38th TVB anniversary awarded Gigi Lai as Best Actress of the Year 2004.

I think Sheren Tang deserves more than Gigi in this award.

I felt so dissapointed with the result.

I truly believe that the decision to give Gigi the award was made by the TVB executives rather than the audience.. I'm so upset that it was fixed..

Sheren deserved to win!!

TVB just wants to promote Gigi.. and that's why she won..

yeh....its kinda crap how so many of the awards in HK are fixed....not saying that some ppl who win don't deserve it....also did u notice how most of the main actors/actresses got some award during the night....

Maggie got the award last year, I believe. There was that whole scandal over how she and Charmaine were fighting over it.

But yes, I believe out of the five actresses, Sheren definitely deserved that award more. Her acting was simply superb and after years of hard work, I thought she should have won.

However, Gigi won and I guess we must leave it at that. Her acting certainly improved over the years and her depiction in War and Beauty definitely won her a lot of fans in Hong Kong. While I still feel that she overdone her 'gasping concubine' act a bit, the director did maintain that he wanted her to act like that - so I guess she was only following orders.

So yay for the winners and we'll just hold out hope that Sheren will win next year (though I suspect Charmaine will probably want to have a say).

i agree sheren acted so well in war and beauty, i loved her character, she should've won so dissapointed, even tho shes like saying shes not pissed and stuff but after she got the extrodinary female award she looked pretty pissed and dissapointed, but i think anyone else would b the same, i feel sry for her

Jessica was in the top 5 instead of Ada. From what I read, Ada did well in TCTU so it's a pity she wasn't in.

I was just so shocked that Ada didn't at least make it in the top 5. She should have been there instead of Kenix or Jessica I think.

it is rigged every single year for every single category since the inception of this TVB Anniversary cum Awards thingy.. TVB just does what it wants, without really bothering about the audience consensus..

but whether or not she deserves it or not or whether there are other truly deserving people out there is very subjective..

i was very sad if i heard that gigi won the award. i reallyyyyyyy hoped sheren would won the award. but i know tvb will always give the award to "young" stars.
hope next year sheren will win the award.

i don't get how gigi won. charmine was much better...gigi's crying scene was very fake and forced, compared to charmine's, which were very natural this time around. i also felt sheren did an excellent job, she so superior!

Of course Sheren Tang without a doubt! She should have won it by a mile. She was much better than Gigi Lai in War & Beauty. She really deserves it! I think it's quite hard for Sheren to win it next year cos she's much older than the other girls. But she should keep up the good work and play more good roles for us to admire! But what can you do when TVB fix the whole thing and give the award to Gigi. Rumours are that they wanted her to sign as a TVB artist in exchange for the award. Yeah, how comes Ada didn't get into the last 5. I feel sorry for her cos TCTU was really popular at the time and I thought she was great in it.

unless sheren has some other huge role and shows another amazing performance in an upcoming series i dont think she will win the award for next year, if she didnt get it this year because shes not "young" or some other stupid reason that tvb has then it would b pretty hard for her to win next year, which totally sucks by the way because i think she really deserved to win

Ada wasn't even in the top five even though she acted so well in TCTU let's face it all of these comes down to who the higher-ups want to promote.

In the acceptance speech. Bowie was so fake. He said he never thought about winning it when many articles mentioned he tries to pull strings to get the award. Gigi is so obnoxious. She said no one believed her, but finally she can show pride by winning an award. Like who cares no one believed her. Who wasn't doubted when they first enter the showbiz. Shw should grow up.

I agree, that bowie should have deserved the award so happy!, but yeah, the actress award did seem like it was fixed tho... but Gigi's not bad , and i don't think i saw maggie there during the anniversary...

I love Gigi, but I do think that Sheren deserves it more. She was really convincing! I hated her in the begining cause she was so evil and then I felt so badly for her when I found out why she did those things. Anyway, Gigi was annoying in WAR AND BEAUTY. Charmaine was cool too, but I didn't like how she pined over the doctor dude- not really that hot in the first place if you ask me.

Poor Sheren I think she will never win the fav actress award next time cos when opportunity slip it is hard to get another one. And I dont think next year TVB will come out with a good series like war and beauty(See the presentation sales clip already know). I think Sheren deserves it much more than Gigi and I think TVB want to promote Bowie and Gigi in HealingHands3 so they get the award.

Well, I don't think that sheren did better than Gigi or the vice versa because both of them did suberb and equally well. However I do feel disappointed that Ada was not in the final five. I can't help but ask why was she not in with her performance in TCTU and the fact that she was one of the hot favourites all along?

Both are great actress... I think Sheren done a bit better but Gigi not bad too.. after all this years of hardworking..... is great that she won too

i am watching war and beauty now and since a lot of people have complained that gigi lai's crying scenes were "so fake" ...i want to comment...if you've noticed, her character is supposed to be very deceiving and well fake (as that is not who she really is) because she wants people to think she's innocent and a crybaby...

like the one part when sheren was confronting her about what was written on gigi's fan...well to save her ass she's gotta cry but it don't gotta be genuine tears you know what i mean? its just some fake tears to save your ass...my sister does it all the time when she's in trouble...tahts why i think her tears were exaggerated...

charmaine on the other hand, her character isn't as two faced like gigi's...when she cries, her tears are suppose to be for real like when her one sister was being dragged out of the palace or when she was crying to her godfather...she does care for others besides herself unlike gigi's character so it is not surprising that her tears look more real

all the actresses (charmaine, sheren, gigi, maggie) gave excellent performances and i think maggie should of gotten an award even though she couldn't make it...
although i also thought sheren tang should have won the award but gigi lai is good in war and beauty too (and this if my first time watching gigi lai)...

people should raelly be complaining about why ada's rightful place in the top 5 was replaced by JESSICA HSUAN who does NOT deserve to be there...her characters are always the same and its boring...

also kenix too...people say she's the top actress but uhh i haven't seen anything so great about her acting...like in shine on you...what the hell michael tao (first time watching him act) was better than her...but yeah thats my opinions

I don't think Gigi deserved the award. It should have been either Charmaine or Sheren. Even though not much people praised Charmaine in WAB, but I think she did the best job next to Sheren. Gigi is nothing compared to the two of them.

Altho I think Gigi does deserve the award too, but i was kinda shocked to find that Sheren didn't get it, because i thought sheren was favoured by the audience more (haha, haven't watch the series yet, but from the feedbacks of the viewers, they LUV sheren's character) Newaiz, I think i once hrd from the news that one of this TVB manager guy said sth in his interview, that u can say TVB has the right to cheat w/ the result, so blah, favouritism

I think Gigi deserves to get the most famous actress of the year 2004 because it’s been 18 long years she worked at TVB and she never been recognized by the viewers. 18 years can you imagine that.!!!! If you have noticed her in other movies, you can see that she always give her very best in every character she has been playing. No matter what role she has to incarnate, she pulled herself to the maximum. In addition, how can you resist to such a beauty and charm. Congratulation to GiGi.

Gigi does not deserve the award at all. All the years of acting, she haven't improved much. She is the most annoying actress. I think either Charmaine or Sheren should win, but definitley not Gigi.






She's never been recognized by viewers because she's not a very good actress. Although, she's been acting for 18 years, she haven't improved on her acting skills. I don't think she deserve it.

okay, first of all... Gigi deserved this award, she was hard working in TVB, no doubt about it. But Sheren was hard working too, but she's kinda too cocky..

I think all the cast in War and Beauty did very well. Charmaine has improved a lot, but a lot, since her first series. As for Gigi, she didn't appear in a lot of series,but she did really great in that series acting as an innocent woman. However, i believe that Sheren has the best performance in that series. She was really into her role.



I don't agree with you that Gigi should deserve the award because she worked for TVB for a long time, because Sheren has worked for TVB a long time too. In fact, the award shouldn't be a recognition of how long they've work . It should recognize their performance in the series and i really believe Sheren did lot better than Gigi in War and Beauty.

every year is fixed gah lah..no need to really guess why.. its just the way big award shows ah.. i did thought sheren had a really good chance of winnin ..but ..oh well..guess is not what the audience wants but the ppl behind wants..

I think Sheren Tang should have won it. Her performance was much better than GIGI especially her character was challenging to perform. Furthermore, ICAC has not started an investigation into news that bribery was involved in the final voting. There were some inside news GIGI has given presents to high level personels.

i think i gigi dint do a really great job...as a lot of us here had said, i find her rather overacted..

i don't understand y she always need to yell at certain part of the series...anyway yue fei did a great job but i think on sim was great as well...

i haven't watch war and beauty yet (gosh....probably the only one on earth that hasn't watch it). the bashing about gigi and sheren - kind of put me off.

is this series really worth watching?

wow i agree with everything you mentioned. but seriously, gigi did not deserve the award. maggie should! her crying scene was the most emotional, heartbreaking, and real...as well as every other scenes, she gave a solid performance. don't know why jessica hsuan is #1, maybe because she's so popular and favoured among everyone. kenix...no clue how both of them topped ada. ada's character and performance was spectacular. the role suit her so well, and her tears flow so naturally. she's hilarious too...

Actually I found that Kenix acting wasnt that shine since she returned back to TVB after many years seems like not improved a lot and she seem to be carrying the almost identical role in the recent series. Just my opinion no offence to Kenix fan. Next year maybe she and charmine have a chance to win an best actress award cos both have quite some series with them but really have to see how they performed.

I totally agree with all those that said Ada should have a place in the top five - her acting in TCTU was superb, and so real - her role in the series really gave me a good laugh.

As for whether Gigi should've gotten the top female lead, I kinda have to agree with all those that have said that her "gasping" is kind of annoying at times. And Sheren Tang did do a magnificent job.

As for Maggie not getting the award because she wasn't there.. well, didn't Dodo get it for War of Genders one year... but she wasnt' there because she was at a performance or something? But I do agree taht Maggie should at least get a mention -.- I don't particularly like her, but her acting was great in WAB, as per usual.

I think Gigi Lai is good in War and Beauty, but not good as sheren Tang I feel so sad for Sheren Tang and so disappointed with TVB.

i believe "YU FEI" deserves the best actress!!! bc i think gigi acted too sarcastic.. maybe its the script but i like YU FEI more.. she shud be the best actress

It's not like Gigi doesn't deserve an award. She's a good actor, but I think she's not the best that year. Since this is all rigged, so I won't put too much energy into this.

Maggie character in WAB is not that outstanding but she is the key person in this series. Without her it will be different in WAB but actually WAB success is not just individual but the whole cast that brought up the series so well done everyone in WAB. Maggie already give her best out of her role and we can see another level of her acting well cheers to Maggie and all the cast in WAB.

Sheren's always been great. She's a very good actress. I think it's true that since she's older than the rest of the girls it's harder for TVB to have a reason to promote her. Sucks though. The award should always go to the true "BEST ACTRESS" for that year.

Dayo Wong looks weird in the TVB 38th Anniversary thing, like a old man in that costume. His acting is okie. Never saw him act in a really serious drama so I can't say if he's a very good actor or not. I think Bowie deserve that Best Male Actor Award.

I don't think Gigi deserved that award. She probably should have like gotten the Improvement Award. Sheren should have gotten the award right off the bat. Her acting was superior in this serie. Gigi looks so fake when she cries in War and Beauty. That overacting make her suck.

IMO Sheren was acting much better then Gigi. Even Sharmaine and Maggie where better than her... It is said that she only won because she signed a contract with TVB

Sheren Tang deserved the best actress award but I guess TVB only gives awards to people who give them 'lei yik' which totally defeats the purpose of these awards

I think both Sheren and Gigi deserves to win, unfortunately, there's only one award to give out.

Gigi is a very talented actress. She can play all sorts of roles (good and evil). I saw her in Fate Twisters and man was she evil. Cunning and manipulative. She pulled it off too. Hence, I think she deserve to win.

i think Sheren act very well at WAB and i think she deserve the award although i personally hope Charmaine will get the award!! never thought gigi will get the award instead!! no offence!!

i'm glad gigi won because when they annouced bowie won over dayo, i new there was no hope for the awards. this way i can dislike both the best actor and best actress. if sheren won, tvb wouldn't be able to justify bowie's win because that was about contract negoitiations as well.
