Why there are always sad endings in the recent TVB dramas?? They make the audience sad and rush as well. For example Master of Tai Chi and D.I.E, the endings are sad and pathetic.

I agree with Eliotyuhin99 that TVB is making such sad endings. Like in D.I.E. of how Roger had to die. Was it really that necessary to have Roger die in that series. And also for "Catch me Now" why did Damain and anlso Johnson have to die. Also the question is, was it that necessary to kill them too. The endings to both of these series would be much happier if the main leads didn't have to die in the series.

Master of Tai Chi - after a long story about Vincent and Melissa's relationship, at the end they did not get together, pathetic and waste of time.

The ending to DIE was pathetic...I dun understand why TVB make Roger character die and then make another alternate ending which Roger character stay alive..what a waste of time...

the alternate ending of DIE is the worst ending I have ever seen, it is very childish and non sense

Yeah there are a lot of bad endings for example War and Destiny, you dont even know if that man came back in the end or maybe it was just molyie just seeing things, and the series with fala and joe, where that BT guy dies, I think ones with a sad ending or like an ending where you make assumptions are just bad

sometimes i think the sad endings are better than happy endings cause the sad endings are more memorable and maybe that's what tvb is going for
if everyone lives happily ever after you're like okay, that was nice
but if someone dies or the two people who are in love don't wind up together, you'll always remember it as being sad, not necessarily bad, cause sometimes life just doesn't give you everything you want

Sad endings hardly been accepted in the whole community, in HK, people asked for a happy ending if a good series have a sad ending, just like recently D.I.E. So what is the point of making the series sad at the end when most people want to see happy endings?

The worst part is they seem to always have a backup alternate ending like they know everyone going to hate most of their endings anyways.

I recall watching
Square Pegs a few years ago, and the ending totally sucked. The ending was like, akin to telling us there's no ending. Yeah it really really sucked.
And yeah, the backup ending, like they are asking us to make a choice or something. LFD also had a backup alternate ending. But I don't like D.I.E's ending, at all. Even the alternate ending didn't help.

Sad endings aren't really bad. I know majority people in HK only ask for happy endings but you can't have happy endings in every single series? That will bore the whole out of everyone and the story would be of much more predictable. I personally think that if there's a need for a tragic ending, then it better be or else the story won't be smooth. Actually, it usually depends on how the story goes.

actually if i think abt it, the recent tvb series such as DIE, catch me now, Master of Tai Chi all don't have good endings

Jun 8 2008 10 30 AM
I don't really think the endings of Catch Me Now or DIE were bad per se, just that they were sad and involved lead characters, and in BT's case, an audience favourite. I hated the fact that BT died, because he was definitely my favourite, but in a certain sense, it was progressive to the plot and gave much shock value to the series.
With that, I have to say that the alternative ending to DIE was one of the crappiest endings I've ever seen. It's on par with the lousy DD ending.
And yeah, the ending of Square Pegs was really bad too. I also really hated all the hanging endings by TVB to keep it open for a possibility of a sequel. Case in point - AR4 and AMOC. Those two were AWFUL.
I just might be the only one, but I didn't like the HOG ending either. I'd much rather have had the last scene of the series be of the Tong family, giving closure to the whole premise of the series, rather than just have Duk Duk Dei and Sheung Joi Sum running off into the sunrise together. Sheesh.

nowadays many of the series have dual ending.. one which the main char dies.. and the remake shots whr they stay alive.. it's kinda wasting time.. n the alternate ending for D.I.E was totally annoying where seem like they're playing ard rather then it's a real alternate ending..

D.I.E. comes to mind when I read the topic title. Didn't watch the alternate ending yet, but so far, this ending defeats the whole purpose of the series and didn't fit in with the rest of the theme. Everythig was goofy (for the most part) and suddenly they just decided to make it tragic. Everything was sooo rush. I thought "The Ultimate Crime Fighter" was bad already but when compared to this one, it was just "ugh". If they want to make it tragic or whatever, they need at least another episode to wrap everything up. 'Cause for the last 10 mins or so, it wasn't enough to wrap it up. It made the whole series a joke already (although it was a comedy for the most part). And they say Split Second's ending is really bad. But I thought it actually suits the whole theme since the setting was so morbid and dark from beginning to end so it actually makes sense. But this one is just out of no where. Enough said.

well i dun mind sad endings, b/c u cant always have happy ones..but then when it seems like it's expected that someone is gonna die..i think it's ridiculous
in The Academy it was such a shocker that Michael Miu had to die..this was sooo sad, and of course very memorable. i actually enjoyed this series despite that some of them could still improve on their acting. but then when it came for their sequel on the First Beat i think they just purposely killed of sonija just b/c they should have this "sad" sending. i didnt think it was necessary for her to die..i mean in the end, ppl seem happier, so why couldnt she live? i felt like since the first one a main character died, then the second one a person has to die too. i didn't like it and i thought it was pretty bad.

I don't find sad ending bad... it really all depends on the story. Like DIE for instant, the alternative ending is so stupid... I prefer the original ending where Roger dies! As for To Catch A Thief... I don't find BT die is bad.. it is sad but hey... it is more realistic!! Funny that everyone is complaining BT die but not Damian.. he also die in the series. Unless everyone choose the alternative ending where he didn't die as the ending. Anyway, I just wishes that TVB stop broadcasting alternative ending. If they choose a sad ending... let it be!!!

Sad endings are more memorable and keeps people talking about it. Case in point, this thread.

I don't mind sad endings as long as it's written well. I liked To Catch the Uncatchable's ending, because well, it followed what happened in the last case of the serie (with Dayo being hit in the head and he has poor health throughout the serie), so the ending I can buy even though it's a comedy serie overall....and it was actually pretty memorable. I didn't really appreciate D.I.E nor Catch Me Now's Ending. All it gave me was shock value, and in my opinion, not memorable nor remarkable enough for two of the top series so far in 2008.

THe thing is no point of making sad endings, no one will complain of happy endings without rushing, sad endings upset the audience and waste of time, which lead to alternate endings which suck

I think D.I.E ending was really sad. But the alternate ending was even awful.
Don't like it at all, just made me more prefer the real ending.
And I don't think Master of Tai Chi ending was terrible. I admit that I was sooo sad when Mo Ma and Song Ching didn't end up together and Mo Ma had to leave her but there's something that made me feel and convince that they, someday will make up and be together later on. Especially when Mo Ma went back to the village to see Song Ching.

I totally agree, what's up with TVB and their alternative ending, do they want to please their viewers that much. A story is only as good as it stick to their original plot, why change the ending to please everyone and make it a happy ending.

I hate open ending really..annoying.
Criminal investigator 2 - what happen after that. was they intending to make another sequel
Where the legend begin - we just see steven walking towards the water cause he saw a girl who look like ada and then they show the sense of the boat
to catch the uncatchable - lame ending and they have to waste time filming an alternative

haven't watch new seires yet. theres are not that's on top of my head at the moment.

I reckon a lot of TVB endings are bad in general.
Open endings - you really want to kill them for not giving you more.
Happy endings - All TVB happy endings happen too suddenly. Halfway through the final episode, everyone is still at the bottom of things and all of a sudden, by the end of that episode, everyone is happy and everything has solved. I just don't like how everythings so rushed.
Sad endings - Killing the wrong people at the wrong time? It's almost like they realise that their happy endings aren't working so they just decide to kill someone off to make it sad...?

To Catch The Uncatchable had a very bad ending
the whole show was so great but the ending kinda spoilt abit of it
Tell me about it. There is hardly any endings of TVB series that the majority of the audience is satisfied with. Devil's disciple? with Kevin Cheng and Bosco Wong, What was up with that ending? They just sang that weird song at the end? o_O Nonetheless, I don't mind watching them on my TV screen.

LOL thats a funny thing. i dont really like bad endings cos they practically spoil the whole show but i nonetheless agree with "What!!!!" that they have to change it to a sad ending for once. but just somehow, they choose the wrong serials to place a sad ending T_T
they should change not really good serials to having bad endings and really good serials with good endings. lol :D
TVB's trying to give it a comical ending for DD but it's really lame -.- It's NOT funny.
DIE.. they could have left it the way it is because it's STILL a TV show. It's NOT real. The 2nd ending spoilt everything.
And maybe I'm the only one who find the ending of FH2 really abrupt and hideous as well. What's with everyone running towards the front?

i actually like the sad endings. at least there's some sort of variety, even though you can tell whats gonna happen. not everything ends happily ever after. about the endings being rushed...well they've alwasy been rushed so i don't even care bout those rushed endings ne more.
if no-one has noticed, the alt endings always suck more way more then the one that they initially planned to have. i see it as the producers giving the hk public a finger for complaining bout how everyone lives happily ever after. just look at D.I.E for example. they made it look like one of those kindergarten programs. why? to shut up the hk public

I just hate alternative endings, I don't get what is the point of making 2 endings just to satisfy the audience why don't they just stick to watch they had from the begining so at least there is a point. I hate DIF IV ending but it makes sense because there is a point. TVB just make alternate endings when audience complaint, that is just pathetics.

I have to add Catch Me Now to my list. I haven't watched the alternate ending yet for this one so don't know. But the first one - although tragic was unnecessary and lame. So Jake/ Damian got shot by a security guard? That was lame. I rather he died from Evergreen Mak's bullet. And the fact that he dies makes it like everything he'd done is wrong. Yes, it's not the best way, but that was the main point in the beginning how people escaped the justice system. But having BT/ Johnson died and then him - uncalled for.

I dont understand chinese but i often sit there and watch them while my wife is watching them and there is always an annoying trend with TVB. At the moment someone always ends up in hospital, cancer or what not. Been a lot of running over. And always seem rushed in the end, with their usual HAPPY ending, every1 in a room laughing!!!!!!

Other bad endings I decided to add after my first post include:
Heart of Greed: I found it ridiculous how fast Susanna's character became nice again and how forgiving those kids were.
The Four: Wasn't necessarily bad, but it wasn't good either. it was too open ended and didn't give me any closure regarding the character's love lives (especially Selena and Kenneth's character..lol).

I have to agree with u, the four was kinda crappy at the end..it seemed rushed...like i know they are not followin the novels, but at least they could have 2/4 guyz gettin together...i mean with ron and cillia's character...they could of been together but instead
and also it was kinda crap where sam and vivi's character could sorta have a happy ending but
was a total let down with my hopes..seemin all 4 of the guys were comin together after triumph to the skies...and this time around they are in olden days

Nah, you're not the only one. I pissed myself laughing at the ending when everyone was running.........and Charmaine-she doesnt to emotions very well, didnt look like she was crying, didnt look like joy, looked like she was on the toilet doing a doo doo while having a heart attack. .....they were running to the hospital i think.......was bloody funny though.
Lots of TVB endings are terrible....the beginning drags like hell, then everything ends abruptly in the last episode, -people ge married, someone dies without us seeing or any explanation. I had high hopes for 7th day ending...all we got was one line saying ah yun died 5 years after having her daughter....didnt show anything, those five years with their daughter, how she died....would have made an amazing, teary and higher rated series.

Oh yeah, I agree....and also the MR ending was abit flat too...they all looked like they were morphed back to the 70's with their clothes, glasses and longer hair.......abit of a let down after a great series.
