Since they're is a thread that compares talent and looks, I thought I'd do one comparing personality.
Sometimes I find that a celebrity is not amazing talented or good-looking but they have this pleasant/cute/humourous personality which makes me like them eg. Alan Davies from QI (British TV show). I don't LIKE like him but i just think his personality is absolutely adorable! Show Luo, who I admit isn't that great at singing, though a good actor IMO, has a really funny personality.
Someone like Rainie Yang (sorry fans!) i don't like as much because I find her too cute and too straightforward. I get the impression that she thinks it's okay to say whatever coz she's a celebrity. I find her singing okay and she acts too cute in dramas.
Then there's people like Tiffany from SNSD who has gotten many antis for showing disrespect towards other celebrities. I personally hate people with cocky attitudes or don't respect others but I don't hate Tiffany because I think that she is actually a good singer and has quite a cute and bubbly personality when she doesn't offend people so I can't get myself to dislike her )not that I'm trying to.)
I was just wondering which one of the 2 is more important to you, personally? which will appeal to people more: a so-so artist with a great personality or a talented artist with a not-so-great attitude?P.S. Sorry if I offended to many fans with this thread, I'm always hesitant when creating threads in the critics hangout because of fear that I'll get

for being ignorant or not backing my points up with facts

I would say talent. I don't think its fair for people to make it to the top just because they are funy or nice. I have plenty of friends who have pleasant personalities but they aren't famous. A good personality would always be a bonus to the celeb of course, but I think the foundation should be the talent. When they sing or act, you can't even see their real personality anyways. And aren't people supposed to be famous based on what they have accomplished, not for who they are?

I will have to go with talent, especially actors. When i watch tvb series i tend to get paranoid when actors overact their scenes. For example, I adore Bernice liu bright personality offscreen but when she appears on screen her acting is very weak and I also like kate tsui but her acting is very fake which add nothing to the character she protrays.

Oh, oh, oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! This has been bugging me awhile lately cause I really don't understand how someone can like a person SOLELY for their personality. I mean, it doesn't really work for other careers (there are some exceptions yes but not really...) but a singer who can't even hum a tune...it's okay, he's NIIIIIICE! Yes, no one likes an ass but it's not exactly their job? And if you like a someone it'll be extra nice if they are a fun person and it will be a bit disappointing if someone you like is a douche but...just stay out of their personal lives. Besides, what you see in interviews is not exactly their real selves...
I don't think Alan Davies count though...or anyone whose job is hosting or go on entertainment shows a lot. I mean he's on a panel quiz show where the answers don't really matter, all he needs IS a likeable personality XD and be funny! it's much harder to be entertaining when you're in that kinda job though so yea for that I think your personality IS your talent for that.

Personality comes first of course.
but, before we know the artiste's personality, we're firstly attracted to the talent. LOL
so what if one particular artiste has got the talent and no personality, he / she will be popular for awhile and it'll died off a while later.

I think I'd go for talent. Honestly, personality.....how many times are we sure that we know exactly what their personality REALLY is? We don't know them for sure.
If I liked the person for their talent a lot, I think their singing is really good, even if I hear news about them like being arrogant or smoking or whatever, I wouldn't hate them for that because honestly, it's hard to find talent these days.
But then again, liking an artist, not ALWAYS about talent. If you're just really attracted to someone, you can't reall help it ROFL. I DO like SOME people that I have to admit aren't really THAAT good and I DO like some artists cuz of their personality too BUT ALONG with the talent part. (Like Show, for me I think he's still quite talented in dancing/acting/and I think his singing is pretty okay)
But like back to the question, talent over personality for me.

It's obviously the talent. Yes, personality can be a big factor but it is ultimately the talent that counts as a celebrity. Besides, all you ever see is the
on screen personality. How are you supposed to know how they really are? when no one's watching?
And those who don't have either the talent or (on screen)personality should be considered as
rubbish people that don't belong to the entertainment industry.

Talent is the thing make them become artists and Personality is the thing keeps fans stay with them.
Without talent, they can't be good artist but bad personlity, they can't be good people.
Personality to me. I can't stand artists who even treat fans bad. I like an artist before, but after knowing that this artist threw the present of a fan to the trash just because it looks a bit dirty, I hate this person much. This girl must learn how to respect other people.

^Have to agree with the above. At first what attracts me about an artist is his or hers talent. And whether I'll like them for a long period of time depends on their personality.

personality. talent can be nuture
I don't think so. You can train to be a singer all you want. However, if you don't have natural talent to begin with, at most, your singing skills will just be average. I can argue that Personality changes. Your personality as a teenager will not be the same as yours as an adult. People grow and change their views and opinions.
To me, I don't care too much about personality as long as the person isn't evil or bites the hand that fed them(directors, fans & etc).

It is really their role that captures our attention first. I mean… ‘talent’ I guess is subjective.. you may think an artist is talented…but to others they aren’t . I mean everyone’s talked about a debut role…and maybe they just lucked out on getting the role that is likeable or attention grabbing. And a lot of stuff relates to audience fortune…I mean an actor could be really good…but they have bad fate with the audience because one of their roles had a bad impression. Of course you have to be able to act…but not necessarily ‘talented’ to be liked. It could be the actor’s personality that really holds the fans. I mean…I can like an actor/actress because they are good at acting…they are what I define to be ‘talented’. But I don’t like these actor/actresses as much as the ones who have a good personality who may not be as good at acting…but they can act...
Haha hopefully someone gets what I mean.

personality is important, so even if the person has mediocre talent but a great personality, it'll be okay.
but if they have NO talent whatsoever, then i would have to say no matter how great their personality is, it would just be a complete failur.

well.. it's kind of really hard to decide... but as what have been mentioned.. yes, talent is very important... but if you have a personality that sucks so much, then i guess that talent wouldn't reach you that far... it's still very important to be nice to the people around you... but of course, being in the entertainment industry... you still need to hone your talent as much as you could...
it's just that... it's a pity that one can be both talented and nice... but still don't make it to the top... the x-factor is a must too... lol

Definitely talent. Talent is the most important thing in a star. I mean, you can be the funniest or sweetest celeb ever, but if you suck at singing, acting, dancing, etc. then I don't think you should be famous at all. Unless you're like...a comedian or a host, then I guess personality matters a bit more.

I agree with oh`retro. being a star its better being talented than having an awsome personality because your career is based on your ability. Though, personality can affect your stardom, like Jessica Ho

, all that talent... But anyway. If I had to choose on or the other, no in-between, my answer = Talent (but in reality you need both right)
i say both =P but, people should be screened for talent and then should be screened for personality. both are important and should be equally weighted.

I'm actually surprised that this thread isn't Personality/Talent vs. Looks but then again, someone might have the talent and act like a complete D-Bag. But anyways, I'd say both. You can't be just famous in the music industry without and skill and just having talent is nothing. You have to be able to captivate people and fans with your personality. Overall, I would have to say looks is the least important. I mean it's great if you have the looks but its not the most important thing.

i'd say a star who only has one of the two would surely go down the drain in no time
but the bigger percentage (say 55%) must be the talent
or that star would nothing but glittering trash.
personality shouldn't be taken belittled though.
i know many stars who have THE personality
(i'm too scared to name them. fans really are scary. LOL.)
people you kinda like to burn to ashes.
agh.
big turn off.
so yeah,
talent a little > than personality
