[Oriental Daily]

On the first day of the new year, a group of TVB artistes, including MC's Liza Wang and Priscilla Koo and some singers such as Miriam Yeung, Boyz and Yumiko Cheng took part in a New Year Special where TVB chief Sir Run Run Shaw appeared with his New Year Greeting for the viewers, accompanied by Miss Hong Kong winner Mandy Cho and Miss Chinese International Winner Linda Chung.

In the show, Sir Run Run handed out lucky packets to the artistes and the administrative staff and he seemed to be particularly protective of Mandy as he held onto her waist for fear of her falling over and showing the grace of his era. Many praised 'Uncle Six', saying that he was in good health and spirits: "Uncle Six is very funny, he has a lot to say and we chatted a lot."

Yesterday's New Year show was full of a cheery atmosphere and during the show, Timmy Hung, Carlo Ng and Leung Si Ho dressed up as women again in a hilarious comedy sketch. Carlo was the centre of a practical joke as they gathered round to pull away his clothing and then throw ice water over him and making him yell with cold!

Liza appeared dressed in a chipao and took the first action by rushing up to the audience and asking for her lucky packets. She did not do badly, getting ten packets as she said: "The audience this year were a little quieter, I got even more last year."

[Sing Pao & The Sun]

Liza Wang and Law Ka Ying took a trip over the new year with a group of twenty friends to Tokyo and Hokkaido to enjoy a snowy new year. For Ka Ying seeing the snow for the first time made him very excited as the couple spent nearly $100,000 on a shopping spree. However they felt it was worth it and he is now planning for next year's new year when he plans to take Liza on a cruise.

The couple spent eight days in Japan and when they returned to Hong Kong, Ka Ying said in a telephone interview: "This was the first time I had been to see the snowfields in my life and going on the motor sleighs with Liza was so sweet! Liza nearly slipped on the snow, but luckily I was there to hold her hand." Did you take the chance to propose to Liza? He laughs: "Of course not, the new year is the new year, I haven't thought about these things. However I did give a lucky packet to Liza, not a big one though!"

Ka Ying loves to eat sushi and he also recommends to go and try the local 'frost beef'. Although Liza does not eat beef, the seafood there was also very fresh, so the group all put on weight with all the food. As well as the gourmet food, of course Ka Ying enjoyed the Japanese hot springs and massage and even Liza was interested. When asked if the Japanese ladies were good, he laughs: "They were okay, they were actually older 'aunties'. Liza had a massage as well. You only live once and at my age you learn to enjoy life, so I will be working less and playing more in the future. We are planning to go on a cruise next year!"

Liza says: "The trip was organised by the Cantonese opera troup leader to go and watch a show and Ka Ying also wore a set of Japanese costume to appear on the stage, it was so funny! Afterwards, we went to feed the bears, they were really huge! (Did you have any funny stories?) The most embarrasing thing was at the hot spas because there were a lot of Hong Kong people there and it was quite embarrassing being naked in front of everyone."

Also, Liza went to try the local chicken dishes and when asked if she was afraid of bird flu, she replied: "At the time we didn't know how serious the situation was, but now we will be more careful. (You were wearing a mask?) I was afraid of the cold. It is very clean in Japan, so I am not afraid of catching anything." Finally, Liza says that with the iminent airing of her series "Blade Heart", she will be taking part in all the promotional activities.

She used to get married, but divorced, 11 or 12 years after their mariage. Now, she has a boyfriend (Law Ka Ying), they get together for 14 year already. They don't plan to get married, they think they r good like that, don't need to get married.
savvy
Sabby-gurl,
Liza was married to a very nice business man but some years later they divorced. They still remain as good friends, her ex husband still cares about Liza and Liza still looks on the sis of her ex husband as sis-in-law.
Now, Liza has a companion, (I think he is more a companion than a bf tongue.gif) Mr Law.
Liza said before, "I am not getting married because i still haven't met anyone as nice as my ex husband".

A group of cast members from "Blade Heart" including Liza Wang, Shirley Yeung, Raymond Lam, Gregory Lee and Mimi Lo held a promotional event at the Lifai Martial Arts Centre yesterday and underwent some instruction by Li Fai herself in Taijiquan and Taiji Sword. However, Shirley and Mimi's stance was rather flimsy and caused a few laughs for everyone.

Shirley and boyfriend Gregory arrived at the event early and as the activity had not yet started, Shirley picked up a sword and did a few moves with the help of Gregory and put on a very loving scene. Afterwards, Shirley was asked if she felt her boyfriend was very caring and she immediately changed the subject saying: "Don't keep talking about this, why don't you ask about my work? I want to be a heroine!" Although she says she does not want to mention her romance, she then went on to say that Gregory has learned swordplay from Li Fai when he was young so he will teach her a few moves. When asked if she has martial arts potential, she smiles: "Martial arts requires hard work and persistance."

Raymond Lam is not disappointed with the ratings of "Blade Heart" only reaching an average of 27 points and laughs: "This show needs to be savoured slowly, plus you will see more of me later on in the show." He admits that the show is rather deep and serious and a little tragic, but he feels that as it is a martial arts classic, then people will like it.

Having just returned from a meeting in Beijing, Liza immediately threw herself into promoting the show and in response to the ratings results, she says honestly that she is not satisfied, but she does not hope for a particular rating. When asked if she feels pressure from the ratings, she says: "No pressure, because we have all done our best. (Some critics have said that the series is too depressing with so much killing and fighting?) Martial arts shows are never far off from seeking vengeance." She then asked in return about the reviews and indicated this is the most important thing.

Earlier when Liza was in Beijing, there were reports that she had openly commented that TVB had cut her shows to one a year. Yesterday, she clarified there was no such incident and that it was a misunderstanding by the reporter. In truth, when she signed her contract, it was clearly indicated how many shows she would do and she has not had this reduced. Other reports suggest that Liza will not be filming any more series because it is too hard work, but still drawing a high salary and making TVB feel she is hard to please. To this, Liza says a little agitatedly: "As an artiste, working hard is to be expected and is right, so I will not talk about this to anyone else. (Are you angry at the report?) No, but I hope they will report the truth because this will affect my image. Just look at the hard work that went into 'Blade Heart' and you will see if I found it difficult." As for how many shows Liza has signed for a year, she says it is a secret and insists that for her external work, she will take leave from TVB and extend her contract accordingly and so it is nothing like the reports.

Liza Wang has been awarded the Silver Bauhinia star by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and to celebrate this momentous event, a great party was held on Sunday, totalling twenty four tables where Liza received congratulations from her countless friends. At the venue, there was a noticeboard, displaying the letters from well wishers, including many senior government officials including the Chief of Finance and the Chief Secretary of Education. Liza also received many gifts as well as a sign of boundless friendship. Liza's partner Lo Ka Ying kept a low profile, but when he was invited on stage to talk about his fifteen year relationship with Liza, there were many amusing stories as he also admitted that he had proposed unsuccessfully to her twice already, but he will wait patiently for the third attempt. He also openly criticised Liza, saying that her direct personality has upset many people in the past. However, seeing so many friends taking part in the celebration, it just proves that Liza is still loved by many.

At the event, Liza wore a red evening dress and diamond jewellery and Ka Ying wore a suit to match his eyecatching golden wig. Before the event, Liza said happily that regardless of being honoured, she has always worked towards her own goals and to receive the title proves that her hard work has reaped success. Afterwards, Liza cut a cake together with Andy Lau and Ma Fung Kwok who also received honours as Ka Ying showed his support for her off stage.

During the banquet, there was an opportunity for Liza's friends to go on stage and talk of their feelings towards her and the comments were mostly highly complimentary about her professionalism to her work, all apart from Ka Ying's speech about her upsetting people, causing a few laughs and cheers from the audience in jest. Ka Ying says that in the fifteen years he has spent with Liza, there have been happy times and fighting times, but they have never thought about splitting up. He did think about getting married on two occasions, but now they feel a marriage certificate does not mean anything more. He says that when Liza was running for the legislative council, he had thought about getting married so that she could have the extra surname and be referred to as "Mrs Lo", but when she was not elected, he put this idea away.

Many of Liza's good friends made an appearance at the party to offer their good wishes, including Andy Hau, Hacken Lee, Alan Tam, Eric Tsang, Dodo Cheng, Isabella Kau, Margie Tsang, Chu Wai San, Shek Sau, Woo Fung, George Lam, Kam Kwok Leung, Chung Wai Bing, Nat Chan, Cecilia Wong, Leung Shun Yin, Cheng Yiu Tong, Mui Suet Si and Andy Hui. The gala was entitled "A Multitude of Stars Watch Over Liza Wang" and was hosted by the golden MC himself Philip Chan.

Andy Lau took time out from his busy schedule especially to take part, but left before the banquet. On stage, he told of his admiration for Liza and dhow he has known her for twenty years, but has never worked with her formally. He said that they both appeared in the series "The Lady Yang Warriors", but his character died in his first scene. When Liza heard this, she was rather surprised because she probably did not remember this. Andy said: "At the time, I remember seeing Liza working hard to practise her moves with the spear and still holding onto it when it was dinner time. I feel that she is like the light in the deepest ocean and totally admire her great efforts." Andy also told of the time when he was hosting the finals for the New Talent Singing Awards and as he was quite nervous at the time, he misread the judge's name and was quite unnerved. As one of the judges, Liza immediately said to him: "It's okay, don't be scared and give your best!". He says that although they have never acted alongside each other before, they have met many times during variety shows and he feels that her hard work has never faded over the years. He hopes to have the chance to film opposite her and will definitely offer her any suitable scripts he comes across. Having been named himself in this round of Government honours, Andy says that Liza and John Woo have contributed so much and are therefore worthy choices and to be able to receive his Medal of Honour alongside these two great people is especially memorable. He is currently rehearsing for his forthcoming concert, so he will not be celebrating just yet. Together with Alan, Hacken and a producer, Andy has presented Liza with a crystal ornament, each putting forward a few thousand dollars.

Dodo commented: "Liza said to dress up well for the event, but it is not a show and I cannot outshine her, so I chose to wear black so I don't steal the limelight. Also, the photographer tonight is a present from Isabella, me and some friends so that she can share the memories of the evening with her fans." Kam Kwok Leung gave Liza a handmade Brazilian scarf and praised her for being very serious about her work, but learning to see the lighter side of life after meeting Ka Ying, laughing she should keep up the good work. Hacken says he lives quite close to Liza and are true neighbours, so if she has any problems with her audio-visual equipment, he will drop by to help her fix it. He laughs: "I am often at her home 'gau gay' [Cantonese: fixing machines - literally 'being gay'.] so I am her 'gay' man. Whenever Liza makes dumplings or buys lychees, she will call me over to help eat!"

When Cheng Yiu Tong heard that the rule is she cannot receive another Honour in the next five years, he laughed that Liza will have to carry on working. Eric Tsang was late as usual, but he praised Liza for being so faithful and dedicated, always ready to stand by her beliefs and speak her mind.

Liza Wang and Myolie Wu were filming for new series "My Sassy Mother-in-Law" yesterday and they had to do some graceful steps for the scene. Myolie laughs: "I am not very good at shaking my bottom, so I am afraid I will not do it properly, but luckily Liza has a dance background and she says I have passed, so it should be OK. This scene tells of Liza, who plays my mother in law thinking that she will catch me having an affair, but it is all a misunderstanding and there are a lot of laughs." Liza says that she has been busy preparing for her concert, filming and preparing for James Wong's memorial speech, so she has not had enought sleep.

[Ta Kung Pao 08/12/04]

Liza Wang, Myolie Wu, Bosco Wong and Chan On Ying were filming in TVB City's ancient street for "My Sassy Mother-in-Law" in a rain scene. The story tells of Myolie angering Liza's mother-in-law character and is punished by making her kneel in the rain. She is joined by her husband in the show Bosco and when Liza sees the loving couple getting soaked in the rain, her heart is moved a little and she lets them both off.

Although the weather is not very cold, Myolie still made sure that she had plenty of clothes on underneath her costume and after several takes, Bosco made sure to drink the ginger tea prepared by the crew to warm up afterwards. Myolie says: "It was actually a lot better today already, yesterday we had a scene where I had to jump into the sea and that was even worse because I had to wear a diving suit underneath." When Myolie chatted to the reporters, Liza passed by and said laughingly: "If you argue with me, today it is rain, tomorrow it will be faeces!" Myolie praises Liza, saying that although she does not film many comedies, she is full of life when she does it, especially in a scene earlier where Liza and Shek Sau had to film a scene depicting them meeting 20 years earlier and Myolie says it was very good.

Bosco did not wear anything under his costume yesterday, so after every soaking yesterday, the crew would help him dry off with towels: "I don't understand why how I got so wet with an umbrella. I am so dumb!" As for whether he has turned up late for filming after working with Liza for several sessions, he smiles: "Of course not! However, on my first day of filming with Liza, it was very scary. (Did she scold you?) No, she actually pointed out my lazy pronounciation and taught me how to speak properly."

Myolie Wu and Liza Wang were filming for "My Sassy Mother-in-Law" yesterday on location in a scene where Liza pretends to be paralysed to make Myolie carry her down the hill. Although Liza weighs only 108 lbs, but for Myolie who had to carry her and speak her lines whilst walking, she found it quite difficult: "It was pretty hard work! I have had an extra meal today to make sure I have enough strength!" After the walk, Myolie then had to record some panting sounds and when Liza heard her, she laughed: "It sounds like you are constipated!"

Afterwards, Myolie indicated that Liza is actually quite lite and laughs that she is very much in character during filming. When asked what she would do if that was not Liza, but Lydia (Shum), Myolie replies immediately: "If it was Lydia, then you would need to book me a body double! Filming with Liza has been very happy, but we always have to argue and shout at each other, so my voice has become rather hoarse!" Myolie also praises Liza for being very eyecatching, saying that she will win the award for "My Favourite Female Lead Role" next year, to which Liza responded: "Don't be silly! She is just encouraging me!"

[The Sun 27/12/04]

'Big sister' Liza Wang and Myolie Wu play a mother and daughter-in-law in the new series "My Sassy Mother-in-law" and it would appear that they are taking it in turns to have tricks played on them in the story by the scriptwriters. With Myolie earlier having to endure being drenched and then carry Liza up a hill, this time it was Liza's turn and on Christmas Day too! The scene tells of Myolie pretending to be a sedan chair carrier and together with some ruffians, they make Liza, who is sat in the chair, rather dizzy. Liza seeks her revenge by chasing Myolie down the street, but she has a bucket of dirty water thrown over her and is mocked by people in the street.

Before filming, Liza seemed rather relaxed and joked: "Whoever wants vengeance can have it (throw the water) now!" Finally an experience crew member was given the task and the scene was completed in one take, but Liza was left with vegetable scraps over her and water in her eyes and nose, looking rather miserable in her drenched costume. After filming, she did not even bother with any interviews and rushed into the dressing room to get changed.

As for Myolie, she says: "In this series, there are many scenes where we are battling against each other. Just yesterday, we had a scene where we were slapping each other and at first I did not dare to hit Liza, but she told me to do my best and it was okay." Working with Liza for the first time, Myolie says that she feels a lot of pressure and adds: "Liza is very serious about her work and I must learn well from her. (Are you very afraid?) She is actually very nice, for example on Christmas Eve, she brought three turkeys into the studio to share and it was a lovely Christmas atmosphere."

when the news broke earlier that Law Ka Ying was suffering from the third stage of liver cancer, his friends around him were very concerned. Now Ka Ying is resting and facing his illness optimistically.

Ka Ying's partner Liza Wang was filming yesterday at TVB City for "My Sassy Mother-in-Law" and when asked about him, Liza said that she did not want to say any more and asked the press to give Ka Ying a little space so he can concentrate on getting better. She says: "Please don't disturb him, usually he has a good relationship with the media, so please don't follow him around. He had to go to the doctors today and there were still reporters following him." When Liza was asked if she was worried about his condition, she says that there is no point in worrying about these things. At the moment, the only thing to do is to work with the doctor. When it was mentioned that Ka Ying had earlier joked about Liza not making him any soup, she immediately responded: "I don't have any either! He has his family to look after him."

Christine Ng only found out about Ka Ying's condition after reading about it in the press and she says: "I have great admiration for Liza, she has not been affected by this and Ka Ying is very strong and determined. Although he is suffering from the third stages of cancer, I believe that with the current advances in science, he will recover." Christine indicates that she has a body check every year because it is easy for women to develop problem with their breasts. If you are always unhappy then it is easy to become ill, so the most important thing is to be optimistic and happy through each day.

TVB announced its ratings yesterday for last week and "Wong Fei Hung - Master of Kung Fu" maintained an average of 30 points. The finale of "Shades of Truth" pulled in an average of 29 points, peaking at 31 points. The premiere week of "Jewel in the Palace" reached 25 points and Saturday's "Miss Chinese International Pageant" only pulled in 24 points.

My Sassy Mother-In-Law (Translated title)
Producer: Kwan Wing Chung
Script: Choi Suk Yin, Leung Yan Dung
Cast: Liza Wang, Myolie Wu, Bosco Wong, Christine Ng, Shek Sau

Synopsis:
In the Qing Dynasty, there was a bossy princess (Liza Wang) who married into a noble family, but still exerted her influence. Whilst choosing a wife for her son Mau Chun (Bosco Wong), she accidentally marries him to Tin Lik (Myolie Wu), who is the daughter of a gang leader. Thus begins the battles between mother and daughter-in-law with the son stuck in the middle, having to win the affections of his wife as well as keeping his mother happy, playing the sympathetic one. However, he is actually a great martial artist who is hiding a secret from them all. What is this secret? And what will happen to the rowing duo? You'll have to wait and see....

Liza:
"I haven't filmed a comedy for a while now and this series was quite interesting. When they designed the characters, they let their imaginations run riot and I am always being sprayed with rice and water. The character is actually much like myself and is very bossy, but actually she is very direct as well. I hope the audience will both love and hate her!"

Bosco:
"The best thing about the show is Liza because I have never seen her so bossy. On the other hand, her character also has some very feminine qualities about her and it is this soulful inner acting that is great to watch."

Myolie:
"The deepest impression for me was filming an argument scene with Liza that lasted three hours. We were both very absorbed and the lines were very piercing, so after we finished, everyone gave us a round of applause."
