i have been lurking around here for the last month, well longer in the korean entertainment thread. but i've recently come to know photoshop, and a whole new exciting world has just opened up! i'm still in the learning process so i don't think i qualify to take requests yet. so for now please let me know what you think of my creations and please be honest, of course i'll be a little sad, but if that leads to me becoming a better photoshopp-er, then i'll come back to thank you in the long run. and if you have tips for me please share!

okay, the only thing i have to say about your banners is that you (like me) like to use super bright textures... and then end up NOT being able to see the person's face or something... so yeah, in the 1st banner & 3rd banner, you could have erased all the bright textures around their faces so they won't exactly be the same color as the textures! and also, heheheeeeee i know using brushes is very fun, but you should also know when is too much to use! like in the 5th banners, i didn't think the butterfly was very necessary and doesn't really match too much with the rest of the banner...?? since it's a pretty dark banner! hehehehee, other than that, i think your artwork is DEF *NOT* of a newbie! & i hope you won't think i'm being tooo harsh!!!

and thank you for your kind words dear. i really appreciate it. and yes, i know i tend to use bright colors a lot. but i just like the feeling of \'fading\' colors. i know it\'s not appropriate for every picture, so now i\'ll try to use it less. and also brushes! hahaha i love them, yes, i do. hahaha. i\'ll definitely stop adding too much stuff to them. thanks so much for your constructive critic.

how do you do the diagonal line pattern like that! so pretty!

The fourth image down is got to be my favorite yet. Most of the rest seems to be too bloomy & gloomy with lots of particles.

you sound just like me when i first started with PS. here's the step by step instruction i posted on another forum.

the diagonal lines? you have to make them yourself, it's really easy.

1. open a new sheet, make it 3x3 pixels. also make sure to make your background content 'transparent'.

2. then zoom in as much as you can.

3. select your pencil tool. set the; brush: 1px, mode: normal, opacity: 100%

4. select the color white for your pencil.

5. now you just go and make a diagonal line from lower left to upper right. you should make 3 blocks on the sheet.

6. now go to 'edit' then down to 'define pattern'. and a little screen should pop up asking you to name the pattern. i would name it 'white diagonal'.

AND YOU'RE DONE!


so now, let's test it out.

1. open an image.
2. create new layer. make sure you create a new layer and not a duplicate of the image. Layer->New->Layer or 'shft+ctrl+N'
3. select your paint bucket tool.
4. then go up to the settings and make sure it's on 'Pattern', if it's on 'foreground' change it. then click on the drop down next to that and find your pattern that you created! mode:normal and opacity:100%.
5. now double check to see that your new layer is highlighted and then just go and hit onceon the image! and there you go! if the lines are too intense you can play around with the opacity down on the right lower corner and also try setting it to 'screen' and 'multiply' and other cool features. it's so much fun.

*NOTE: if you don't see your brush right away you might have to close out of your photoshop and restart it*

the "bloomy&gloomy" effect you're talking about is the gaussian blur i'm guessing.
i'm a huge fan of it so all my work needs a layer of that.
and the particles? i'm guessing are the brushes.
i'm also a huge fan of brushes...

i'm happy you like my creations.
making color effects and turning it blurry is pretty simple.
for color effets i just cover the whole picture up with a particular color i want and just change the blending mode.
and for the blurry effect just go to filter-blur-gaussian blur then play around with the numbers, i suggest staying in the single digits.

i think i have a deviant art account but it was so long ago that i don't remember what my password or screen name is.

for those two pics, after i blend the two pics together i just added the color on top. for the first one i used green and then changed the blending and lowered the opacity. and just play around with it, that's how i photoshop. i never start out with any set rules, i just click this and that and add whatever i want.

as for tut sites... i really didn't go to any sites. i just asked friends on msn how to do a particular thing and then looked at examples of other people's completed works. then i tried to duplicate it, but of course i won't use or post up those works and claim it as my own. i just do that to learn the skills. after you have a handle of the skills then i use it in my own way.

yeah, the guy running and the girl on the beach are different pics. i like how the blending turned out too. and i had to fix that girl's neck in photoshop, cause she had like an adam's apple sticking out. it was weird! hahaha
and yes, i know i like to use a lot of bright colors.. and the dreamy effects that sometimes don't come out right. hahaha it's all right, i enjoyed making those and i think i've come to tone down a lot.
when i first got photoshop i was so into the gaussian blur and dusty/dream looks. now i think i like sharpening a lot. aish, we'll see where this takes me.
oh, the amei coloring is so bad! well the one i posted up anyways. that was kinda my 'test' coloring cause i haven't done one for months. if you look at her leg, you can see the color is bleeding out of it's line. hahaha i fixed that and put make up on her. then i tried coloring the other two pics of her and i don't know which one to pick anymore. i was going to post them up too but it'd take too much space so i didn't.

Nyahaha-- you graphics are soooo prettyyyy~!!! i especially like your posters! i can totally see your love for the gaussian blur, ahaha-- it's like everywhere xDDD but that's not a bad thing...all your graphics look soft and dreamy, lol. and you seem to love bright, bright textures!! the first and third one seem to be a bit too bright, LOL~ because it covers up the picture, and i think you added some blur too, hehe~ i like the bright soft feeling though...most people like doing dark gloomy graphics. ^^ i 'specially like the blur of the song hye kyo picture...i think it was the second? (: very verrryyyy prettyful.
i really envy your blending skills! you make tons of pictures look like one picture, haha~

hahahhaa! thanks dear cheri! your comments are much much much appreciated! i know i went overboard with the gaussian blur and brightening my pics over and over when i first started. but i've toned down abit.. really i have.

it took me forever to learn how to blend! it was so hard for me! i tried it so many ways and finally settled on one technique which i think works best for me and my over-brightening, over-gaussian blurring, and over screening of the pics. i really don't mind sharing my tips if you ever need it just let me know, if i can help i'll help.

as for taking requests, i'll wait until i've got all my challenges done and my other fanfic posters done first. i think i have a handful to go.

This colorization, your first? it's soo much better than my first~!!!
the hair is so realistic~!! it really does look like he has red hair~!! the shadowing of his clothes are the PREFECT tint. =]
the only thing that bothers me is the skin color. you see how much different the color of his lips and the color of his face is? maybe add a BIT least yellow tone. but overall the skin looks GREAT. very realistic~! and great job leaving the background out. =)

i think blending pics together is my fave thing to do on photoshop. before i hated it but as i started practicing i started to love it. and as of right now, i'm pretty confident that i can blend pretty well now.

and your comments on the colorization is soooo much appreciated! i will take all your suggestions and keep them! yes, that was my first colorization that is why i didn't know what i was doing. i just slapped on the color and that was it, i didn't do anything else to it except play with the opacity! at least now i know i have other options to play with. oh, i guess i purposely made his lips so pink like that cause i'm a fan of his lips. i like to put pink on his lips. hehehe yunho likes them like that! hahahaha j/k... but yeah i do see his face is really bright/light. i actually added pink to his cheeks too but i think i lowered the opacity a little too much so you couldn't see it all too well. but yeah, thank you so much for your pointers! i feel like i've just won the lottery when i saw your name on this thread!


i had lyrics on this poster too, but it looked out of place so i just took them off. placing and choosing font/text is the hardest thing for me cause many times my posters/blends have been ruined because of my poor choices. if there's any suggestions from anyone i'd really appreciate it.

Hi JeMun! You take so much time to comment on our battle that I'll feel guilty if I don't write a huge long comment for yours.

I don't even know where to begin...you have so many...

Colorization:
I really like the color of his hair and the lips. They are both really striking and bold colors that stand out well. However, the brightness of the shirt color sort of detracts from that. It's a bit hard to explain, but I think that when I look at the colorization, I'm not sure where to look. The hair color is bold but the outfit is shiny which sort of takes away from the statement of each other. (eh...did that make sense?) Perhaps the blue of the shirt could be dulled a little. Otherwise, I love the color choices. As for the skin color, I agree with jenannsel. It would help if it was tinted with more yellow to give it a more realistic look. It is really great overall though. Love it. *drool*

Poster:
I think this is my favorite of your posters. (I love blueee) I really like the simplicity of it and the lonely feeling it gives off. Once thing I think could have been done better would be the font choice or style for "waiting for you". The font that you picked is very bold and round which in my opinion gives off more of a cheerful final look while what the words are saying gives off a wistful feeling that would probably be portrayed better if it was a script font or instead of doing a stroke around it, use a a blue outer glow.

Poster
I love this one. I can't think of anything I would change for this one. I really like the contrast between the colors. Perfect!

Poster
I love the flame effect. It's such a great touch, you can definitely feel the heat. I think the only thing I would change is the color of the yellow of the pictures on the top. They currently come off as more greenish yellow than the yellow below in the reflection that gives off the burning liquid feel.

Banners:
This is just an overall comment on your banners. I really like the placement of pictures in your banners. I would suggest not using so much brushes and effects on them. Sometimes simplicity is the key.

My 2cents! I hope I didn't tire your eyes out... I can definitely see a lot of improvements from when you started though! Keep it up!

i know i over brightened this poster. this was my earlier poster that i did and i really wanted a clean/white look. and yeah, i totally agree with the font choices! that is my weakest! i can't pick the right font or the right placement for them. i wish there was a rule for what kind or where to put my font/text. i'm horrible at it. if you have any pointers help me out. and i don't have many font choices either. most of the fonts i used are what came with my laptop. hehehee so i should do some searching and find good fonts.




when i made those posters i was either really sad or just annoyed/angry. i'm glad it worked out so well. yeah, now that i look at the flames it does show a little tint of 'green' it's because of the colors of the pictures that i added in. i should of had gone over it with a little orange to cover it up. you have such sharp eyes! i'll make sure and fix that up. thank you!

Ooo.. I love those posters you just did especially the 'By Chance' poster. But there was a yellow spot on her face xD. But anyways, the colours are beautiful. And the 'Returning to my Past' poster, the quality of the two pictures weren't the same huh. I'm guessing you enlarged it? I dunno, but it's always best to choose both of the same quality (of course, good quality!), if not, you'll be able to see the contrast between the two pictures, making it look a bit awkward. Yours is okay (I have a feeling you lost me at yellow spot). But the point is, when I first looked at it, I felt the poster was a bit awkward because they're both of not the same quality. One looks very good and clear, but the other one looks a bit blurry. Hope I make sense!

Thanks for your comment. My creations are far from being beautiful or superb. I'm just a newbie.

As for your work I would like to ask what kind of 'feeling' you wanted when you're done. Also taking those black dots off the faces would be good too. You want to enhance the person's face.

That's how I photoshop. I tell myself that I want the finish product to make me feel a certain way when it's done. So then I use brushes, colors, etc to create that feeling. I find that with photoshop it's just trial and error, you have to try out a lot of things on your photo to make it come out the way you want. You can add a brush on a new layer and if you don't like it just delete it. All I can tell you is you should check out the tutorial threads on forums and learn how to color and filter and all that stuff. Even if you don't do it 100% their way, you'll still get a lot of ideas on how to do stuff. And the most important thing is to create a new layer everytime you add something. You'll have many many many layers but that's okay. Plus that way you can just delete a layer if you think it's not right for the photo later on, cause you won't know what you want to keep or delete at the end. I hope you continue to photoshop and create beautiful things for us to see too. Remember that everyone has to start somewhere so go to the tutorial thread and just learn from the tutorials.


I suggest that you create your own thread and post up your work and ask the other more talented designers here to give you pointers. That way maybe if I can't help then the other girls can surely help you too.

I really like effects and the poster overall. The only criticism I have for it would be the font. (You asked for it Literally.)
I can't say I agree with the font choice or the color choice. I like how the font is scripted. However, this particular font has an unevenness to it. The poster behind it is portraying a dreamy, far-away feel while the font gives off more of a wishy-washy feeling, like something is going to go wrong in a perfect scene.
As for the color, I think it probably would have worked better with a thinner font. It works with the little words you have underneath (mainly because they are small. However, with this font that you picked, the color just doesn't seem to match the poster. I can't really tell you what would have matched better, maybe a brighter or deeper shade of pink since the green in the background is a pretty bright shade.
But otherwise, I love the new effect.

And again, these are just suggestions for my own taste.

Now that I take a look at it again in larger form (I didn't click on the link before) I think the color does go pretty well with the poster. I probably would have picked something like I suggested before, but I personally just like bright colors overall. Yeah...so mainly just the font XD

OH GOSH. i LOVE the red-ish streaks in her hair. and ooh, her blue sweater color is so prettty! the skin color+cheek blush matched perfecttttly lmao. i can't color for my life! D:

AND, alkjfdlakjsfdl;asjdfl;ajsfd;lajfjadsf -dies- THE YUNJAE POSTTTER! :DDD i really LOVEEEE ittt cause mwhhaa! it's yunjae! ;D Anyways some criticism for it. hehee, i like the blending at the top, but the picture of jaejae lying down, his arm is going into one of my FAVORITE yunjae pic ever so that looks weird. you could have moved this jaejae pic over a little bit, so it doesn't cover the jaejae hat. Also, maybe you could have erased away some of the blue at the top? XD there's just alot of bluee that's all, and we can't really see alot of adorably cuteee yunjaee picts! <3 AND LOOK im also using the yunjae lying down pic in my sig! they are TOOOO ADORABLE right?! ;D Anyways, i also think you could have found some stock pictures. like flowers, birds?, etc and blend with the bottom of the poster. idk it looks really plain compared to the top? BUT OVERALL. GREAT JOB and I WANNNA see MORE YUNJAEEEE!!! & ooh. is this poster for your newest ff?! ;D

the colorization i did .......... i don't really know, i hope it's good enough to participate in the challenge. i tried my best. i have to say i learned a lot from participating in the last challenge! they're so much fun i hope that AF holds these challenges all the time.

the scandalous affair poster is for my new fanfic, yes. and i know what you mean about jae's hand blocking the yunjae-ness! hahahaha i have another version without the 'bubbles' of the yunjae in it cause that was how it was suppose to be at first. but i just needed some yunjae so i put it on there. i understand totally on what you're saying, the two bubbles do look out of place. and i really like blue so i guess i didn't see too much blue when i made it. plus that pic of jae lying down is like to die for! omg! he's so hot! *faints*

the bottom part where it's just yun and jae... i tried to add other things in the background too... but as i did that nothing is good enough to be by my yunjae ... i mean our yunjae... so i took it out. i just like pure yunjae. if you notice i tend to just like my yunjae alone like that. they don't need anything to make them stand out. okay, this is a real crazy fangirl talking... sorry.

the poster of 'unknown path'... hahahhaa i had such a hard time finding louis pics! i really did. i spent 2 days looking for it, am not kidding at all. and i tried my best to erase the white around him but i really thought he needed that white around him... he kinda disappeared into the background when i changed the blending mode. hahahahhaa maybe that area of the pic was just too dark? if flowersphere wants me to change that part then i will change it. as of right now... i think i'll keep searching for a new hq pic of louis.

i'm sorry that i couldn't provide you with the quality pictures so you have to go look for them. I don't know which one i like more, they are both good in their own little way. Although the first one is lighter it makes them blend together and the title really pop out. While the other one even though it is darker it makes the poster seem more dramatic. I really like both of them, but I going to go with the second one... Thank you so much, especially when you makes more than one so that I can choose which one I like more.
