i notice those available are mostly edited china retail versions. Its better than nothing but i prefer original uncut version (any idea where to get these?) .. anyway how about u guys, which version do u prefer?>

I prefer the uncut version of all the tvb series on dvd.

actually if u compare the china version with the hk version.
the china version serie is sometimes a few episode more.
Like War of Beauty. HK version got 30 eps and the China version got 33 eps.
Its just that the china version have explained everything better (actually its that the china pp need more explanation for everything)
thats why the china version got a few more eps.
The hk pp think that tvb serie shouldnt be long-winded
so thats why there is 2 versions.
Btw if u want to get the "uncut version" (not really uncut, i think it make u get bored) just dl the mandarin version. the eps classification
is just a bit different

I thought china version have more eps because each eps is shorter than the normal eps. The offical TVB release of old series in cantonese are all edited. Mandarin version may not be edited.

u know it really doesn't matter... the quality isn't that much of a difference why exactly do u prefer it?

some of the uncut editions (e.g. HSDS 1986) may be found at d-addicts. i find the unabidged versions definitely richer and more wholesome than the abridged ones.

i prefer the uncut version of the series. tvb might said it only cutting out the unimportant parts, but i think those parts connect somehow. otherwise why they have scenes in the first place

I don't really care as long as the series still make sense and they are not cutting out the juicy details that are relevant in the first place!

The uncut versions are better....also I recommend getting DVDs versus VCDs....for TVB, there is only 1 official distributor of their products -- Taiseng....most of the places that have original series that come out (not bootleg versions) have to go through Taiseng. One good place to check for "original" series that have come out on DVD is yesasia.com, though if you have a store that you normally go to that sells the originals (like I have), then that would work as well.

The reason I like DVDs better over VCDs is because I have both and TVB usually does a bad job of editing the VCD version. For instance, I have one of my favorite series "The Breaking Point" on VCD and they cut that one so badly that the story doesn't even make sense anymore (believe me, I've seen that series so many times that I have it memorized by now). Luckily, I have the original on tape (waiting for it to "officially" come out on DVD). The DVD versions usually are not cut because they keep to the original episode lengths (45 minutes per ep) and the original episode count (20, 30, 40 eps, etc.)

in nyc chinatown, they still have a handful of renting place for tvb. they sell original dvds from tvb. but their business is most from bootleg dvds. they copy the dvds from the original and sell them at $0.75 per episodes. or they sell the ones they rents out, like a bride for a ride, it done coming out, after a month or two, they will sell have stock they use as to rent out, they sell them. as for vcd they copy a couple of vcd, 4 - 6 vcd, into one dvd. it a dollar an episode, so if there 12 vcds then, it $12.00.
