Miss Chinese International 2008 to be Held Tonight‘Miss Chinese International Pageant 2008’ will be held tonight and so, all 23 contestants had a dress rehearsal for the swimwear section of the contest yesterday. This year’s swimwear was evidently much more revealing than previous years, making it easier to observe the nature of each contestant’s body. The voting for ‘Miss Friendship’ also took place and the winner, #15 Delaine Lee was announced.
After months of training and preparation, the 23 contestants will be at their peak form for the pageant that will be held tonight at 8:30pm. But during yesterday’s rehearsals, it was quite obvious that some contestants have room for improvement because their lower body was clearly meatier than their upper body.
Contestants #4 Aileen Xu, #5 Wendy Xu, #15 Delaine Lee and #22 Karen Chong stood out during the rehearsals as they have a much curvier body than the rest. When asked if she felt most confident in the swimwear section, #4 Aileen Xu replied, “Nope! I have the most confidence in the dancing section, even though I have never learnt dancing.” #15 Delaine Lee expressed that all contestants have the chance to win the top awards. When asked that if she felt that she did not have such as strong chance of winning the crown after being awarded the ‘Miss Friendship’ title, #15 Delaine Lee answered, “Winning awards does not matter because every one of us has the ability to enter the top 10 and top 5.”
Out of all the contestants, #4 Aileen Xu, #13 Oceane Lu, #18 Liang Wong and #20 Ivy Han are the most pretty. When reporters pointed out that #20 Ivy Han appeared calmer during the rehearsals than when wearing swimwear last time, she explained, “That’s true! The ground was uneven where we were shooting, so I was afraid of falling into the pool.” Meanwhile #18 Liang Wang expressed that she does have confidence to do well tonight and when asked how she was feeling, she replied, “I am very healthy!” When asked what she meant by that, #18 Liang Wang explained that she was sick earlier so she thought the reporters were asking about her health.
On the other hand, Hong Kong’s representative, #12 Kayi Cheung was obviously thinner. When questioned about this, she exclaimed, “Yes! I have quit eating chocolate. (Feeling any pressure?) I feel ok. We have been rehearsing for a long time, so I know the dance routine well. I do have confidence to win awards.”

i dont think kayi cheung should get the first runner up. really, i think there are still many others prettier than her. it's just that most probably the judges are from HK. that's why they get her into winning.

Netizens Unsatisfied with MCI08 Results, Criticise Kayi Cheung‘2008 Miss Chinese International Pageant’ was completed on Saturday night. Despite bringing Hong Kong honour by coming second place in the beauty contest, Kayi Cheung was still the subject of criticism online. But judges, Moses Chan, Lee Sze-Kei and host, Eric Tsang, stood by Kayi, with Eric stating, “The quality of the contestants this year was very high. At first I was worried that Kayi would not make it into the top five but because she was calm, she was able to win.”
Netizens have said that they believed that the results were ‘rigged’ and expressed their pity for contestant #20, Sydney’s Ivy Han, who was unable to receive a top 3 placing. Eric Tang, who was a host of the pageant, expressed that he was quite worried about Kayi Cheung not being able to get a top five placing because of the high quality of this year contestants, he commented, “She won because she was calm.” Meanwhile, Moses Chan, who was one of the judges on the night, attended an event with the newly crowned Miss Chinese International, Oceane Zhu, Kayi Cheung, Aileen Xu and Delaine Lee. During the function, Moses was asked if the top 3 contestants were his favourite. He replied, “Yes! The winner won by a lot. Kayi’s performance was also great. (But many netizens are unsatisfied with her win.) True but there will always be people who are unhappy with the results.”
Regarding her win and the criticism, Kayi expressed, “After the pageant was over, I was relieved. I was quite surprised that I won an award. (Eric Tsang did not think you would have been able to enter the top five) Yes, at first, I did not think I performed too well. On top of that, I cannot dance too well. That is why I worked hard to rehearse the dance routine, in hope that I would be able to do my best.”
On the other hand, double award winner, Oceane Zhu was over the moon during the after party. She disclosed that she will be flying to Beijing to celebrate with her family. When asked why she yelled out to the other contestants, ‘we are free, we can eat all we want’, Oceane explained that all the contestants had been very careful with their diets, during the lead up to the pageant, because everyone wanted to look good during the swimwear section.

Kayi Cheung Recieved Special Treatment During MCI08?2008 Miss Chinese International winner, Oceane Zhu, first runner up, Kayi Cheung, second runner up, Aileen Xu and Miss Friendship Delaine Lee were at an award ceremony yesterday. It has been reported that the contestants, who failed to receive a placing, are unsatisfied with the results, especially with Kayi Cheung coming second place. The contestant complained that Kayi received special treatment, that include having her nails painted a more eye catching colour and having chest padding sown into her costumes. Regarding the negative rumours, Kayi commented, “After I received the award, the other contestants were happy for me. I do not believe they would say such things because we are good friends. Anyway, my clothing was prepared by the organisers, I did not have preferential treatment.”
Kayi disclosed the results were made up of points from many sections and that the low scores she received were from individual sections. Being the Miss Hong Kong winner and first runner up of Miss Chinese International, Kayi expressed that she is use to the negative press and so, she will not be upset by them.
On the other hand, reports of Oceane Zhu taking half naked, back revealing photos have surfaced. Oceane explained that during her time as a model, she has taken some sexy shots but in comparison to this pageant, the shots were not as revealing as the beauty contest. She commented, “During my time as a model, I might have taken back baring photos but anything that is too sexy, I definitely would not have posed for. I have only taken swimwear photos personally.”

Well, most beauty contests are "rigged" anyways. Every year, somehow the judges had to include the HK contestant to the top 3 runner up so I was not surprised at all with the final results. I never thought it was fair to the other countries who sent out their represenatives to this event and even though they have the brain and looks, some of them don't get a chance to win 'cause at least one of the winners have to come from HK. Why??, the event is held in HK.

The winner is so pretty! I wanted her to win. She kind of represents me (part of Europe). I was shocked about Kayi getting in top 5! What is going on with tvb. It should have been one of them in the top 5.

if kayi's won it then good on her. I feel sorry for her, just coz she may not look as pretty as some others, i think there's something more special in her that stands out. i actually find her quite intelligent and as a good influence on young people , for example it's not for skinny contestants.

You've got really high expectation of what beauty is do you? I think that the winner is very pretty.

Have you watched the show? If you haven't you can't really say anything. If you watched you will release that the winner stole the show with her acting when she got to the top 5 plus she was very calm.
Winning a pageant is not just about beauty. You have to be brainy, intelligent and confident as well. If you were thick (what I mean is you react very slowly to a question) but your pretty and you win miss international or hong kong that is kind of stupid.

Kayi isn't really pretty but isn't ugly either. I did watch the contest but I do think there are some who are better than her in terms of intelligence and talent. Are the judges being bias or something? Just because she originated from HK that's why she is one of the runner-ups? But I can't deny that this year's Miss HKs are quite tall. But what they are missing is looks.
I do think the girl from Toronto is adorable, lol. but that doesn't mean I will support her..

I think these girls are more beautiful then the Miss Hong Kong contestants and I think they are more daring also, they push the envelop a bit more in their outfits.
Looks to me that they are mostly students.I find that hard to believe. Some of them got to have a job a something,a waitress, maybe a receptionist? They can't all be students, maybe some of them have nothing to do just unemploy. Why don't they put that in the application
