Here is the CD version of Kay's newest plug. Is it 祝英臺 or 祝英台?? I agree with whoever that said Kay has a thing for historical characters, which is very interesting indeed. I believe this is partly why Kay has gained her fame, through her songs and not as much through her voice.

Random note. Alex Fong's 月全蝕 sounds pretty okay on the CD version, though his voice is still really weak. Why is Alex so dead in the entertainment circle, he has a decent company, good image... ugh work harder Alex.

I have really grown to like Jaime Fong, almost more than how much I like GEM Tang. I really hope to see Jaime survive and see how things go for her. Even with the subpar performance with Bosco (subpar... bah it was ear-killing), I still like the 3 songs that Jaime have.

OMG I just realized that lyricist 夏至 was Mini's pen name!

Jade & Edwin's old performance of 從不喜歡孤單一個 (worked SO much more than Jade x Raymond). Is it just me or did Jade not go as high in her recent performance and it felt that she did hold back in her performance? And Edwin > Raymond for 從不喜歡孤單一個. Raymond (while good) was too soft in the song and probably why it didn't match with Jade's voice.

If there was more promotion for "Song.Eulogy", I'm pretty sure that it will be a great competition for Kay's song. I just love the meaning of "Song.Eulogy" more than "Wedding Invitation Street".

Wow quite a few surprises with RTHK...especially with the Top 10 with the exclusion of Eason and Hacken. It's a bit humorous that RTHK rewards Wong Cho Lam but JSG does not. Interesting. And urgh seriously..Joey gets Gold Song for 陪我長大 (prefer the other two contending Joey songs 100x more)?!??!?! ...And William over G.E.M is just.. seriously? And poor Leo, they just couldn't give 最優秀流行男歌手 to Leo?!

Clesias: Kay's song did win 4 Stations Best Song but that was presented at the other award ceremonies. The 4 Stations Media Award is handed out at RTHK and she won that.

Miriam sang 再見二丁目 to honor Lin Xi. Jacky is an awesome surprise, but you would think they would try to get Faye instead.

^yeah Joey's done much better in the past!!! but i think it was extra hard cuz it was outdoors, and apparently its really hard to hear yourself sing when you're outdoors/in LARGE stadium venues. it wasn't bad though with the exception of Solemn on Stage, and the sound quality wasn't that good, i'll have to wait for the video to really judge aha.

but wow nice rundown!!! so surprised she sang 煞科 since it was so recent (2000 right?)!!!! but its a good song!!! and i LOVEEEE the arrangement!!! i love the samples from her StarLight Power Medley, and i LOVEEE the arrangement for 夢中人!!!!

^yeah both Joey and Eason (last year) didn't perform as well as they normally do. I think its also cuz they didn't give them a lot of time for rehearsals, cuz when Joey did StarLight she had several months to prepare for it, but she probably only had like a week. Plus it was probably really cold And i think RTHK chose the songs. As you said, very interesting choice of songs, but it flowed pretty smoothly

ok now to comment on RTHK. Yeah, the results were pretty....errrr....unexpected. Normally RTHK is a good reflection of the year's most hit songs but this year they seem a bit off. Again, TREADMILL + BUTTERFLY > GROW UP WITH ME!!!! I'm also surprised that FAMA won for 全民皆估, and that Raymond and Jason were able to get top 10s. Even though they're good songs, i didn't expect them to win over Eason and Hacken.

The Lam Jik medley DOES look amazing though!!!!! and WOW, Jacky actually attended!!!!! it shows the amount of respect Lam Jik has in the industry!!!! He definitely deserved the award though as themissingpiece said, i'm a bit surprised that 就算世界無童話 was included cuz all the songs that were performed are classic hits famous for their lyrics. Not toooo surprised that Miriam sang 再見二丁目 though. I remember back in her Million Purple Thousand Red concert she said that she was really moved by the lyrics cuz the chorus of the song talks about how "learning to live life happily is not an easy task".

and yeah, TOTALLY didn't expect William to win over G.E.M. And i'm also very surprised that Eason won over Leo this year! Eason's my favourite male singer, but this year was supposed to be Leo's year!!!

I'm not quite as in tune with the HK music scene, so could someone explain to me the reasoning for honoring Lam Jik (Lin Xi)? I did see his name on the results page, but my chinese is limited, so was that the reason for the tribute medley?

^ Lin Xi/Lam Jik won the "Golden Needle Award" which is a REALLY prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. He's one of the most accomplished/respected lyricist in the HK music industry and has written the lyrics for over a hundred Cantopop hits.

RTHK's results aren't very fair this year. Side note: glad Joey got to sing 與蝶同眠 for [Nation's best Female Singer] Though I wish she won gold song for 愛怪物的你 or 與蝶同眠 =/ I don't like Raymond so not quite happy about him getting top10 at RTHK. EEG sure did pretty well at RTHK.

William > G.E.M. is certainly a . I was certain that G.E.M. would've pocketed RTHK's Gold Newcomer for sure. How ironic that G.E.M. pulled past the challenge of running against TVB artistes at JSG, but she met her road block at RTHK. So much for RTHK always awarding to those who are deserving, as mentioned a few pages back, huh?

I am extremely happy that Kary didn't go home empty-handed at this awards ceremony! Although, I would 100% prefered it to be for 最後一秒鐘, which is of much higher quality, than 分手要狠.

Reportedly, East Asia singers, such as Ivana/Andy Hui/Wilfred, were no-shows at RTHK because they are in "defense and support" of Denise. It's such a shame that Ivana didn't go; it's her first time getting into 十優, but she wasn't even present at the event. She probably would've gotten the CASH singer-writer award if she went, and even possibly a Top 10 because judging from the chart results posted earlier, RTHK seems supportive of her.

top 10 sonngs are not only based from the the charts....its based on voting as well..and i think eeg and tvb fans rigged it this year....and maybe other years as well (esp in favor of joey)...but joey and janice are the pretty clear artists that rthk likes more than others....
or it just may be be that they are the most popular artists.....along with eason

the top 10 songs were alright....i mean rthk didn't give the awards based strictly on the artist's popularity/status [which i liked] (hacken and eason....although both have had decent hits this year). they gave the awards to the most popular songs based on their method of choosing (i think after the show, some of the djs explained the complex formula)...

the only big unfair part was giving cho lam and linda awards....i do not even remember hearing a plug from either of them on the station...maybe they had at most 1 obscure song each...but the awards handed to them probably were based on voting....and the same with william>gem... it seems that they stayed true to their formula for choosing awards...even though we may think someone or some songs shoulda won over others, having "less popular songs" even from "less popular artists" shows that they are sticking to their formulas....or getting tipped by eeg

Not sure about you guys but I'm glad to see Edmond sing at RTHK for Lin Xi medley! He hasn't got much popularity and his songs haven't been that great these few years. Nice to see him get some exposure. Happy to see Janice there as well her new song "If world doesn't have fairy tale" really grew on me. I hope it can maintain it's popularity, Lam Jik's lyrics really helps calm our souls in such a chaotic year.

Okay, first positive thing, Kary gets a top10 which is fantastic because I would have been heartbroken if she completely was denied anything, and her winning was definately great, regardless of either songs.

But ONE positive thing is not equivalent to many bad things.

Raymond/Jason's win for Top10 song was surprising, I would have thought they give an award to Ivana or Juno, who both had quite a strong year. But Raymond!?!! Jason's I Miss You was a great listen, but it's a bit 'OMG' for me.

陪我長大 was the wrong song for Joey to win, I mean all her other plugs were better in song quality for me.

EO2 winning Improvement award was the worse for me. Out of everyone listed, I think they deserved it the least. Ivana went home with nothing, and I definately feel that she had an awesome year of composing. Juno too, really stood out this year, Kay/Khalil's success doesn't have to be mentioned. Wow...

I'm surprised Eason out sold Hins, I thought Hins had a really good year though... well whatever, there were rumours that Eason/Joey were going to be the big winners of RTHK.

Okay, Linda, Myolie, Cho Lam... NO NO NO. Okay, it should have seriously been Jaime, Cherry, Mr or anyone else. I don't even remember Linda charting songs. Cho Lam can sing, but still I think Jaime/Cherry/Fiona needed that boost moreso than the TVB trio.

謝安琪's win wasn't a surprise.

5. I Miss You - 陳柏宇 } My heart literally stopped when I saw it was Jason, lol! Well deserved ! RTHK really supports him...

6. 全民皆估 - 農夫 } I thought that there were better deserved artistes *cough*Eason/Hacken*cough*.

7. 櫻花樹下 - 張敬軒 } RTHK couldn't possibly not give him one (same with TVB). As I mentioned before, I am not a Hins fan. But I am happy for him...

8. 愛不疚 - 林峯 } I thought that there were better deserved artistes *cough*Eason/Hacken*cough*.

9. 分手要狠 - 吳雨霏 } Would have been happier if 最後一秒鐘 got in. It was a more memorable song!

As for the newcomers, William?? G.E.M clearly had the upper hand with play rates & I don't recall William getting in to top 3 in chart positions. EEG clearly twigged it. Linda, and Myolie didn't even chart their songs?? WTF!

As much as I am a Vincy fan, 喜歡一個人好累 could not have won over "Love Song," or Fiona's 我不需要TIFFANY.

Overall, none of the award shows are "fair" anymore. Especially this year for RTHK, I had high hopes that they were going to be fair...

But, I am very much looking forward to see Lin Xi's big tribute and yes, 就算世界無童話 is clearly going to be a front-runner this year.

I don't mind Wong Cho Lam getting a newcomer award either because like you said, he can actually sing, and for all his EEG/TVB relations, he should've substituted either William or Bosco at the JSG awards.

Who knows? Maybe EEG had to pull some strings because they definitely faced some kind of cut back on the total awards they'll be receiving, due to Twins being out of the race, and Twins and Joey were basically EEG's award magnets all along.

On another note, how sad is it that at an HK awards ceremony, the best selling group and the nation-wide best group awards were taken by groups from Taiwan? I expected S.H.E to receive that nation-wide best group award since no other HK group (or singer, even), besides Twins, has been able to break into the Mainland/Taiwan market, hence Twins being the only HK group present in the finalists, but they couldn't possibly have won due to their long absence. However, not even Fama, after gaining so much popularity in the past two years in HK, could outsell a Taiwan group in HK? (Then again, how the heck did Fahrenheit outsell S.H.E? )

hmm didn't Faye and Lin Xi get into an argument or something? If not, then yeah Faye definitely should've came and support Lin Xi since she's his favourite singer.

But yeah i've been reading all the reports on the RTHK awards, and indeed there's a lot of talk about how the RTHK winning songs were reallyy unexpected. On the bright side (at least for Joey fans), almost every newspaper said that Joey's fast song medley was really good, so perhaps it was just the radio version that sounded bad? and if we were to watch the video its much better? can't wait to watch the video clips!!!!

Anyway, how odd is it..that Joey wasn't included in the Lam Jik tribute (other than that would mean Joey appeared in too many segments.) I was going through the online comments..but some were saying it's cuz mosty Wyman wrote more hit songs for Joey than Lam Jik. But I've always felt for Joey, it was pretty even between Wyman and Lam Jik, or at least not as clear cut as say it is for Miriam and Denise.

Yeah netizens don't have a good response to RTHK results. Personally the only [out of the ordinary award that] I was really happy about was Pakho & Stephanie getting a Top 10 Gold Song.

Poor Bosco, he was the only TVB actor/singer to get shut out at RTHK, probably because he's in East Asia.

I definately don't mind Cho Lam getting awards because he can sing. But I think he seriously needs to change the songs he's singing. Otherwise, he's just a better sounding solo version of I Love You Boyz.

And..well how reliable are the RTHK best selling awards anyway? Not even based on IFPI..

Joey/Eason were sooooo closeeeee, and i didn't know that the top 3 were leading by thattttt much. Poor Leo only 6 i guess its cuz of Metro.

and yeah, i think the only reason why Joey was left out is because she would have appeared in too many segments. I mean she already did the night's big closing performance, it would definitely be too much to include her in this performance. But i agree, Joey's hits have split pretty evenly between Lam Jik and Wyman. While it does seem like Joey on a personal level knows Wyman more (possibly cuz of Denise aha) Lam Jik has written manyyy hits for Joey as well.

o and i'm also really curious about the sales thing as well. I mean, it IS possible for there to be 2 different methods to calculate sales, its like that around the world, e.g. in Japan Oricon and RIAJ's calculations are a bit different. But then again, both Oricon AND RIAJ are respected in the industry for calculating sales, but in HK, IFPI is the only institution that really does the whole sales counting thing.

That's not true... Myolie's 單身旅行 was on the chart for 5 weeks, reaching 2nd place in its peak.

And I'm pretty sure I saw Linda's Two Person's World on the chart at some point in time, but not sure about the positions.

True, so I guess it comes to show that getting good reviews and online support doesn't equal out to the best sales. I thought that Fama could've pull in better sales since they've been starting a new trend of music, quite successfully too, at least they are being accepted in the narrow genres of music in HK.

Nothing "wrong", but when one is looking for a high quality album where hardly any track is skipped, I'm sure many would go for S.H.E > Fahrenheit, but I suppose the same principle that I just said above applies to this too. Fahrenheit is quite the bomb in HK nowadays.
