Hmm...don't TVB have sequels and crime shows every year? But it's funny that no ancient series is being focused this year.
About the artistes, I think you have to count in not just the number of shows they are in but the quality of their appearances. Like Bosco this year is a bad year for him. Excluding TSD (which is filmed last year and supposed to aired last year), all of his other shows, he only have small roles. He have a guest role in HOG2 and he is behind big names like Bowie Lam, Moses Chan, Wong Hei in terms of male leads in GOL.
Selena too only have guest roles or small roles in her series. The only series that she is third female lead this year is "The Turbulence Of East & West 東關飄雨西關晴".
You should include Kenneth Ma in. Second male lead in "The Four" and "D.I.E" and first male lead in SL2, "Hidden Masters/Man In Charge" and "The Sound of Silence" and third male lead in "Tai Chi".

Yeah I'm surprised that you left out Kenneth Ma, he is like the most promoted actor with the most number of series this year, he's in at least 5 productions this year, we've been seeing him back-to-back from SL2 to Tai Chi to D.I.E. You can still see him now in "Strictly Come Dancing" and soon "The Four" will be airing.
To be honest, I think the themes listed this year are themes of any year in TVB. Cop/crime shows are always present as well as Family themes. And we all know TVB loves sequels, especially sequels which change the cast completely.

Look who they coaxed back to TVB to film: Anita Yuen (2 time Best Actress winner), Kathy Chow, Lee Heung Kam, Kent Cheng, Idy Chan (this one flopped). Then, many of the series are headlined by the veterans. Silver Chambers of Sorrows = Paul Chun, Nancy Sit, Christine Ng. HOG2 = Ha Yu, Lee Si Kei, Susanna Kwan. Gem of Life = Lee Si Kei, Ngok Wah. Housewife Stockgod = Kiki Sheung, Michael Tse. And if you look at the ratings of series headlined by the "new" ones, the ratings are not good --> The Seventh Day.
AND Wayne Lai finally gets to lead TWO new series. and one of them is with Sheren (!) and Kiki (gahh SO anticipating this one).

I disagree with Selena and Bosco. They have a bad year. Bosco has HOG2 and TGOL coming, but in HOG2 he's merely an extra or a guest star with no connection to the series plot. In TGOL Bosco is a small supporting role behind big names and CKY favourites like Bowie, Moses, Wong He, Eddie and Kenny Wong and the series is female oriented. Even next year in BF3 he still got behind Wong He, Kevin and Myolie. Its not that he isn't good, but it's just a bad year all around for him.
Selena doesn't have any big role even if she's in countless series. Her role in SL2 is pathetic and TC is small too. Even in her coming series JL2 she only has an extra guest role because she's busy filming another the third lead role for the ancient series with Liza Wang. Appearance in big screens? Her role must be really small then since I haven't heard of her unlike the way it goes with Linda, Kate and Fala's big screen moves.
Also agree Kenneth is having his moment this year. He got great ratings with SL2 and DIE and 'The Speech of Silence' that he leads with Kate will be released in late June(tentative schedule). He also gained a new fame in mainland China from participating in SCD2 and I heard rumours that TVB is under discussions to promote Kenneth more in mainland since he got so popular there after the dancing show. Moreover he still has the highly anticipated 'The Four' in store for later this year.

Hmmm...I haven't noticed this, but I do have to agree that this year there are a lot of sequels to the original series form last year or from years before. For exaple, "War of In-Laws II," "Survivor's Law II," "The Gentle Crackdown II," "Heart of Greed II," and "Fornesic Heroes II."
Also this year it seems like there are a lot of detective series too: Like "D.I.E.," "Catch Me Now," and almost releasing "Forensic Heroes II."
