family which consists of the super old veteran actors. What happened to all the cop and detective sereis that Tvb use to make and were good at (e.g. the DIF series etc)
Bring old Tvb back!!

What will happen when they run out of veterans?!?!

^ They will never run out of veterans, cos the newer generations like Raymond Lam, Ron Ng, Tavia Yeung, Myolie Wu etc. They will become veterans in about 10 yrs or sooner!
