Everyone calls Bobby a ratings guarantee..but I feel that Sheren is his female equivalent! Since Sheren's phenomenal performance in the now classic "War and Beauty," I have noticed that Sheren appears to be the new ratings guarantee. Series in which she is the lead does well ratings wise. And in this "new era' after the original fa dans, I don't think the same could be said of other actresses.

It could be argued that the ratings for DOL would weaken Sheren = ratings guarantee..but she wasn't the sole lead in that series and her screentime was noticeably less than Charmaine and Jessica.

IMO, Sheren is not only ratings guarantee but quality guarantee as well. LFD and TFL were both excellent series and got the audience buzzing with its plot points, especially LFD.

With her next series "Sharp Plans" co-starring the other ratings guarantee, Bobby, I don't see how it cannot be a ratings success. Then, she is set to film the new series with Wayne Lai as the male lead (can we say that is going to be a quality series already??!?)

It will be interesting to see how the unofficial sequel to TFL, <Moneymaker Recipe> (Kiki Sheung, Michael Tse) will do ratings wise without Sheren.

Sheren is THE female version of Bobby. I'm surprised that TPS could have such a high rating even though the storyline leaves much to be desired therefore I peg the reason for it's high ratings to Sheren. One thing about Sheren is that she has different characters in the shows. Like for example, her characters in TFL and LFP are totally opposite and yet she can pull off the characters so vividly that people can feel for her. Perhaps that's why people seems to love her and will always look forward to her series.

About quality, I'm not very sure cause artistes don't really control the storyline but she will always pull up the acting ability around her because she is so good.

Sheren isn't contracted with TVB so she should have a choice and picks and chooses her roles; therefore, her series are of higher quality. As for ratings, I think after War and Beauty people finally recognized her talent and started to watch her series because of her. Which is a different path than Bobby's, but nonetheless, anything that gets ratings is good.

You can expect the ratings to be good for the upcoming Sheren & Bobby collab. This isn't the first time they've worked together, so you can expect a ton of chemistry and if its a comedy...forget it.

I watched some of TPS and it really wasn't appealing to me, perhaps because of Adam Cheng. So I agree that Sheren is likely the one that raised its ratings.

Yeah, she gets to pick her scripts/dramas to film so that's why I think she guarantees quality as well. She has a very good eye for scripts, she picks VERY well written, complex female characters that are hard to find long and beyond anywhere but especially in TVB. Hilda, Ka Ka, and Siu Fun have nice development in each of their respective series. Plus, Sheren always mixes up her roles so it's never boring watching her. She can really play any character and truly inhabit the character.

Though I was puzzled why she didn't choose to do "The Charm Beneath," the role eventually went to Gigi Lai. It was a good solid series and a good character too, but apparently Sheren had a good eye, because the series underperformed in ratings..or would the ratings be better had Sheren taken on the role?

And she definately brings up the acting around her, Kate was really lucky to be able to work with Sheren on her debut series. Michael Tse has always been a good actor, but he started getting noticed because of the fabulous job and the great chemistry with Sheren in LFD.

It's just amusing for TVB who consistently deny Sheren the Best Actress award, by my count, she would have TWO already...that none of the actresses they chose to promote/push to "big sister" status has the ratings success that Sheren had (ie Gigi Lai, Charmaine Sheh).

I'm not sure how Sheren did career-wise during the 80s/90s, it's great that she's reaching another "peak" in her career at an age when many actresses are being written off!

The latest information that Sheren picks the scripts she wants to be in certainly raised my respect for her. The thing about Sheren is that her series never expected to do so well because they are small productions, especially TFL and LFD.

She didn't do "The Charm Beneath" because she have no choice? Did she really reject the show? I remember that the sales presentation for the show had her and that was before 2004 TVB awards. After the award was given to Gigi, the role suddenly switched to Gigi. Makes me suspicious that TVB gives the award and the role like a package. I'm watching TCB now and I think Sheren would have been so much better in Gigi's role. TVB will never give her the award cause she is not in TVB but the ratings for both shows are enough to show her popularity. I'm still wowed by her performance in TFL, she must have been the most adorable housewife!

Well Sheren series are usually considered the "small" ones, not ones that have many big names (take out TDOL), which in turn actually possesses the good scripts. Does anyone find it weird that she no longer works with Chik Kei Yi, the producer of WAB. You would have thought how productive their collaboration in WAB was..she would do something else for him. Or maybe Sheren was bored how the same cast is used over in TDOP and GOL?

Yea, it was Sheren in the TCB sales presentation. While I think that Gigi did a fine job in TCB, that actually made me like her after severely getting pissed that Gigi won Best Actress over Sheren. There's no doubt in my mind that Sheren would do just as well if not better. Sheren's never getting that award no matter how many great performances, but I don't think she cares anymore. If she did, she would have signed with TVB a while ago. Plus the audience and essentially every media outfit BUT TVB during WAB gave the Best Actress to Sheren. And the ratings and reviews for her series is enough for Sheren to silently stick it to TVB execs.

haha, Clesias, while I liked TFL, I liked Sheren in LFD more. Her performance as Hilda wowed me. The character was fierce with some vulnerabilities. It's just the character of Hilda I liked to watch more than Ka Ka in TFL. Characterwise, I liked Kiki's and Cecilia's characters more.

Another thing is comparitively, Sheren series get wayy less promotion. HOG got tons of promotion to get those ratings that actually came in THIRD in 2007. TFL got "lost" amidst the supposed "HOG Craze" and yet..the ratings winner was..enough said.

I think Sheren is a ratings guarantee. I mean every series she star in like Bobby, the series always get good ratings. What I can't believe is that "The Family Link's" ratings beats "Heart of Greed." I always thought "HOG" would have gotten better ratings but "The Family Link" beats it. Secondly I think Sheren is of good quality. I think she is a very good actress. She portrays her roles very well. Like in "La Femme Desperado," she portrayed as the career-oriented and talented woman. She was very good in there. Like in "The Family Link" she portrayed as the loving and caring mom and wife, she also portrayed that role very well too. But I think her acting was very well in both series as she has to switch the setting of the character very fast.

I think it's a good thing that Sheren gets to pick and chooses her roles and scripts. That way, you can actually guarantee hat she will get a good role.

Sheren is an AWESOME and talented actress. However, I don't think she's heavily promoted or even promoted compared to other TVB actress. She's not that popular but her acting is amazing.. And she got her award robbed in WOB. Sucks.. she can pull off any good role.

I remember MONDAY magazine once did an analysis of TVB series in 2007. It rated TFL as first or second best series and they were saying that looking at the cast, they never expected it to do so well, even better than HOG! (Actually I love it better than HOG cause it's so funny.) Sheren being in the past is a very big pull because she is really popular in HK. (The magazine also mentioned about Fala's sexy scenes which really cracks me up.)

I don't think Sheren cares about the award because she knows that she is popular with the audience and she actually cares more about the quality of the series, that's why she chooses to go with small productions.

I'm a hugh fan of Sheren. She is excellent at protraying the strong, independent and very self-sufficient woman, which can get quite repetitive. I would love to see her portray a vulnerable and weak character.

Ratings guarantee, yeah her name does have weight in raising tv ratings.

As for quality guarantee, let's just say, she knows the taste of Hong Kong TV audience very well, which may or may not reflect mine. I'll not automatically assumed that a series is good just because she's in it.

umm wouldn't you count her role in "The Family Link" as the weak/vulnerable housewife? It was as the story progressed, her character was forced to become strong and independent. And I would call that good writing and progression and growth for a character!

Well personally I found her to be a quality guarantee, because her series are quality. For me, LFD was most definately the best series that year in terms of story/characters/writing, Forensics Heroes did not come close. One featured character development while the other one was more a collection of cases and didn't seem to focus on characters, it was very CSI.

Again, I found HOG to be grossly overrated..for me TFL was better. But undoubtedly Sheren knows the HK audience's taste. And I think it's a pretty safe assumption that the Sheren + Wayne series is going to be GOOD.

Clesias, that's really weird that they say looking at the cast that they didn't expect TFL to do well! I think the cast for TFL is better than HOG. TFL cast is more solid in acting than HOG. TFL has Sheren (her merits don't need further explanation), Kiki, Cecilia (TWO time HKFA winner and loads more nominees), Michael, Derek, Ai Wai..essentially everyone who can act.

themissingpiece: You've found me out; newcomer that I'm to TVB series, I haven't watched LFL yet. (gulp!) Will definitely remedy my remiss.

Undoubtedly, Sheren has both star power (the numbers proved it) and screen presence. And her audience can rest assured of quality performance from her. But, imo, that individual quality cannot not be extrapolated into a series quality guarantee as the latter is too dependent on too many variables. Sheren may have an extraordinary eye for a good script, but the quality of the finished series is outside her control, and for that matter, outside any thespian's control; hence my reservation.

This is kinda hard to say. however i usually do enjoy series that have Sheren in them.

im so sure that before this series the public did not really pay much attention to series and also the anniversary awards. however due to this series it has provided an aim for many producers and directors who try and aim to make series like this one. it is hard to say whether the success of the series was by Sheren. In a way it could be since they tried to film somthing similar called DAnce of Passion with the same cast minus Sheren TAng and the ratings was not as good. but then Maggie was also not in that series. as a result it could be Sheren making the ratings so good.

Sheren filmed this instead of dance of passion. this was rather wise since the ratings in this series was a lot better and the outcome was better too. i loved this series and her character here was totally amazing.

again another great series. Sheren has proved that as well as acting powerful feminine roles she can also do housewife roles. if the sequel to this is not as good and the ratings are not as good then it can show that Sheren was the reason behind the success for this series.

Drive of life
This is a series that has Sheren TAng but the ratings were not as good as the ones mentioned. i dont really think this was her fault since she didnt really come out a lot. the series might do better if she had more screen time.

Adam Cheng is known to be "rating poison". his poisoning must have been stronger than Sheren's high rating powers. however she did a great job here too.

overall its kinda hard to judge whether she does guarantee high ratings but one tings for sure, Sheren's performance will not disappoint the viewers. she portrays her characters so well in all these series. I tink that even if the series are low the series is worth watching cos it has Sheren Tang in it.

Out of the four shows, the only one I haven't watched was Prince's Shadow. her shows are normally do really well, so naturally her presence in the show gives confidence to viewers.

i actually quite like the series that she has starred in. think they are all very good. rosy business has definitely proved that Sheren Tang is ratings guarantee.

My opinion: Shereen Tang + Wayne Lai = great ratings...it's so refreshing to see great actors/actresses like them (who came up the "right" way and have true acting talent) make it big....being a long time TVB series fan and watching both of them since the 80's (when they played alot of minor roles), seeing them succeed makes me so happy.

Shereen has definitely worked hard to get where she is today and she deserves all the recognition and love of the audience that she currently has. She is an excellent actress and very pretty too!

One of my favorite series of hers (from the 80's) is "The New Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre" (1986) with Tony Leung, Kitty Lai, and the rest of the awesome cast. This series proved that not only can she act well, she also looks absolutely beautiful in ancient costume (she never seems to age -- WAB from 2004 continues to prove this, as she looked excellent in there as well)...her portrayal of the character Zhou Zi Yerk was so memorable (she captured the character's struggle from good to evil back to good very well) that I ended up liking her character over Kitty's. Plus the character had a lot more layers that it allowed her to show her acting skills.....Ironically, in the 2000 re-make version of this series with Lawrence Ng (which I hated -- absolutely poor choice), Charmaine Sheh played the same character -- not even close to Shereen's classic performance (I hated the 2000 version overall -- the only "selling factor" to that series were Damian Lau and Michelle Yim)...

I am a big fan of Sheren Tang.

To say that she is a rating guarantine. I am not too sure about it. All her shows which garner great ratings are shows that focus on the interaction of women. War & beauty, la femme desperado, the family link and rosy business. It targeted the major group of audience in Hong Kong which is typically hooked to this kind of show. Shows like Drive of Life and the show she acted as a teacher did not prove to sell too well because it is totally unrelated to women.

A clear example to illustrate my point are dramas like Heart of Greed and Moonlight resonance. They don't star Sheren but the audience is still hooked between the fights that Louise Lee, Michelle Yim & Susanna Kwan. It garners the best rating even though the storyline may not be as enriching or well developed as rosy business, but the fights between the 3 of them is so much more exciting that the one Susan Tse & Sheren Tang has.

I think it is depended on the series. Although I had to admit that Sheren is a versatile and experienced actress in the acting field, but I will say it was the script writers who made the series more interesting. Of course not forgetting about the actors and actresses alone. I will say it depends.

i don't think any actor or actress can be rating gurantee...it really depend on the story and scrip as well. i mean tvb did try to put alot of big names into some of their major series thinking it will have good rating and not all of them do well..e.g. gems of life....the series 'your class or mine' with bobby and sheren also shows it as well. though i do love the lady..she still so pretty for her age.
