Adam explained all the rumors and Joyce was able to show her mature side. Now the question is

Was that "Big Brother" immature enough to criticizes Adam in public?
Was Adam speech prepared?
There was a part in Adam speech where he asked Joyce, "should I say it"?, was that prepared?
Was Joyce mature response prepared?

I may be very critical but after the scandal, I think everything is possible in the HK industry.

I personally wasn't surprise at Dang Kwong Wing's fierce speech on Adam Cheng. It wasn't really the first time he pubically put him down. The first time he was asked about Adam was, I believe, on the first dayand Big brother was really mad and said "Who? I don't know this person".

I think Adam was smart for dragging Joyce up and made her answer his questions...it kinda made me feel as if it was a court or something. I didn't like how he kept asking her "Is this right?" and all that. It made the whole deal extremely awkward and Joyce was really pressured.

I really thought Andy Lau would be there too, maybe not as a performer, but as one of the guests that showed up.. but surprisingly he wasn't there.

Talking about the Joyce & Ron, there was a whole news on just "Ron shaking Joyce's hand" during yesterdays event which I find totally absurd and stupid. Imagine her acting in a series with Ron or something... gosh.

Yeah, Tang has always been a fierce critic of Adam, but you would think he would realize where he was at the time. I understand his anger, but it's just not the right place to do it, and as someone so close to Lydia, you would have thought that he would realize she would NOT want this.

As for Adam dragging up Joyce, it was supposedly Lau Ka Cheung's idea/suggestion. But I also did not like that Adam keep pausing and asking Joyce when he was up there. I mean, what is she going to do up there, say NO, you're wrong?

Have you guys heard it, it turns out that Vincy has covered Kevin's "The Seventh Day" theme. It's a curious move by TVB/EEG, not quite sure why they are having someone do a cover of it. But back to the song and its cover, for me, not sure which I prefer. I think Vincy's cover gives a different feel to the song. But I think Vincy uses a larger range in singing the song, while Kevin has a rather narrow range. Any thoughts?

Reading all the posts about what happened at the memorial show was really confusing since I didn't see it but I do think that Joyce shouldn't be too fast in entering the industry. If not, people will criticize that she is just continuing to live under the 'help' of her mother and friends. I understand that she is just doing it to fulfill her mother's wish but not many people will understand. As it is already, lot's of people hate her (something which I don't understand). Maybe they are just thinking that she is a spoilt brat, having her way all the time and living such a comfortable life. I felt that she has already done the best that she can in preparing her mum's funeral and yet there are people criticizing that she has the mood to go to her blog and post messages on her blog. Have you guys heard Kary Ng's Lady K live concert cd? I'm actually really impressed at her live singing. I've seen her sing live on tv before but it's different when you listen without anything/anybody to look at because there are no distractions and you can just focus on the music itself and I'm enjoying it so far.

Thanks for the 最美麗的第七天 with Vincy. I was trying to find it last week but I couldn't. I personally feel that Kevin's version gives a more relaxing feel, which is probably the main purpose of the song. There is actually rap in HK besides Fama and Hanjin, maybe not really as mainstream as them but for example, 24 Herbs (former LMF members, Conroy Chan etc) is a rap group as well who recently released their debut album. I also know MC Yan is doing something with his crew called
Fu©Kin Music.

Jan's concerts (or shows) have been over for a while now, but I wanted to mention that Jan performed many well-known hits from the past couple of years with changed lyrics, which are always hilarious. HK is doing something and I don't know what it is, but they're cracking down on the youtube sharing of concert clips (and I'm sure of other things also), so a lot of the clips showing Jan performing these songs are already deleted, but if you look (or even elsewhere) you might be able to find some. Some of the songs Jan changed lyrics for are:

I heard they are adding more shows for Jan's show because it was so successful, but Jan said he is kinda worried because if it's gonna be too soon, then he'll have to think of totally new jokes and songs which is really stressful. Actually I thought the song was supposed to be more sad and not relaxing, to fit in with the theme of the series. Yeah, definately, Vincy puts more singing "method" into it. Actually now that I've heard Vincy version a few times, I think I like her's more, but I don't like the "whispering" in the beginning.

Rumor has it that they got Vincy to sing it, because Ms. Fong (wife of Run Run Shaw) - who runs TVB now - dislikes Kevin singing and purposefully got Vincy to sing it. And Kevin didn't directly answer the question when they asked him about it.

Thanks for the video, themissingpiece! They look so restrained and some parts someone went out of tune. Nervousness? Mandy was barely audible and was very rocky at the start of her solo but she recovered at the end. Cathy had the best vocals since she had such stable vocals throughout her solo but her expression was just constipated. Again due to nervousness. And the parts where they sang together, they didn't harmonise very well.

About Vincy's cover of 最美麗的第七天, I don't really like it. Perhaps the fact that I have gotten to used to Kevin's more soothing vocals but I feel that Vincy's high notes gives a much more sad and tragic feeling to the song.

I wonder if there'd be clips of Khalil Starhall concert. OMG I just saw the preview from Moov website and he was dancing and singing to 春風吹. I hope they'd release a DVD soon. The part where he was arguing with Fiona was funny haha wow first time seeing him raise his voice haha. He should so dance more for his songs especially since he can dance so well and imitate Michael Jackson.

This article says that Joyce will be singing 2 TVB songs this year - 1 for 珠光寶氣 (Jewel's Splendor - ?) which I hear is 2008's TVB big production series and 1 for 甜言蜜語. It's unknown if the songs are going to be theme songs or an "insert" song. Also, Ms. Lok (exec from TVB) says that from her perspective, Joyce should MC and sing.

^ I really hope it is NOT theme for Jewel's Splendor. Joyce is still a new singer and doesn't have the "status" to be singing a grand production like Jewel's Splendor's theme! Seriously, I was hoping for someone "big" and I remember there was a discussion in another thread about who should sing "Jewel's Splendor" theme. I really believe that Kelly would be the perfect choice to sing Jewel's Splendor theme. ^ I agree. I hope Joyce doesn't get the opportunity for the themesong cause that's just way too much. Honestly, I think there are only 2 ways Joyce's career can go. Either it's short lived or it's long but never reaching a high. There aren't many children of established actors or singers who make it in the HK industry and Joyce probably won't be an exception. I think Joyce will sign under TVB and they'll also manage her singing career, but I think it's the wrong choice. Joyce should become a singer and forget all the acting and hosting stuff. She should find an independent manager and sign to a record label and not have her career be managed by TVB. Its not saying that she will be successful this way, but at the very least, when she gets some acknowledgment for her work people can't say TVB gave her the chance.

Not Just A Pretty Face Theme with Roger Kwok.

It might be good promo for Joyce to sing Jewel's Splendor. But by the time it airs, the "spike" in support after Lydia's death will have worn off, and there might be backlash at that point for giving such a high profile series to such a new singer. BUT please NO MORE Hacken themesongs, it's getting old..he's like their default guy for the "big" series.

I thought Joyce was signed already to an outside manager. Because I read in a news article and reporters were asking her manager questions as to why after Adam & Joyce went onstage, Joyce didn't sit next to him anymore. If she's releasing an album, is she signed to a big label? Or is it just Lau Ka Cheung funding it? Considering the # of female singers now with every big label, it's hard to imagine a big company signging her..

If history is any indication, it's true, Joyce's future in the circle does not look good. Nicholas was probably the biggest success. But then again, Stephen Fung is another success story..

Hmm, the top line female singers are finally starting to plug songs. I wouldn't really count Joey's "Lucky Star," that was more of to pump up concert. And well Kelly did plug 1 song. But back to the song, another Hocc slow song! I like it a lot but I don't think it's on the level of awesomeness as 木紋.

Kary Ng 分手要狠:
I really anticipated the song when I heard part of it during the promo for the Alex/Stephy film. But somehow, the full version is kind of disappointing?? I think it's mainly the beginning of the song that I don't like. I think I only like the chorus...

Sherman Chung "I Don't Care":
Wow, I feel like the HK new releases these few months have been dominated by fast songs surprisingly and not ballads songs, with Eunix, Kary, Kelly, Yumiko plugging fast songs. Add in Sherman again now. It's ok, catchy..but I think I'm still more of a slow song fan of Sherman's...! out of all the fast songs this year, still love Eunix's the best.

A little OT, but since themissingpiece brought up Kary's theme. What is up with Paco/Gold Label's OD on the Stephy/Alex combo? I know its all about the business and making money, but it's just overkill.

As for Joyce's manager, were they talking about Florence or someone else. I've read articles where they refer to Florence as her manager, but I thought she was a friend of Lydia's and Joyce's auntie and she was just there to help Joyce with Lydia's stuff. Who knows, maybe she does have a manager.

As for the Jewel theme. I agree, if its all about elegance Kelly should sing the theme. I still see it being possible, but not likely. I would see Hacken as the second option but as everyone says this series is more of a female dominant series, so Hacken singing it would be off. Third option would be a TVB actor singing. My choice for 2nd option is Miriam. If we're choosing Kelly based on elegance then Miriam is the 2nd most elegant/mature/healthy imaged active female singer. I could totally see either Kelly singing the theme or one of the actresses.

So I finally listened to 我的最愛 and I didn't like it, it's my least favourite Alex duet in general.

Interesting to see the Leo is trying to break into the Mandarin market using the same technique he "broke back" into the HK market. "Jade Solid Gold 2" with all Mandarin songs. I'm wondering if it'll work, it sort of did for Anson Hu but then again Anson was already really well off and acknowledged before "Men's KTV."

This is supposedly Alex/Stephy's last collaboration for film, and I guess subsequently duet. Considering the amount of money that their movies made, it's inevitable that Paco would push them to work together again. I do love them together but I do think that it wouldn't kill them to work with other ppl. But then again, they are one of the "few" very sucessful monetary pairings.

And on the Leo mando medley, wow, I don't like reusing the idea..it's boring. Guess Paco isn't very creative, eh? Speaking of Gold Label, them and Metro's relationship is "better" now. Paco sent Stephy and Justin to some Metro event..

I agree that 2nd option with Miriam would be good as well, which represents maturity and works well with the female theme of the series. Also, there was "history" before with Miriam's theme for the also very female oriented "La Femme Desperado" working very well. But actually I think Sammi would work as 2nd option as well. One, it would be "big news" if TVB was able to get Sammi to sing "Jewel's Splendor" themesong, boosting up Jewel's profile.

As for the actresses, it's possible considering it's TVB. But looking at the lead actresses, it looks unlikely with Ada, Maggie, and Gigi, though Gigi was singer before. But TVB certainly hasn't given Gigi a lot of songs to sing, unlike Charmaine, Myolie, etc. Or Linda..but the backlash would start once it is announced, and it wouldn't be enough "class" since she only appears in a portion of the series. Gah I really hope it's NOT Moses or Bowie or Bosco.Moses is the WORST singer in TVB.

For Jewel's Splendor I thought Kelly's new song would kinda fit it since the lyrics is about glamorous. The idea of Jewelery fits Kelly alot since she does many commercials for them. But then his relationship with TVB has most likely gone bad.

I really hope that Joyce is not singing the theme song of "Jewel's Splendor". Everyone has been looking forward for this show for such a long time that it will seen such a spoiler to let some newcomer sing the theme song! Kelly definitely should sing the theme song and it will probably bring back something for her singing career since she hasn't been that popular these few years. If not there is also Susanna Kwan but it might be weird considering she is in HOG2. But a female SINGER should sing the theme song, not male and not a TVB actress singing.

I don't like Leo's Mandrain medley. I don't think Taiwanese fans will appreciate it too unlike in HK when his Cantonese medley came out. Also he sounds so much better in Cantonese than in Mandrain.

I don't think TVB ever intended to promote Myolie as a "singer" though? I remember back when Lady in Red came out, TVB did mention that they'll help Myo release an album, but that was only after she got praised by Mark Lui and Justin Lo. I think Bernice was more recognized as a singer back then, and TVB is willing to push her forward in terms of singing. But personally, I don't think Myo is ready to become a "singer" yet.

I also think Linda Chung will be the next actor-turn-singer. If TVB is going to promote someone, it will be her. Heard that she's already in talks with a record company?

It seems like Kelly is at that point in the career where she has essentially reached her "peak" in the music career and is making the transition to movies to prolong the career (a la Sammi).

And I definately agree with everyone, Kelly is the perfect match for the series themesong. She has the image that matches with the series and the status for such a grand series, not to mention her dad works in the jewelry business. Yes, even if Kelly can't do it, it really SHOULD be a female singer..(Sammi or Miriam). As for Susanna, great singer, no doubt..but for some reason, I think that the age makes a difference. Like it worked for HOG, because it's a more big family orientated series. But for JS, it's a bit more chic..



True, TVB didn't intend to promote Myo as a singer, but from "Lady in Red" she sort just stood out with her singing and the praise helped. TVB definately tried to push Bernice. I'm a fan of Bernice as well, but I will say that Myolie is definately the best female singer at TVB (like not counting Susanna).

But I disagree, I think Myo is READY to be a singer. Her live performances are very steady, even better than some current singers. I think the duet with Vincent helped to up her profile as a "singer"

The only show she sang a sub-theme song was "Threshold Of An Era" and the song only appeared two times in the show? As for Joey, we are forgetting 這分鐘更愛你 (I LOVE this song..and I think Joey really likes it as well..she sings it at every concert) as a sub for Green Hope (what a GREAT series) as well. It is odd that Joey doesn't sing a themesong other than for series that she's in..even Gillian & Kenny did a duet for The Legend of Love.

tvbaddict, got around to listening to Kary's Lady K live. and i was IMPRESSED. Even though I am a fan of her..I will admit some of her live singing is not up to par (much like Janice). BUT in Lady K, Kary's live singing was truly very very good. She even handled 逼得太緊 better than I've heard her do it live. I can see why there was even more backlash against Stephy after Kary's concert. She did some Mandarin songs..and did a good job covering Sandy Lam's 南方的風!

Sammi would also be a good choice to sing the Jewel Splendor also, but let's face it, Sammi's "relationship" with TVB is non-existant. When was the last time Sammi sang a theme for TVB series that didn't have the name "Armed Reaction" stuck to it? All I can remember is 1999 Man's Best Friend and she starred in it. If we want to hear Sammi sing another TVB theme, it'll have to be for Armed Reaction V. There was a glimse of hope when Esther returned, but now it's down the pot hole because of the Joyce-Marco deal.

As for Joey not singing a theme. If you've noticed, a lot of the "top-tiered" singers sing one theme a year and that's sort of their repayment for the contract. But Joey doesn't need to fulfill that portion because she does all the other shows. She is at almost EVERYTHING that has guest singers. I was actually quite surprised she wasn't at Tung Wah last year. I was asking myself if I missed something.


I don't get this "theory." I'm not saying that Kay has a chance, but why would she automatically not have a chance just because she has one not-so-popular song at the beginning of the year? I'm actually glad that Universal plugged that particular song even though they know it's not going to be popular. I think people are forgetting who helps produce her albums...the same person that "found" Christopher Chak and the same person that probably has a lot of other good demos under his belt and just waiting for the right time to use them. So it's okay to say that she won't have a chance with her particular style, but it's another story to say she won't have a chance at all considering she released a more popular song last year.

People are forgetting that this is the beginning of the year, which is a different ballgame. You may see Stephanie leading and EO2 on top, but that will probably not be the case come late 2008. The sort of "get them out of the way" singers release their stuff now and promote their stuff now because companies have the time now. Deep Ng might have released an album, but if there isn't a catchy tune on that album, don't expect to hear from him at the end of the year. Think Jade Kwan, the same "beginning of the year - get them out of the way" ordeal happens to her every year.

it would be awesome if Joey could sing the themesong for JS. Even though Kelly is more fitting for the series since she has more of an elegant/classy/mature style while Joey is younger/more hip, Joey DID tie the record for having the most "Most Popular Female" wins, so its about time Joey sang the theme song for a big production series...

well actually, Joey's 逃避你 was a sub-theme for At the Threshold of an Era, which is arguably TVB's biggest production in the last decade. But then it wasn't the main theme though, so it would be nice if Joey sang the theme to SL.

but yeah, i also agree with you guys that it would nice if Kelly, Miriam, or Sammi sang it (well, Sammi is kinda like Joey in that she never really had the "classy/elegant" image unlike Kelly, but more of the modern/energetic/hip image. But since she has been in the business for so long (6 years longer than even Kelly) and is one of HK's most iconic pop queens, she automatically qualifies in terms of maturity/classiness). Imagine how awesome it would be if Faye suddenly came back to sing the theme song! Even though her image doesn't fit SL as much as Kelly, that would be AWESOME!!! i highly doubt it though haha just dreaming...

Yeah but having themesongs for ALL of a series that had 3 sequels is pretty darn good. AR is considered somewhat of a golden franchise. I think only Edmond has that distinction with the DIF series. The other "classic" franches had only instrumentals, HH and FOJ. But out of Sammi, Kelly, Miriam, definately Miriam has the higher chance of getting it.



I think the theory makes sense. Because the thing is..this is the only time of year to pad your playrates in order to have a chance at "catching" Joey. Since she is away at this time and not plugging..you need to have hits at this time to come close. Which is why they are saying Kay's 2nd plug had to be hit as well. Because this is the perfect timing, not only because Joey comes back in the middle of the year..but because all the other top tiered singers will start plugging as well later: Miriam, Denise (who actually is starting). This is the right time without much competition to add to your rates.



True, but I was still surprised Stephanie was there instead of like Kary or Janice. Since those 2 as well as Fiona (though Mandarin) have songs about the same time, I thought it was striking that Stephanie was in Top 5 instead of those other 3, which have more CRHK support.

On a side note: Fiona's China series (a remake of C'est Le Vie, Mon Cheri - Anita Yuen and Sean Lau) is airing on TVB HD Channel. It's refreshing to see that TVB buy the rights to this, because Fiona isn't be dubbed. Usually ATV buy these series with HK Singers and becaues of their contracts with TVB, their real voices aren't used..ie Gillian in Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain.

hmmm not necessarily. i think she sings it because it's a classic. i mean she sings my pride, painful love, and dull heart at every concert, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she likes those songs lol

Ohhh...I love 這分鐘更愛你 too! I don't think any of her songs ever have the same impact that this song does. It is really very unique. I agree that Miriam Yeung was really fitting to sing LFD theme song, in fact TFL which was also focused on women was also sung by Miriam. I guess because she gives a more down-to-earth feel than most other top female singers which is what (I feel) both series seems to be giving because they are focused on common things that women goes through everyday. Maybe Joey should sing the theme songs of series that are more youthful? Since she gives a feeling of energetic and always hopping around...

Singing theme songs is like repaying TVB? I always thought that singing more theme songs can actually help with their career.

I can't say for sure that it's repayment, but I'm pretty sure, otherwise why would these singers only sing one per year? Nowadays, they don't even release these themes on their albums and most of the songs are written by TVB composers/lyricists.

The one thing I'm surprised about is that Denise hasn't performed a TVB theme or sub-theme or anything. And she appeared in a series herself.

On another note, why has EEG been doing so many cover songs. Especially by Vincy and Joey. All in all, I find it strange because EEG use to be this company that never worked with other companies and never performed songs that belonged to other singers, but once they changed that rule they just went nuts with it. Another thing is that I feel they made some wrong choices of songs, especially those that are recent popular songs or just popular-popular songs.

^actually, Joey has had a LOT of cover songs ever since the day she came out. 未知, 這分鐘更愛尓, and 扮了解 were all cover songs from her first EP back in 1999 (and the EP only had 5 song, which meant that more than half were cover songs). Other cover songs include Goodbye, 相當刺激 and 最好時光, Mad About You, 小天使, 舊日回憶的山丘, 好事多為, 愛情復興 and the list goes on... so it's not really 'recent' trend since they have been doing this ever since Fitto first became EEG.

i think Joey sings 這分鐘更愛你 because there are pauses in the middle where the audience could scream haha cuz for Solemn on Stage (her 2001 concert), Reflections, and StarLight, 這分鐘更愛你 was the first slow song that she sings. So i think its there to help build up the atmosphere. But i'm sure she likes the song herself though and yeah its a really unique ballad...its a cover of a French Celine Dion song, and unlike most of her English works her French stuff is a little bit more alternative.

^ Did I term it wrong? I meant singing existent songs, not covers of songs in other languages. You know how like Vincy had this whole "special" disc that was filled with songs she sang that belong to others. Love Joey 4 where she sang songs that belong to others.
