Is that true?! Does it mean that she is my height? I know that 160cm is 5ft3? and 153/4cm is 5ft. I thought they will be taller. But aless they are pretty and yeah song hye kyo is probably not 155 since standing next to the presenter she is wearing high heel as well.

She lost weight due to the shooting of Hwang Jini. I think also she do some massaging on her face to shed some baby fats to fit the role of Hwang Jini but based on Roem photoshot I think she look great now.

KOREAN actress Song Hye Kyo is best known for a demure image, but she wants to toughen up.


So she told reporters two years ago: 'Why have I never had strong characters like Hwang Jin Yi?'

She was referring to Korea's famous gisaeng (Korean geisha) during the Chosun dynasty, renowned for her wit, poetic writing and breathtaking beauty.

Little did Hye Kyo know that there were already preparations to make a film about the legendary woman.

The producers must have read the papers, for she soon received a call that got her the coveted role.

'My dream came true,' she said in a Q&A provided by local movie distributor Festive Films.

The film, which took four years to prepare and six months to film, is slated for release here on Thursday.

Legendary Courtesan: Hwang Jin Yi is a love story between Jin Yi and a servant-turned-bandit, played by the hunky Yoo Ji Tae (Old Boy).

While it drew mixed reviews when it opened in Korea in June, critics agreed on one thing - Hye Kyo has matured and made an impressive transformation from innocent girl to 'smouldering seductress' on screen.

During interviews, she spoke passionately about how she spent a year 'living as Hwang Jin Yi' and learning the traditional dance and arts that her character is well versed in.

'I hope Hwang Jin Yi will be a turning point in my acting career,' she told The Chosun Ilbo.

Before that, she was better known for roles like the doe-eyed girl who falls for her brother in Autumn In My Heart and the bubbly writer who romances a superstar in Full House.

What Hye Kyo admires most about her latest character is how dignified she is in the face of lecherous men awed by her beauty.

'Though Hwang Jin Yi was a gisaeng, she was able to be confident as she held the love for one man in her heart,' she said, according to Broasia.com.

'She was a truly blessed person as she was able to find the love to hold her entire life.'

But in real life, love has no place in Hye Kko's busy showbiz career.

Work is her top priority, she said at the film premiere in Korea.

'My career is way more important than love now. Even if I were to meet my dream guy tomorrow, I wouldn't want to get married sosoon.

'I plan to get married only after I'm 30, because by then, love will be more important than work.'

Her ideal guy? Someone attentive, who will be her guardian angel forever.

He can even be ugly, provided he is charismatic enough, she said during a talk show in Korea.

Hye Kyo said that her 'greed for acting' has grown after playing Hwang Jin Yi, and she wants to try her hand at playing new characters.

'I do want to do well enough in films to be proudly referred to as 'movie actress Song Hye Kyo'.'

After the completion of activities for 'HwangJini' in July,it has come to be known that she quietly went to America's New York. During that time, her schedule consisted of studying English.

She stayed in a single room at the London NYC luxury hotel located on West 54th street. From there for two months, she concentrated exclusively on studying English.

One student who is studying abroad in New York said, "There are many entertainers who come to New York for pictorial filming or holidays but someone like Song Hye Gyo who came just to study English is rare."

According to another student studying abroad, J sshi is the teacher who taught Song Hye Gyo adding, "J sshi teaches her lessons tightly and strictly. Even from a student studying abroad to someone famous, they would have to soak in hard training." This proves the desire and determination regarding Song Hye Gyo's studying is not common.

This leaves talk of Song Hye Gyo preparing to advance into Hollywood. In an interview with 'Sports Wide Daily' before the release of 'HwangJini,' she said 'Advancement to foreign countries is necessary as well as foreign language capability. I wasn't able to enter university studies but I really have a greed for language study."

BUSAN, South Korea -- A Sino-Korean filmmaking alliance marked the opening of the Pusan International Film Festival on Thursday as "Assembly" director Feng Xiao-gang and PIFF director Kim Dong-ho touted their neighbors' achievements, undaunted by a rain delay.

Nor did the first opening-night downpour in the festival's 12-year history stop the three leading candidates in Korea's Dec. 19 presidential election from walking the red carpet to cheers from hundreds of wet, screaming fans, who also hoped for a glimpse of cinema celebrities Feng -- China's most bankable director -- and Kim, Korea's senior statesman of cinema.

Introducing "Assembly," Kim said, "It displays Korea and China's superior technical skills and Feng Xiaogang's outstanding directorial ability."

At a press screening earlier in the day, Feng praised the Seoul-based team that aided his $10.8 million modern Chinese war epic in special effects, make-up, art direction and sound.


"Thanks to my Korean crew, I've been able to produce a beautiful war film on par with Hollywood," Feng said.

Kim thanked Feng for granting the world premiere of "Assembly" -- part of which takes place during the Korean War -- to Busan, the beach resort that was once the last South Korean foothold against the invading communists from the North.

"We are pleased and honored to have picked Feng Xiaogang's 'Assembly,' " Kim said. "This is the first war epic blockbuster made in China, and it is also a Korean co-production."

The recent growth of cinema in Korea, which has made it the world's fifth-largest boxoffice earner, has seen many local companies look to neighboring China to tap a larger, nascent market (HR 9/28).

The premiere, attended by lead actor Zhang Hanyu and his co-stars, was set to draw more than the 6,000 ticketed guests to an outdoor screen at the local marina.

Outside the Pusan Yachting Center, a wet crowd of hundreds of fans lined the red carpet, swelled by screaming schoolgirls awaiting celebrities, rumored to include Korean pop band Super Junior.

"This is my first year here, but I don't care about the rain," said Kim An-na, standing sans umbrella in hopes of seeing film and TV actress Song Hye-kyo.

Others treading the wet carpet included Festival de Cannes general manager Thierry Fremaux, Korean fashion designer Andre Kim and legendary film composer Ennio Moriccone, whose appearance prompted Jeon Jae-duh to belt the themes from "The Mission" and "Cinema Paradiso" through his harmonica, accompanied by the Busan Symphony Orchestra.

The rain stopped, and the movie started.

The collaboration between Feng's producers, Beijing-based Huayi Bros. Pictures, and MK Pictures began at MK's Seoul offices in the Korean capital in June 2006, and continued as Huayi began preselling the film at Pusan last October. It opens in China on Dec. 20.

Feng said he was pleased to be leading China to work with Korea in movies, adding he had told his friend, Korean director Kang Je-gyu ("Brotherhood"), that he had wanted to use Hollywood crews but could not afford them.

"I was fortunate to have 'Brotherhood' as a role model," Feng said, adding that the director of the Korean War epic had introduced him to the Koreans on his "Assembly" crew.

"I welcome all Koreans wishing to make movies in Beijing and offer them my help," Feng said, adding, however, he was now afraid too many Chinese filmmakers would hire Koreans instead of local crew.

Running until Oct. 12, PIFF features more premieres than ever before. Of its 275 films, 66 are world, 26 international and 101 are Asia premieres.

A lot of people drawn interest to the ring Song Hye Kyo is wearing during the PIFF Hwang Jini screening. They say its a couples ring, but her management stated that its the stylist idea to put the rings. Anyway seeing Song Hye Kyo once again (photos only) made me happy, as long as there is no official word came from her mouth I will consider the ring as her style on that particular ocassion.

Her photobook will come out in December (as KBS news said), jwill wait then...! The man beside her is his co star in HWJ movie....not a boy friend....hehhee..! Anyway, her hat is similar to Bi's hat style while in germany....

i find that SHK is a really potential actress....and to perfect that, she got the looks that make her such a potentialed beauty as well.....after so many years, she doesn't look like she ever aged or changed dramatically.....i m amazed of that cuz not all actress can sustain her work and looks with a balance......from all the shows i watched from her, she successfully moves the audience along with her character....one bad think, i saw from her profile that she haven't acted in series for a few years already.....even tho she just released a movie in june, it's still not the same....hehe....

maybe she wants to relax more before plunging into another movie or drama cos each time she really worked very hard with no time for rest. who knows, at the moment she is building up her love nest somewhere far far away or taking care of somebody she loves. she doesnt need to act for money and if she wants she is taking her time to select her next movie rather than drama. but if it's a drama - possibly a high hope for FH2. anyway she's rich - with endorsements, photography etc. she doesnt need to slog so hard.
