Gee you guys find duelist like a piece of crap...what the...I think it was art...
Starting from the beginning of the film, the movie scens are very well coordinated...plus everything is really in place in the movie, therefore I don't really know why some people just think it was sooo bad...
I like the whole plot and I love Dong wannie's character, he doesn't talk much, but he uses his body to communicate everything...plus his smile is to die for...
I especially like the last fighting scene...gosh I just wan tto rip it out and play on my comp forever...lol it's really pretty ...ohh they said they learned tango in order to fight...which i thought was very insteresting

I dunno, me too.. I thought Duelist was something different from the Korean movies. The way they shot the scenes are very different.. and sometimes, it's understood if you just shot some parts of the stories.
He was really cool with the sword+dance scene. The story is very simple, and it's not too hard to figure out.

Kang Dong-won, Ha Ji-won Promote Film "Duelist" in JapanApril 18, 2006
Two next-generation hallyu stars, actor Kang Dong-won and actress Ha Ji-won, gave a press interview at the Teikoku Hotel in Hibiya, Tokyo on Apr. 17 to promote the film "Duelist" (2005) produced by Production M.
The press interview, also attended by the film's director Lee Myung-se, was covered by about 350 journalists, with 20 movie cameras and 150 camcoders on hand, showing the Japanese media's high interest in the film and its actors.
Kang sported a stylish black jacket and black pants as befitting an actor who used to be a fashion model himself. Ha wore a white dress suitable for the season.
To a question "what impressions did you have of each other?" Kang said, "It has been a long time since we first met. So, we are on good terms with each other. Ha is a little older than me. She is really kind and gentle. I like her company. She is a good actress who tries really hard."
Ha said, "I had heard that Kang was shy. But I found it was not true. He is a really hard-working actor." When Ha said, "Kang likes sleeping so much that he was late for filming schedules several times," the audience at the interview burst into laughter. Kang also said, "In one scene of the film, we were supposed to dance the Tango during a sword fight. Despite rehearsals, we laughed several times during the actual shooting."
In unison, Kang and Ha actively promoted the film, saying, "It's a film of a new genre."
In Korea, "Duelist" was released in September of last year. It is a stylish feature-length film that made the headlines. It won high acclaim from the Korean Film Critics Association by winning the association's awards such as Best Film, Best Director and Best Photography. The film will also be screened in France and Britain. It will be released across Japan on Apr. 22.

Actor Kang Dong-won Receives Favorable Response from Japanese News MediaMay 2, 2006
Japanese news media outlets have given a favorable response to actor Kang Dong-won, calling him a new hallyu star who will succeed to the level of top star Bae Yong-joon.
The Japanese daily Sankei Sports said on May 2, "Kang Dong-won successfully wrapped up his fan meeting held in Japan on May 1 in celebration of the publication of his photo album. Kang is one of the top four new-generation hallyu stars alongside Lee Dong-kun, who made headlines for his role in the TV drama 'Lovers in Paris'; Cho In-sung, who has drawn a group of enthusiastic fans for his role in the TV drama 'The Bali Story'; and Ji Sung, who became familiar to fans for his role in the TV drama 'All-In.'"
The Japanese daily also said, "Kang debuted in 2003 and won attention for his role in the TV drama '1% of Something.' He also won high popularity in Japan for his acting in the film entitled 'Romance of Their Own.'"
The daily added, "Currently, the film 'Duelist' starring Kang Dong-won is gaining popularity in Japan. His photo album has sold a total of 13,000 copies so far. In Korea, Kang tops all polls in the question category 'Which actor would you like to have as your boyfriend?' surpassing all top Korean stars including Bae Yong-joon."
The event held in Tokyo on May 1 in celebration of the publication of Kang's photo album was attended by about 4,000 Japanese fans, demonstrating the high popularity Kang is enjoying in Japan.

Mmmm, I liked Duelist. I know many people critize it because of its script, but I thing the movie concept is artistic movement, beautiful scenes, and doesn't care much about story. It's a special film, something different, you can't compare it to other movies because it's a different kind of genre, if we can say it can enter into a genre class. If you're looking for a meaningful script, just don't watch Duelist, but if you like art and gorgeous scenery, this is your perfect option.

He don't look that good at first but his look tends to grow on you. He got a very boyish look. He can act very well. I am waiting for his new show this year.
I don't understand why is it that all popular Korean actor only produce 1 to 2 drama in a year. Have to wait very long to see their drama.
damn, he's hot and really juicy

HI AiRiNe-Love-KDW, 10Q FOR SHARING THE BLOG SITE.
AT LEAST I MANAGED TO SEE HIS LATEST LOOKS & WHAT HE IS UP TO NOW.
ANYWAY I THINK I PREFER HIM WITH LONG HAIR RATHER THAN THE SHORT HAIR. I FIND IT DOES'NT SUIT HIM. HOPEFULLY KDW WILL KEEP HIS HAIR BACK.HE WILL LOOK MORE HANDSOME ,CUTE, LOVABLE WITH LONG HAIR.

I first saw him in Wolf's Attraction but didn't like him until I saw Duelist. He doesn't say much in the movie but I'm so impressed with his acting.
At the moment I'm watching his old drama 1% of Anything. He's such a meanie. >.< His character has the WORST temper problem but he's awesome in it.
2, I'm new here but just like u guysm I love KDW too much ^^. Since I saw him in Something about 1%, I really love his smile. and then I watch Romance of their own and Too beauty too lie, I'm totally in love with him. He's look more cute in the movie than the picture. I love his smile the most. He's so cute ^^.

I loved him in Temptation of Wolves, but not so much 1% of Anything.
Not so much comentary on Kang Dong Won's acting as on the series itself,
the first couple episodes just did not make me want to watch more.
And, although Duelist confused me a bit, Kang Dong Won saved the film
for me. His sword dance was fantastic. Does anyone know if it was all him
or if there was a stunt double for some of it?
I can't seem to find any of his other dramas online. Does anybody have any
commentary on his roles in Lady of Dignity, Magic, or Country Princess?

I didn't know who he was until like... today... XD
I went with my bro to buy some CDs the other day and we saw the Cover of the Duelist. It looked pretty cool so we bought it.
So when I popped the movie in today, I like fell in love with him! haha. He's so sexy in that movie with his black hair covering his face. I love that long black hair. Too bad he only had a couple of lines. But I loved that quiet, mysterious character he played. The storyline was pretty interesting too... it was filmed differently from all the other movies I've seen so it took me a while to get used to. The swordfights were awesome

A Superior Weepie About the Meaning of Compassion: Happy Hours and Two Complex Stars
The film “Our Happy Time,” which went on general release on Thursday, tells a doomed love story between a woman who longs for death and a man who is being forced to face it against his will. The movie has all the typical elements of a melodrama, and the simple plot makes it easy to predict what the two have been doing and will be doing next -- and that is just what happens. What makes the movie special is the undeniable charm of the two young stars and the director’s ability to express nuances. The film is an excellent choice for those who are looking for a weepie this fall.

Lee Na-young and Kang Dong-won pose for a photo during a press conference for the film ‘Our Happy Time’ on Tuesday.
After failing to kill herself for the third time, Lee Na-young’s character comes to visit Kang Dong-won’s character, a prisoner sentenced to death. Imprisoned for murdering three people, his initial response to her is cold, but soon the walls between them break down and they tell each other of their painful past. Lee and Kang, whose strength lies in expressing the weaknesses of human beings, are ideally cast in a film about understanding and love between those with an excruciating pain in their heart.

A poster for “Our Happy Time”
Lee proves that she is fully capable of taking the lead in a film. She confesses a past that she has been hiding in sentences broken by the difficulty of doing so. That is what makes it so moving. Where “queen of tears” Jeon Do-yeon expresses her characters’ pain by weeping copiously, Lee desperately tries to fight her tears. Kang also acquits himself more than honorably by perfectly inhabiting a character where audiences can focus on his acting rather than his pretty face. Since ambition is the first step to becoming a great actor, Kang’s future in the craft looks bright.
Song Hae-seong, who directed “Failan,” again showcases his uncanny ability to understand when he should make his audiences cry or wipe their tears away. His skill in showing changes in the character’s view of life with seemingly trivial actions adds vitality to the well-worn story. This melodrama is less about love than about compassion: both rich and poor, killers and suicides are entitled to our compassion. While it cannot save the dying, it can be a warm blanket that helps them withstand the sense of futility in life. But wait: isn’t compassion the very thing that lies at the heart of love?
