<Rosy Business> received rave reviews and is very popular. Unfortunately, it’s not known when its sequel will be filmed. It’s not known how long we have to wait for it.

Can’t wait? Don’t worry, TVB urgently launched Producer Lee Tim Sing’s old production <Sweetness in the Salt>. It has the similar word “Hiu” in its title, and was similarly about one of human’s primary needs. This time, the topic is on salt.

This time, the main characters are not Chai Gau, Fourth Mistress, but Anti-Smuggling Police Steven ma and a salt smuggler’s daughter Tavia Yeung. The two were lovers turned enemies. Steven Ma even became Tavia Yeung’s enemy for killing Tavia’s whole clan. Loving but also hating, any less acting skill will turn out to be a disaster, will they have chance to pit against Wayne Lai and Sheren Tang in the TVB Anniversary?

The ending of <Rosy Business> last week caused a “Chai Gau’s heat”. The ending reached rating of 43 points, causing the price of the acting talent batch Wayne Lai and Sheren Tang to skyrocket. However, <Rosy Business 2> which has been early rumoured is only on planning stage. It’s predicted that audiences still need to wait for at least another year. TVB decides to ride on <Rosy Business’> power and immediately launched Rosy Business’ Producer Lee Tim Sing’s old series <Sweetness in the Salt>, to ease the thirst of audiences who are still thirsty after 25 episodes of <Rosy>.

<Sweetness in the Salt> is actually a series which Lee Tim Sing has completed its production in the early last year and has been broadcasted overseas earlier. Originally, the series has become TVB’s warehoused stock, but because <Rosy Business> became a big hit, Lee Tim Sing was highly regarded. Including <Man In Charge>, <Sweetness in the Salt> is already the third series of Producer Lee Tim Sing which TVB broadcast consecutively.

Although it is not <Rosy Business 2>, <Sweetness in the Salt> remained similar to it. Other than sharing the word “Hiu”, the setting of <Sweetness> is also in Dynasty Ching. Although the main characters Tavia Yeung and Raymond Wong do not sell rice, but what they sell is also one of human’s primary needs, salt. The series also have scenes of the struggles between merchants and officials. Lee Tim Sing’s favourites, Kwok Fung, Kara Hui, Kanin Ngo all have a lot of screentime. <Sweetness> can be considered as a varied version of <Rosy Business>.

Of course, not all the storyline and characters of <Sweetness in the Salt> are similar to <Rosy Business>, the main plot centred around the romance between Steven Ma and Tavia Yeung. Steven Ma, who was the head police of Anti-Smuggling department, became undercover in the Dao Salt village in order to smash the salt smuggling camp. He developed romance with the chief of salt smuggler’s daughter Tavia Yeung. Later, the government eliminated the salt smuggling camp. After being separated from Steven Ma, Tavia Yeung was saved by the young master of a salt merchant Raymond Wong. The lover became the enemy for killing her whole clan. Of course Tavia hated Steven Ma deeply. She thought of revenging days and nights. Raymond Wong also entered the gaps between them. The three developed a triangle relationship.

The most challenging role in <Rosy Business> is the Fourth Mistress Sheren Tang. This time, Tavia Yeung’s character would love and hate, seemed like it is even more challenging than the Fourth Mistress. Will Tavia Yeung, who won last year’s TVB Anniversary’s Best Supporting Actress award, win the TV Queen title over Sheren Tang? Let’s see whether <Sweetness in the Salt>’s rating will beat <Rosy Business>’.

One of TVB’s golden Producer Lee Tim Sing started filming series for TVB since 1978. Having filmed a lot of Jin Yong’s novel adaptations, he especially appreciated a batch of talented veterans. Safeguards (2006) earned 34 points in ratings without the guarantee of big casts. He also particularly loved Wayne Lai, Kwok Fung, Kara Hui, Lau Kong, etc. His drama will always have them in the casts.

Well, I haven't finished watching RB, but from the first episode I do like it. But I do agree that I'm annoyed at the prejudice people at HK discuss forum are giving SITS for its love triangle. It may not be as boring as they think it will be (since a lot of triangle relationship has been pretty boring in TVB i.e. HOG and MR, but this one I don't find so). And what's wrong with a young batch of good-looking guys and girls having romance between them? It's only natural.

I think people are comparing between the two because the media AND TVB keep saying/'selling' SITS as the second RB. So it's TVB's fault to start with.



Maybe Tavia is feeling the pressure across HK due to SITS... I'm joking, but then again, it isn't impossible.

Littlefish in tavia.org sorta confirmed that Kenneth is added to the cast, but like you said, he is going to be busy filming Iron Horse. Maybe he will guest star like you said. But I was kinda hoping Kenneth gets a chance to have a proper collaboration with Tavia, since their last collaboration was so long ago (EH) and they didn't even have much scenes or interactions together. I don't think gueststarring justify Kenneth's request of collaborating with Tavia. But I guess they still have chance to collaborate in the future.

sandalls, thanks. I have edited the Raymond, this is what happened when I translate at very late at night and I guess I'm too used to typing Raymond Lam. As for the title, it's not really Rosy Business vs Sweetness in the Salt. The translation may sound weird, but it means to say Rosy Business but Sweetness in the Salt's team, which is like saying Sweetness in the Salt is another version of Rosy Business.

I think most netizens will be watching it for the artistes/story more than because it is tied to Rosy Business, so if that proves true, I also hope TVB will realise that, and recognise SITS in its own merits. After all, it did do well overseas without the hype of RB.

The media does give SITS + the casts lots of pressures and I hope the series will do well. If the ratings are not high, I hope they won't blame it on Tavia b/c she's the leading. Akazukin: I think the chinese saying 'let it flow' is suitable. Don't get too caught up and personal about SITS. As a fan, I say RB is very deserving for its ratings and it is overall the better series. I'm personally just happy they are at least airing Tavia's series giving her more exposure. We all know Sheren is the better actress, but that is to be expected from her experience etc. Tavia has done a wonderful job, and I doubt anyone will say her acting in SITS is anything short of a MR. Relax, Tavia has Beyond to showcase her skill and the new Modern series with Ray coming up. Even if SITS fails, she'll have those two series to back it up. I daresay, the modern series will have good promotional activity, if the cast is true. We all know how TVB treats Ray especially.

Its not like Tavia's career is dependent on SITS, I think if I have to worry, I'll worry for Raymond Wong instead. I'll feel sorry for him because its his biggest breakthrough yet and if the rating is a let down...

Well, that's how the magazine claimed it to be, SITS as Tavia's exam. I wouldn't worry about Raymond Wong since there has been no expectation given on him, so he has nothing to lose. I guess the reason I'm worried is because I know that RB is a better series than SITS (even though I haven't watched RB, just bought its DVD, I'll see how I think of it once I watch it). It's hard not to worry considering this is the official first time that Tavia is leading the series. Yeah, she still has BTROC, SOL, and the upcoming series with Ray and Kenneth, but she is not the first lead in BTROC, and who knows what may happen to SOL and the upcoming series if she doesn't "pass" this exam. Of course, I hope the magazine to only talk nonsense about it being Tavia's exam. Like abhor said, the magazine is a notorious one, so I should not take it too seriously. But sometimes, when you read comments in hk discuss forum, you can't help but to be afraid. But then, someone told me before that the comments in SITS thread in hk discuss forum are written by fans of certain someone, so I should not be too worried too. I guess part of my worries come from worries that people are not watching and enjoying SITS due to their prejudice from RB. I just think it will be a huge pity if people are not enjoying due to this reason since SITS standing alone is an overall enjoyable series.

Anyway, I just hope they don't give too much pressures to Tavia. If I'm feeling this pressure, less to say what Tavia would feel. But I should stop complaining. The result is going to come out within this month.

I'm not too worried about ratings or comparisons for now... I'm very happy to see this series released in HK because it was a great series... I've also seen other trailers of the series on baidu and tvb have done well with making it attractive and attention grabbing because its certainly making me wanna watch the series again lol! btw its said that bloopers were also released...I hope tvb.com's official youtube page posts those bloopers and interviews the cast about their characters and special and unforgettable moments...

Despite my worries, I'm very thankful that SITS gets the chance to air in HK's jade channel. Yeah, I read that they are releasing bloopers too, but I can't find it. Hopefully, they will include many bloopers and many nice ones.

artbox, its actually not the first time that Tavia has sung in Madarin... I believe that she sings Teresa Teng's 'Wo Ji Zai Fu Ni" at international functions and I believe that its on youtube also... I think that all three have done well considering the little time given for rehersals and all (since they're all busy doing other series and taking time off etc)... hahaha I'm not familiar with Korean actors or actresses but I'm sure that Tavia would have chosen a good looking one lol!

LOL, artbox, yeah, Tavia's favourite song to perform is Lifetime Beauty, but she has sung other songs as well. I actually liked her singing red green light during the NY countdown with Bosco (even though she forgot the lyrics half way, but it is a bonus seeing Bosco coming to her rescue). The moment they took the interview was a bit awkward, I think because of the language barrier. It's already a problem that they can't speak in Korea that they need a translator, but the translator also can only speak in mandarin which they are not very fluent in.

Maybe Tavia was tired, but then Charmaine looked cheerful enough, and usually Tavia is more jumpy and not any less cheerful than Charmaine, so I can definitely feel that she is less cheerful than her usual.

Anyway, the song sounds good overall, fits the mood and theme. But are they lipsync-ing? 'Cause it sounds too good to be live.

hahaha Akane, my chinese is not fantastic, but basically, people are generally attracted to the plot and its only the first episode, therefore they can't wait for more... a lot of Raymond Wong and Tavia supporters lol! people have also been talking about the lack of screentime Steven has and anticipate when Tavia seeks revenge on Steven...

I feel like re-watching it too...just then i saw some people praise the way Tavia cried-think is the part where she saw Steven and her parents' dead bodies...so far i think a lot people are paying attention to Raymond...poor Steven, not much negative say about Tavia's acting, just people keep saying she doesnt gv them a 1st lead impression
