Twilight actor Robert Pattinson has to try and ignore the hate mail he gets and instead focus on all the positive letters and cards from his true fans.

As soon as he was given the part of Edward Cullen he started to receive a lot of abuse from hardcore Twilight fans.

Robert explained all to the Big Issue: "People sent me hate mail, and the internet was full of messages from Twilight fans who didn't want me.

"They said I looked like a bum. My mother told me she had read online that I was wretched and ugly and had the face of a gargoyle."

Robert soon found himself more popular once the Twilight trailer came out.

He says: "Stephanie (the author of Twilight) helped me out by giving me her seal of approval, and then the trailer came out and everything turned around.

"I started getting love letters and fan mail instead of hate mail."

im suprised there was such an anti-patterson movement, i only watched the movie because he was in it.

Edward's made out to be this AMAZING out of this world guy.. and they probably thought that he was nowhere near good enough for the role.

Wow, some fans can really be a bit too over the board to have so much time to send hate letters. I watched the movie because my friend liked the book and we both though thought the trailer looked really cool.

Maybe I can see why huge Twilight fans would also do that since I'm not a fan of him in pictures xD.

I think it is fair to have opposite opinions on things but sending hate letters is kind off mean. If you don't like the movie, then don't watch it!

when i read the news he got the edward cullen part, i was neutral... then i loved him after seeing the trailers.. but after watching the whole movie.. i thought he didnt quite cut the role of edward.. so now im back to being indifferent to him

i'm a twilight fan and i think he's the perfect edward..

robert pattinson in real life does sorta look like a homeless guy though.. but thats just his "look"

i really love the Edward Cullen character and hoped that if it was adapted into a movie, the guy who'll portray it would be really "god-like". i wasn't really satisfied, though i have nothing against it, with Rob playing as Edward. But i admit, i liked him more since then. though i still prefer his Cedric Diggory looks lol

it is not easy to please everyone...
different people, different perspective.
Initially, i also find him ugly (i'm sorry about this).
But as the movie goes on, he get more handsome. That fine with him for the role.

Hahaha loved the last sentence. Well, I suppose the book described Edward really perfectly gorgeous, and yeah, Robert isn't exactly "perfectly gorgeous", that's why fans got disappointed. But actually, he's really a good choice as Edward. And he looks BETTER and better in the movie. Hahaha...

he was prefect for the role edward in twilight.. dunno why ppl hate him, theya re probaly just jealous of him haha, go edward! i will support u til the end.. hes so hot btw
