I was wandering how is the situation in China about being gay. How does the society look towards a gay person? Is it normal or still sounds like something unacceptable?

They are ostracized in china. It sucks to be gay there. I would reconsider moving there if you are gay. Good luck because you will have to be in the closet about it.

I think becos China is facing a gender ratio problem where males outnumber females..

it is strongly opposed by the traditional Confcian values here
but for the new generation, most of them can accept and some of them are really ossesed with it!

i cannot say i have seen any gay person in china (not inc HK) at all come to think of it.

not really, Confucian values don't really care about the small details that much as long as you produce male offspring and respect your father. You have have male lovers if you want, but you must also produce babies. I guess that would make you bi, but whatever.

Edit: This applies more to ancient china though. Homophobia was basically introduced into China along with other Christian beliefs. You can google it if you want.

Being gay in China is bad because its is not socially acceptable unfortunately! It is seen as being wrong and I guess old people see gay people as having mental health issues! You have to keep it to yourself and basically hide in the closet because it would destroy your life if people found out the truth. Also I doubt that many parents in China would be able to accept having a homosexual son or daughter and you could even get disowned if you choose to have same sex relationships. It's not seen as normal behaviour either.

Of course there's bound to be a lot of homosexuals in China. With a population of about 1.3 billion people, even with the conservative estimate that 1% of a population is homosexual, that gives about 13 million homosexuals in China.

Yay!! Homosexuality isn't illegal in China. So what. That doesn't stop that fact that homosexuals are treated like crap in China. That doesn't stop stupid traditional parents from disowning their children for being gay. And for a country that has little human rights to begin with, gays are hardly going to have any rights. I guess it could be worse, like being put to death for being gay, but that's not exactly a win situation is it?

It's now 1.5 billion Chinese.

But as a percentage Im guessing that the gay population in China is not that high when comapred to western nations. But how do people even work these sort of figures out saying there are X amount of gay people in China, it's not like gay people in China would own up to being gay lol. Carrying out surveys like that in China would be hard because its not something that the government would want people to do.

I even saw a chinese movie about 2 gays.
Honestly, before i also didn't see so many gays in Europe outside kissing, hugging etc.
If you don't see it in a public it doesn't mean they don't exist!

There are so many lesbians in China. In beijing, just walk one round in 'Xidan' (A shopping area) And you will see many 'butch'
