WINNERS! AF Blend Challenges [81-85]!

Hooray! A huge thank you to everyone for participating... AND voting... and to our secret panel of judges for donating their time as well

A lot of the categories were super-hard to decide... great artwork from everyone!

Challenge 81: Raymond Lam (Icon)

Judge 1: The icon has a nice cropping style, and the duplicate of Raymond's picture was placed just right. The red glow gives a nice final touch to the icon.

Judge 2: I LOVE the color of this icon. I love stuff that captures my attention at first glance, but then has multiple layers to it to discover as you look at it more. This Icon definitely qualifies as one of those! I think the "shadow" of Raymond is really what sets this avatar apart. I think it's what makes the icon and completes the overall excited and light-hearted feel.

Judge 3: I love the layout of this icon. The multiples of Raymond, as well as the fading squares just work extremely well together. The pink light and "glow" of the squares also sets the tone of the icon extremely well.

Judge 1: I love the eclectic nature of your avatar and the coloring. It has a very "Pop-Art" feel to it that gives it an edge.

Judge 2: This icon really stands out from the rest, with the cut out of Raymond's picture. The background is also cute with the blue texture that is attention-grabbing. Everything about this icon is great.

Judge 3: I love the tilted placement of Raymond. The textures you chose, and the nice little splash of lighting at the bottom are sort of unconventional... and yet they all work together really well!

Judge 1: I think this is one of those "effortless" icons... almost deceptively "simple"... even though it's clear that you've put a lot of thought into it. The coloring you've done is great (not to mention different), and the flecks of light you've paired with it complement the green tint perfectly. Very nice use of textures!

Judge 2: The placement of texture was nice. Good usage of light texture.

Judge 1: Coloring of the icon is really vibrant and daring. Placement of text is creative.

Judge 2: Very, very good usage of light... love the light hugging the bottom of the icon. The whole icon is tied together very nicely by the text.

Challenge 82: Show Lo (Set)

First Place: hang08

Comments

Judge 1: The color that this contestant used was very different from the other entries. The font used was also very different. This entry definitely caught my eye.

Judge 2: I fell in LOVE with your set! Wholeheartedly! I LOVE anyone who makes graphics using black and white. It's so dramatic and moving, and it's really hard to get right. You got it right. I LOVED the juxtaposition of the black and white with the bright florescent colors! It was so captivating.
However, I think the white cloudy parts overlaying the bright colors are a bit awkward, and the word choice "super fly" doesn't seem to suit the image.

Judge 3: One-of-a-kind banner. The contrasting colors work really well with the black and white Show picture. Icon and banner matched really well, even though it wasn't necessary.

Judge 1: The cut-out of Show for the banner and making it many duplicate is really creative; the use of texture is really good as well.

Judge 2: I love everything about this set. Everything seems to match effortlessly... from the checkers in the icon to the cool blue shades and grunge fonts and textures in the banner. Very creative and very cool.

Judge 1: Nice coloring and great attempt for the filtering on the banner.

Judge 2: I really like the colors and the brightness of this banner. It's almost like Show is "glowing."

Judge 1: I think the text and the placing/incline of it really make this banner. They match Show's pose really well, and yet, it's not a very "obvious" thing to do. I like the different style and feel of this.

Judge 2: Cool banner with the duplicates fading in the background.

Challenge 83: Ayumi Hamasaki (Icon Coloring)

First Place: hang08

Judge 1: Cropping of icon is the most daring out of the other participants. Face crops are pretty hard to make it look nice, but the first and third icon were well-cropped.

Judge 2: I really love the dimension your coloring gave to your icons, but I felt that it got a bit blown out in the process. Her hair looks fantastic, but the mouth is extremely awkward.

Judge 3: Your cropping definitely caught my eye; they're all nice, but I admit to being partial to the first one. The coloring also makes Ayumi pop; even though it's similar coloring on all the icons, the different crops emphasize different features, and the colors wind up working differently. Great job!

Judge 1: Though the cropping was rather simple, the coloring is great!

Judge 2: I like that you colored three completely different pictures... and they still wind up looking "matched," somehow. My favorite is the second icon. The jewelry pops, and the tint of the light on her hair is really lovely.

Judge 1: I LOVED your set. I thought they were attention grabbing, well-cropped, and extremely dramatic (I'm a sucker for dramatic stuff). I'm amazed by the definining lines (how it gets slightly darker around the edges of her skin) outlining Ayumi's face/body. I think that's what makes this set stand out!

Judge 2: The vibrant coloring was definitely eye-catching.

Challenge 84: Themed Blend

First Place: ★VxIahsu

Comments

Judge 1: The color was very nice; I like the black and blue contrast :] The pictures used were very nice: everyone is smiling and looks like they are having fun!

Judge 2: I love your use of light and light textures! The slight transparency of everything also works really well

Judge 3: The polaroids are creative. Great blending with the background especially when the background is pretty hard to blend.

Challenge 85: Kim So Eun (Colorization)

First Place: JeMun

Judge 1: I really like this colorization. The color that was used made her look very natural.

Judge 2: Colorization is just amazing. The natural skin tone you captured it well, and the light makeup was gorgeous. Loving the lips color.

Judge 3: The highlights are really cool and I love how subtile your work is. I'm sorry I don't know a lot about colorization so I can't make any constructive comments. I really do like your work though!

Judge 1: It looks more like a profession photoshoot... especially the makeup on her: it's bold and daring.

Judge 2: I love the auburn shade you chose for her hair; the make-up goes really well with it, too... particularly the slightly peachy lip color. She looks gorgeous!

Judge 1: I love purple, so Kim So Eun's look in your colorization is really doing it for me. I especially love the eyeliner you've given her

The highlights are a nice touch as well

Judge 2: The highlights on the hair and eyeliner caught my attention the most. Good job!

In addition to our "regular" challenges, we also held a competition for Blend Of the Month.

Judge 1: LOVED the creativity of the Show set! It was really impressive!

Judge 2: Really loved the Show set... it seemed like a very thoughtful design, and it worked in a lot of different ways. Hope to see more from you next time!

Judge 3: Show banner was impressive. I love how she managed to use the many duplicates of Show in one banner.
