Who do you think is the most versatile TVB actress? As in the actress can act out any type of roles given to her, whether it's the cute, sweet & innocent roles, the sexy and flirty roles, the funny comic roles, the powerful strong-headed career woman roles, etc.
To me, Fala is a really versatile actress, she was mean and arrongant in Steps, sl*tty and flirty in Family Link, yet she is so innocent and sweet in MR, I'm kind of amazed how she can portray all these different roles, she is a really versatile actress. I'd love to see Fala in an ancient drama playing an ancient beauty.
What other actresses do you think are versatile?

For me, I think it will be Charmaine. She can act in serious roles like in "Fornesic Heroes II" as Madam Ma and she can act comedy roles like her role as Lap Lan Ching Ching in "Word Twsiters Adventure." As for flirty role, I think it will have to be the fourth generation where she played as Dai Sze Ga in "Madien's Vow."

I think the most versatile actress is Ada Choi.
Armed reaction: tomboyish
fate twister: motherly, "see lai"
healing hand: professional
dance of passion: sort of evil, older character
where the legend begins: a younger more innocent character
i dont know what this series is called but it is a very old one where she plays the villian and the other cast includes Gigi lai. i think its in the early 90s.
to catch the uncatchable: crazy and funny character
another versatile actress is Gigi Lai.
cute and innocent in the ultimate crime fighter
sexy in shade of truth
evil in war and beauty
powerful in the charm beneath
professional and mature in healing hand 3

Charmaine acted in alot of different roles but she was unconvincing and subpar in most of them.

yeah i defiantely think fala chen is a very versatile actress indeed...she can portray her character very well like in steps and a journey called life, she was really mean, stubborn and then to a very innocent, beautiful girl in HOG and MR!

actualy Fala is kinda versatile. her character in steps was evil and mean and also she played a very different character in catch me know. i thought her character in there would be the same as a journey called life but she surprised me. also i thought that her character in MR would be the sam as HOG but again she surprised me.

Tavia Yeung and Christine Ng are two that I can think off on top of my head that I still see in series nowadays. Both these actresses looks beautiful
Christine Ng is amazing. She can be very elegant, graceful, and understanding as seen in War of In-Laws (Myolie's Aunt), Twins of Brothers, and the recent period drama one she was in. She was b*tchy, demanding, and cruel in CIB , The Green Grass of Hope, and Women on the Run (not exactly cruel). She also does the very plain ditzy girl in Welcome to the House.
Tavia Yeung - haha, forgot what I want to say, for some reason, the characters she has done does not leave a strong impression on me. But I do reckon her acting abilities. Just look at her current role in Moonlight Resonance and the previous roles she has played. She can also pull of the ancient look like Face to Fate and The Land of Wealth. I remember her playing a lot of roles where the characters were weak and innocent.

agree with this poster.
although tavia's character in moonlight resonance is still in a sense weak. more like vulnerable i guess.
Must be Michelle Yim. Who else has as much roles as Michelle? She can act good, bad, evil and family woman, rich and poor, pitiful and strong. No actress now can compare with the career of Michelle. She still looks very young, very attractive.
For young girls, I think it's Fala Chen. Can be cute, be evil, be greedy, be sexy, be b*tchy. Very good. The girl has large way to go.
Tavia acted in many series but I mostly forget all of her role. She can act but still have to do much to be entitled as versatile actress.

I think Myolie Wu is the most versatile TVB actress. She acted well as an independent strong career woman in Survivor's Law, sweet/evil Ji Kwai in Master of Tai Chi, pitiful in Triumph in the Sky and Grow with Love (which she had to gain 50 lbs), rebellious in Dream of Color, funny/cute in War of In Law. I don't think any other actress will sacrifice by putting on half their weight like Myolie.

Easy answer for me: Sheren Tang & Ada Choi.
For Ada, Collie hit it all on the nose already, I don't need to explain any further. Sheren, if "Loving You" didn't convince you enough (I think that's the name), the weak, housewife in TFL, the conniving yet vulnerable Yu Fei in WAB, the independent, businesswoman in LFD. The thing about Sheren & Ada is that they play all these different roles and yet are able to bring each character fully to life and find that vulnerability in the character to make it more real & relatable.

The only person that comes to me mind is Ada, she is a wonderful actress. She can act anything from an auntie-like character in Fate Twister to the authoritive woman in DOP. Exactly like what collie.
I believe Fala Chan has the potential to be a versatile actress but I think she has to improve her accent.

I agree that Fala, Gigi & Ada are the most versatile actresses, always see them portray different roles.
I don't find Myolie and Sheren versatile at all. Myolie exaggerates alot when she acts, which is fine for comedy roles like WOIL, but for emotional characters like in Tai Chi & WAD, she does poorly, just too exaggertaed and fake. Sheren can't handle weak and pitiful roles b/c she has a very strong powerful look, suitable for strong roles like WAB, but unconvincing in weak roles b/c she just doesn't look the part. Even when you look at pics of Sheren in real life, she's got that arrogant powerful look.

another versatile actress is esther Kwan.
cute and innocent: recipe of the heart. her character is so young here and she is not that young when she played this character.
motherly: best selling secret and armed reaction. she is so "sai lai" in this series that you would think she was a mother already.
evil: 4 legendary aces. in this series she played the villian and the goody and that is in one series. both characters are absolute opposites and you can tell them apart!
comedy: she was hilarious in lady flower fist and so outgoing too!

my choices is Moses chan and charmaine sheh because they can do serious and funny characters sooo welll, they are received quite positively. Comparing Charmaine Sheh in the series the Pheonix Quartlet and Forsenic heroes 2..... GG!! same for Moses in HOG and serious show like Healing hands..=P

I think Fala's quite a versatile actress too. She seems like she's able to become the character she is portraying and make the audience hate or love her, depending on her role. Like in 'Steps', I really hated her, but in Moonlight Resonance, she was also able to pull off the sweet image. Although she's still not the best, I do think she's got potential. First thing is to try and get rid of the accent.

Christine Ng is definately one of them. She's been in all type of roles:
Wars of In-Laws ~ innocent, shy, and understanding
Women on the Run ~ flirty and crazy
The Green Grass of Home ~ High-class, rich, strong focus on career
Twins of Brothers ~ a strong fighter and powerful personality
Welcome to the House ~ a plain dumbish funny girl
The Silver Chamber of Sorrows ~ Very very evil and revengeful
Building Blocks of Life ~ low class, cheap, and dumbish
CIB Files ~ strong career lady, smart and evil, commanding
She's basically done every type of role possible. && she does a great job in each and everyone of them.

If this is for current actresses I want to say Linda Chung. I think this is because of the number of roles she has available to her. I'm sure Tavia is a better actress but we haven't had the opportunity to see her play the variety of roles Linda has in the past few years. Linda played a bad girl turned good in A Journey Called Life; a kind-hearted happy go lucky character in Legend of the Demigods; a quiet and innocent Dr in MR; a strong and determined girl striving for a better life for herself and her father in HOG. There is also that jewel series coming out soon too where she'll play a spoiled brat. I don't think shes the most 'talented' actress but she has definitely had the opportunity to show her versatility.
and of course Charmaine. Is she considered 'the queen' of tvb now or something?

wow.. lol this is quite a hard question to answer cuz theres a never-ending answer to it ^__^
to me.. I'm thinking the more experienced actresses like Michelle Yim, Sheren Tang, Louise Li, Ada Choi, etc..
but for the younger generation.. theres people like Tavia(though she's quite experience herself xD however, she belongs to the younger gen. =D), and like you've mentioned, Fala, etc..
I quite like these actresses because they're so convincing in any character/role they're portraying
and it's not so "eye-twitching" to watch them lol xD
but theres a certain actress I miss seeing... and that is.. Nadia Chan.. ^__^
I think she's a pretty good example for a "Versatile Actress" lol
oh and also Yvonne Lam and of course Kingdom Yuen
but on my mind is.. I think maybe if one of us "TVB fans" becomes an actress/actor..
we may become a better/more versatile actor/actress than most people we see on screen?
cuz since we watch so much TVB, we get our "experience" from that
so I guess we maybe we'd be a more versatile actor/actress them most of them? xD
haha.. just my little thought..

even through tavia had alot of the same character and not so strong characters but i think her as an actress has potential. she is able to take on many different types of looks ancient or modern.
i think she can play an evil character and when she does she will steal the screen. she is really good at being funny. i hope she gets more funny roles. and delivering those ancient lines are really hard. one of the few tvb actors that can do that

charmaine, ada, esther,linda,Sheren ,
gigi cant really pull of cute,
her attitude doesnt haf da word cute in it,
her personality is normally mature, therefore for her to act innocent & cute looks fake to me,
she doesnt noe how to act innocent & all she does is drag her voice & lower her tone,
& her eyes r sharp & piercing dazz why
i lyk her wen she's actin as a powerful lOL or something lyk dat,
tavia but we havent seen her much in evil roles
think fala is more natural in cute dan flirty xD, but we'll hafta w8 & see more

Kate Tsui is one because she can act good and bad roles such as MR and SOS. You can't image a tomboy in OTFB can become a sweet girl in SOS and a bad girl in MR. She is versatile.

Hmm~I would like to add Sharon Chan to this list but so far I've only seen a few of her dramas; namely,
Welcome to the House, Devil's Disciples, Lethal Weapons of Love and War, Word Twisters Adventure.
I heard she played other modern roles which I missed. ;|
But just relating to these titles that I've watched, I must say from being a playful, rich girl character in <Lethal Weapons> to becoming a Blood Sect leader in <DD> and then also, playin as a young empress in <Word Twisters>... I think she did well in her roles so far, I must say I'll be looking forward to more various roles that she will play in future.
There were many compliments on her role as Pansy in <Pages of Treasure>?
here, let me cast my vote for her!

I think:
Sheren Tang - just see the difference between the very calm and strong independent career woman in LFD and the panicky houswife in FL are already very different. Of course, her other characters are of a lot of variety too.
Maggie Cheung - the naive Po Chu in OTB and the materialistic matchmaker in BH, once again two very different roles brought to life.
I think the first two are needless to say. There are a lot of others from their generations that are very versatile too, like Michelle Yim, Marianne Chan, etc.
From the new generations, I reckon:
Tavia Yeung - the spunky pregnant lady in VF, the very gentle and understanding So Ying Shuet in EH, the naughty Hung Hung in TWF, the dumb bimbo in DB, the rebellious daughter-in-law in HOG, I think she is very convincing in each and every of her roles. Some of her roles maybe similar but I think she managed to give differences to them that make her portfolio like a spectrum. And now, we will see how she fares as the villain in BTROC.
Fala Chen - this lady maybe quite new but she has shown her potential in her acting. From the mean third party in FL, the spoilt brat in Steps, she can manage to fully clean her past image in the kind-hearted Ah Hing in MR. And I think her cantonese has improved a lot, her accent is not as bad as when she first started. She definitely has a lot of potential.
Leila Tong and Nancy Wu are versatile too.

Older Veterans- Michelle Yim
Fa Dan- Veterans- Ada Choi, Esther Kwan, Christine Ng, Bondy Chiu, Sheren Tang
(I know Bondy hasn't been in a lot of series but I found her acting in whatever role to be very convincing and entertaining)
Uprising Fa Dan- Tavia Yeung
Personally, I only picked actresses who are convincing in both ancient and modern. Most people can pull off modern, but ancient requires that extra bit of aura and honestly, not a lot of newbies can pull it off. Its not only the looks, its also the way they carry their speech. Selena I think looks stunning in ancient and she does come close but still not exactly their with her dialect. Think you really need to understand the poetic lines they say. Bernice and Fala are both great candidates but they are too limited in modern versatility because to be honest, their canto needs work.

For me will be Michelle Yim.. From the Heart of Greed who she is a very caring and sweet sister and lovely aunt. However in Moonlight Resonance, she is an evil that is so bad until nobody can imagine. She make her character so real until I don't think she is acting.

My vote goes to Ada Choi as well.
She's done it all basically!!! Ancient to modern, dramatic to comedy, goody-goody to evil villian...i can go on...
The thing with Ada, she not only gets into her roles, but they all leave a lasting impression.

Nnadia Chan
Sweet and naive teenager to fragile mentally disturbed middle aged loner in Songbird
Was a heroine (Lu Hap) in Zu Mountain Saga
Played an ugly role in The Mark of Triumph
Not a very sociable character in Instinct
Stubborn and unforgiving in Cold Blood Warm Heart
Spolit princess in The Legendary Four Aces
Sort of evil in Strike at Heart
Clever and independent in Trimming Success
i believe they are Ada Choi and Maggie Cheung, too bad you dont see Maggie Cheung in any series recently. Somehow, i dont really think Gigi can act, especially when she cries, its just too exaggerated and unnatural.

The most Versatile actress is Esther Kwan
The reason for this is because she's played:
A Mother - in Armed Reaction 1 and 2
A Wife (Ce Lie) - in Armed Reaction 1
A Daughter - in Recipe of the Heart
Comedy - in Lady Flower Fist, Recipe of the Heart
Cute - in Lady Flower Fist, A Ghost Spirit
Villian/Evil - Four Legendary Aces
Serious - Taming of the Princess
Fire fighter - Burning Flame
Policewoman - Armed Reaction (The only actress who appeared in all 999 series)
Doctor - Healing Hand (in ATV)
Martial arts - Lady Flower Fist/four legendary aces
Princess - Taming of the Princess
Romance - Recipe of the Heart
Chef - Receipe of the Heart
Office Lady & Mother - Best Selling Secret
Yeah she's played everything. Any type of character she hasn't? Would love to see her in something like Moon Resonance/Heart of Greed.

I think Christine Ng is. Here's alist of different roles she's done in the past:
Women on the Run: Big flirt and crazy high class ish xD
Wars of in Laws: Innocent and nice and sweet
Silver Chamber of Sorrows: Evil and Smart though sorrowful
Welcome to the House: Clueless Dumbish =P
CIB Files: Very smart and professional kinda evil
Green Grass of Home: High Class Boss; very stylish

Greed Mask: Just a normal lady
She's done a lot of different kind of roles...and was very good at all of them. Her acting is very natural and well rounded

For me, this question is both easy and difficult. It's easy because certain actresses already started popping into my head when I read the question, but it's also difficult because there are quite a few (I can think of at least 5 or 6) and I can't choose between them because they are all so fitting...
I agree with most of the ones from the older generation who have already been named in this post (Ada Choi, Esther Kwan, Nadia Chen, Christine Ng, Sheren Tang, Michelle Yim), but I would also choose my favorite actress Kathy Chow -- not only is she a versatile actress, she also looks stunning in both Ancient and Period series as well as Modern. Look at all the series that she did back in the 80's / 90's and even her 2 recent works -- every character that she plays is very convincing and leaves a lasting impression.
Also, don't forget Maggie Siu -- she's always been very consistent and played many different roles.

This is what I think: Lee Sse Kee, Michelle Yim, Sheren Tang, Charmaine Sheh (I love her series!), Leila Tong (semi-TVB actress and soo many differents role personality each time in all her series!), Jessia Hsuan (don't forget about her! She was soooo convincing as a gamble addict in Dicey Business!), Flora Chan, Kingdom Yuen (also don't forget about her!)
For males: Bobby Au Yeung, Joe Ma, Raymond Lam!!!, Roger Kwok!!!
