Andy Lau will release a Cantonese album this month. Soo..it's more than enough for Metro/JSG. He plugged 2 Cantonese songs this year: 一晚長大 & 未到傷心處

As for Paco & Metro, it's stupid and makes him/the company look petty. I mean..mad at Metro!??! for 2 years?!?! I believe it's more the Leo vs. Eason rather than the total # of GL, considering the unremarkable year for GL this year.

Denise has confirmed that she will not attend RTHK (as expected). Wonders if East Asia really will boycott? Pretty amusing how they played it at the press conference, with those in the sister companies A-Music & CMD showing up but not those signed directly with EA.

It looks like the 903 press conference is tomorrow and the Top 5 Male/Female/Group will be announced.

Sammi said that she will become active (career wise) in 2009 again. The movie with Eason is releasing in January and she will release a single.

Because I am sick of seeing the first two males and the first 3 females claim their respective titles. I understand if Khalil didn't win gold since he only releases Mandarin albums, as for Jay, similar situation - but that should be a wake up call to Hong Kong, since a non-native singer is able to make it to the top 5 best male singers -- SHAPE UP Hong Kong!

As for Hins, if he doesn't get gold this year, its a only a matter of time in the next upcoming years, when Leo and Eason have duked it out long enough.

If Kay doesn't win Best Female this year at one of the major awards, we should just ban CantoPop, since it's become too rigged anyways. I don't expect Kay to win gold at JSG given how EEG and TVB have this eternal PACT of working together.

The announced Top 5 is from FAN VOTING!!! For the "My Favorite Male/Female Singers" at 903. It's NOT the Top 5 for the male/female singer awards. I thought it was odd if it was the Top 5 for Jay to be in and not Juno, if we're looking at playrates.

It's pretty much set that Kay is going to get Gold at 903..and Hins is not getting Gold this year, not when Khalil & Juno have had a better year than he has, let alone Leo/Eason.

Definitely more of a possibility of the Leo vs. Eason rather than total # of awards, but I still don't see what's the complaint. I mean if it were any other station fine, but Metro is known to give out awards for Mandarin music and Eason had a pretty darn good year in Mandarin music. So whatever awards Eason "lost out" in the Cantonese category, he's gonna make up in the Mandarin category, especially considering the only non-HK artists that bother showing up at Metro didn't have a good year. So I don't see what Paco can complain about. There's probably something else behind it.


You know what would make it sting? If Sammi showed up (even if she isn't receiving awards) at all the ceremonies except RTHK. Then again, Sammi's long past playing the awards game. I'm not siding with Denise or anything, but I think EA actually has a better case to be mad at RTHK than Paco does at Metro.


Actually, Universal will decide when it's time for Hins to receive the "big" awards. If they think it's time for Hins, they will pull Eason from the awards.


Actually, even to my surprise, I Love You Boyz is actually pretty popular and rightfully so because they're hilarious. So I guess they chose to make fans happy cause EO2 isn't all that popular and Soler lost a lot of ground for not focusing on the HK industry.

The TVB8 awards is giving an indicator of how things might end up at the end of the year. Granted that TVB was being fair to everyone and Gold Label did not show up, the "indicators" are a little fuzzy, but here are my observations:
1. Linda > William for newcomer, so EEG relationship means nothing to TVB when their own people are involved
2. EEG may have a better relationship with TVB, but TVB is giving Universal equal "face"

Here's a pretty honest article (in Chinese) about this year's TVB8 awards. The article is written by a tabloid writer, so it's not professional, but it's pretty accurate on how TVB tried to make everyone happy and the awards ended up going to the "wrong" people.

My early and modified predictions:
903: I don't think Kay will win Gold cause she's in position to win "Album of the Year" & "Song of the Year," so Joey might win Gold.

TVB: with Andy Lau in the picture, TVB might give him "Asia's Favorite" and leave nothing for Hacken & Eason (if Leo is the winner of "Favorite Male") and that'll probably mean Kay will win "Gold Song"

And...Prudence Lau won "Best Female Actress" at this year's Golden Horse awards.

omggg i kinda just realized that this thread has been moved ROFLLLLL i have no time to comment on all the things i've missed cuz i'm just taking a break from studying for my exam tomorrow, but as expected from me there are some things i wanna point out in regards to CRHK (and Joey )

believe it or not it seems like there's a chance that Joey might win Female Singer Gold and perhaps even Best Album this year. Iunno if anyone noticed, but 愛怪物的你 is getting a (surprisingly) large amount of airplays (not saying its bad, but not a lot of third-plug karaoke songs gets support from CRHK). Perhaps CRHK is pushing for Joey to win Gold? Because many ppl feel that its unlikely CRHK will give the Female Singer Award, the Best Album Award, AND the Best Song Award to Kay (yes it has been done before, but Eason is a different story lol). And apparently one of the DJs, after watching Joey perform 愛怪物的你 live at the McDonalds concert, said that he suddenly started really liking the song, so perhaps he influenced all the other DJs into liking the song? Plus, in the last couple of months it seemed like Kay has finally "slowed" down, partly because of her lungs and partly because of a less successful 3rd plug. So iunno...even though before i said that Kay will most probably win CRHK Gold, i think there's a chance that Joey might win it now cuz Joey is really starting to catch up in terms of AP. And from a non-AP point i dont think it'll be totally unjust if Joey won considering the hype created this year by StarLight (which Kay said herself that she was so impressed she cried while watching the concert). Anyway, i'll be happy if either one wins

IMO, the article is totally off base...for one, they said that HotCha will get the group award and they're saying that Miriam is making a push for the Asia award.. Again I said serious doubts about this article. But I think the interesting predictions that they have is that..Charlene will be Asia Female Singer & Susanna will get Gold Song Gold & Myolie will get Female Newcomer Gold.

yeah i saw those predictions too, pretty stupid i would say. I definitely dont think Charlene will win the "Asia" award, and yeah there's no wayyyy Susanna will get Top Song no matter how TVB is biased towards their own ppl/song. But Myolie winning Gold isn't completely impossible. While GEM is owning this year, Myolie is currently Silver at CRHK, which is very impressive. Even Raymond with his high album sales wasn't able to break into CRHK's top 3. So if Raymond could win last year, i think Myolie can win Female Newcomer Gold this year.

as for Miriam making the push for the "Asia' award, dats kinda stupid too since she hasn't released any mando albums in a longggg time (though she did have a mando song in Wonder Miriam) and she didnt even win anything in TVB8 so i think her winning is rather unlikely. Next year will be interesting though, both Miriam and Joey are holding Shanghai concerts (Joey Dec 24, Miriam in 2009), both are releasing mando albums, and Joey will be in that CCTV series. It's been discussed before that every station has a different method for awarding singers. 903 is mostly based on airplays while TVB tends to look at popularity and status. In terms of those, Kay is not quite up there yet. So I don't think it will be unfair if Joey gets hk most popular female instead of Kay, which is more than likely to happen.

Waiiiiit a second, is Kay going to win Best Song for 鍾無艷 or for 囍帖街. I honestly don't see the big deal with 囍帖街, I tend to replay the first song over and over again whereas I would skip the second song.

I've been supporting that it should be new faces that get the big awards, rather then the usual six, and the past years its been good due to Justin&Janice's bronze, Hins&Kay's bronze... but this year totally let me down.

Hins plugged the wrong songs... then again it was probably all strategy to begin with, but I honestly liked UrbanEmotions more than his album last year. Hins wont get top 3 at all, he had such a bad year. Once Eason, Leo and Hacken all get one more award, I think it's going to be time to get a change of faces onstage.

Just watched the TVB8 Award Ceremony. I thought the awards were very fair and I'm glad that Khalil got some awards ! Kay Tse did a great job performing after her lung problem. Eason made me laugh so damn hard when he missed/forgot his lyrics and at the end when he went "off-key."

I doubt she will get a Top 10 this year, unless 甜蜜蜜 gets crazy plugged right now..which is unlikely.

Amazing...just 13 days after Bosco's debut EP..the SECOND version is going to be out Dec 18. Of course, complete with 3 MVs. Yeesh, East Asia wasting no time, eh? Speaking of East Asia, the EA concert is tomorrow. Rumor has it that both Sammi & Andy Hui are against singing their classic duet together. Charmaine Fong x 24 Herbs will sing 激光中.

903's been known to play some songs like crazy while not playing others, because they prefer certain artists and they know their playrates as well..so they can hold back an artist or push an artist towards the awards. Which is not to say the other stations are fair, which they are not as well...so yeah..

I'm guessing Andy Lau & Richie will appear in the second show since they didn't show up at the first show. Anyone watch the other "Ten Days of Christmas" vids from Denise? I found Joey's to be the cutest/hilarious! But it's amazing how Denise uses her status in the industry to get industry people to help her advertise the charity event!!

I agree, Kay's chances are JSG are very slim, considering that she hasn't even won a Gold song yet from JSG, it makes sense. I don't see Gold Song Gold for Kay though, not at JSG.

But Miriam answered about Asia Female in a very "yuen" way, essentially saying that she doesn't want it yet.

Kelly's relationship with TVB did get better, but I doubt that she would return to the awards scene. She seems past it all. On another hand, no top female singer this year has released a Mandarin album. But next year..you got Gigi, Kelly, Joey, and Miriam all expected to release Mandarin albums.

For 903, it might sound crazy but anyone else thinking that they're going to split the awards between the female singers. Like I'm seeing No.1 Song = Kay, Female Singer Gold = Joey, Best Album = Miriam, Favorite Female = Denise?! Right now Denise is not going to place into Top 3 OR get a Top 10 song award and I highly doubt that 903 will not give Denise an award.



There's nothing wrong with his or Vincy's songs, but personal preference, I prefered a few other songs to those. And considering those 2 songs weren't that popular & they're not TVB's sons and daughters & they're not top line singers & their respective record companies got a lot of other awards already, their songs probably were the ones that were up in air and the awards could have gone to other songs.

I think that would be a great result with each female singer getting something but then... I don't think 903 will give favorite female to Denise. Probably a top ten song for her. Either way I'm sure she won't mind not getting anything since it's 903 after all and her album was released late and will plug more songs next year.

Is the MV for 可歌可泣 still filmed by TVB Oo. Did they start airing the original MVs and stop making TVB versions already? Some how I'm glad Joey is getting more input for her songs because they seem to be talking more about herself.

yeah 可歌可泣 came out kinda sudden. But apparently it was made even before the release of In Motion but they didn't put it in the album because it wasn't produced by Carl and Joey wanted the whole album to be produced by Carl.

but yayyyy CY Kong, he hasn't written something for Joey in a longggg time. Perhaps for Joey's next album (which will coincide with Joey's 10 anniversary) they are planning to get a bunch of ppl that wrote songs for Joey in the past? that would be awesomeeee!!!! I miss those songs by Ronald Ng and Keith Chan!!!

當女飛俠愛上萬能俠 seems like a song that CRHK would like, but then again its already the 5th plug from Wonder Miriam, and usually CRHK doesn't give that much support to 4th, 5th, etc plugs.

and yeah 與蝶同眠 did get #1 at CRHK. But i think boa_fan was talking about how Wonder Miriam was the only album that has 3 #1s, and 與蝶同眠 was only In Motion's 2nd plug

For all the Toronto people out there...Hins and Fama (what a weird combination) are holding a concert at the Rogers Centre on Jan 24th (Sat).

And F.I.R will be coming on the 23rd.

Prices are cheap for a Toronto concert imo with the highest being $138. Tickets are on sale at ticketmaster.

themissingpiece: I'm even more surprised that HKers are complaining about the lan yum because most artists/people speak with an obvious lan yum and its so common now, which is super sad. I think they all did a good job singing it except William Chan, he just doesn't sound right in the song!

^ Unlike you, I only thought that some of them did well. Zac was pretty rigid while singing, Desmond was too high-pitched, I don't like Bosco's singing but he could get into the feel of the song. I think I might get stoned here but I quite like William's singing. Agreed with you that he sounded weird in the song. It was really funny to see RubberBand singing this kind of song My favorite has got to be Terry and Det. But where is Albert Chau??

Why does Hins sound much more stronger in this performance than the studio version?

Anybody think that Vivian Chow is really dumb for marrying Joe Neih? I mean, he's cheated on her... how many times?? For some reason, I think the wedding's "fake" in order to prove that Joe's changed.

Anyways, I am much loving Jaime's 大勇. It shows her strong vocals and that she can actually sing a up-beat song. I'd wish that her EP would have a ballad on it though.

The more I hear 可歌可泣, the more I like it! I think it looks to be a song that continues to be played into 2009, kind of like 赤地雪 (an underrated Joey song that I really like).

tvbaddict: I don't think it's lan yum more than the clear "foreign" accent that they probably dislike from Jin, because it does stand out in the song from Steph & Ben's accents. While it didn't bother me, Jin does need to work on the accent. Thanks for the link..but did like Charmaine's participation at least.

My favorite hands down was Terry. Strong vocals, got the flow of the song. Terry's in BMA, I hope he isn't a male version of Jade Kwan >.< Good singer but no publicity.

Worst to me is William. He sounded weird and then he added in the "yeah" and it just killed it. Strangely, I even thought Bosco was better than him. Perhaps, because Bosco's vocals seem to fit more with this type of song. Desmond was fine until suddenly his voice got so high. Det was ok. I don't think Zac sounded weak, it was ok..but he looked like he was caught by the camera and was lost.

Next week are the female newcomers: GEM, Rannes, Colleen, etc Can't wait to watch them. Wonder how it will turn out whether the guys or girls will turn out better. Wonder who will the female singer to lead them?

Vocalist at 1:55 and 2:25 is really nice. SQUARE harmonizing sounds pretty good in here. William Chan sounds very raw and awful and I would put him on "mute" if I know he's singing.

Wow, that was a great performance by Hins... been a while since I heard him sing.

Now, time to dissect the males. Honestly to me that was kinda really bad.

I'm going to assuming the last person to sing is Terry, and Det is the guy with the last name Det.

I found the best to be the last guy, who I am assuming to be Terry, a very good performance by him, shone in the group and ended the song better. Square, too surprised me, because I found their voices to blend together very well and I was blown away by their harmony, which surprised me because it wasn't bad like other groups when they sing. Very well done by Square.

Zac sounded so scared, his voice was tense, and that wasn't as great, nonetheless still a solid performance. Det was okay too, but is it just me or did I find him lacking 'air' to sing the song, it sounded like he was straining his voice to hit the notes... then again I'm not good at judging music...><

Desmond totally went high key and I screamed... AHHH WHAT WAS THAT >< sudden high pitch... Hands down the worst had to be William... his voice was plain bad, and his 'yeahhh' at the end totally killed the mood. I smacked my head and groaned. Ugh Willliam... pleaseplease just stick to dancing, your dancing is really hot...

Still Hins sounded so great in this JSG, which tempts me even MORE to go to his concert... UGHH HinHin...><

Can't wait for the females, IMO the females completely own the males. Can't even COMPETE whatsoever. It's like... totally different levels to me. =]

omgggg i LOVEEEE 赤地雪!!!! I really like 可歌可泣 cuz its like a fusion of Joey's past hits. The melody/mood is really sweet like 華麗邂逅 and 零時零分, meanwhile the arrangement during the chorus and the bridge has a bit of a pop-rock flavour like 赤地雪 or 告解. Finally, Joey's performance is reminds me of her classic k songs like 痛愛 or 爭氣. I think its definitely catchy enough to be a hit next year. Though it doesn't have the BEST melody in the world, the whole concept is really good. I hope the whole album would be like that, a reflection of Joey's past hits and a combination of a bunch of different genres that Joey has tried before. Normally i like it when Joey experiments with new stuff (which has been doing in the last few years) but for an album that will be released during her 10th anniversary, this would definitely be a treat for all her long-time fans <--this is just my fantasy of what i'm hoping for in her next album

speaking of Joey/Miriam/and plugs, Joey has now officially surpassed Kay in terms of AP and is only 4 ap away from the Best Album award. Considering how Kay's song hasn't even been played once, while Joey has had consistent airplays in the past few days, i think its HIGHLY likely that In Motion will have the most airplays by the end of this week. The question is, whether or not CRHK will follow these results, especially since they're soooo closeeeee and all 3 albums seem to be ok popular.
