GG Jacky Cheung Won Best selling album 1995-1996 and sang in front of All the western superstars. Has Jay chou ever done that? No, ok gg. No one has ever broken that rec ever. Uh Jacky Cheung 2007-2008, 105 shows consecutively all of them FILLED, not one empty seat. Ok gg, no comparison. Jay Chou's concert = 1-2 per year or something.
Jacky Cheung Best album (Mandarin) IN CHINA, gg as well. Gold Song 4 times with Mr.Leon Lai Jai while Jay Chou hasn't won a single thing since like early 2006. GG, no god of song too?
1998 Jacky stated- "OK i'm not accepting any awards," Please do not give any more to me, i have too many already. While Jay is like "Omg please i need some awardS"

Um ok I believe jay chou was 2000 uh ok gg? Stop crying because you know Jacky Cheung will always and still is greater than Jay Chou will ever be. Because now, its JJ lin/david tao and such, no more Jay Chou. GG Contradictory ok gg
I find it funny that one can even compare Jay Chou to Jackie Cheung.
Jackie Chung is notably one of the best chinese singer alive. A legend.
He has been praised for his amazing vocal for years and still is now.
It is impossible to put any other Cantonese singer on par with Jackie Cheung.
Jay Chou is one of the prominent singer today comparable to others such as Edison Chen, Nicholas Tse, and many more who can not sing for jack sh*t. Jay Chou is famous for writing his own songs and performing some of the mainstream songs in Mainland since the 2000's.
More reputation.
Better vocal.
Cantonese + Mandarin.
Much more experience on/off stage.
Ok. Lets be fair here. Everyone can conclude that Jackie Cheung will destroy Jay Chou in terms of Cantonese songs. No doubt that Jackie Cheung excels in Canto song and that Jay Chou can not speak Cantonese. Nevertheless, Jackie Cheung can also sing adequately in Mandarin.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCdSHSNuQHUIn terms of Mandarin, I have to admit that Jackie Cheung does not sing as well as in Cantonese. So there, Jay Chou might questionably have the advantage. But, in terms of overall qualities as a singer, Jackie triumphs. Maybe in 10 years or so, Jay Chou might catch up. But I highly doubt it, because Jay Chou has already become a fad.

Voice - no contest.
Jacky's rip Jay Chou's voice to shreds. Sure, you may prefer Jay's voice more etc, but when it comes to vocal range, voice control and live vocals, those are not down to taste anymore. There's a reason why to this date, Jacky is still being called the "God of Song". Even the non-Jacky fans never criticized his voice..... but I hear that a lot about Jay and the way he pronounced his words sometimes make it so hard to understand him >.<
Anyone who has lived through BOTH Jacky and Jay's golden era will surely see how much more huge Jacky was, regardless of cantonese and mandarin songs. People still sing Jacky songs at karaoke now, even though it's past his "golden era", they are classics.

i'm surprised someone would compare these two singers together, because first, they are both from different time generation therefore music standards and tastes are different and second, they have totally different taste in music

Hm, if Jay Chou ever saw this thread, he'd pick Jacky Cheung, lol. Haven't you guys heard? Jay decided to compose popular music because of Jacky Cheung's "Wen Bie" (Kiss Good-bye), haha. (Please refer to Listen to Your Mom Ting Mama De Hua lyrics)
Vocals wise, it's definitely Jacky Cheung. He can turn a crappy song into a beautiful piece.
Plus, he also composed the music for Wen Bie, which is probably the only Chinese song ever to be covered by a Western group, Michael Learns To Rock. Ever heard of Take Me To Your Heart? That's the one. I think that's a huge accomplishment.
As for Jay Chou, you can deny his looks and vocals, but you can't deny the fact that he's got talent in composing music.

Jacky! His voice is just amazing. I was a huge fan of his when I was a kid... I love Jay Chou's music but not his singing (though he's improving with his mumbling)

for me, it will be jacky cheung.
vocal and singing wise --> jacky's voice is considered by most chinese music listeners as the best ever. he has very rich baritone voice with wide vocal range. moreover, his vibrato is very solid. as for jay chou, i think his voice is not good enough. his singing style is very lazy. during his live performance, he often runs out of breath. and his mumbling makes it even worse.
looks --> non of them look handsome, so it is hard to compare this. but i think jacky looks quite handsome during 90s. and jay chou is sort of cool, which hypnotised a lot of girls to fall in love with him
composing wise--> jay has the talent here. he composes a lot of songs for other singers. but it doesn't mean jacky is not good in this. in his album life is like a dream (2004), jacky composed and wrote all the songs, and he sometimes composes his songs in his other albums. but yeah, jay has better composing talent.
songs wise--> jacky wins. first of all, jacky has released more than 60 albums and his musical style ranging from ballad, rock, RnB, rock n roll, rap. his voice fits them all. no wonder he is called god of songs. as for jay, he has a lot of catchy songs, however, his songs sound so similar with each other. but jay's songs fit teenagers suit much more. i never see any people in 30s or 40s like jay chou songs, whereas jacky cheung's songs are liked by all ages.
even somebody in this topic mentioned if jay sees this thread, he will even pick jacky cheung.
so, isn't it obvious enough?
jacky cheung is the answer.

Wow, an obvious winner here isn't it?
Definitely Jacky Cheung.
Jay, only for his composition. Didn't he started out writing for others?
Mumbling as everyone says. He should really learn to sing properly.

Definately Jacky.....even with the songs that i never heard of i recognize his voice as that voice is his alones and no one else.....besides his vocals are strong and good.....and he sang it naturally and pulling you into his songs........
his every single songs in an album use to top the chart......and that prove how powerful he is.....
while jay....hmmm....ok give and take he is good in composing but singing wise he still far from where jacky stands....yes he has power over the language of Mandarin but by far Jacky mandarin songs didnt did as badly........anyway these two are from different era and different backgrounds so it isnt fair to compare the two of them....

You know omgbbq? Jay must definitely win! It's very important. BECAUSE YOU ARE FKING FANBOY. (Like the ones that don't even have a proper user name. Hilariuous) Only FANboys make such inrespectful, insensible and even illogical comparison. ITS TRUE U KNOW? ACTUALLY JAY SUCKS TILL THE END OF THE WORLD! In fact you are even better than him. Take care.
You know nuts about Jacky, not to mention his struggles.

iris_es, i also think that jay chou is overrated, but you should admit jay's forte in making music. at least you should spend time listen to his 'fantasy' album and 'eight dimension' album. those are his best works and i'd say those are wonderful. all the songs are on youtube. it may change your perception towards jay chou. jay isn't as terrible as you think. you underrated jay too much.

Jacky Cheung is definitely a better singer - his voice is so heavenly... I will never get tired of listening to his songs. Jay Chou... I don't think he's terrible, but I don't prefer to listen to his songs either.

jacky cheung has an amazing voice
but.. jay chou is more talented
he can sing, write, play act
bla bla but his voice isnt as good as jackys
though overall i like jay chou better
Def Jacky with out doubts. jay is good but if you compare him with jacky then i must say Jay have way to go.
First of all Jay sometimes mumble out the words and even "eat" up some words which is not ok for a singer. also he doesn't have the same wide tone as jacky.

totaly agree with that part, canto is much harder to sing compared to mado because there are more sounds in canto and also you need to use your vocal cord in a very different way compared to mandarin.
everyone should try themself to sing a canto song and a mandarin and you will feel the difference
