wow, considering there's only 10 days left till the airing of the drama, yet ATV hasn't put up a homepage for the drama yet.

so typically atv, they suck in promotion stuff...
i couldn't find a summary but i think the serie is about a rich family and a woman want to marry a rich guy and some revenge plot

looking at the promotion it was pretty much same stuff of what they had before. like central affair 2 and desire: a dream name leagend

yeah, rich family + revenge plot
but actually even tvb uses that theme a lot = drive of life, revolving doors of vengance, secret of the heart, ate, propbably gem of life too,...
conclusion: most big budget series are about rich people and a revenge plot

Rain Li and Winnie Shum compete at the premiere of ATV New Series “Flaming Butterfly”

Yesterday, ATV held a premiere show for the new ATV series “Flaming Butterfly”. The drama consists of 40 episodes but was edited to 75 minutes as a movie version just for the premiere. When the drama airs next week there will be a chance for viewers to win a car by answering questions after each episode. The lead roles are Michael Tong and Rain Li.

Winnie Shum and Rain Li competed in stealing the spotlight with their outfits. Rain wore a short skirt showing her long legs, while Winnie wore a low cut dress.
Rain Li told the reporter “To fully understand the storyline plot you will have to watch the unedited TV version which broadcasts next week. The edited movie verision also included my kissing scenes with Michael Tong”. Asked whether ATV had spent a lot on promoting this series? “That way more viewers will tune in to watch the series. I am happy that there will be more promotions and hope the ratings will be high”.

Asked if Winnie Shum had stolen the spotlight with her sexy dress? Rain Li replied “It is not necessary to expose yourself just to get into the news, but I don’t mind”. Winnie Shum then emphasized that she didn’t steal anyone’s spotlight.

I think people should give ATV a chance. Sure it's probably love-revenge-drama but heck, it's not like TVB can come up with anything better nowadays in terms of storylines. Just look at HOG. The script is crap and heavily repeated (if it wasn't for the cast, it's seriously not worth watching unless it's your first TV series).

ATV only film a small number of own production series per year so that means they pick out their script more carefully than TVB who rushes to film series after series. Central Affairs was pretty good before and the trailers for 'Flamming Butterfly' are pretty decent.

I'm going to give up watching A Journey Called Life to watch Flamming Butterfly since the timeslot overlaps. TVB needs a kick in the guts to bring some talent back into the industry and stop rigging those awards!

I like revenge plot and there are lots of veteran TVB actors, so I'll definitely watch it.

the cast of this series looks nice but why does atv always have to make the storyline very complicated.. i mean as in seeing the 'pictures of all those connections' made me think that the relationship between them must be really complicated, and atv always have to make it long. 40 episodes is quite long to me..ah well, i hope they are not draggy just like other atv series.

LMAO. People classify Kevin Cheng's themesong for <Life Art> as 'old-fashioned', I'm really curious about their reaction for this themesong. Has anybody heard it? It's a duet by Rain Li and Michael Tong. I have no words to describe it *_* - I'm absolutely speechless. It almost sounds like we're back in the time. It actually reminds me of those Wuxia themesongs sung by Adam Cheng back in the 80s' . Who composed this song?! It is definitely not as boring as <Life Art>. I'm wondering whether they intended to add those 'ancient' elements - especially that female vocale on the background? ATV is lost in time?! It almost feel like I'm listening to one of my mother's CDs T_T.

They were just commenting on the themesong...and I had to agree with them myself...a nice song, but if you were to just listen to it w/o knowing it was a theme song for a modern drama, you'd almost think it was for one that would have taken in a much more ancient time.

with CA they were on the right track, the script was good, catchy casting, pace of the story was fast, the camera angles they used were shot in a modern way...

but omg flaming butterfly is like back to 80's..., the casting isn't so strong
the synopsis of the story is a little bit cliché but that's not the big problem coz even tvb uses a lot of the revenge theme and rich families story
but the were a lot of boring scenes even in the first ep, if i was the director, i would cut some scenes out like the bicycling scene and the story around the little house in middle of nowhere
the story around the little house is so not realistic and childish
the bicycling is so oldfashion, the story takes place 10 years ago, i thought i was sth from the '60-'70...
the clothes michael tong wore on his first date with rain was so dull, they had cooler clothes in '90....
and the way michael tong caractere behave when he was lying in his bed and thinking about rain, he acted like he was 15 and rain was his first love
u don't have a puppy love behavior when u 're an adult who is already studying at college and probably had some gf's before

Themesong: Yes, it's awful but I think it's also Rain Li's singing style for this song. Michael's part was more ok but Rain's singing technique for her parts sounds like old-fashion singing.

Actual Drama: So far, I think it's going pretty good. I continuously change channels between 9-10 because of the overlaping time slots. The relationship map looks complex but nothing beats HOG2 relationship thus far...where all the siblings are somehow pairing off together and we try to work out whether there's some incest going on...

For a 40 episode series, I think complexity in the story is a necessary. Not to forget, this is a grand production from ATV. Love, family and revenge is also core to many storylines. Even TVB can't escape from these plots. What else can people think of besides these themes? The important thing is, how well they've crafted the plot and acted these out. My complaints about TVB nowadays is that their drama's are too 'simple'. TVB series are just very simple storylines packaged with TVB promoted actors. If it wasn't for these actors, who would think the storyline is good? Especially with something like DIE which I believe is only successful because of the cast chemistry.

'Flamming Butterfly' narrowing down to the actual plot has more 'depth' to it than the average TVB series. The casts here is half-decent and they are not cheap with the set either. I definitely prefer watching this than the cop and criminal one (a total asian cheap rip of Ocean's Eleven). If I hadn't watched a Journey Called Life for 3 weeks already I would have given that one up too.

anyway, i really liked CA so i think this is similar and may be good. nt a fan of rain but hey there is micheal tong ;D and seriously tvb has rubbish series now, its boring cast and boring slow plots. this looks much better. at least there is no fala.

The trailer reminds me of that TVB series Irene Wan was in, 'Vengeance'.

I'm really desperate to watching this series. Where do I got to watch it. I love Michael Tong and Rain Li. heheheh. Rain's acting seems to be improved and she looks so pretty. And of course, Michael Tong is in the lead, I've been waiting for a long time.

I really like Rain Li's younger sister in this series! She's pretty and fairly natural in acting- I reckon she's better than a lot of newbies coming out from Miss HK. Plus, she doesn't have mando accent (because she's a native HKer?) like those TVB promote like Fala, Vivien, Leanne etc... it gets pretty annoying talking with an accent. So I reckon ATV made a good choice to put her in this role. Probably get snatched by TVB some day but at least it was ATV who recognized her.

And the guy playing Micheal Tong's younger brother is reminding me of Ray's Oscar in Golden Faith. He's a decent actor but as a bit of 'lazy accent' (Lan Yum- in canto).

fungyifanatic: Michael's younger brother, you mean, Anson Leung? He and Rain acted as a couple in a series called Kung Fung Soccer, (Dicky Cheung and Joey Yung). OMG, he does look little bit like Raymond when his younger age.

I'm enjoying the series so far, probably I enjoy seeing Michael and Rain together, but some scenes are quite corny and so dramatic.

I reckon he should move over to ATV, film a grand production, make TVB think what they missed out on and perhaps being offered a salary increase to move back.

Actually, the more you listen to the themesong, the more you get used to it. Like HOG's themesong when I first hear it, I thought it sounded so old fashion too.

I think Micheal Tong surprised me the most. His voice actually sounds pretty good!

yea i first heard michael voice on fantasy hotel and i swear it wasnt him! his singing voice is totally different from his talkin voice.. same w/ this theme he sounds completly different from how he talks..

It sounds like anson~ lol so what if Fred isn't 'tall'? He's cute and can act! I'm sure there are suitable roles where you don't need to be tall. Damien isn't tall, Nick isn't tall etc...but I quite like Anson and Fred.

Yeah, Anson isn't tall either. He's like an inch shorter than Rain, or perhaps, she's wearing high heel. But anyway, I am really addicted to this series. Love it.

Honestly, I like Cherie and Michael, but they don't look siblings to me.

As for Rain's sister, I think she's a great actress too, but I don't think she's beautiful. Maybe the nerdy look and glasses cover her beauty. Still, I don't find her attractive.

i read on her blog that she was casted and they started shooting but she didn't like the role
she tought she was typecasted and argued with the producer
i don't know what happened after but i think they pulled her of
after that she took a long break from the entertainement industry and went back to the states
now she's still in the states and she often updates her blog

I can't wait for the ending either. I hope Michael won't cheat on Rain b/c it would break my heart. Btw, heard the ending that Michael is going to die, but he was kidnapped, and Rain didn't want to pay the ransom, so the kidnappers killed him. Is that right?

Not sure, need to wait for that! I just think in this series, Michael's character depends on women a lot. Firstly, it was his best friend for lending him money, giving him ideas to turn his business around etc... he seemed pretty clueless despite studying all those degrees. Then, Rain helped him out with finding him a client/business partner, noticed the takeover scheme and handled the situation. It seems like a lot of critical moments are helped out by women. I've heard ATV likes to make women the leading roles in their series.

it was initially 40 epi but was condense to 31.. if u hadnt noticed from around epi 20 it becaue an hr long each.. but im sure they cut some out too..

anyways i finished the series.. heres my thoughts..

yeah! i was wondering abourt the same thing. did he or did he not die? it look like rain is still alive at the end and michael was also live looking instead of like a dead fish. it's such a sweet pairing and i'm glad at the end, michael didn't cheat.
