Personally, I dont really watch ancient series unless it is a comedy and i like the ppl in it. Anceient Series just dont attract my attention

It depends. I like both. I mean it it has my favorite actors and actresses in it, I can't really decide on what kind of series I like to watch.

i prefer ancient dramas because it is like learning the history of china while watching the movie. I know maybe majority of the information is not true but still. My favorite is about kingdoms of china. For the modern drama, majority of them are ok. Once in a while you find one that have a really good storyline.

Modern series with an intriguing storyline, lots of bad ppl who's plotting to harm other ppl hehe. That's what creates excitement, not lame comedies where everybody's good and normal.

Slightly prefer modern series as the plots are usually more complicated / there is more freedom in the script etc.

But some actors and actresses look very good in ancient dramas so that's worth watching just for that (:

I use to like ancient series more but TVB hasn't made a good one for a long time. I miss those awesome martial-arts (Jin-Yong) ancient series, and the light-hearted ones like Colourful Life.

Ancient series (marital arts ancient series), but the last couple of years tvb manage to make only crap martial arts ancients series. Swords of lethal en passion or what the name was, was kinda dissapointed, because I had expected so much more.

Modern Drama's, well they are ok, but are way too predictable en it's always about love

I perfer modern series over ancient series. I can relate to modern series better. Sometimes when they're speaking in ancient sentences I just don't understand.

Both ancient and modern series as long as they are good series. When seeing ancient series, I can learn history. When seeing modern series, I can know how they are living right now.

I personally prefer ancient series with marital arts and good story line. I like to watch Jinyong's ancient story, they are the best. Especially like Return of the Condor heroes. Ancients series nowadays cant compare to Jinyong's story.Right now I beleive TVB ancients series market is not as great as mainland china. Most of TVB ancient series sux these day.

I prefer modern series because when I watch ancient ones I don't understand some of the things that are going on. Things that have to do with the government and culture.

i personally like modern series..im okay with ancient as well only when i like the actors and actresses in it

i like ancient. since i'm a action type guy i rather see people fighting with martial arts then using some cool mystical powers etc. but that is if the storyline, casting is good. i always need a ancient drama with good casting, comedy, romance if you will and of course good fighting scenes. tvb seem to stop producing wuxia type series since they are not good at it. heck even wong jings series with all those tragedy are better then tvb wuxia series like the devil deciple.

some reason i never watch modern day series. i guess they are usually the same reason why i don't watch them. rather watch american modern day drama since they could do any plot twist anytime they want while chinese modern day series, there is only a certain amount of plot twist and episode limitations. thats why i like watching series like Lost, Heroes, Supernatural, Smallville, All the CSI, Monk, Psych, Charm, Angel, etc...anything that has some comedy and good casting i watch but not chinese modern day. just can't stand it.

i like modern over ancient, but it depends, depending on the story line, like i dont mind watching all the fighting and flying around series lol as long as its a got a good story line and actors, but i dont really like the ones about the kings they dont see as interesting but i might watch it still just depends if the beginning is interesting.

Yea it depends what kind of story line it is. I'm watching ancient series when i want to find some "kung-fu" or something around that style, cause the modern series hasn't those scenes i really want to see. But comedy or something like that is always modern series who's laying first in my mind

In the past, I used to like ancient series more because the costumes & hairstyles are so unique but not anymore. The current ancient series do not match up to the old ones. The storyline sucks. So, now I prefer to watch the modern series more.

Agreed. I used to enjoy both ancient and modern, but it seems like the modern series has been outdoing the ancient series lately, so i would have to go with modern.

I prefer ancient cause I get to learn about the ancient history of china. I don't know much so either have to read from books or watch movies.

Why?....the beautiful costumes and the impossible martial arts and flying arount that they do!!! It's so cool and romantic lolz

But TVB makes excellent modern series too ofcourse! but i prefer the modern series with a story line e.g. mystery or comedy mixed with a little reomance.

i like the kung fu series.....dont like the other ancient series.....where they have funky costumes...and talk in a fuuny accent...really dont like those...

Before, I used to like ancient dramas more, because the clothes were so prettyy!! And the chinese history was a bonus
But now..there hasn't been any ones I like,
so I like modern ones better

I like both kinds. Depends on the storyline and cast of both though. Sometimes the ancient series talk about the history of some era and I don't really understand since they use different words back in the day. But I guess I am leaning a little bit towards the modern series. I understand more since it is set in this time period and we get to see the everyday problems that happens.

Mostly modern series...but also depends if the series has a good storyline/cast if there's a good ancient series once in a while I'll probably watch it anyway

ancient series cuz tvb always seems to come up with new ideas nd new storylines
in modern series....its always bout competition for love nd competition in the company...i guess its too repetitive

ancient, you can't help but like it if you were around during the eighties and 90's, the reason why ancient isn't as good anymore is cause they ran out of ideas, i stop watching tvb period... just getting too boring, same actors, and same storyline over and over again. They let too many veteran actors go to mainland.

I do prefer Modern series over Ancient.
I find Ancient dramas rather boring.
It feels like they're recycling ideas even more than modern.
Nowadays, the ancient dramas are worse in my opinion.
I only like Virtues of Harmony and Square pegs.
And Maiden's vow which is like 1/4.
But a ancient drama is actually good, sure I'll watch it.

I like the the ancient shows with the kung fu and awesome CG's. Modern drama's arent bad just as long as the storyline is decent.

I like modern series because the language is easier to understand,
and i like ancient series because of beautiful costumes and hair dos the girls wear, but the language is much harder to understand most of the time

I prefer modern series to ancient ones..mainly because: 1) I can't stand the cheesy fighting scenes. 2.) sometimes I can't understand what they're saying.

I personally love ancient drama. i like the ancient history clothing, so cool especially the armor of the generals, soldier.

Some of the major reasons I dislike modern is because it's modern (everything's too common), many modern actors (those who act for modern series) vary from poor to mediocre acting skills, and there's no excitement (action-wise) - it's all talk and arguments.

it depends on the storyline and actors involved but i would prefer ancient series. they modern comedy ones are almost all junk, at least in the ancient ones its watchable

I mainly like modern series better than ancient series. Most of the ancient series are confusing and boring because they have to explain all these things to do with the ancient times that you can't keep up with. In modern series, it's much easier to watch and follow.

i like the ancient series especially the ones filmed in the old days because the fights were more realistic.. the ones filmed now are exxagerated by special effects.

I have always liked modern series more than ancient series. There was a time where I wouldn't even watch any ancient series. But I started watching some ancient because often times they can teach you a lot about Chinese history. However I still like modern more because you can relate to the storyline more.

I like ancient series from the 80s and 90s. I find them more exciting to watch than the ancient series now. Maybe I've watched too many TVB series over the years, so now when I watch an ancient series, I'm only half into it. I find the storyline for most ancient series today acceptable, but not extraordinary. There are some surprises every now and then, but overall I find it's pretty much the same thing. Nothing I haven't seen before and not as unpredictable as others say it is. I also don't like remakes of ancient series because I find the original so much better.
