I speak cantonese and im learning mandarin. I find mandarin sounds better only if its a young adult woman 18-30 ... I find mandarin sounds really feminine and cantonese more masculine.. so naturally i think cantonese sounds better.

im the opposite of you and i find it ok. i gues it's cos both are kinda chinese, so it makes picking up the other one faster and easier to understand, comparing to a caucasian learning to speak an asian language, get wat i mean? maybe we shd teach each other lol

lol mate theres regional accents for canto too. i myself speak one of them... its a lot different to normal canto. heres an example... you say "tou" in canto for "head"... but people from hoi fong (dunno eng name) say "tou hok" (as in head shell lol)... and when you say "lei yao mo zho gong fo" for "have you done your hw", they say "lei mo yao zho gong fo"... all with different accents of course.
anyway, i prefer mando over canto even though im canto. mando just flows better lol and the words are interconnected.. sounds kool lol.

personally i can speak both but i think dat mando is better than canto because first of all it's the first language speaking in the world, then when we hear someone speaks mado it's very fluid whereas canto is harder 2 speak it quickly and finally i think dat chinese songs are better than cato songs

I speak mando, canto and taiwanese. i dont have a preference among them. It depends on which one does your community speak about. If they speak canto, then you re gonna speak canto. It they speak mando, then no choice you re gonna follow. so i have no preference. My hope is all the chinese people can be united and speak ONLY one dialect (either one of them will do).

I prefer Cantonese mainly because I cannot speak Mandarin well

If I were to speak Mandarin, I prefer to sound more like those from Taiwan rather than too localised type of Mandarin.

I speak both canto and mandarin. I think canto sounds better cause I think that it sounds more natural. Jokes are much funnier in Canto than Mandarin. But I prefer songs in mandarin especially love songs cause they are more emotional.

I speak Cantonese and Taishanese and trying to learn Mandarin. Overall I like Cantonese's expressive taste. Mandarin is too simplified in my opinion but it's good to know when you want to speak with non-Guangdong people.

Funny that you say that because Actually Canto is more like the orginal Chinese Language
i can speak both, but i'd choose cantonese mainly because i'm better at it. plus, there's more slang. and mandarin sounds polite to matter the content, which annoys me

i speak cantonese but its not like i prefer one over the other. i love speaking in my broken mandarin too. hahahaha. i'm trying to learn more mandarin from watching TV and music.
but i'm glad i knew cantonese first because cantonese is harder to learn then mandarin imo. cause for me to learn mandarin isn't so bad. but for my mandarin friends... its harder for them to learn cantonese.
and i don't think either is more rude sounding then the other. its just that cantonese speakers can be a little bit louder. i hate it when ppl compare cantonese to vietnamese though. they sound nothing alike.

there is no difference of what's better or not... just for particilar stuff

Thats no suprise. Mandarin was a lanauage of the Courts back then. Cantonese called themselves Tang Ren. Tang Dynasty was one of the most cultural periods of Chinese civilization.

I speak Cantonese and some Mandarin but I watch shows in both languages. I would say I prefer Cantonese because I understand it more and also because it's easier for me to speak. But maybe that's just because my Mandarin isn't really good.

I like Canto better than Manderin. I speak Canto and umm understand Manderin but can barely speak it. I attended Chinese school for about one and half years but I quit. I wasn't that interested in Manderin. I was more into Canto. I already knew how to speak Canto, but I wanted to learn more, like study poetry, philosophy, etc. in Canto. I didn't really see a point in studing Manderin. That was such a long time ago though.. I was around 7-8 years old.. now I kind of regret quitting because I could've learned how to read chinese. I could've translated things myself.. Now I only know the basic words to reading and writing chinese.. I wished i stayed...

I like Cantonese, I guess because it's the only one I speak/know. It seems more expressive than Mandarin. I can't understand Mandarin at all, and the only thing I really know how to say is, "I don't speak Mandarin." ^^;;
They tried to teach us Mandarin in Chinese school, but I just never picked it up. maybe because I just don't like the sound of it and all that slurring.

I like mandarin (non beijing accent) for its flow. It's also very melodic, in my opinion. But I prefer cantonese because it's just so fun! the slang and the swearing, makes the language so much more....... descriptive!

I like Cantonese better, but I think Mandarin is easily to learn, since they have the translations in english teaching you how to say the words. But I think that many words in Mandarin sounds very similar, and it's easy to say something else than what you really wanted to say.

I like Mandarina since sounds better. I speak both I think Mando. sound much better the Canto.. Also there is a major different between the two you could write with the Mando. but not Canto. Since Canto. has a lot of word you couldn't find in the dictionary. Cantonese is much more difficult to learn they have more tone in the languages.
