Your rank is still an AF-newbie, therefore you cannot send PMs. You can apply for promotion here to get promoted to members. Then you'll be able to send PMs.

OH my gosh, I didn't realise I'd been demoted!

I got an error message saying I did not qualify for promotion because "You only had approximately 2 posts since your demotion"

^You will need to have posted 20 (preferably recent) posts or more after your demotion to be eligible to apply for this promotion. More info here: http://faq.asianfanatics.net/index.php/Promotion_tool Since you have 2 posts now, make 18 more (non SPAM) posts then get a promotion !
