You also need to feel comfortable with providing us your real name and address (in the last round) so that we could send you the prizes =D

Judging
- There will be three judges for round 1 & 2 and an extra special judge for round 3. We will reveal who the judges are in round 2, except the special judge will remain anonymous till the end.

Entries
- Round 1 - 1 solo song of your choice; fast or slow; in any language; minimum length: 2 minutes; background music compulsory
Judges' Expectation
- Judge 1 - Im expecting contestants to thrill me, to excite me and make me surprised with what they have done. I want them to challenge themselves to high levels where they are able to test themselves as they progress through the competition. I want to see improvements with the comments myself and the other judges have given. No need to push yourselves to the limit but dont slack around with what you give as the amount of effort you put in can be heard through your voice and emotions. Make sure you sing with your heart!!!
Judge 2 - I go for power, dynamic, on beat, on tune, emotions and breathing, especially power. My theory is if you don't have any power in your voice then you don't deserve to have such high mark. By power, I don't mean shouting or yelling, but the strength to uphold the song's dynamic till the end. If you sing a song that only needs a whispering airy voice without a substantial climax then it's hard to compare it with a song that has clear light and shade. Pay attention to what you are singing, try to understand the lyrics if you can and sing the song based on your own interpretation. But with that said, don't stress yourself out too much. Have fun with your entry and show us what you've got in your own way.
Judge 3 - What am I looking forward to this year?
- - That the contestants can make the judges understand the song even if its in a different language
- Entertaining, you make people want you to sing more
- In time, on beat
- Can sing different genres so we can compare and contrast it with different contestants.

REQUIREMENTS
Am I Qualified?
- Who can join? If you fall under ONE of these TWO categories, you are qualified
1. Being in the Members group or above (including the Crew!)
2. Being an AF-newbie who either
- a. has a thread in AF Recording Studio prior to the announcement of this contest (before 14th September) or,
b. has joined AF for at least 6 months or,
c. has 35+ posts
What are the Song Requirements?
- Unlike other years when you could acapella your round 1's entry up, we have decided to make it compulsory to have background music included in your submission this year. Reason being, if we make it compulsory for round 2 and 3 anyway, might as well make it compulsory for round 1? It is also hard to judge one's professionalism if they don't sing it with music, as being on-beat plays quite a big part in our Judges' Expectation.
Songs submitted must NOT contain profanity.
Your submission for AF Idol 2008 MUST be unique. In other words, you cannot submit songs that you have submitted for previous years' Idol, nor can you submit songs that have been submitted to other online singing competitions. If you have a thread at AFRS, be sure that you have not updated your thread with the song before. If you have, and want to submit the same song, you need to submit a new version so that we can determine your improvement. We have spies around, and if we catch you, you are automatically disqualified!

Q: I'm an AF-n00b/AF-newbie, am I allowed to join?
- AF-n00b & AF-newbie who registered after 1 April, 2008: you need 35+ posts to qualify, so start posting more!
AF-n00b who registered before/on 1 April, 2008: you need 10+ posts to qualify, so start posting more!
AF-newbie who registered before/on 1 April, 2008: you are automatically qualified.
You need to have the correct amount of posts before you sign up. If you don't meet our requirements, your entry will be bounced back and you will need to resubmit once you have fulfilled the requirements. So please don't waste both our time and yours, only sign up if you're qualified.
Also DO NOT SPAM along the process. One-liners are considered spams. They will be deleted and your postcount will stay the same!
Q: Do I need to follow Judges' Expectation?
- Not really... The expectations are there just for references, they're sort of like advices to motivate you. It's to show you what the Judges expect from the competition as a whole but they still would like to see your personality in your entry. So the most important thing is to have fun and prove yourself with your own style
Q: Can I post my entry up and show people?
- We'd rather you didn't... okay you can't
. Just to be fair, we would like all contestants to be anonymous till the end. Even the judges won't know who you are until the results are out. If you are caught advertising yourself or posting your entry up at other forums, you will be punished

- Yes you can
Our judges might comment on your mic's quality but rest assured, they will not take points off if your mic buzzes like a bee.Q: I want to sing in a language that I'm not fluent in... will I be marked down for sounding funny?
- LOL not everyone knows every language so you will not be judged on how fluent you sound or how many words you've mispronounced
. It is, however, still best to sing in a language that you are comfortable with, as you're able to concentrate on your singing more than worrying about what you're singing.Q: What program do I use to record?
- If you are new to this, we recommend Audacity as it is free, simple to install and easy to use. When you save your song for the 1st time, it will ask you for a lame_enc.dll file, download it here.
The next popular recording program is Adobe Audition. This is not a free program and is rather complicated to use but if you want to try it out, send an email to hippokathy@hotmail.com and hippokathy88 will provide you with the program.
If you have any technical questions, ask them at the Singing + Recording thread. We won't guarantee that we can answer all your questions but we will try our best.
Q: I can't seem to find an instrumental for my song, help!
- If you need help with finding an instrumental, you can ask for help at the Instrumental/Karaoke Request thread! Again we won't guarantee we can find everything but we will try our best. If there's no instrumental available, you can try and vocal remove the song. We'd rather you didn't sing along with the original singer because it's hard to judge your performance with the singer's voice in the background.
Q: I can only save my file as .wav or .wma but I need to submit an .mp3 file, what do I do?
- There is an online Media Converter available =)
Q: Can I resubmit my entry if I don't think the 1st one was good enough? Can I even change my song choice?
- Yes you are more than welcome to. You can resubmit your entry or even change to another song, as long as it is before the deadline. Though we strongly advise you to think carefully before choosing a song to submit, just so that it doesn't waste your time.
Q: When will each round start and end?
- Round 1: 20 September - 1 October
Round 2: 7 October - 22 October
Round 3: 7 November - 21 November
Q: Who will be listening to my entry? Will they be able to download them?
- The Organisers will be the ones downloading and checking if your entry complies with the rules. It will then be uploaded onto soundclick for the Judges to judge and the Audience to listen to and vote for (in round 2 and 3). So basically the world will be listening to you
, but the entries will only be made downloadable once the contest is over. If you by any chance do not wish your entry to be downloaded, please specify so in your Sign Up form.to prove that you have read our FAQ, feel free include "meow" anywhere in your sign up form =P
