What feeling do you get when a celebirties family member, such as a sibling decide to join the entertainment circle?
They usually burn out within 6 months, why is that?

yes, i agree. usually they don't get as popular as their siblings. i guess that is just the trend.- and sometimes it might take a while for them to get up there.

well i think.. most of the times for those siblings cases.. one of them will be more popular, whereas the other one is least popular..

Cheng Pei Pei is Cheng Pui Pui in Cantonese, a famous martial arts movies actress in the 60s. If you saw Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, she was the evil teacher of Zhang Zi Yi.

Marsha Yuen is Yuen Jee Wai, first runner-up Miss HK in 1999 (same year as Sonija and Myolie). If you saw War of Genders, she's Yuen Yuen there.

Eugenia Yuen is Yuen Lai Kei, she was in the movie Three with Leon, portraying a dead corpse. She won an award for that. Hope that helps.

Director/Actor Vincent Kok Tak-Chiu is the uncle of actress Kok Jo-Lam.

Anyway, I think family members burn out because they are constantly being compared to their more famous family member. So they're always living in someone else's shadow. Unless they work really hard to establish a name for themselves and carve their own niche, it will never work out. The person who appeared on the scene (and achieved popularity) first will always have more success.

It's a little easier for children for celebrities to be successful because there's that generation gap between the parernts and children. In most cases, both people are trying to appeal to different audiences. For example, our parents' generation may remember Patrick Tse and love him for his persona as the always suave "4 Gor", but our generation would be more into Nic Tse, because Nic is more "cool" and "hip." But in the case of siblings, both people would be trying to appeal to the same generation of audience. For example, with Edison and Tricia (or even Kelly and Victor). Edison has already achieved idol status. For his sister to try to break into the industry (especially as a pop star, same as her brother), people would only know her and recognizer as "Edison's little sister," and thus, she will constantly be compared to and expected to live up to Edison. It'd be hard for her to be recognized as anything other than "Edison's little sister." The only time I can see a sibling making it the entertainment industry after one sibling has already achieved fame is if both siblings mark their respective territories, e.g. one sings, one acts, and neither cross the boundaries. But in HK, there's so much crossover going on that that's nearly impossible to do. And even if it does work out, one sibling will still be more famous than the other.

There are famous siblings though. Paul Chun, John Chiang, and Derek Yee are brothers (or half brothers). The way they made it work is that Derek mostly directs, while Paul and John act, so I'm just going to compare Paul and John. John specializes in martial arts films; Paul doesn't touch martial arts. The two (as far as I know) have never collaborated, and that way, the two have their own respective niches -- they appeal to different audiences and therefore get different types of jobs -- so they can coexist. These brothers are the only siblings I can think of who've coexisted over the years, but I'm sure there are others out there.

John Chiang and Paul Chun are brothers?!!

Well, it seems like I'm the one now who's been living under a rock all this time

But yeah - both are great actors - John Chiang nailed his role as Cheng Wing Fat in RDOV, and Paul Chun has always been great in all his series, LOL. Both were nominated as Best Supporting Male last year at the TVB anni. Both are just as talented. Dont' think the fact that they are brothers really matter.
