More news:

Miriam responds for the first time on the contract issue with TVB (credit MingPao):

- She said that her contracts are taken care by her company and Peter Lam. And it's not the first year that she hasn't gotten award. The matter is still in the hands of her company, and "it doesn't matter" to her if she signs or not.

- When asked if she would go to JSG Year End Awards, she said that even if she didn't have an award, she would still go to support Hong Kong singers.

- When asked if by not re-newing, was she following in the footsteps of Sammi and Kelly in "rising another level," she said that the two were already "chin bui"

- She will continue to participate in all the "big" TVB events. She is participating in the upcoming "Po Leung Kuk" charity show. so does it even matter that she's not re-newing. seems like a smart move then on EA part. She's stilll participating to keep the relationship good but isn't restricted anymore.

Speaking of Peter Lam, he must have been one happy man at HKFA. His movie gathered Best Film, Director, Actor. Andy Lau got Best Supporting Actor. Sammi was host, making it the first time it was an all female hosting team. Denise performed and Miriam presented..
blablablah
^its good to hear that Miriam will still perform on these functions and still go to the year end awards biggrin.gif this is something i really respect about Miriam. in the last few years she has received so many awards, yet she goes to every single one. Good Job Miriam!!!

and Kelly isn't a chin bui, she debuted just one year before Miriam haha.
aznvi3tgurl06
does anybody know, if twins ever won the Media award, and if they did what year was it.
blablablah
^Twins tied with Joey in 2003 for the media award.
themissingpiece
^ The media award is given at the last music award ceremony and that usually is RTHK.

NEW Janice song 主角愛我

What a surprise...Mark Lui AGAIN dry.gif . Leon needs to switch it up for Janice. I like the song, I think it's my favorite so far from her new album. But it's nothing special and though I love Janice's voice, it is getting boring for her to sing songs that are hard to differentiate from one another. Janice said that her new album should be released late June/early July. Considering they like released half the album already...why still the delay? Are they trying to rack up airplays for the album..but it's not going to work when 3 of the 4 songs are so similar!

boa_fan929
I've already forgotten how her other plugs sound. But yeah, another typical Janice/Mark Lui song.

Next.
themissingpiece
^ haha next? how about the 2nd Mandarin plug from Fiona? Looks like Fiona once again scores with her latest Mandarin plug.

Fiona Sit - 我不需要Tiffany (Composed by Khalil)

I personally LOVE the song. The lyrics, music are nicely written (it's the same combination as the composer/lyricist as 糖不甩. Surprisingly it doesn't sound like a Khalil composition! Fiona sings it with the appropriate emotions. Many are saying that if the song was Cantonese, it would be a K hit already...It definately is easier to "accept" than her first Mandarin plug, "Alice's First Time." Surprisingly, Warner is plugging different songs in the two markets (HK, Taiwan). 我不需要Tiffany is not being plugged in Taiwan, they are plugging "It's My Day" instead..
blablablah
to be honest i'm a bit surprised by how confident Warner is about Fiona considering how she was gone for so long, it would have been safe to throw out an EP or a new album before signing such a long expensive contract, but then again i guess they didn't have enough time cuz her contract was ending. but she has nice songs and a sweet voice, and plus her compilation sold pretty well so i guess its worth taking that risk.

and yeah the song is really nice biggrin.gif its pretty k, but nothing wrong with a nice, catchy k song haha ppl always automatically think that k songs are "low in quality" but i believe in high quality k songs biggrin.gif theres a reason why after all these years of ppl criticizing it, its still the most popular form of music (though i still think that most HKers are not open enough to non-k songs and more alternative music).
themissingpiece
^ wait, are you saying that Warner was confident in Fiona to release a full length album after her half year away? Despite Warner & Fiona's claims that they weren't "freezing" her last year by pushing her away to Taiwan and being essentially totally absent from HK, I have to wonder if that was part of it? It's a typical record company tactic...We'll probably never know, but it would be so interesting if we knew if other companies made offers to Fiona.

Yeah totally agree with blablablah, I really don't find anything wrong with K songs if they are well written, sung, and catchy. Definately agree, ppl always roll their eyes and immediately associate K songs with low quality. I mean 木紋 and 鍾無艷 are really K, but it doesn't stop them from being good songs..
blablablah
^what i meant was that it was confident for them to sign a long and expensive contract with her without "testing" the market first with a new album or EP. but then they probably didn't have the time since the contract was almost over. and yeah i also think that it would be interesting to know if she had any other offers.

well i won't really consider 鍾無艷 to be really k, haha but 木紋 is a great example of a song that is very k but also a pretty high quality song.

yup! totally agree 木紋 is a really good song haha Denise's songs are always high quality! Her production crew really does a good job with arranging her songs in an orchestra way. It's surprising that Louis Cheung was the one who composed it too since he usually right hip hop and RnB songs.

OMG I just saw the MV for Khalil and Fiona's new duet! The MV is so awesome, I wonder if it's filmed in Taiwan as well. They resang Jacky Cheung's song in Mandarin. lol When I first heard it I didn't even realize they were resing his song because it sound so different soothing and relaxing! Khalil rarely sings these love songs, wished he'd sing more because his voice is so attractive when he sings them and captures your attention until the end!

^ THANKS SOO MUCH for the link! I love Fiona + Khalil..and their version of Jacky's classic is very soothing and sweet to listen to! It's an interesting take on Jacky's, this one is more relaxing..Which do you guys like better, 四人遊 or 復刻回憶? This one is more relaxing biggrin.gif

for last week I read the news that Isabella sue EEG for contract matters. what does everyone think?
tvbaddict
^ I think it's about time someone sues them for their ridiculous contracts, but then again I don't think she'll get anything out of it because she did agree to it when she signed it.
Yunsias ♥
It's time that someone sues them but the case is making Isabella look like a total fool causing she (or her mum) was the one who signed it and she should read through it before signing. But if she can give evidence where the company forced her to do something that she didn't want to do or that "the company made use of her", then it's going to be really interesting considering that she is the one who never expected to become so famous in the movie industry.

I definitely like 復刻回憶 more cause it's just more soothing and relaxed while 四人遊 sounds too bittersweet.

o...the thread has quieted down! but anyway, there is a bit I want to say on some of the things we wer talking about earlier..

On Mani vs. Paco. I do agree that 60699 that Mani is not as respected as Paco. I think that most of that is due to that Paco started out working in music, like producing and overseeing songs. On the other hand, Mani started out as an assistant before Bondy Chiu called her "manager" in front of the press. As a result, Mani really doesn't "know" the music workings ..but yet promotes singers. And thus, you never hear Mani talk about a particular song or music, she mainly responds to rumors and all the stuff said about EEG. On the other hand, Paco will talk about the music and get more "involved," ie hearing the melody for 小城大事 and telling Mark to extend that section to create a representative song for Miriam.

But like blablablah said, Mani really does deserve some credit for accomplishing what she did considering her age. Even if she doesn't have anymore successes other than Joey and Twins, that's still quite an achievement. While it's true that Mani is more popular than some of her artists..Paco is as well. I dare say he's more well known than Miki Yeung. In addition, I think we're forgetting that many of the successes that Paco has..he DID NOT start from scratch. Miriam, Leo, Andy, Edmond did not start out under Paco. In the case of Miriam, while it's definately true that Paco pushed her to Heavenly Queen status..it's arguable that she was "on" her way because she had 少女的祈禱 and the great reviews for <Play it Loud, Kiss Me Soft> right before Capitol closed. I *think* that really only Kelly, did Paco push from scratch. While for Mani, she started with Twins and Joey from scratch and completely packaged them for the industry.

As for the Isabella lawsuit, I definately agree that the length of the contracts for EEG artists are absolutely ridiculous, but I don't think this is the smartest way for Isabella to go about it. Let's assume that she is able to terminate the contract. But what happens if the "rich guy" supporting her no longer does & the career in Hollywood doesn't work out?? I think she is going to be blacklisted in the HK industry by EEG. It might have been smarter to not be so public against EEG.

Plus, she signed another contract with EEG once she reached the age of 18, so it's going to be a difficult lawsuit. On her point that they made her do things outside of her contract..Joey gave a pretty angry response. She told Isabella to return to HK and to make it clear what she means by that statement because it hurts the image of EEG and their artists. Now everyone (including myself) finds EEG really shady. But it got me thinking that Joey by being so blunt with her response..does it mean EEG isn't as shady as we think?

But I think it's interesting to see how the whole thing plays out, because we get more "insight" into these contracts. On certain issues mentioned in Isabella's countersuit, supposedly that EEG takes 40% - 50% commission. While that's high, I think that's common for the HK industry for younger singers/celebrities. If I'm not mistaken..Stephy revealed that Paco/Gold Label takes 60% (someone confirm for me?) whistle.gif But of course the issue is that EEG artists essentially are tied for their entire career and cannot negotiate better terms.
themissingpiece
Looks like "further deterioration" of the Miriam-TVB relationship..

Yesterday, TVB had invited all of their contracted singers to attend for filming of their Olympic Song MV. Joey, Eason, Hacken, Leo, Fiona, Alex, etc attended. Charlene was sick and did not participate. Of course, the media honed in on the absence of Miriam ALONG with the rest of A-Music (Janice, Jill, Charles). According to TVB, they invited A-Music but A-Music responded their artists all had other jobs and could not attend. And of course to add to the matter, Miriam on the same date, attended an eyeglass function..if i'm not mistaken, Janice has concert in Malaysia so could not attend.

They are saying it's an "A Music Boycott." I think it's interesting that no one noted that Denise likewise did not attend. Could it be an East Asia boycott?

Also now rumored that Leo will not renew with TVB.

yeah dats what i was thinking the whole time. For EEG to take legal action as well as Joey's angry response, perhaps EEG is not as "dark" as ppl think it is. If EEG was really as bad as everyone says it is, i don't think EEG would even dare to sue Isabella cuz they can get into pretty big trouble if some really shady details are revealed. And everything Joey said is so true, like how she's being irresponsible by suddenly leaving HK, as well as how Isabella (and probably her parents) signed the contract therefore she should follow the conditions.

now i'm not saying that EEG is clean and pure, but maybe not AS bad as ppl assume it is because of Albert Yeung's history...

as for the East Asia thing...wow dats pretty interesting...i wonder why. some ppl say that its cuz Joey keeps winning over Miriam but i really don't think thats why they would boycott TVB since Joey has been winning over Miriam in pretty much every station. I mean, for the past 3 years, i doubt even Miriam really expected to win anything. And if the Leo news is true, then TVB really needs to change the ways they do things. If thats true, then as mentioned before, all TVB has left is Joey, Hacken, and Eason that are top-tiered singers.
60699
Actually, Leo confirmed that he still is under contract with TVB and that he will resign with TVB since he started his career in TVB.

Eason at the same time says that he still has a couple of years in his TVB contract and contract stuff is dealt with by his company. But he goes on to say that it would be nice if he could work and promote with other tv channels (does it mean he's leaning towards not renewing?), but of course saves himself from the backlash by saying that TVB is the most watched station, so for the time being he's still under them.

My question is why is Joey so vocal on this Isabella matter. Every other matter involved with EEG she (and all other artists for that matter) have been "I'm not going to comment" or "I'm not in the situation so I'm not in position to say" and while all other artists have decided not to comment, why is Joey being so vocal this time?

As for EEG, who cares how they treat their artists if their own artists obviously don't have a problem with it when they sign?
blablablah
^i think its partly cuz Mani has been really stressed about this lately and being a good friend Joey decided to stand up for her and EEG. but yeah, its interesting, and as missingpiece mentioned before, this kinda shows that EEG may not be as "bad" as ppl think it is.
themissingpiece
I think it's reasonable that Joey is having a "big" response..I mean like she said, it's so ambiguous the terminology used in Isabella's countersuit and that does cast EEG and its artists in a negative light if there wasn't one already. So the "outside your contract" thing does hurt your reputation, so I think it's reasonable that Joey is hitting back so much. Other EEG artists did say "it's not their place" but they also mentioned how their contracts were explained to them fully, etc. And it's another minus for isabella, i mean the terms of the contract...you were supposed to read and agree with them..before you sign them.

Forgot to add that in the Olympic mv thingy, TVB said they asked Kelly as well, but her schedule clashed..
themissingpiece
Patrick Tang is releasing a new best selection + new album. He has seemingly been releasing/plugging songs like crazy over the past year. But does anyone else feel that his new songs don't even close to matching how good his old songs are (朋友二號 , 心寒)?

Plus, Kelly mentioned that 3/4 of her concert will be fast songs! Woot, that's the way to bring the atmosphere to a high! And she said..everyone's trying to get tickets to the last concert..LOL, who wouldn't?

Also Ivana Wong is singing the themesong to the upcoming series "The Silver Chambers of Sorrow." A bit surprising, I don't think Ivana has sung a themesong before..but it's really does seem like TVB is reverting back to using singers for their themes..have they finally released how their artists singing them is a bad idea. I think in 2008 of all the series released with an actual song for themesong, only D.I.E and A Journey Called Life have TVB artists singing the theme.

blablablah
^wow 3/4 of the concert!? now dats what i call a Kelly concert!!!
themissingpiece
Some other tidbits..

Kelly confirmed that Leon will be one of the guests and "wants" to invite The 4 Heavenly Kings. hmm, I think the 4 Kings as Kelly's guests is actually quite possible, considering she knows each of them pretty well.

and yeah 3/4 fast songs sounds like a TRUE Kelly concert.

Richie said that Sammi and Miriam will attend his concerts..but I'm not sure if he means as guests onstage or just in the audience. But he did ask Tony Leung to be a guest.

Jan Lamb will have a part 2 to his standup show.
tvbaddict
Very disappointed that 心寒 is not on Patrick's album sad-smiley-065.gif. Is it considered to be Patrick's song or Ronald's?

Wow if Kelly does invite all the 4 kings, that'd be superb and she'll be the second person (if I'm correct), after Softhard to have the "status" to invite all of them.
And yay to 3/4 fast songs!!!! Highhhhhhhh to the max.
tvbaddict
Woah, Liz Kong 江希文 (Kong Yun Yeen's sister) just released a Mandarin album... I really didn't know she was a singer.
60699
^ Yeah, I didn't know what she was at first and when I found out she was a singer I was like "didn't know that!" Anyway, didn't she change her Chinese name to something else, no longer 希文.
hellokitty123
I thought Liz Kong changed her name to 'ah chi'? Actually, she was previously a singer but her music didn't sell, therefore she turned towards TVB - following her sister's footsteps. However, after a while, she disappeared from TVB though if I'm not mistaken.
tvbaddict
I'm not sure if she changed her Chinese name or not but her album still says 江希文. I think this might not be a HK release album because it uses simplified chinese on the cover =/.

Btw, that MOOV LIVE concert is starting next week right? And it's a concert where they play new songs? I'm excited... especially for Jun Kung's part! smile.gif
themissingpiece
tvbaddict, I think 心寒 is considered Patrick's song because it's his song. Just that later a duet version with Ronald came out as well. I'm a bit surprised it's not included as well..I thought it was one of his more popular songs. And I thought the first MOOV concert was Kary in May..

blablablah, I saw your shout-out @ JG. Thanks!

Any comments on recent albums?

Sherman <Castle>
hmm, no one commenting on Sherman's album? Where's kencl??
Here's my thoughts after listening to it: Sherman's voice is strong and unique. There simply are some songs that other HK female singers right now cannot do, like 我的青春幽灵. But somehow, I think that Sherman sounds a bit out of place when she sings those "hing fai" songs, I think it's because her voice is dramatic sounding and it just doesn't work with those relaxing songs. But certainly I see a bright future for her...if she continues along the fast + slow songs, because other "new" female signers simply aren't trying too hard for the fast song market.

Favorite tracks: 我的青春幽灵, 堡垒, 刚刚好, 扶手电梯

Priscilla Chan's recent concert:
This might be a stretch, did any of you guys listen to it? Yea i realize it's not really "our generation" but I was interested in what she sounded like in this "mini-comeback." She had quite a few hits in the early 90s...but after hearing the live cd, she sounds a bit strange to me, she doesn't sound like what she used to. I feel like she lost the "power" in her voice, especially pronounced to me when I heard her sing 飄雪. I remember how powerful this song but after her recent live rendition, a bit disappointed. And she sounds out of breath at other parts, like when singing 花火 (didn't like her rendition of that song, perhaps too engrained with either Sammi or Gigi singing it).

And after listening to Denise's Goomusic with all her old hits, I think 韻律泳 stands out even more because the music is a rather simple melody. While all of her other songs are much more complex, music wise.
tvbaddict
^ Jun's Moov Live is on 4/30 (first show)

I was gonna make a comment on Priscilla's concert as well but I didn't really know where to start. I agree with you about her losing it...
Is there a reason why she sang so many of other people's songs? I enjoyed her version of Leslie's在右手 , but other than that there wasn't much that caught my attention even though I really like some of her oldies. It seems that most people who sing Leslie's 在右手 make it quite listenable (ie: Hacken and Priscilla, but I definitely enjoyed Hacken's version more than Priscilla's).

Speaking of Denise, her HALL1C USB is out for overseas sales! haha smile.gif
themissingpiece
^ yeah the concert was a charity concert and Priscilla said she wanted to sing other artists songs....but when she said that, she's like I wanna try Stephy, Janice, etc's songs..but when I looked at the tracklist. that did NOT happen and I wonder why!?

Denise's USB thing is soo cute..man, she must be making a lot of money off the souvenirs!
boa_fan929
Looks like "It's My Day" did fairly well in Taiwan, debuting within the weekly top 20 (at #13) in the G-music charts. Not to single out any particular artist, but I don't think a lot of HK artists debut within the top 20. (I know that Joey didn't and I don't think Twins' 2008 Mando album didn't either)

Other HK artists:

Eason Chan - highest position #2
Jordan Chan - highest position #6
Khalil Fong - highest position #8

Another TW sales chart:
"It's My Day" at #11.

^ Thanks for the info boa fan929! We can always count on you for good info! So which chart is more reliable or how do the charts differ?

That's great news for Fiona but a bit surprising..that she's doing well in Taiwan for someone who really hasn't made it "huge" in Hong Kong just yet. But how are her plugs doing on the charts??? But really, Twins's new Mandarin album didn't even place in the Top 20?? It debuted before the scandal.. I thought that Twins was doing well in the Mandarin market and that they were probably the most successful HK artist recently to cross over. I remember reading of "fan wars" btw S.H.E and Twins fans..but woah blink.gif

As for Joey-Mandarin market, yeah we were discussing that earlier in this thread on how she hasn't been able to break into Mandarin market yet.

I wonder if it's due to Warner being an international record company vs. the localized EEG?

====
And on Denise, I'm so happy to finally get to hear a clear version of Denise/Sammi duet. Denise's right, Sammi hardly ever sings this type of song! And never thought that Sammi & Denise would sound alike, I have some trouble differentiating their voices! I just wish they had given the song a real shot at the charts, I mean it is a collaboration btw 2 heavenly queens!
60699
^ Yeah, I actually wanted to comment on the Denise-Sammi sounding alike thing after I heard Goo Music Collection.

I wasn't really paying attention when I was listening to songs one day (you know when you have a list random songs and you aren't paying attention) and this song caught my attention because I know I didn't have a Sammi song on list, but I heard her voice. Then I realized it was just a bad version of Denise's 韻律泳 and I sort of disregarded the fact that Denise and Sammi had similar voices because Sammi's voice always stands out for me.

So I went ahead and listened to Goo Music Collection and the Denise-Sammi duet was on it. I was half paying attention and half not when I was listening to the collection and I wasn't paying attention to the tracklist so when the duet (which I only heard a clip of prior) came up I was wondering whether my ears were off that day or something because it sounded like 2 different voices, but it sounded exactly alike. It wasn't until it looped back for a second play that I realized it was their duet and I couldn't deny that they sound alike.

As for the song, maybe Sammi hasn't sung that particular type before, but it's not far fetched that she would sing it because she has a whole bunch of out-of-the-norm songs herself. So although I know the hype going into it (I'm sure Denise fans were estatic), I myself didn't find it surprising that Sammi would perform it and perform it well.

As for 韻律泳, Denise needs to be respected more. Non-fans were saying her music isn't popular enough or it's too much on the "different" side, so she releases this song and people are say "it's not k-enough or not popular enough". Give the damn girl a break!!! That aside, love Wyman's lyrics...鴛鴦再戲水...a line you would hear in Virtues of Harmony!

I'm not sure which chart is more reliable and what the difference is.

I heard one of the reasons why Twins didn't debut within the top 20 for their latest album was because they didn't go to Taiwan to promote the album. Apparently, EEG has "given up" on trying to break into the Taiwan market and is just focusing any EEG Mandarin album promotion on the Mainland.
themissingpiece
^ I think Twins were scheduled for album promotion in Taiwan but then the scandal happened and that had to be cut. Hmm, I thought they had good results in Taiwan but they also have good results in Mainland..but regardless it is getting harder and harder for HK artists to crossover into Taiwan.

and it looks like the newcomers of 2008 are starting to appear..with the Fiona Fung debut being much talked about. If that name is familar, it's becaue she sang the themesong to Hearts of Fencing theme: <Shining Friends>. AND she writes lyrics as well..including Twins' 救生圈, Pakho's 六天, and Jason's 永久保. Definately talented, has a unique and beautiful voice! o and she's signed to SonyBMG, looks like Sony is back in the game..pushing out Jason and now Fiona.

Fiona Fung 陽光, 雨 Live Performance on JSG:

themissingpiece
and dang have you guys heard Ella Koon's version of Ne-Yo's "So Sick"?? Pretty good and she plays the song herself on the piano! Seriously why isn't that girl popular??? I'll write another post on that later..for my next "underappreciated singer"

The second song:

60699
^This girl isn't popular because another one of your faves (Fiona Sit) got popular in an instant and those who debuted the same year weren't even given a chance. But if you ask me, I'd take Ella over Fiona any day, "Blue, White, Red" explains it all. ANY day.

After the success of Fiona, Ella and Co. turned to TVB and her popularity rose after playing Ron's love interest in "Revolving Doors," so they played off that. Then things happened and she switched companies (?) and being under East Asia really doesn't help because of all the other artists they have. I'm pretty sure that if she joins another company (which she says she has not) and they actually promote her music, she'd give Fiona a run for her money. On image, it's sexy (Ella) vs. cute (Fiona) and lets face it (no offense to Fiona) that Ella is the better looking; on music, Ella is much more versatile and because of that versatility she can attract other singers to work with her (i.e. Eason, Denise, Josie); on personality, I think they both have their respective personalities, but Ella has this sort of personality where she cares how people view her beauty but not her personality and in the industry not caring how people view your personality will make you survive longer. That being said, I think the industry needs both girls.
themissingpiece
^ Well both Fiona and Ella are part of my "faves." I like Fiona, but if I was asked to choose one over the other in terms of singing, Ella wins by A LOT. But the thing with Fiona is, that Warner is brillant with choosing good tailored songs for her, that mask her weak areas in singing. It's pretty impressive the collection of hits that Fiona has garnerd after only a few years. As for Ella, actually I liked her music since her first plug 地平线. Love Eric Kwok joining in the song for a brief part. I don't think I've ever seen Ella give a bad live performance. The girl can give the same quality performances live as in the studio, while the same cannot be said for Fiona. It's true, Fiona obliterated the competition in 2004 with 奇洛李維斯回信. Ella's big tag that year came with being "picked" by Sam Hui, but that didn't seem to help her at all. But I thought with her singing talent, she would be "noticed" in the following years, kind of like how Khalil, Kay, are getting more exposure a few years later after the Justin/Janice-fever has subsided a bit. She's gorgeous, can act, can sing, and has a fun personality (I love watching her on gameshows! She's so game. I loved how in 15/16, when she was permitted to ask one question to determine who was the real salesperson, her first question was "how are you?" buahaha.gif ). Also, you would think the songs she has released..would get her the "hits." 戲中有氣, 失常, and especially 暗戀航空 should have pushed her to that higher popularity.

Perhaps like in her "Fan and Kam" interview, they mentioned, Ella's profile as a singer seemingly has never been promoted. I went karoaking with some friends before and picked an Ella song to sing..and they didn't even know that Ella was a singer. And Ella acknowledges the same problem. I would chalk that up to her small music company. She's actually part of BoomBeat Music. East Asia only distributes her albums. The other artist in BoomBeat is Cathy Leung (who also got criminally overlooked last year, she's got the looks and the sweet sweet voice). I actually think it might be better for her if she joined East Asia, despite them having many singers. But she needs the big company backing, it feels like the small company is killing her potential.

I don't think she only gives Fiona a run for her money, she gives all of this up and coming generation a run for their money. Like you said, Ella's voice is very versatile. Plus, her voice is unique and has power. Another impressive thing that Ella does well in singing is that she is good at capturing the emotion in the songs (which is probably why she's a good actress as well). My favorite song of hers, 戲中有氣, I find that she put a lot of emotion into it and that's probably why I love the song.

Here's some good videos of Ella's live singing ability (I think she did really well with the covers!!!)

Faye's 容易受傷的女人 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm5Yz7bHdjQ...feature=related
Priscilla's 千千闕歌 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auODI7pC1LA...feature=related

though I'm still stuck on her cover of <So Sick>

She got unanimous good review with Survivor's Law II, so hopefully it can help her this year. She has said that she won't give up on singing because she loves singing and thinks of her abilities, that's her best one!

I love that song too! I agree that she is one of the unrecognized singers. At first, when she first debuted, a lot of people were suspicious that such a beautiful girl can sing so well. And then her singing career just faded away because of the focus on her acting and her rumours with Ron. Well, you can see that she is focusing on acting now but she should try again in the music industry since she has such a strong voice! Her second album was just so good.

About Fiona Fung, she's not a newcomer since she released an album in 2005 and a second one last year. I don't think she is splendid in her singing but her lyrics got my attention and Pong Nan kept her promoting her in his blog since they are good friends. My favourite song of her is "Flying Chess".

^ hmm, I knew that Fiona Fung released quite a few songs already..but didn't know she actually released albums before. It seemed like they were pushing her out to be eligible for the newcomer awards this year. But I guess it doesn't matter, considering Kenny got newcomer awards as well after he went solo.

The rumor is that Miriam's first plug will be released May 1st...and it will be more along the lines of 處處吻! Which is good, I liked 處處吻, does that mean that Leon did not produce this album?

^omgggg i love 處處吻!!!!!! i'm so excited nowww!!! haha

Some clips from the TVB Olympic MV Filming

Needless to say, it looks kind of corny and well it's one of those "big" everyone sings songs..so it's not going to be great.

But does anyone find the short clip of Hacken holding a gun funny? buahaha.gif

^ I am really not into the who group songs anymore. They do it so many of it these days that it is no longer special. What would be special is if HK took a big risk and just chose one person, which would be controversial, to sing the song.

If you watched the day they recorded the group thing you would see why they cut so much of it off. The "dance" was way corny!!! But Hacken was totally hilarious because he was like "they choregraphed the dance for me" cause it was so simple.

Regressing a little...about Ella. She made it clear that she's sticking with East Asia, but I don't know why she's sticking with them when she could leave. First of all, I think Ella should just sign under Goo Music to be it's first artist, but I think Denise is looking to sign those singers with potential but would never be given the chance because of the pop nature of the HK industry. Since that's the case, if I were her manager I would consider signing her under Universal even if it means she wouldn't get that much money upfront. Sign a 2-3 year contract and if things work out she'll get the money when she renews.
blablablah
^i know eh! talk about corny!!!! and Hacken was like "Joey probably finds it too simple", but surprisingly Joey (as well as Eason) said that it was actually quite difficult ROFL they were probably kidding though...

but yeah, at least these are better than those EEG group songs! i'm so happy that Joey is rarely in them now, though occasionally she's still a part of them.

^ o yeah the EEG group songs are TERRIBLE. But I also dislike those company New Year songs that many record companies love to release every year, it's so cluttered and annoying (yeah I know it's supposed to be that big happy family crap but still annoying..).

um 60699, technically Ella isn't part of East Asia. She's signed to BoomBeat Music, but since they're so small, they don't have a releasing arm..so East Asia helps them release. Last year, her manager @ BoomBeat left for a job at BMA, so there was the speculation that Ella would jump to BMA as well. Though I'm kind of glad she's not joining BMA, I feel they really aren't a good music company. But she firmly stated that she wasn't leaving BoomBeat because the boss is a music enthusiast and treats the artists well or something like that. But I agree, I have no idea why she's staying! or..perhaps she said that last year because her contract wasn't up yet. If so, then I understood why she said it. But when it does expire, I really hope she goes to a better company. Because BoomBeat doesn't help her at all in music, she (and Cathy) are wasting away there.

I think that Ella should sign with "Rich & Famous Management" (East Asia's) and Goomusic for record company. With Hocc at Goomusic, the focus will firmly back on the music and she will get promotion in that aspect. Since East Asia will release Goomusic albums, she has East Asia behind her as well. With East Asia as management, she will get to utilize that acting potential as well..

EDIT: and impressive...Kelly's song is STILL on the 903 charts. 抱歉柯德莉夏萍 is getting a lot of airplays, it's reportedly at 130 already..and it's going to be on the charts at least another week. A bit surprised by the 903 support..

And does anyone find it ironic that Jade's new song is aptly titled, <Forget Me Not>?
60699
^ Yeah, I know Ella not specifically under East Asia, you mentioned that a couple of times already. But when I was typing away I forgot what's the company name Boombeat, Boombox, Boom-whatever, so I figured I'd just stick with East Asia...can't go wrong with that...or so I thought.

It wouldn't be that bad if she joined BMA, at least they promote singers...sort of...more so than Boombeat. Ah ha, maybe I'll remember the company name now.
boa_fan929
Maybe Ella should go to Louis Cheung's/Candy Lo's company - WOW Music.
