(12/2/2004) Andy Lau Tak Wa, Joey Yung Cho Yi, and Edison Chan Koon Hei yesterday attended the 27th annual Top Ten Chinese Gold Song press conference.

Wa Jai revealed that during his first concert, the record company arranged for Prudence Lau Mei Kwan, Alex To Tak Wai and Sandy Lam Yik Lin to perform with him. Producer To Ji Chi saw that he was distracted at studio rehearsal and randomly picked up an ashtray to throw at Wa Jai. Luckily he ducked. At the press conference, assistant broadcast authority chief (television) Cheung Man Sun took a jab at Mrs. Lei Hau Wo's early hint of Wa Jai's award. He said to Wa Jai, "Anyone who sees you knows that you are a hard working singer, but I don't personally present the award to you because we have guest presenters every year. We are not TVB!"

Cheung Man Sun announced that this year 111 songs are eligible to be the Top Ten Gold Songs. Kelly Chan Wai Lam led with six songs while Joey Yung Cho Yi had five. Edison Chan Koon Hei, Hacken Lee Hark Kun and Leo Ku Kui Ke each had four. Andy Hui Chi On and Wa Jai had 3.5 songs. 20 new comers are in the running for the new artist award. The show will also remember James Wong Jim.
Joey yesterday revealed that she has been busy looking for clothes for the award shows. Her concert costume designer pointed out that she could not wear anything too simple or conservative, her limbs have to show no matter what. "Definitely nothing that drags on the ground, I am afraid of stepping on it and falling on the stage. It will be very awkward! I think the designer knows my figure well. He knows what flaws to hide and what to bring attention to. (Which part of your body do you feel is the best?) The chest, definitely......or the big toe, haha!"

Does anyone know if there would be some clips or something of that sort for download somewhere sometime?? I couldn't watch it on my side of the world, but would love to see... at least those parts with Andy cool.gif

clapping.gif Andy lau is so cool! He got the Golden Horse Best leading Actor Award at last...
he really deserve this, even though the panel made him wait for more than 3 years. This is the moment to celebrate! He was truly not only a handsome Hongkong idol but also a star that has excellant acting skills... bravo!

Please give some opinions and words of encouragement to mr. Andy Lau.

I'm giving my opinions everywhere, on every forum, in every topic, I'm starting to repeat myself laugh.gif

What can I say: I would be disappointed if he wouldn't get it. It's not that I don't think others are worse actors or something, no no no no... It's just that Ming was a difficult and complicated role to play and Andy did it perfectly. Every face expression was clear to read, whatever was happening in lost and not exactly sane in the end Ming's mind - it was clear and obvious. Gee, this guy even managed to force himself to cry, because the role needed it (not the first time however biggrin.gif).

Saturday was just a great day for me... for Andy... I like good news cool.gif

[Ta Kung Pao 19/12/04]

The "TVB8 Music Awards" ceremony was held at TVB City two nights ago, with the show's emphasis on Mandarin songs, there were singers present from both Hong Kong and Taiwan, including Andy Lau, Joey Yung, Gigi Leung, Hacken Lee, Nic Tse, Twins, Jolin Tsai, S.H.E, Zhang Zhao Han and Alan Law. Andy Lau was the big winner of the evening, taking six awards, inlcuidng the two major male singer awards: "Mainland Audience Most Popular Male Singer" and "Most Popular Male singer". The "Mainland Audience Most Popular Female Singer" award went to Joey Yung, whilst the "Most Popular Female Singer" was won by Jolin Tsai. Originally, the award for "Best Group" was to be presented to FIR, but as they were absent from the event, they were disqualified.

As well as taking the two awards for most popular male singer, Andy also took four other awards, which were "Golden Hit", "Best Lyrics", "Worldwide Most Popular Cantonese Song" and "Best Music Video Performance", leaving him very happy indeed. When the two MC's Derek Li and Tweety Ding presented Andy with the award, they joked about the incident involving Chiling Lin at the Golden Horse Movie Awards where she stripped off to give him a congratulatory hug. Derek laughed and asked Tweety if she would do the same, to which she replied laughingly that she did not need to take her clothes off for it. Andy then joked: "In that case I will take mine off then!" before giving Tweety a hug and causing many laughs.

Out of his six awards, Andy was most pleased to receive the award for best lyrics in his song "Fortune is so far and yet so close" and he laughs that a kind heart is well repayed as this song was especially writeen for visually impaired children. With his great success and a premature congratulatory message from TVB boss Mrs Li Hau Wo, it would seem that Andy is well in line to take this year's "Jade Solid Gold" award, but Andy hopes that everyone will not give him too much pressure as this is all speculation from the media.

Andy has had a lot of good news recently, with his new film "A World Without Thieves" grossing $57 million in its first week making him extremely pleased and breaking all records for director Feng Xiao Gang. Andy says that he will be paying for Feng to go on vacation in Gansu. He also admits that he would like to work with co-star Ge You again in a comedy.

In memory of the late creative genius James Wong, the ceremony invited veteran singers Johnny Yip and Rebecca Pan to sing some of Uncle Jim's creations including "Forget the Love in your Heart" and "Loving You becomes Trapping You".

Joey Yung took awards for "TVB8 Golden Hit" and "Mainland Audience Most Popular Female Singer". Although she missed out on the overall Most Popular Female award that went to Jolin Tsai, she was not disappointed and felt that to take the mainland award already made her very happy because the market there is very big and to break into it is not easy.

With the song "Girl who Spreads her Wings" (Mandarin version of "My Pride"), Joey has managed to make her name in Mainland China and with that has come a string of stage performances and advertisement jobs and she will later also appear on CCTV's Chinese New Year event, who have insisted that she sings this song. Talking of not being able to take the double like Andy, Joey smiles: "I never even thought I would take a Cantonese award, so I am very happy already and even the rice that was in my mouth nearly fell out!"

Twins also took three awards, including a "Golden Hit", "Worldwide Most Popular Cantonese Song" and "Best Group Silver Award". When it was mentioned that the Gold award went to S.H.E, Twins say that this is because they did not release a Mandarin album this year and the market of S.H.E is much larger.

Nic received an award, but he did not perform and when asked why, he explained that he was not well and was not prepared to mime the performance, so he would rather not sing. He says that he knows his own limits and was disappointed he could not perform. He was actually surprised he received an ward because he has only released one album this year and it was not heavily promoted.

Hacken Lee has taken a Cantonese award for the third year running, but he felt rather awkward about it because after all this was a Mandarin Songs awards ceremony and he was only taking awards for Cantonese songs every year. In order to avoid limiting himself to only being a Cantonese singer, then he swears that he will have a Mandarin song up for an award next year.

Hacken has not released a Mandarin album now for six or seven years aand he says: "For the album that will be released at the end of the year, I had originally planned to have half Cantonese and half Mandarin songs on it, but I have been too busy and could not arrange this, so I had to postpone the Mandarin album project until next year."

There are suggestions that Hacken can try for the 'newcomer' award next year with his new Mandarin album and he laughs: "I have already won that and it is my only Mandarin song award. I remember I was in the industry for ten years before I got the chance to record a Mandarin album and at the time I won a newcomers award in Singapore with this and was presented with my award from Faye Wong, who made fun of me." Hacken jokes that when he releases his album next year, he will challenge Andy and work towards the title of "Most Popular Male Singer in Asia".

[Ta Kung Pao 20/12/04]

Hacken Lee recently invited Andy Lau to film a series of special interviews for TVB's "Jade Starbiz" and Andy brought along a pack of cards to read Hacken's fortune and indicated that this year's "Jade Solid Gold Most Popular Male Singer" will go to Hacken.

Andy says he is an expert fortune reader and did a reading for Hacken's luck this year to see whether he would take the JSG award for the third year running. Hacken was rather shocked by Andy's actions, but followed his instructions. Andy first dealt the cards and asked Hacken to choose, saying to him: "The cards you choose represent the steps in your life where you choose your own destiny. Take your time and choose carefully. If the card left at the bottom is the Ace of Spades, then you will definitely win the award and I will have to stand aside. Haha! If the card is not the Ace of Spades, then you have to let me win the award. Hahaha..."

After Hacken had chosen a large pile of cards, the last card remained and Andy called out: "It looks like I will have to step down now! Haha!" Then he picked up the Ace of Spades and passed it to Hacken saying: "Congratulations! It's yours!" At first Hacken dare not take it and asked Andy if this was a magic trick. Andy replied: "Keep the card. I hope that it will bring you good luck for your new album and the awards ceremonies at the end of the year." This is not magic, it is foretelling te future. Haha!"

Hacken was very touched when he heard this and immediately took the card, saying: "Master Lau, do I need to take it home and boil it up with a bowl of water and then pour it away before sticking the card over my bed?" Andy replied: "Don't throw the water away, you drink a little first, then share it with all the other singers. It is more fun when everyone gets an award!"

Hacken says that Andy has always been a good supportive friend to him, but he never thought that Andy would use this magic trick to give him encouragement. Whether or not he wins the award this year is not important, the most important thing is that he can always have a good friend like Andy. Andy adds: "Of course I will support Hacken, he deserves everything and this year's achievements together with all his experience over the years puts him at the top of the younger generation of singers. If you ask me, then I think he will win it this year. He is the only person I would feel justified losing out to. Haha!"

(12/27/2004) The year's first report card for the music industry, Metro Hit Radio Award 2004 took night two nights ago. 104 awards were presented and Andy Lau Tak Wa won the Hit Male Singer award for a record sixth time.

Lau Tak Wa, Andy Hui Chi On and Joey Yung Cho Yi each won seven awards as the big winners. Hacken Lee Hark Kun received six and a half award. Leo Ku Kui Ke won five, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa four, Twins won 3 and 1/3 awards, Kelly Chan Wai Lam, Jolin Tsai (Choi Yi Lam) and Gigi Leung Wing Kei each won three. Last night the event presented the Metro Hit Radio Honorary Award to the late James Wong Jim. Uncle Jim's daughter Wong Yu Si accepted on his behalf. "We three siblings are proud of Daddy's musical achievements."

The Metro Hit Radio Male Singer award went from the original three to five prizes, allowing Lau Tak Wa to break the record and the New Four Great Heavenly Kings to each receive one. Edmond Leung Hon Man was a little behind out of the five with only two awards. Fiona Sit Hoi Kei had the best performance out of the new comers with three awards. Wa Jai after winning seven awards said, "Doesn't it seem a little too much? Over the years everyone's love for me, I can feel it. Hopefully it will last to 2006. After 20 years in the business I can still win so many awards. This can't be topped."

The event in order to give everyone an award split many categories. The most exaggerated of which was the five way split of the Metro Hit Radio Original Song award.

The event added several live voting awards, including the My Most Admired new Male Singer (Wilfred Lau Ho Lung), Female Singer (Fiona Sit Hoi Kei), Group (Ping Pung) and My Most Admired Song (LOVE AND HONESTY). None of those awards counted toward the Media Award.

He is one of the best actor I have seen over last 10 years.
He is almost perfect, sing good and acting good.
Handsome guy and seems to me he is a friendly person.

(12/28/2004) Andy Hui Chi On, Andy Lau Tak Wa, and Joey Yung Cho Yi two nights ago at the Metro Hit Radio Award 2004 won seven awards each and became the big winners. However On Jai's song IMPERFECT (MEI JUNG BUT JUK) was a duet that featured Deanie Ip Tak Han, On Jai's award winning chances increased. After the song won three awards, nearly everyone turned against On Jai. Aside from fans who blasted that the song should not have been treated as a solo song, Lau Tak Wa supported his friend Hacken Lee Hark Kun and took a jab at On Jai.

On Jai blamed the record company. "I feel whether (the song is counted as) half a point of a point, the difference isn't huge. My responsibility is to sing the song well. (If it is counted as half a point you would have lost to Hacken) I don't care, that's the record company's responsibility. (Do you feel IMPERFECT is a duet?) I always felt it was a duet."

Wa Jai was asked for his opinion and Wa Jai said, "Next time Hacken will be featuring me. I wil feature whoever I like and others can feature me when they like, or maybe both versions are featuring. Originally this year I want to sing with (Sammi) Cheng Sau Man in YESTERDAY ONCE MORE (LUNG FUNG DAU) the most because Hacken sings too well, but we didn't make it."

(12/28/2004) Alan Tam Wing Lun named Andy Hui Chi On, Leo Ku Kui Ke, Hacken Lee Hark Kun and Edmond Leung Hon Man the New Four Great Heavenly Kings. Two nights ago Alan personally presented the Metro Hit Radio Male Singer Awards. The four waited for Alan to make the announcements, but Alan ripped up the result before even looking at it and announced that all four and Andy Lau Tak Wa won.

Ku Kui Ke expressed, "No one knows whether the paper had four names, but don't look so deep into it." Hacken knew his friend Alan's personality and said, "He is always like that. I really don't know when he will do what. He was just trying to rave up the atmosphere."

Metro Radio expressed that the awards were chart determined and not childish at all. Ripping up the result was Alan's idea alone and was unplanned.

The South Asian earthquake and tsunamis have created a global crisis. Organizations around the world have already formed committees to assist with the relief and resource transportation. Hong Kong show business has many who have already contributed to the relief effort.

Golden Horse Best Actor Andy Lau Tak Wa after donating HK$200,000 earlier has now cancelled his January 2 celebration to donate the amount to the relief effort. His fan club yesterday unanimously agreed and has been very supportive of Wa Jai's move. Andylau.com has already started a donation drive and fans can donate to the Andy Lau charity fund. Wa Jai will represent them to distribute to different charity organizations.

Emperor charity fund has not only made its donation but also called for its employees for a January 2 Emperor charity show for South Asia. All of its singers have expressed their support. Joey Yung Cho Yi has already pledged six figures in donation. The evening will have 2000 standing spots and each will cost HK$100. Emperor will pay for the production and the goal is to raise at least HK$1 million. TVB on the same day will hold a fund raiser as well. The entire program will be three hours long.

try games kids (it's old though) and/or god of gambles 1 and 2 (which are old too), he's in a lot of comedies, espeically with sammi cheng, like needing you, love on a diet, yesterday once more isn't really a comedy though

but there are lots, try looking his movies up

From comedies with Sammi I would advise only Needing You. That one is pretty funny. God of Gamblers is funny too, but it's rather Chow Yun Fat's movie wink.gif He is ruling there.

If you want a funny movie with funny Andy, then go and watch Tricky Brains (with Stephen Chow), Cat & Mouse (with Cecilia Cheung), Prince Charming, Future Cops, Don't Fool Me, The Last BLood (Andy is mimicking Bruce Lee there loool.gif ), Lucky stars Go places (My Lucky stars 3). Those are the funnies IMHO.

[Oriental Daily, Ta Kung Pao & The Sun 08/01/05]

The South Asia Earthquake and Tsunami has taken the lives of over 100,000 people and destroyed the homes and lives of much more in the space of one day. In the aftermath of the disaster, the victims are now faced with shortages of food and fresh water and also the threat of disease that strikes at the hearts of everyone else around the world. Over a hundred stars and celebrities from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan joined together in solidarity yesterday at Hong Kong Stadium for the "Crossing Borders Fundraising Show" in a marathon performance, urging the public to donate to the plight of the victims and help them rebuild their homes and futures. The show was also aired to 40 stations around the world and spreading a little warmth to the people affected.

The audience began entering the venue at around 4pm and the show started at 7pm. Led by Eric Tsang, a minutes silence was held in memory of those who died before stars that included Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, A-mei Chang, Coco Lee, Sun Nan and Han Hong joined their colleagues from across the three places to sing the show's theme song "Love". The show was then hosted by Zhang Xiaoyan, Wu Xiaoli, Jacky Wu, Li Xiang, Carol Cheng, Eric Tsang, Sandra Ng and Cheng Dan Shui.

Andy Lau led the stars to join hands and shouted the words: "They drown, I drown", saying he never understood the meaning of this phrase until today: "It means that when you see other people drowning, then you will feel like you are drowning too." To this, Eric joked: "I thought that you meant that if they take the money, you will take it too!" [The Cantonese for 'drown' (lik) sounds like the word for 'take'.]

[Oriental Daily & The Sun 10/01/05]

Andy Lau made history at this year's "Jade Solid Gold Music Awards", being the only artiste ever to win both the Most Popular Male Singer and Asia-Pacific Most Popular Male Singer awards in the same year for the first time ever in the 20 year history of JSG. He was presented with his award by a rather stunning Vivian Chow. At the celebratory party afterwards, a crowd of 200 fans gathered to welcome and congratulate him and when he arrived home later another group of over a hundred fans were there ready to celebrate with a toast.

When Andy, Twins, Miriam Yeung and other winners arrived at the party venue in a bus, the five hundred fans gathered there flooded into the road and there was a lot of confusion as the police stepped in to control the situation. In an interview, Andy's excitement had still not settled down yet as he said: "To make history proves that anything can happen in this world. Whatever we do, the most important thing is never to give up. When I received the Asia-Pacific award, the three tigers (Kent Tong, Felix Wong and Michael Miu) were quite disappointed because they thought I would win the other award, but when they announced my name for the Male Singer award too, I did not know how to respond. All the other singers came to congratulate me and Hacken hugged me and said: "You git! This has never happened before in history!" With so many people caring so much for me, I am very touched."

In the stakes for the combined media award, Andy is currently trailing behind Joey Yung with 13 awards compared to her 15 so far. He says: "It's enough, haha! It is really more than I expected, but I will continue working hard next year and with Eason returning to the music scene, it will be quite colourful."

When Andy left the part, the fans all stretched out to try and touch him and he had to bow down to get into his car. When he returned to his home, over a hundred fans were waving champagne bottles at him, but in order to avoid disturbing his neighbours, he quietly toasted his fans before cutting a cake with them, but telling them to try and keep quiet.

Hacken indicated that he would take Andy bowling: "As a friend, I am happy for him. After all it is a competition and it will be hard for the loser, but I will console myself and no matter who I lose to, I will accept it. (You are TVB's godson though?) If I was, then I should have won 15 years ago!" With only half an award, Andy Hui said: "Andy deserved the award, I am very happy and not disappointed at all."

Joey Yung Cho Yi and Andy Lau Tak Wa two nights ago appeared on TVB JADE SOLID GOLD with a group of award winning singers. Wa Jai sighed that his concert video has only been released for a few days and it is already available for illegal download through bit torrent.

Wa Jai said that by the time the government regulates illegal download, his generation will not be the ones who can benefit. "Bit Torrent is illegal beavhior, but right now truly there is no way to stop it. The industry has screamed and yelled, promoted but the the result has not been too effective. I feel we should start with education so everyone understands that illegal download is stripping people of the benefits that they deserve."

Yung Cho Yi and Lau Tak Wa performed TWO FORGOT IN FOG (LEUNG MONG YIN SHUI LUI). She said, "For my first duet with Wa Jai, I hope to be able learn form him his hard working spirit."

No, Andy isn't married, he isn't gay, he doesn't have a child, he's not an alien and - according to him - he doesn't have a gf (neither from Malaysia, nor Singapore or whatever you heard -. I heard so many options that he would have to have MANY wives already HALF of Asian countries dry.gif )

So you may do exactly as I do: don't believe papers, believe only what Andy says. That's the safest way wink.gif

Andy Lau Tak Wa yesterday opened his storage archives, auctioned 14 costumes, and raised HK$300,000 for South Asia tsunami victim relief. 2,000 fans from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China rushed in and cleared the place in six hours. The event announced that it would end four hours earlier. A fan realized that Wa Jai was reluctant to part with his 2000 World Outstanding Youth costume, won the HK$400,000 bid and returned it to Wa Jai.

Because all clothes were priced low, after five minutes several hundred tee shirts were gone. Ten minutes later even the sweaters were gone. In less than an hour more than half of the clothing were sold. The sale raised HK$100,000.

Wa Jai heard and immediately picked out over 100 pieces of new clothes and went to the site. As soon as the crew put them out, the mob flocked to them and in less than two hours they were again all gone.

The climax of the event of course was Wa Jai personally hosting the auction. Over 300 fans participated in the bidding. Aside from the six valuable costumes, Wa Jai added 8 more pieces of his collection, including a pair of Christmas reindeer boxer shorts, hand drawn RUNNING ON KARMA (DAI JET LO) sneakers, hats and a suit from LOVE ON A DIET (SAU SUN NAM NUI). The auction raised 151,000. The winner of the World Outstanding Youth costume returned the costume to Wa Jai, who has decided to put it on display at his fan club.

As the auction just ended, another fan arrived. She missed the auction but in support of the event donated HK$49,000 so the total amount could reach HK$300,000. Wa Jai was very moved and immediately posed for pictures and signed autographs for her.

Hey can someone tell me what happened to Andy Lau in the year of 2003? He had to go to court or something, and he couldn't sing "Seventeen years old", etc. What actually happened? I only heard that song once, which was at his concert. I have the lyrics to that song...but the melody has faded away.

Thanks
Shoto
He had a lawsuit with Catchy - and because of that he couldn't include 17 and one more song on Vision Tour CD/VCD/DVD. The lawsuit is over now.

If AWC members, who don't read Chinese, are interested what Andy writes in his letters to fans, then here you have a translation. One (the last one) so far, but two more are on their way smile.gif

Enjoy
