http://img129.exs.cx/img129/6943/yangclan.jpgA new series which is airing in taiwan station now.
Cast:
Yang Ye: Di Long
Shu Sai Hua: Angie Zhao Ya Zhi
Yang Se Lang: Alec Su You Peng
Pan Yu Yan: Chae Rim
Yang Qi Lang: Yan Kuan
Ming Qi: Hu Jun
Mao Xiao Ying: Rebecca Wang Yan
Ever since I came to know about the different dynasties of China, Song has been my all-time favorite. When I watched the "Heroic Legend of the Yang Family" and "The Great General" (ATV) back in 1996, this was enhanced further. That is why when I heard that there will be a new series about the Yangs, I told myself that this is a must-see, especially if the cast includes the awesome Alec and the lovely Chae Rim, not to mention the Snake Goddess Angie Zhao Ya Zhi and the ever-so-adorable Rebecca Wang Yan! However, after watching said series, my point of view had changed.
The Plot:
The plot is the honest-to-goodness story about the Yang family and their undying loyalty to the country and its useless and selfish emperor. As always, the father, General Yang, is blinded by his loyalty that he is way too strict and wooden with regards to his treatment towards his sons and the mother, Sai Hua, being the only one who stands up for her children. In this serial, the family has seven children, all male. Each son was given their role but the majority of the story revolved around the fourth son, Alec Su, who is the rebel type because he is the one being scolded the most as he has his own ideologies. The story goes on as the family faces the war and one by one, the members faltered. I don't think that I should tackle much regarding the storyline as I believe that those who have read the real story of the Yangs will have more story knowledge than I.
Additional Information:
It was said that there were 2 versions of this series. The first version was that Se Lang will die and the second version was that Se Lang lives. The one I watched was the second version. I believe it is more advisable to watch the first one as it is the complete version! I also realized during parts where there are flashbacks that they cut a number of scenes, and I was disappointed because numerous Tsu Tsu-Qi Lang-San Lang scenes were cut!

I wonder what this version is about actually. This is because as I know the 4th son should be marrying the liao princess after the yang lose the war in gold beach where 4 of the son died in the war. but from here, it seems that alex have so many love affair even before the war started.

Nov 11 2004 10 41 AM
alex just had one love affair before the war here, he like the daughter of the Pan general, who also like him. when the princess of liao met him, she also fell in love with him. when Si Lang (alex) went to war for the 1st time, there he met the princess of liao, when he came back he heard that Pan Yu Yuan got married already (but she escaped from that marraige by letting their maid marry the liao prince but alex didn't know)

Then, what about the wife that he should have as in alot of yang's series? from here, it seems that his love interest will not be his official wife and this is another modification of this yang's series.

in this version it happened earlier, as in only the big brother has a wife, the rest is still single, from the looks of things, it seems like not all of them will die married, because the supposed to be partner of the 7th son died already, and i don't think they have put another character for him, unlike the other yang version where all of them had a wife...

I think in the previous series, the yang family have lost the golden beach war where almost the whole yang's male died in the war before he is married to the liao princess. He is supposed to married the liao princess when the princess save him during the golden beach war.

in the China version they cut out a lot of Alec and Chae Rim parts and the editing in general isn't too great so sometimes the story gets really confusing because you can tell there are major parts missing..it should have 40 episodes but now it's down to 36..in the taiwanese version, they keep most of the Alec and Chae Rim parts so it's better (well if you're their fan that is)...hope that helped

I heard that this happen before in taiji prodigy acted by dicky cheung where there is two different actress playing the same role for china version and hk version. It seems the reason is because of the number of china's actress that should be inside a china series production.

i'm not sure if it actually focuses on mainly one brother, but since they can make any part a leading role, they choose to do the 4th brother instead, alec's role, but i did hear alec was supposed to play the 6th brother, but decided to play the 4th brother instead.
apparently the china version only focuses on the history side of the yang family, but in the taiwan and singapore version it's mainly about the love side, Si Lang and Yu Yun.

I like this series very much overall. And I like most of the leads too, especially Alec. Below I will explain why I disliked or like each relationship in the series. I have tried to keep spoilers to mininum. However, there's no guarentee how much I revealed. If you wan't spoilers, please don't read.
However, I have to say that the romance between Alec and Chae Rim really really annoyed me. No offense to their fans, but I just can't stand them acting together as lovers. I suppose it's because their romance is too mushy and Romeo-Juliet like. I hate mushy romance and loath Romeo and Juliet even when I read it as the original Shakespeare play. My hate for Alec and Chae Rim's romance has nothing to do with the actors or their acting skills. In fact, I thought they were really good in portraying their character, especially Alec. It's the script writer who should be blamed. (Chae Rim's character was really odd too. It wasn't a well written character as her behavior in the beginning and the rest contracts itself.) I've outgrown this sort of romance that I found it immature and not convincing. Honestly, who in their rightful sense would disobey and be ready to do AYTHING, including ready to DIE, for love? (Don't hate me if you love this type of romance. Different people have different opinions and viewpoints on romance.) If it wasn't for Alec and his superb acting in every scene, I would have skipped all those parts.
In contrast, other brothers' romances were more digestable for me. Unlike Forth Brother's romance, we don't get to see their's long. None of them lasted as long as Forth Brother's either. However, their romance never once made me feel they are dragged and unreasonable. Third Brother's romance with Mao Xiao Yin was very cute. I loved their interactions with each other. I was sorry they met each other too late and part too early.
Fifth Brother's romance with Yi Yun was very subtle. They never openly admit their feelings to each other (at least not in the version I saw), but the actors gave enough through their eyes and movements to show hints. Personally I found it the most touching romance out of all the others. Like Forth Brother's romance, Fifth Brother's romance was not a possibility, as Yi Yun belongs to the enemy. But the way they conducted it was totally different. I think their way was much more convincing. The way their relationship ended was much more heartbreaking than Forth Brother and Yu Yan's many I-love-you-so-much-that-I-want-to-die scenarios.
Sixth Brother's romance with Chai Jun Ju was nothing dramatic. There was no love at the first sight, nor death attempting to seperate them. They were just an ordinary couple, who were friends when they were young and became more than friends as they grow up. There's nothing striking about their relationship apart from sweetness. But perhaps that's the best after all.
Seventh Brother and Chor Chor's romance was bitter sweet. I didn't like it much, personally, but it was acceptable. I guess the thing I hate most about it was the fact that Chor Chor met a horrible end, and that Seventh Brother wasn't very understanding. However, there is truth in this itself, as no one can really be that understanding in the situation they faced (trying not to reveal too much here).

I really wanna c this series! It sounds intresting. But if Alec and Chae Rim r in both the Mainland and the Taiwan version, whats the purpose of making 2 version aniway? It's just so... confusing! Wat's up with them?

Can't Mainland and Taiwan just get 2gether and plan out the series 2gether? It's practically just about the same. Only some parts cutted out. It seems 2 me lik Mainland is cutting scenes from alot of series. Mainly romantic scenes

. Why oh Why? The scenes they cut out from the series 'R' the scenes I want 2 watch!

But they still make GREAT series!!!!
