the small company buys the gelatin from the small business-owners, who save the gelatin from their smaller animals. when this guy told me, after i said 'jello is my favorite". he said "they are made from cows." i said "youre lying". he said "no". i said "you mean they put some fat to make it taste better?" he said "yeah". i said "oh, i'll only eat the asian-version then." he said "those are worse. there made from the other animals." I WAS SO GROSSED. but, one kind of asian-jelly i have says "made from seaweed extract". he says "they left out jelly, its on the label, but not the ingredients list." so, ANYBODY KNOW WHAT KIND OF GELATIN IS ASIAN-JELLY MADE FROM? eggs?sugar?fat?animalfat?plants?honey?fruit-gel?plainwater&powder?syrup?
Love. Music.
actually western jello has this one ingredient in it thats made out of horse meat so thats why veggitarians cant eat jello. Would u consider horse as a ranch animal? if so then that guy is actually telling the truth.. partially.
As for asian jello it comes from the same ingedient but mixed with others stuff too which means that it has some horse meat in there too.

i remember my grade 7 teacher saying something about gelatin being made from horse spit...or somewhere else inside the mouth. it's a very vague memory...but i'm 100% sure it's from farm animals

Gelatin (also gelatine, from French gélatine) is a translucent, colorless, brittle, nearly tasteless solid substance, extracted from the collagen inside animals' connective tissue. It has been commonly used as an emulsifier in food, ....
Gelatin is a protein produced by partial hydrolysis of collagen extracted from the bones and connective tissues of animals such as the domesticated cattle, and horses.

and yes, it is made out of horse and cow hooves, wait, i think pigs too, im not sure though

There is also animal free gelatin made of pectin

Vegetarians can't eat gelatin, except the so-called pesca(sp?) -vegetarians will eat fish geletin. But we can eat Kanten(agar agar, seaweed-extract), pectin(usually from apples or grapes), and Konjac Jelly (Konnyaku, devil's tongue root starch). Konjac jelly is really good, and it doesn't need to be refrigerated to set-up.

I never know gelatin is from animal, wow... but I think chinese jello is extracted from plants, more like agar.

Like mentioned already, gelatin is derived from horse hooves and is usually the ingredient in Jell-O brand jello. I think Asian jello usually uses agar, which is derived from seaweed.

lol did no one ever went to science class or watched an alton brown show? or have a jewish friend o.O?

"Gelatin - 1) a protein derived from animals, comes in sheets or powders 2) when the collagen that composes connective tissue is heated it will, given enough moisture, melt, resulting in gelatin" - Michael Ruhlman from Elements of Cooking

The more you know~
