IT is the chilling voice of a cold-blooded murderer.
Yet, it comes from Korea's hottest heart-throb - boyish actor Kang Dong Won.
In the movie Voice Of Murderer, opening here on Thursday, he plays a cunning man who abducts a boy and torments his parents with threatening phone calls.
You won't get to see his handsome face, except for the occasional silhouette of him in a black shirt with matching baseball cap.
But his low-pitched, detached and deliberately mocking voice is unforgettable.
Even a police officer who watched the film analysed Dong Won's voice as 'highly intelligent', 'calm', 'cold-hearted' and 'ruthless'.
Dong Won, 26, sure nailed his faceless villain role, despite initial surprise at his unconventional choice.
Both fans and movie critics alike were wowed by his performance - also evident in the amazing 3.1million admissions in Korea in February.
As the movie is based on a true kidnapping case in 1991 that remains unsolved, Dong Won analysed voice recordings provided by the police and did his best to imitate the abductor's tone.
My Daily reported that director Park Jin Pyo was 'very satisfied' with Dong Won's voice, which 'becomes more and more scary'.
Sol Kyung Gu, who plays the news-anchor father who loses his cool after his son is kidnapped, was also moved by Dong Won's devotion to hiswork.

Dong Won's voice is only heard over the phone in the movie, but he insisted being on the set and spoke directly to Kyung Gu in numerous car scenes where the murderer calls the father on his car phone.
Kyung Gu, 39, said: 'There's no role that an actor cannot do. Instead of saying he's making a transformation, why not say that Kang Dong Won is only showing the audience one part of him that he already has?'
Indeed.
Arguably the Johnny Depp of Korea, Dong Won actually started out as a teen idol in romantic films like Temptation Of Wolves.
But he has since shed his pretty boy image by taking on dark, offbeat roles - just like Depp did.
Dong Won first won praise in 2005 for playing an assassin named Sad Eyes in the swordfighting flick Duelist.
Last year, he attracted more than three million admissions to his gloomy, melodramatic film Maundy Thursday.
He played a death row inmate who meets a female prisoner (Lee Na Young) and falls in love.
Coming up next is the mystery-romance M, in which he plays a troubled novelist who is caught between reality and fantasy.

Also, his name often comes up when female stars are asked who their ideal type is.
K-popster BoA is an unabashed fan, while Japan's Miki Nakatani said she turned down an invitation to lunch with him because 'I was afraid I can't control myself (in his presence)'.
Korea's sexiest singer Lee Hyo Lee also named Dong Won as her ideal type during a TV show late last year.
'He looks so gentlemanly no matter what he wears. Even in a prisoner's clothing, he still seems suave to me.'
Well, the good news is that Dong Won is now single, after breaking up with his model ex-girlfriend months ago, reported My Daily.
He said there is 'no particular reason' for the split, and they are now 'good friends who support each other'.

`M' Sets Busan Film Festival on Fire

BUSAN _ Korea's acclaimed director Lee Myung-se's latest work "M,'' starring popular actors Gang Dong-won and Kong Hyo-jin, stole the limelight at the 12th Pusan (Busan) International Film Festival (PIFF). But the press conference for the much anticipated movie on Saturday exploded into a chaotic mess as conflict escalated between the media and organizers of the event, pointing to doubts about the overall quality of Asia's largest film event.
Domestic and foreign press lined up outside the press conference venue an hour beforehand, with a swarm of female fans buzzing in the hallway, anxiously waiting to breathe the same air _ even for a split second _ as heartthrob Gang Dong-won.
Yet, when doors opened 30 minutes prior to the start of the presentation, mayhem ensued as close to 100 or so reporters, photographers and camera crews poured into a shockingly small room. For about 50 minutes, heated arguments between the media personnel and organizers ensued, with festival director Kim Dong-ho also intervening helplessly to resolve the situation.
After exploring several options, including canceling the event or switching venues, it was decided that the photo session would take place first so that photographers could make way for camera crew and reporters. The press conference finally commenced 40 minutes late, and the fiery air finally cooled down a bit as the stars of the movie filed into the room.

After apologizing for the disorganization, festival director Kim Dong-ho introduced the director and cast, saying Gang Dong-won is the "principle offender'' responsible for the horde of people, drawing laughs from the room.
"I am very honored to have been chosen for the Gala Presentation at PIFF. I am a timid blood type A (urban legend says that A types are fainthearted), so I'm nervous that reporters are in a sour mood,'' chuckled the director.
Lee, the director of contemporary classic "Nowhere to Hide,'' re-teamed with heartthrob Gang Dong-won, the male lead from his last film "The Duelist'' for "M.'' The film is among the four works featured in PIFF's newly added Gala Presentation section, which spotlights the most-talked-about films du jour by master cineastes.
In addition to "M,'' this year's Gala Presentation spotlights Im Kwon-taek's latest work "Beyond the Years,'' Hou Hsiao Hsien's "Flight of the Red Balloon'' from Taiwan and Royston Tan's "881'' from Singapore.
"M'' is a melange of the remembrances and imagination of a best-selling writer (Gang Dong-won), who, just before getting married to his fiancee (Kong Hyo-jin) and under a pressing deadline, looks back to his long deceased first love (Lee Yeon-hee).
"It's been a year since I last made a public appearance, but the atmosphere…'' said Gang, trailing off, appearing slightly nervous at first but easing down as the atmosphere softened.
Media from Hong Kong and Japan focused mainly on the actor, who explained that he did not particularly try to feign an act for playing the role of an intellectual writer. "I think it's important to just pour your heart into the role, and it comes naturally,'' he said.
The tall and lean model-turned-actor explained that it was convenient to play opposite the two female leads Kong Hyo-jin and Lee Yeon-hee because they are both tall.
When asked by a member of the press what it was like to star opposite such a hot and handsome man, Kong said, "He's really good-looking, isn't he? But in person he's really easygoing, down to earth and humble. It made me think, `wow, so he is human,''' drawing laughter from the room.
Rising starlet Lee said "To be frank, I was really overwhelmed when I first met him. It's hard to explain in words.'' But once she got to know him better, the 19-year-old actress said she was able to shoot the film with ease.
Press conferences for domestic films always draw a sizeable crowd, and it seems nonsensical that the 12-year-old festival did not have the foresight to choose a larger venue _ especially given that the movie is one of the highlighted programs of this year's festival and sure to attract not only domestic but international press.
The explosive pressroom was not only a matter of inconvenience for the busy press, which works on a tight schedule trying to catch as many of the myriad of ongoing events _ it may have easily led to accidents as large cameras had to be hitched up to the ceiling, hovering overhead in a dangerous fashion.
PIFF has enjoyed an amazing growth, becoming the largest cinematic celebration in Asia and a prominent international movie feast. PIFF may have gotten larger with a more diversified program and larger selection of works, but it still needs to fine-tune its organizational structure, as well as security measures.
The slack ID checking at the door also had enabled some of the fanatical fans to slip into the venue, as the same happened during the press conference for Kimura Takuya's film "Hero,'' Friday.

Then I found Temptation of Wolves. And I really liked his play in this movie.

he's an awesome actor!! he was really good in A Wolf's Temptation ( too sad T_T) and he was kind of funny in The Duelist ^^, he just appeared so quickly, with his long ass hair down it was sugoi!!!
i liked him a lot after watching AWT a few years ago. and i jst finished watchin 1% a few days ago and omg, i jst had to rewatch AWT haha. he loooked much better in AWT, i thot he gained a few kgs nin 1% but man hes still as adorable as ever. cute face, smiley eyes, bloody hot voice, god hes so perfect haha.

화이트데이에 개봉을 앞두고 있는 <허밍>의 VIP시사회가 3월 5일 롯데시네마 건대입구관에서 성황리에 열렸다.
The VIP preview of movie “Humming”, which is about to premiere on the upcoming White Day (Dada: March 14), took place at Lotte cinema on March 5.

대 부분의 VIP시사회가 차분하고 조용하게 진행되는 것과 달리 영화<허밍>의 VIP시사회는 열띤 응원전과 웃음으로 활기차게 진행되었다. 무대인사에서 이천희가 “안녕하세요, 이천희입니다”라는 인사를 하자, 관객석에 있던 동료배우들이 모두 함께 일어나 응원전을 펼친 것. “이천희 멋있다!”,”이천희 잘생겼다!”는 구호를 외치고 꽃다발을 증정하기까지 하는 세레모니를 펼쳤다.
The most part of movie <Humming>’s preview was progressing in silence and smiles. At the beginning of stage greetings, Lee Cheon Hee said “Hello, I’m Lee Cheon Hee”, all of his colleagues from the audience seats stood up to support him, kept on shouting “Lee Jeon Hee looks so great””, “Lee Cheon Hee is so handsome!” ; and the ceremony began as soon as bunch of flowers were given.
이에 질세라 이천희에 이어 인사를 하게 된 한지혜는 자신을 응원하는 동료배우들의 함성이 크자 “제가 오늘 사람 좀 많이 불렀어요”하며 크게 웃었고, 한지혜의 동료배우들은 파도타기 응원까지 펼쳐 장내를 웃음짓게 하였다.
Only after that, Han Ji Hye could deliver her greetings, her co-stars made a great cry “I said that many would attend” while laughing loudly. The inside of the hall was full of fun.

이 날, <허밍>VIP시사회에는 강동원, 이정재, 정려원, 박건형, 김성수, 송창의, 박지윤, 김지석, 김민준, 서유정, 강성진, 박희진, 임주환, 정의철, 진이한, 최자혜, 김찬우, 유인영, 이영은, 조동혁, 윤현숙, 장현성, 이정헌, 정시아 등의 배우들과 김상진, 추창민, 장항준, 김정우 감독들도 참석하였다. 영화를 보고 나온 참석자들은 이구동성으로 “잊고 있던 사랑을 일깨워줬다”, “와이프한테 잘해야겠다는 생각을 다시 하게 됐다” 등의 감상평을 남기기도 하였다.

특히, 정려원은“슬프고 예쁜 사랑영화예요”, 박건형은 “저도 사랑을 이루기 위해 지금 당장 인수봉(영화엔딩 장면의 배경)으로 가요”, 김지석은 “지혜랑 천희형 키쓰씬이 화제가 되서, 지혜를 감시하러 왔는데...오히려 영화를 보고 두 사람이 너무 부러워졌다”고 밝혔다.
Particularly, Jeong Ryeo Won said “This is a sad and nice movie”. Park Geon Hyeong “I’ll go to Insoobong (place of the ending scene) right now in order to achieve the love”, Kim Ji Seok “the kiss scene between Ji Hye and Cheon Hee hyeong (dada: brother) becomes a hot topic so I came to see Ji Hye…rather than watch the movie, I really felt anvious of the two of them”.
시사회 전부터 영화에 대한 기대감이 컸다는 김민준은“기대한대로 영화가 너무 잘나왔다. 감동이다” 라며 엄지손가락을 들었고, 조동혁은 “내가 앞장서서 홍보를 하겠다”며 영화에 대한 만족감을 드러냈다. 평소 말 수 없기로 유명한 배우인 강동원은 취재진들에게 “영화의 마지막장면에서 슬퍼서 울었다”며 <허밍>의 만족도를 보이기도 하였다.

Not as usual, famous actor Gang Dong Won showed his pleased expression of <Humming> “I cried for the last sad scene of the movie”

hey...isn't this the kim dongwan page?....ooops...its kang dongwon.....j/k....i love this guy too.... i watched the duelist and was hooked....he has such an intense look and those eyes....*sigh* they are to die for...they can be really compelling....it's true, he's not sexy like kim dongwan but he is appealing, and very mysterious....he is just so.....i dont know....he is a really really good actor...i want to watch his other films too....i want to watch the new one (i think) with the director of duelist....love kang dongwon....he is really ♥♥♥♥♥
<3 I just watched Too Beautiful To Lie and can't stop laughing, he is amazing. I'd only ever seen him in the Duelist, I had no idea he was so funny as well! And definitely much hotter when he smiles.
