Out of all the series we have watch this series in 2008, don't you guys think "The Seventh Day" was like the best series of the year so far? I mean TVB has aired "War of In Laws II," "Surivor's Law II," "The Gentle Crackdown II," "Wasabi Mon Amour," "The Master of the Tai Chi" and currently airing "D.I.E." I think out of all these series, "The Seventh Day" has got be the best one. Second, would come "The Gentle Crackdown II." "TSD" is a very anticipating series, as we want to know Niki and Kevin's ending. We want to know is this ending is going to be a tragic one like "Hard Fate" or a happy one like "Under the Canopy of Love." I think Niki definitely was the best leading actress in this series. Her crying scenes were awesome. You can really feel the pain inside her. I mean when she cried, I cried along with her. Also, I have to say that this role as Ah Yan for Niki was pretty challening. In the beginning of the series she was a happy-go-lucky type of person where she is awalsy happy and always wanting to find her prince charming and have a unforgettable love relationship with the man she loves before she turns 35, but then as the series progresses in episodes 15-20, Niki undergoes some situations that you can really tell that her performance in this series was outstanding. Next, Natalie really improved in this series. She was more natural in this series. The storyline in this series was pretty good too. One story was talking about a sad love story between Niki and Kevin and on the other hand it was a happy love story between Natalie and Bosco. Kevin and Bosco in this series was pretty good. It was pretty interesting to seem two different people born on the same day can lead into two different lives. The funny thing is that I just noticed after watching the series is that Kevin and Bosco had very few scenes together whereas in "Under the Canopy of Love" they shared a lot of scenes together.
What do you guys think? Would you guys agree that "The Seventh Day" is the best serious out of this year so far?

The best series in the sense that I have not been so engaged in a TVB series since Heart of Greed. I was emotionally attached/engaged with TSD and the lovestory of Ah Wing/Ah Yan. I haven't cried watching a TVB series in years! The chemistry between Kevin and Niki was amazing; their lovestory was so passionate and romantic, I almost forgot it was "pretend" =P TVB needs to produce these type of series every now and then =)

I think the series is great but not enough to earn the best series. In terms of character development and the storyline, I still think "Tai Chi" has a pretty good series. It all depends on what kind of series you like.
But I'm telling you this series will not win Series of the Year at TVB awards ceremony because the ratings is too poor.

I don't know if it's the best series, but it's definitely the most refreshing one for me!
Been ages since I've enjoyed a series so much as well.

hmm. i don't even think this series is good at all. it's kinda like 2 separate stories without anything to keep the viewer drawn in. i'm kinda bored of this series to be honest.

I think this series gained some popularity was mainly because of the Characters that were chosen for this series. Kevin/Niki , Bosco/Nat were good choices for the younger generation audiences I thought....

I would have to disagree.
So far in 2008, by far, Tai Chi is the best series with acting, story, character development, and aesthetic values. They took pains to develop each character and the cast is superb down to the supporting actors..Derek Kwok, Lau Kong, Paul Chun, etc.
After that would be "The Gentle Crackdown 2," which surprised me with where the story went. It got a good mix of fun humor and drama.

The Seventh Day is the WORST series in 2008 I've seen so far. No wonder for the crappy ratings and I'm for once in HK. Such a waste of time to follow.
Thus far, I'm most impressed with SL2.

I cannot agree more with
themissingpiece here.
My vote goes to
The Master of Tai Chi and
The Gentle Crackdown 2.
I won't comment on TMOTC since I'm a Myolie/Raymond fan to begin with, so I'm probably being biased here.
But TGC2 - wow, I was so pleasantly surprised after watching the show - it was absolutely great. If Wayne Lai is to win an award this year, it'll have to be for this series. He was amazing as usual, but he added so much more to what could've been just a mediocre series. Lau Ka Ho is smart to base the series on the aleady well-established chemistry between Steven and Wayne.
It's a pity both series aren't/didn't pull in great ratings, because they certainly deserved higher.

Nope Seventh Day is not the best for me, not even close, I believe that series is the most anticipated and was somewhat a disappointment, you can tell by the ratings. It did not reach past 30 points until the last week. I thought Survivors Law 2 was good and WOIL2 was good too, those two are so far the best I saw for 2008. D.I.E is pretty good too. Like J-star said, I have not seen a good decent series since Heart of Greed, which I find is the best series I have seen so far.

Mar 21 2008 8 32 PM
well, so far it's DEFINITELY the best series of 2008 ==""
Survivor's Law II I liked, but seriously not what I was hoping for towards the law stuff ==
War of In Laws II was hella disappointing..especially the end. The end pretty much wrecked my WHOLE image of the WHOLE drama already. Since I already didn't like Myolie in it...therefore... yea.
Wasabi Mon Amour? UGH. Well..Not too bad..but it got annoying at some point. And it was one of the series I took it slow with.
Gentle Crackdown II..didn't even bother watching it...I heard it wasn't too bad...but the cast screwed it up for me.
Tai Chi...I was hardly paying attention in the first episode...plus the plot sounds really boring..but I'm going to watch it anyway, but I think I will still like The Seventh Day a lot more than Tai Chi, since the cast doesn't even interest me there.
D.I.E...well I actually REALLY like D.I.E, but if 7th Day is better or if DIE is better, since I only watched like 9 episodes of DIE. However, so far I'm REALLY liking it, however...I might like 7th Day better cuz of the cast. But who knows. ^^
ANYWYAS, Conclusion: Yes, so far, The Seventh Day is the best series so far! It has quite a new type of storyline for TVB. I'm SO FREAKING SICK of those ancient series where people take revenge, and fall in love, and then somehow have to separate..ladeadadadaaaaa.... I admit, TSD has some parts that are similar...like...having to break up, but seriously, I think it's the most refreshing plot so far. WOIL2 was just a copy of Devil Wears Prada...well actually those HK "see lai's" probably don't know; since some hardly watch American movies. But the ending wrecked it for me..like I said. Too rushed. And got kinda repetitive at some point. Modern series...well...same stuff happening over and over again..just different focus.
But I highly doubt TSD can receive an award =="" the ratings were so low... >< don't even know if it will be nominated. Plus...I think Gem of Life is airing this year or something? A lot might lose to that. Hopefully though....

I thought the seventh day was good and refreshing but it is definitely not the best series of the year. I think that honor has to go to MASTER OF TAI CHI. haha, I am definitely liking Vincent/Melissa pairing here and I think its a very exciting series in that the plot moves quite fast and does not drag and the martial arts is wonderful. Also, its nice to see a fresh face/pairing lead a series for once instead of all the same old pairs.

hkangel, I like ppl agreeing with me. LOL
Yeah, how great was TGC2? I heard so much negativity because Yumiko replaced Niki..but seriously the ppl who bashed the series, have you actually watched it? Because the story, the acting, the characters in TGC2 excels far past the original. Definately 100% agree on Wayne, can I just say WOW! His acting has always been great, but it was just blinding how great he was in TGC2. The serious turn the sequel took in the latter half was really gripping. Plus, the characters are more realistic in the sequel. While Yumiko might not be as established as an actress as Niki, Yumiko had some charm in TGC2

And I would say I enjoyed Yumiko's performance in TGC2
more than Niki's in TSD.
I felt like Niki's acting was wasted in TSD. It's hard to buy Niki as the naive, innocent, and at times annoyingly immature girl after she's been acting for some time. It's not Niki's acting..I think it's the way the character's written.
As for the ratings, actually I think that both TGC2 and TMOTC are doing quite well. TGC2 aired during CNY period, a "throwaway" period and managed to not dip to like 24 and under? I believe it got over 30 at one point. That's pretty darn good for it to manage that. And TMOTC, considering it's ancient..and is doing on par with TSD..without receiving as much promotion..it's doing fine!
But yeah if Jewel's Splendor is released this year..then my vote will likely switch.

I think I'm most impressed with SL2 because I had no expectations for it since SL was so good. But Kenneth and Ella chemistry really made an impact for me and it's one of those rare sequels where I thought I'm glad they made a sequel (though Sammul's storyline was pretty bad which dragged the series down).
Tai Chi has a good storyline but because they mix mainlander artist with HK artist, I don't like the dubbing of voices. Plus I have to admit by this late into the story, I finally have to agree with people around me watching in HK that Myolie is too exaggerated with her acting. Her crying scenes are over-dramatic. She's bawling like crazy even over tiny matters, sound worst than her father dying. If only she relax a little because it really affects her chemistry with co-stars. Everyone appears 'wooden' next to Myolie because of her exaggerated expressions. I also felt disappointed because they rushed with the 'side stories' of Tai Chi like Yoyo/Derek's relationship.
It's too early to tell which series is the best of 2008 but atm, it appears DIE seems to be doing very well with audience's response thus far, esp impressed with Mimi's supporting performance.
Personally, I am looking forward to the most with Salt Traders.

As much as I was enjoying TSD, I disagree that its the best series.
Frankly speaking TSD was quite draggy, especially with Kevin and Niki's scenes. Some of the events are unnecessary and felt like it was forced to be there.
Niki's pretty and looking good, but her abundance of crying scenes here didn't really look that natural, although its better than Myolie's exaggerated crying in Tai Chi.
Why did I still enjoy TSD? It was because of the unexpected sweetness of Bosco and Natalie pairing which hooked me up. I really like watching them and they made TSD become a nice series for me to watch right until the end. Only my opinion of course

Ths series is not as good as i thought it would be. I didn't like the characters and the plot in this show. I think its too slow and boring most of the time. It's too much of Kevin and Niki all the time. They are always together in TVB series and shows.

i wouldnt consider the 7th Day to be the best series of 2008.. even though i enjoyed it (better than UTCOL) but i dont think its the best... i really enjoyed SL2 and TGC2... which was surprise since both series didnt have the original cast but the storyline its self was captive.. and Wayne in TGC2 just did it for me.. such an awesome actor... and now im watching DIE.. another great series.. but have to finish watching it to make a final judgment.. but there are still plenty of good series yet to air in 2008...

i think it was a good series indeed, natalie and bosco wer so cute, and natalie can finally oneof the main chars. but i didnt like the story between niki and kevin ~ it was too typical, easy to predict wat happens and somehow reminded me of 'one litre of tears'. i really like the fact that they show how 2 ppls lifes can be different at the same time, therefore, i agree it has been the best series, So Far.

AGREED! There hasn't been a good series like Seventh Day in a while, some people say its boring and stuff but when I watched it, especially the last few episodes, it became very emotional and yet the comical Bosco/Natalie story balanced it very well to relieve some stress. Nevertheless its a really touching series

Seventh Day was indeed one of my fav series of 2008 .. Sad, lovely, funny drama. Acting was all good and enjoyed KN scenes =) It was something very different from what I've seen from TVB .. I enjoyed the series while it lasts .. But it's not deserving the title of 'the best series of 2008' (so far none of the series deserve the titl .. )
Though I do have high hopes for D.I.E to be one of the best series!
it's really an interesting, funny and 'real' series. I enjoy the performance from the whole cast .. I never imagined Roger&Sonija to look nice together, but I guess it also takes good acting. I can see Sonija is improving even more.
(though I do think the best actor in D.I.E. is actually Derek Kwok. ^^ Im loving his role)
So after D.I.E. ends I might say it's the best so far

(Hopefully they won't have a rushed ending .. Gosh .. the TVB endings these days =X)

I think it is one of the better shows in the year 2008 but it is so sad. I think it should have had a happy ending for sure, but it is so sad to see niki die, it is so sad. But i think there should be other series that should be pretty good. BUt niki and kelvin do make such a cute couple and i hope that there are more series with them or maybe try pairing niki with someone else like raymond lam, or bosco wong too.

Kevin and Niki's relationship in TSD was indeed sad and memorable and the scenery was beautiful but I certainly wouldn't say it's the best series so far....
Yes this series could be a typical tragic/romantic series which TVB rarely film but I don't think it's all that great except WingKei's love story

The rest of the plot was blunt and boring.....well that's just my personal opinion

The Seventh Day was okay but personally it's definitely not the best series out of 2008 so far.
Kevin and Niki have good chemistry like in Under the Canopy of Love but I liked Natalie and Bosco's story more - they made a more interesting couple. I like how they used the concept of two people born on the same day with completely different lives. Overall I did get bored by the series a lot, and I don't feel compelled to ever watch it again.
