In the 90's, 2000, TVB has good actor. actress and scripts!

Right now.. TVB gone crazy promoting new actors and actress that have lack of experience of acting and they get to play the main role!
The audience knows it, but we dont care because TVB drama to us these days are nothing!
Some dramas TVB are rediculas boring..
like "speach of silence" promoting Kate Tsui....

was listening to Sandra Ng and Francis Ng radio interview on who series in TVB are really bad lately compared to before. i must admit that some of the things that they say do have a point. they were criticising the fact that actors and actresses are too scared to give suggestions and just act wot the script says rather than giving any of their own imput. as a result they have to force their acting skills. they think that the acting is usually done by words rather than by facial expressions. i think that they do have a point that series now are gettin kinda ridiculous and unreaslistic. some of the ideas are just so silly that people will not do those tings in real life.

It definitely dropped. The series that come out each year, the scripts are so so. For an anniversary series, Lush Field? (the one with Myolie being fat) was really bad. In the 90's all the actors and actresses gave you something to look foward to, I wouldn't mind seeing them series after series, but now it's just ridiculous, series after series it's either Linda, Myolie, Raymond, Bosco, or some other noob that can't act, I'm kinda glad Shirley is not in everything anymore.

Definitely. The difference is almost unbelievable to some extent. Remember the days when you rented video and it was just so good you couldn't wait for the next episode VS. nowadays when it's available on internet and you still don't have to look at it. Those classics you can't see anymore except treasure it as memories cause TVB isn't going to pull through it as it once did with superb cast, acting and a great script at hand.

I was just watching Cold Blood Warm Heart (strangely never saw it during its time of popularity) and a bit of HOG/MR and it couldn't even compare with it. CBWH was excellent with great casting and script - can't get better than that - even golden faith and ate1-2 couldn't compare. HOG/MR is boring with a bunch of talentless actors added with some returning veterans to boost rating, bickering with each other and happy ending? I mean c'mon, if it weren't for the veterans, did you actually think that HOG/MR would be a hit right now? To which I still can't believe the hype...

The sappy corny endings. OMG...don't get me wrong, I love happy endings but sometimes it ends some happy and teaching us morals. Yes Morals are important but they don't call it drama for any reason. Dramas these days lack elements to make it interesting.

also, as for ancient dramas. They use to be the bomb in the 90s. for some reason, its been degrading prob. because they couldn't make it from any wuxia martial arts?

detective case series, I'm not sure but the recent ones forensic heroes or D.I.E is good cause I'm a big fan of cases. But wasn't as good as DIF with the drama, a dose of comedy and excitement.

lawyers. Similar to detective cases, I think they try to make a spinoff of Files of Justice with the Survivor's Law but it isn't on par with the original.

Finally, TVB, What has happened to you?

In the earlier series there was much more better actors and actresses. Great scripts as well. But now, TVB just lack some of these things. Maybe it's me, watching too much TVB and I always know what's going to happen next because they recycle ideas too much. Or the series is pointless.

The 90's production wasn't aesthetically awesome for most of it, but at the very least they tried to obtain a decent cast. And now I think TVB has gone too far with its favoritism, promoting certain actors/actresses to play leading roles in like fifty dramas and so the audience might get sick of seeing them constantly. The plots are pretty much the same throughout the years without much progress, but lately I think that TVB endings are so open ended and ambiguous (ex: Forensic Heroes II, The Four, etc.) What I like about the new productions though are the ancient costumes (they're so pretty). But a lot of times, I do miss the talented 90's actors and actresses, a lot of them who do appear don't have many dramas with TVB anymore. I miss watching people like: Jessica Hsuan, Gallen Lo, Julian Cheung, Flora Chan, and others like that.

i totally favour the 90s dramas and the early 2000s before flora,gallen,jessica,kenix&etc left/decrese their actings with tvb.

those cold blood warm heart, at the threshold of an era 1&2, duke of the mount deer 1996, the drama about shares with lau ching wan and adam cheng, golden faith and etc...all those are really great dramas and no matter how much i love dramas from the later 2000s, they will never match up with those dramas...not even MR or HOG coz i'll tend to skip epis while i never skip an epi from those earlier dramas.

those dramas do not necessarily have happy endings...but they are soo memorable to me but some of the later dramas, i sometimes don't even remember them at all.

But i have watched quite a few of TVB dramas, their standards are till quite high, maybe ome of them are just purely to promote certain celebrities, but others are not...

don't criticise the latest tvb dramas as i might think that tvb may wanted to search for creativity and innovation. For example, Moonlight Resonance is a drama that receives the highest rating - 50 points that is in line with the korean drama - Jewel In The Palace. TVB gradually improves itself not downgrades itself. If compared to the old drama, it is just cannot comparable. I might think that each drama has its own uniqueness. And the old cast like Adam, Gallen, Kenix and etc are great cast. However, time passes by. I am very sure that TVB need to find more new actors and actresses...and teach them the technique of acting...it is just that now is a modern world...we need to follow the flow of time and update ourselves...not just turning backwards and see all the old drama...how good it is....

I don't know why but I can't bring myself to finish most series I start, even though I don't hate them persay I just don't care anymore. The cast are not up to par with the casts in and before the 90's. There was variety in the cast addition to the quality. Even with the same quality of scripts the cast can make a meh series, a pretty decent worthy series.

remember the old days of ancients dramas where they have powder and other groceries items for their filming? now? all them computerize are not amazing, or it maybe amazing, but unrealistic...and sometime, ancient dramas gone too much in the ancient costume. Bosco & Kevin's hair in Devil Desciple..that was like..wth? and I'm a fan of them...I still like the old days drama....though I couldn't resist Bosco

Why many ppl watch TVB last time? Because last time there was no Rain, DBSK, Super Junior and others famous korean artistes. Besides, Korean industry not that good before that. Eventhough all the series in 90's had good air rating but it doesn't mean they are good series. Audience got no choice.

For teenager, anime was still not that active back then. I only watched two anime in 90's, Doraemon and Dragon Ball.

For adult, TVB series was their only choice. No offense but I don't think HK people can speak english very well back then so they cant really watch western series. Just like Moonlight Resonance, it is the highest air rating series in TVB. Beat all those old series. It's because of LSK? No! I must give the credit to the young generation too. Look at the gem of life. What happen to that series even LSK is there?

I must say TVB has improved. Artistes and tvb series quality has improved. If DBSk was existed in 90's and korean indsutry was as good as now I don't think gallen and other old generation and even TVB have chance. Gallen lo and other old generation was living in No Competitor world but now young generation in TVB are living in FULL of COMPETITOR world but they still can famous and even more famous than older generation.

If comparing about acting....i still think younger generation are better than older generation when they were young. Just try to watch wushu series. They are so fake when they fight. It's like arranged. I punch your head and you block then stopped one second and I use my left leg kick you leg and you use right leg to block and then stop one second. Have anyone watch Taichi? If anyone watched that, just compare with back then series. Vincent didnt act like that. He knows kung fu that's why but raymond doesn't know kung fu. He also didn't act like that. They are moving fast and NOT like arranged.

I believed gallen lo is one of the good actor you said. What happened to that cats and dogs series? How bout The Gem of Life? Full of older generation but air rating is very low too.

You got to realise nowaday, people are not "pure" like back then.

Back then, for adult they will straight to home after working. They won't go to bar or something else. Watch TVB series is the only choice.

For teenager, they got no Idol series to watch. Gallen and other old generation can't be said as handsome. Watch their series is the only choice.

For kid, they got not much cartoon to watch such as Ben 10, Pokemon, Digimon and etc. Follow their parents to watch tvb series is the only choice.

Therefore, I don't agree TVB series is going downhill AND COMPLETELY DISAGREE TVB young generation artistes are going downhill as well.

today, parents follow their children's words. They want to watch cartoon I bet their family will let them watch instead of letting them cry and watch TVB series.

If gallen is still acting today, I don't think he is as successful as back then and even losing to young generation such as Big brother, Raymond, bosco, kevin and moses. Teenager prefer them more than Gallen lo and a bunch of older generation. Besides that, Taiwanese idol series are very strong too. Who want to watch old generation and TVB series if Wu zhun is there? Raymond, bosco, kevin and moses are "fighting" with wu zhun and attract teenager to watch tvb series.

Conclusion, TVB series and artistes are not going downhill but everything changed including human, places, and taste.
