I've been seeing a lot of several actors/actresses lately (their series keep airing on tv) and the more I watch them, the more I feel that they remind me of previous generation actors/actresses, whether acting style or mannerisms.

Two examples that come to mind:

1.Tavia Yeung - reminiscient of Jessica Hsuan in terms of acting styles and roles. Both always play "strong females" (hard to imagine them in a weak "flower vase" type role)...plus both are good at playing those strong emotional roles...the similarities are esp apparent when they are in "arguing" scenes...

2.Sunny Chan - reminds me of Chow Yun Fat (though nowhere near the popularity). If you've seen Sunny in "Once Upon a Time in Shanghai" you will know exactly what I mean. His mannerisms are amazingly similar, not just in that series but in others as well. I can totally see him in the same roles that made Chow famous in the 70s and 80s. It also helps that he came out of the acting academy, so he had good training and is versatile - he can play the both serious and comical roles just as well (also similar to Chow).

I'm sure there are more, but these are the obvious ones that come to mind for me.

What are your thoughts? Any others you can think of?

Actually, Tavia had heaps of weakling roles. I tend to think Tavia more in line with Ada rather than Jessica because to me they are both amazing in ancient series. I emphasize ancient because not many artist can portray convincing ancient characters and both Ada and Tavia in my opinion excel in this genre. I'm thinking on the lines of Ada's (DOP) vs Tavia (TOB). They aren't exactly the same but they give off that graceful strong female vibe...very charismatic onscreen.

charmaine in your hired reminds me of Dodo Cheng. Its just the way she speaks reminds me of dodo in war in gender.

also Myolie Wu reminds me a bit of Kathy Chow hoi mei.

Can't really see the Myolie / Kathy resemblance...which series in particular? The reason I ask is because Kathy was one of my favorite actresses from the 80's and 90's, but I actually can't stand Myolie...



Hmmm...you may have a point regarding the ancient series and strong female correlation...I guess the reason I don't really see her being like Ada is because Ada is a lot more versatile -- she can do funny roles just as well as serious ones (loved her in To Catch the Uncatchable with Dayo Wong)...I have yet to see Tavia do that type of role. Maybe when she does, I may see the correlation more.

Sure Tavia have, not sure if you've seen her Mimi in Dicey Business. I think that's my fav character of hers so far lolz

Ah..that's why..I've only seen a couple episodes of Dicey Business and most of them had Michael and Bobby, so that's probably why...I'll probably get a better feel for it once I actually watch the entire series.

It sure is hard trying to match up some of the younger actors with the older ones, huh? I don't really think about it normally--just when I happen to watch or re-watch a particular series, then it comes to me. ;-)
