Moses Chan (born April 16, 1971) is an actor from Hong Kong. Having started his career working mostly on films, Chan has gained remarkable success in recent years while concentrating on his TV acting career with Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB). His career has especially been boosted by his role in War and Beauty, which was arguably one of the most successful TV dramas TVB has ever produced.

Chan is known to be popular amongst mothers because of reasons ranging from his acting ability to his charming disposition. He gives people an impression that he is knowledgeable and bold, which has definitely helped him gain popularity in Hong Kong, where people tend to be extremely cynical about the entertainment industry. He is currently working on more TVB dramas, trying to uphold his reputation as one of the most hard-working actors in TVB.

On November 17, 2007, he won both the Best Actor and Most Favorite Character Awards at the TVB 40th Anniversary Award Show for his character Duk Duk Dei in the popular drama series Heart of Greed.

Moses Chan was a guest on a cookery show yesterday and tasted the 'Clay pot chicken' that the chef created. The crew informed him that the fresh chicken had been bought by the chef from a local chicken seller and Moses was without fear as he was photographed holding the ingredients and claiming that he can cook too, with steak and eggs being his strong dishes. When he was asked if he was afraid of bird flu, Moses said: "Hong Kong will be fine, Hong Kong will be good." He then says that there is nothing to be worried about as long as you don't eat wild game!

A recent magazine report has suggested that Sonija Kwok's beauty centre sponsors are considering terminating her contract at the end of the year as a result of her negative press involving Deric Wan and also her dwindling popularity. They go on to indicate that in order to keep her contract, Sonija has especially taken time out from her tight filming schedules to attend the company ball.

At the ball, she appeared dressed up lavishly in a beautiful sexy dress and was one of the first representatives to arrive. As soon as she arrived, she was surrounded by the press and it would appear that she replied to their questions with careful preparation. As the magazine had published a set of sexy photos of her, she was asked when she would be shooting this type of portfolio again. She says that the magazine had arranged the shoot through TVB and she felt that it was very beautiful. Wearing a bikini, is her boyfriend concerned about her being overly revealing? Sonija says that her boyfriend will not interfere and all her work is arranged by her manager. Her boyfriend feels that as long as she looks pretty, then he will not intrude into her work. When asked if she has taken the photos to show her boyfriend, Sonija says: "I don't need his permission for my work."

Since dating Deric, there appears to have been a lot of negative press for Sonija, does she feel this way? She says: "I don't really notice it and I don't really want to talk about my relationship too much." When asked how she would describe her relationship, she laughs that it is fine, but she hopes that the spotlight can be placed back onto her work. As for whether dating is affecting her career, she says she will take little notice of this.

As spokesperson for the beauty company, Moses Chan was also at the event and when he arrived, he was immediately surrounded by many ladies who fought to welcome him. Among them was a staff member who helped him to pin his buttonhole on before 'groping' him and leaving him rather embarrassed and doing nothing but smile. Afterwards, many ladies continued to surround him to have their photos taken as his 'beauty' really shone. With TVB currently promoting the six young male stars, Moses has been following their progress and he feels that they are all very good.

TVB's new series "Blossoming Hearts" held its costume tryout yesterday and leading stars including Michael Tao, Kenix Kwok, Moses Chan, Bernice Liu and guest star Anne Heung were present. Two 'housewife killers' Michael and Moses showered each other with flattering words when they met as Moses praised Michael for being oozing with charisma, whilst Michael described Moses as being gallant and expressed his admiration. However, Michael stated: "Please don't refer to us as 'new or old' or 'No 1 No 2' any more, I just want to make a new friends. (Do you feel pressure from the challenge of Moses?) I have been challenged all along, ever since I was in the acting class." He also says of Moses: "I have felt there is something special about him ever since his movies and then his television shows, otherwise he would not have the success he has today."

Moses speaks modestly as he talks of Michael: "He is the true 'housewife killer' and is irresistable. I am very happy to work with him and I hope there will be some chemistry in our performance. In the past I liked watching his shows such as 'Detective Investigation Files'." As well as this new show, Moses is also filming "Fight for Every Moment", so he is rather busy. When asked whether he hopes to get an award this year with filming so many shows, he says: "I haven't thought about so much as many of my series are yet to be aired and I don't want to give myself too much pressure."

Also, Michael will be working with Kenix as a couple for the fourth time and it was little wonder that Michael was concerned that the audience would find their pairing boring. However Kenix was more optimistic and said: "Our characters are completely different from the last show 'Shine on You', so I am not worried that the audience will find it boring." She adds that with time, their partnership has also matured as in the past they were just dating, but in this show they are married with children. Also, this is the first show that Kenix will be filming since her marriage and she laughs that she feels like a child who is refreshed after summer vacation. She will be flying out to Tokyo today to film another show before returning to make an advertisement and starting filming on this new show next week.

Kenix indicates that with the success of "At the Threshold of an Era" in the mainland, she had been invited to film a series for the mainland that included filming on location in France, but because it clashed with this series, she has had to turn it down. When asked if this was a pity, she says: "Not at all, because there will always be other opportunities and this series with TVB is also a great opportunity. (But you will earn a lot less for it, was the foreign fee not greater?) I can make up for it with the ads."

Talking of her earlier kiss scenes with Frankie Lam, Bernice was rather nervous and Kenix had to give her words of encouragement. Bernice says that Kenix is very friendly and she responds: "She was quite nervous because this was her first screen kiss and even a peck on the cheek left her very embarrassed. However, she needs to overcome this mental barrier because there will inevitably be more kissing scenes in the future."

When Bernice hears Kenix telling her to overcome her mental barrier, she laughs: "I don't think I will need to kiss in this new series because every time I date, I do not succeed!" However, the story pairs her up with Moses and she praises her co-star saying: "He has very a foreign outlook so I not only feel very relaxed working with him, we also have great conversations." Bernice has recently had an illness affecting her respiratory system, leaving her voice still a little husky, but she daren't use Western drugs any more because the side effects left her very swollen.

Also present at the event was Anne Heung, Natalie Tong and Edmond So. Anne was very eyecatching in her backless top and revealed that she would be guest starring as Michael's ex-girlfriend for five or six episodes. She says that her character is very important because Michael changes as a result of her appearance. Anne has recently cut her hair short, but as her boyfriend likes long haired girls, he was a little upset by this. She says: "I told him that I have filmed series for a long time and have always had long hair, so I wanted to change this time. A lot of friends have commented I look very fresh with shorter hair."

Kenix Kwok, Michael Tao and Moses Chan were filming on location in Tsimshatsui East for "Blossoming Hearts" yesterday. The scene tells of them going for lunch in a restaurant, where Moses and Kenix are a couple, but there are rumours that Michael is secretly dating Kenix. Moses does not believe this, but in fact, Kenix's affections belong to Michael.

When Moses was standing and talking to the reporters, a man came over suddenly and pointed at Moses saying: "He has his ear pierced, he is quite obviously gay!" To this, Moses replied smiling: "If you pierce your right ear, it indicates you are gay, but if you pierce your left ear, then you are straight." When the man heard this, he understood and went away. Moses then said: "When I had my piercing done, I was told that gays had their right ear done. As for why I had both my ears pierced, it was because I didn't want to waste the other earring!"

When Moses was asked if he had been harrassed in the past, he admits that when he was in his teens in Australia, someone tried to touch his bottom in a disco. He adds: "I have had personal items stolen from the gym, but I can't say what it was. I have a friend who found a rose in front of his locker and believes it was someone wanting to show their love." However, since returning to Hong Kong, he has never met with these incidents.

The weather yesterday was rather warm, but Moses was wearing his suit and was asked if it was hard work. He laughs: "But I look really handsome! (Would you rather be wearing a suit in the summer than filming ancient dramas?) I still like doing ancient dramas, because the final product gives me a greater feeling of success and satisfaction."

Also, there was a mother and daughter who asked for a photograph with Kenix, who showered the child with praises of how cute she was. When asked if she would be having one of her own, she said smiling: "My sister's son is very cuit, but this does not make me want to have kids just yet because my career is most important for now, especially now when I have a show that I really like, the more I film, the better I feel, so after this show, I will be taking on new series 'Ten Brothers'."

Bernice Liu was filming together with Moses Chan earlier for "Blossoming Hearts" in a street in Tsimshatsui in a scene where the two are walking along when Bernice is hit by a stick of fishballs. She immediately yells at them unreservedly, but these kids don't back down and return the favour by calling her a "big mountain woman".

Scolding people very realistically in the scene, Bernice frightened the people around and later she said: "I am usually quite strict with my little brother, but this is just for his own good and I do care for him a lot really, so when I filmed this scene, it was easy to get into character. (Will you hit your brother?) No, but he will hit me because we have both learned Taekwondo and once in a final bout, we were faced against each other and I let him win. In fact, I think you have to be stricter with children beucase many children nowadays feel that life is too comfortable and are very stubborn."

Moses Chan, Halina Tam and Bowie Lam were filming on location just outside TVB City for new series "Healing Hands III" yesterday. The scene tells of Halina and Bowie being interviewed at the TV station, but they have an argument and leave with bad feelings. Moses waits outside in his expensive sports car and Bowie realises that Halina is Moses's girlfriend. When Moses sees Halina leaving, he immediately gives her a kiss on the cheek. Even though it was filmed by camera angle positioning, Moses was still rather nervous and NG'ed many times, making the director instruct him to be more intimate as he laughed "You look like you are talking to Halina, not kissing her!". A rather embarrassed Moses showed a red face and showed that even the new generation of 'housewife killer' is a shy guy!

Yesterday's weather was extremely hot, but in order to fit in with the storyline, Moses had to wear a long sleeved shirt and look relaxed as he read a book in the car and took his pills. When the press saw him frying in the strong sun, they all felt very sorry for him and after the filming, it could be seen that his back was soaking wet with sweat. Afterwards, when asked if he found it tough, he smiled: "It was okay! (You were taking pills before, are you ill?) No, it is part of the storyline as it tells of my character contracting SARS and suffering from the after effects so he has to take medication. (But Bowie is ill already after just a few days work?) Really? I only started filming today, so I didn't know."

Halina plays Moses's girlfriend in the show, but as she is too ruthless in getting what she wants, they finally split up.

Also, as Moses has a seven or eight year old son in the show, Halina has many scenes with the young actor and she admits that she is a little worried about working with the child actor as she has had little experience with children and the kids of today are rather smart, so she is afraid that she cannot control him. She laughs: "I would rather work with animals because I am very afraid of children crying because when that happens I will give them whatever they want."

probably when he was younger. i'm not sure, sry!

here's some Moses news... he used to make Cat III movies.. oh well.. the past is the past =]

Hong Kong TV star Moses Chan once made a Category III movie "Twenty Something" for producer Chan Ho San and thinking back to those days of filming makes him feel rather uncomfortable. In the film, Moses played a worker whose girlfriend had left him and this led him to become very depressed and to have one night stands with many women. Having come to Singapore to promote Hong Kong series, Moses says: "That was my first category III film and my only one." He admits: "I was very uncomfortable making it at the time." However, Moses feels that despite the rather seedy material in the film, the storyline was very true to life.

Moses is currently filming for "Healing Hands III" and with the recent news of Lawrence Ng's romantic outings, he says that Lawrence keeps his working life separate from his personal life: "Lawrence has a very professional attitude and this has not affected his work." He reveals that he will be reprising his doctor role from the last series. "Although this doctor is very materialistic, he is not an evil person. I will focus on his emotional scenes with his son." In response to the recent news of traffic accidents involving artistes pushing the blame onto the company and saying they are not getting enough sleep, Moses says that having entered showbiz, then you should be prepared for this: "When I am not working, I will try and get as much time to rest as I can."

[Moses's series "The Family Man" is currently airing in Singapore. Also "Better Halves" will be airing on 30/7 and "Take My Word for it" on 3/8.]

Female star Bernice Liu appeared as a guest recently at the concert of Sam Hui and she reveals that many girls went for the audition and maybe she was chosen because she has a foreigner feel to her. She praises Sam as a good person, saying: "He is willing to give me a lot of opportunities. I like to dance, so he let me sing and dance at the concert and I was very happy."

Gigi Lai and Michael Tong were working on filming for "Healing Hands III" yesterday in a watery kiss scene. The two were very focussed and succeeded in creating a fiery passionate scene that started in the pool and moved to the poolside.

In the 33 degree heat, what better way to beat the sun than to go for a swim? Wearing a one piece swimsuit, Gigi appeared at the swimming pool of a residential area and not having appeared in swimwear for a while, Gigi looked ravishing. To start with, Gigi and Michael just did some speaking scenes, but after some warm ups, the couple ended up wrapped around each other in the water in a rather suggestive scene that was sensual and racy. As the passion raged, they ended up kissing in the water, with the help of a cameraman in a wetsuit.

Afterwards, as she waited for the director to get the placings right for the next scene, Gigi took the opportunity to go for a swim, showing off her breast stroke and freestyle with great ease. Maybe she was afraid of revealing too much, so when she left the pool, she immediately wrapped herself with a towel and upon entering the pool, she made sure she was well covered and looked around vigilantly. More fun was in store as after a short rest, the crew moved over to the water slides to continue filming. Lying in the middle of the pool enjoying the sunshine, Michael is provoked by Gigi as she splashes him with water and unable to resist her beauty, Michael grabs her and pulls her into the water as they kiss again, one after another, like passionate lovers as the crew look on wide-eyed, wary of pushing the boundaries of television decency.

On the other hand, also filming for "Healing Hands III". Moses Chan looked rather odd as he appeared wearing a suit on a beach. The bathers were rather alarmed and worried he would suffer from sunstroke. Moses said wearily: "You think I want to dress like this? The story tells that I lose my son on the beach, so I run around looking for my son, not worrying about what I am wearing."

Moses says that he has not had the time recently to be able to enjoy the sunshine and seaside like the people around him because as well as filming for "Healing Hands", he has also been rehearsing for his dance routine in this year's Miss Hong Kong final. He laughs: "Dancing is my weakness, so I have to work even harder."

***WARNING: SOME SPOILERS FOR WAR & BEAUTY***

Gigi Lai, Maggie Cheung, Charmaine Sheh and Moses Chan's ancient drama for TVB "War and Beauty" will be airing on the 23rd of this month. The story tells of the conflicts from within the Imperial Palace as the concunbines fight for power and the love of the emperor. Maggie, Charmaine and Gigi all play concubines respectively in a display of acting talent and seduction.

"War" was filmed earlier in Beijing and it was very cold there at the time, so all the crew had to bear the harsh weather, especially the ladies who had to wear their thin sexy costumes. Among them, Gigi's was the most seductive as her costumes were either shoulderless or camisoles and in one scene, she appears lain on a bed in a very sexy pose, as she waited for the emperor's return. However, after a sly trick from Charmaine, she can only wait.

Gigi said in a telephone interview yesterday: "I was really very cold when I was in Beijing filming because all the costumes were summer clothes, so I had to use over ten warm packs a day to keep warm and even had them on the soles of my feet. In contrast, when we were filming in Hong Kong, we were shooting winter scenes in summer, but it is all worth it because this show was really about acting abilities and all three of us really challenged each other." Talking of her sexy scenes, Gigi said: "The costumes this time are the most beautiful ancient costumes ever, too bad that my character doesn't get a good ending because the emperor finds out about my other lover."

After "To Catch the Uncatchable", TVB will be airing "War and Beauty" as of next week and a group of cast members including Charmaine Sheh, Maggie Cheung, Gigi Lai and Moses Chan took part in a costume parade in a Shatin Shopping Mall yesterday, showing off their Qing costumes on the catwalk. As some of the winter costumes had fur trimmings and the weather was very hot, they all found it quite hard work. With rumours of conflict between Charmaine and Maggie, the couple exchanged no words throughout the event and during the group photo, Charmaine stood with Gigi in the middle, chatting and laughing, whilst Maggie stood to one side, before being pulled back to the middle by the producer.
Rumour-ridden couple Moses Chan and Maggie Cheung have a rather fruitless relationship in the series and it was joked that Moses is having the same experience in real life with Bernice Liu. When he heard this, Moses laughed dryly twice before saying that he did not want to discuss this any more. After this, whenever Bernice's name was mentioned, he seemed rather embarrassed.

Talking of so many people being concerned about his rumours with Bernice, Moses says: "It's enough! I have already explained the situation and I don't want to make it any bigger. (Will you avoid letting Bernice visit your home in the future?) No, we have nothing to hide, but I will not talk about this any more to avoid hurting her or affecting her work. Even as friends, I feel bad about it, so please give me some space."

Also, talking of the complaints around his rather steamy dance act with Mandy Cho at the Miss Hong Kong final, Moses says that this was arranged by the choreographers and part of the performance. He hopes that people will not see this in a sordid light and look at it as an art form. With comments that he danced quite well, he says: "Dancing is actually a weakness for me, so I have tried my best. Of course Bernice dances well, she has a dance background!" When asked if he would ask Bernice for advice, he laughs that he does not know how to respond.

[Ta Kung Pao 23/08/04]
With the recent rumours linking Bernice Liu with Moses Chan, she has been chased around by the press and the earlier kiss scenes between her and Bowie Lam whilst filming for "Healing Hands III" was affected by the presence of press who were constantly shooting photos and this not only upset her, but also caused her to leave half way.

When asked about this event, Bowie explained the situation on Bernice's behalf: "She did not lose her temper, just that the story told of her being in low spirits, so she had to chat with me." Bernice did not leave half way, the change was made to film the rest in the studio because of the interference from the press. As for the kiss scene, it was to be led by Bernice, because in the show, her character has a crush on Bowie. Talking of the rumours between Bernice and Moses, Bowie says: "It has been so bad for them recently, always being followed by the paparazzi and having to escape by the back door after work." Bowie also praises Moses for being a good man, but not assertive enough.

When Moses was asked if he has had a lot of problems, he says: "Not really, I don't have any problems. (But you have to escape by the back door?) Actually I have always been afraid of being followed and if I don't see them, I can pretend they are not there, but the press are so open about their actions that I cannot escape them."

As for rumoured girlfirend Bernice losing her temper, Moses laughs: "Don't ask me, I don't know! (Will you call her to see how she is?) I do not do these things and we have not seen each other in private, just bumping into each other at work." In "Healing Hands III", Bernice also has romantic scenes with Moses, but it is unknown whether there will be a kiss scene because the script has not yet been released. When asked whether he is worried that the writers will create a kiss scene for them as a result of these rumours, he laughs: "No, if there was one, then there will be one, if not, then there will not be one."

[Ta Kung Pao 03/09/04]

TVB's new series "War and Beauty" reached an average first week rating of 30 points with a peak at 32 points and with these good results of recent times, a celebratory party was held yesterday afternoon. Cast members taking part included Bowie Lam, Gigi Lai, Moses Chan and Sheren Tang who joined producer Chik Kei Yi. Maggie Cheung and Charmaine Sheh are both currently filming in China, so were unable to attend.

Since the show began filming, there have been constant rumours about the animoscity between Charmaine and Maggie and when Bowie was asked if he noticed any hostility during filming, he says that although he is known to be observant, he did not notice anything untoward between them and he felt that all the female cast members worked hard in their performances. In particular, he felt that Sheren had very long and difficult lines and if she made a mistake, then she would cause delay for everyone else, so with so much concentration, there was little time to care about anything else. Bowie laughs: "This is my first appearance in an ancient drama and in one scene, although I had learned my lines over several days, I still had forty NG's and I have never tried this before, so I cried out loud. Moses was rather more relaxed because his lines were more colloquial."

As for the show's good results, Bowie believes that they will get even better and hopes that they can break the ratings records of Dayo Wong's "To Catch the Uncatchable" for this year.He laughs: "Although I am envious of Dayo, he does have his own inimitable style of performing." With so many NG's making him cry in this ancient drama, will Bowie be taking on more ancient roles in the future? He laughs that if Chik Kei Yi films it, then he will because there is a guarantee there.

Also, Gigi's performance has been criticised for breathing too loudly and producer Chik explained this on her behalf, saying: "This is actually part of her performance, because at first her character is very naive and child-like and this is part of the design of the role." He does not feel that Charmaine and Maggie are not getting along and says that if they were really at odds, then you would be able to see it in the performance because they would not be able to interact.

Gigi has been aware of the recent news surrounding the arguments on the internet between Charmaine and Maggie's fans and she says that in comparison, her own fans would not be so extreme and at the very least not hurl abuse at each other. She says: "I do understand that fans have their own idols, but luckily my fans are more mellow."

Talking of the disharmony, Gigi immediately lifted her arms in surrender: "I don't know! When I wasn't working, I was hiding in my room and even the producer complained that I never went out with them to eat. (What were you doing in your room?) Doing beauty treatments and exercise because the weather there was cold and dry and if I didn't keep my face moisturised, it would turn bad. I did not want to bear the cold and go out for dinner because I was cold enough when I was working." She reveals that because she is afraid of the cold, she would keep all the windows in her room closed and on one occasion when she lit a small coal fire for a hot pot, she nearly suffocated herself. Luckily her assistant discovered her in time to avoid an accident.

As for the many praises she is receiving for her evil performance in "War", Gigi says a little embarrassed: "All four girls are very evil, but actually it is not real evil, rather that they are protecting themselves in a hostile environment where if you did not play tactics, you would be dead." Is she confident of winning an award this year? She says: "Winning awards is about being in the right place at the right time and as long as people praise my performance, then I am very happy because the most important thing is a good review."

Sheren Tang plays an evil concubine in "War", but she feels that the audience are understanding and will not scold her in public, calling her by her character's name "Yu Fei" instead and even discussing the plot with her. Sheren smiles: "Times have changed and viewers understand that there are good and evil people, so playing the bad guy no longer causes people's negative reactions."

Sheren's acting talent has always been praised and this time is no exception, however, she criticises herself, saying that she has only just reached the standard this time and feels she could have done better, but thanks to the editing and sound, she has received good reviews. She admits that her lines were long and difficult, so she had plenty of NG's and she burst out crying at one point. This is the first time that she has cried because of NG's and she is very thankful for the support from her co-stars and the cast and crew.

Also, Moses recorded the theme song for new series "Blossoming Hearts" yesterday and beforehand, he had been rehearsing for a while. He finds that singing is much more difficult than acting because you have to use your breath to express your emotion. When asked if he will be releasing an album later, he laughs: "At the moment, the most important thing is to hone my voice, I don't want to think too far into the future." As for whether he will dress as a Qing lady if the show hits 40 points, he smiles: "If everyone is happy then I will do it, for entertainment value then I don't mind."

[The Sun 04/09/04]

Recently, the producer of "Healing Hands III", Chik Kei Yi has been the subject of gossip that reveals him to be the owner of the Porsche that is driven by Moses Chan in the series and accusing him of looking after his own interests as he charges the company rental for the use of the car. However, Moses supports Chik, saying: "Why would he want to do this for money?"

TVB has recently been on an economy drive, so when crew members found out that the Porsche that is driven by Moses Chan's character in "Healing Hands III" belongs to no other than the show's producer Chik Kei Yi, who is charging the company $3000 an session for its use, there were plenty of comments passed because with the car being used two or three times a week, Chik appears to be looking after his own interests as he stands to make about $100,000 from the thirty episode series from the car rental alone. With suggestions that the company is 'helping him out', Chik is rather put out by this.

Reports indicate that Chik is very upset by these rumours because the reason he agreed to lend his car was to try and save the company money, but he has been accused of putting himself first. What annoys him most is the story that this car was sold to him by a cast member of "Virtues of Harmony" for the bargain price of $600,000. When Moses was called and asked to comment, he supported his producer, saying: "People saying these things is very unfair to Chik because $3000 is just a token payment. In reality the car is just used for a few scenes and if the company wanted to rent such a nice car externally, they could end up paying over $10,000 per session. People who know him know how much he treasures his cars and when we scratched it, he was very upset, so he would definitely not do this just for the money." Producer Chik was called to comment, but had not responded at time of going to press.

TVB's new series "War and Beauty" has had a good reaction since its airing and a group of cast members including Gigi Lai, Bowie Lam, Moses Chan and Rebecca Chan took part in a radio interview with CRHK. Although the ratings have been good for the show, it is surrounded with gossip and there are indications that there was conflict off camera between some of the female cast members. To this, Moses says simply that he had little time to worry about this, because it was hard work filming for this show. As for Bowie, he says that he is a man of great clarity, but he only noticed a battle of talent and beautiful costumes and no fights for placings.

Gigi says that the positions are choreographed in advance and there is no chance of getting extra airtime just by speaking to the producer. Bowie indicates that each person's screentime is very equal, but he does think that some people should spend more time thinking about their acting. When asked who he was hinting at, he says that he is not just talking about artistes in "War", other people in other shows are the same and should spend more time working on their performance than worrying about fighting for exposure. After saying this, Bowie went on to praise Gigi for putting her heart and strength into the show and Gigi said: "Rumours of conflict is a promotional tactic, after so many years in the business, I will not mind this. I know what I have done and as long as I can justify it to myself, it is okay."

Gigi has been in showbiz for nearly twenty years and has given people the feeling of being a 'vase character' all along. She admits that five years ago, she would not play any characters that were not acceptable, but now she will face it as just an act. "In the past people probably saw Gigi Lai as a pretty face and great figure, a goddess of beauty, so two years ago, I decided to do a good show for everyone and now I have fulfilled an ambition." As for whether she is confident that 'Yuk Ying' will receive an award at the end of the year, she says that she is not a TVB contracted artiste, so she is not eligible for an award, but she feels that for TVB to give her this role, it is already like getting an award.

After the news reports broke that Moses Chan failed attempts to date Bernice Liu resulted in the two keeping out of each other's way, the rumoured couple met again whilst filming on location for "Healing Hands III". The press expected them to be awkward, but they both seemed very relaxed and were chatting on and off camera. Bernice even said openly: "There is nothing between us, so why would we feel awkward? All the cast members are very united and we know that we will be followed, so we tip each other off." She also says that she has been followed so much by the press that she has been very annoyed and her father has had to become her driver because he is afraid that she will speed to get away from the reporters.

Earlier on whilst filming in Wong Chuk Hang, the mosquitoes and the boredom made Bernice rather irritable, but after heading to Wanchai for her scene with Moses, she seemed a lot happier. Bernice is not only getting along well with the other cast members, as most of her scenes are with Bowie and Moses, she is getting special care from these two men. However, there is only room for one man in Bernice's heart at the moment and that is her devoted father!

TVB's grand production ancient drama "War and Beauty" has had good results since it began airing and a group of cast members including Gigi Lai, Bowie Lam, Moses Chan and Sheren Tang gathered yesterday for a mid-autumn festival promotion that attracted a crowd of several hundred members of the public in a very packed venue. During the event, the artistes joined the audience in playing games and in one 'xiunui pageant' game, they followed the storyline and sniffed some little girls' body odour, causing a few laughs.

The cast of "War" agree that the show has become the talk of the town and Bowie even says confidently: "Almost all of Hong Kong is watching the show, it has become a trend and if you don't watch it, you will have nothing to talk about the next day when you get back to work. I am very happy because I have never made a show that has gripped the public like this and motivate society." Bowie goes on to suggest that the producer should film a prequel to the show and laughs that this should tell of Gigi's romances when she was 24.

When Gigi was asked whether she is confident that her character 'Yuk Ying' will win the award for 'My Favourite Female Lead Role' this year, she shakes her head and says: "To win good reviews and the praise from everyone is already an award. If TVB will give me the award, then it would be even better, but I am not a TVB person and I have not made that many series for TVB, so the award is down to the time, the place and the people. However, I have pledged that apart from giving my fidelity to my husband after I get married, then my faith belongs to TVB for life because I do not like filming elsewhere as I get homesick." As for the suggestion of the fighting and conflict in "War" being a reduced reflection on society, Gigi indicates that to live happily is the best and she hates all the deception and conflict. If she was really the character she plays, she would rather not live. She also hopes that the show will reach the results of "War of Genders", saying: "If the show passes 40 points, I will wear a bikini!"

Moses indicates that even Chow Yun Fat is watching the show: "I heard from a friend that Brother Fat said that as TVB has not produced this type of show for a while, then it is worth watching." As for what happens in the end, none of the cast would let on, with Sheren saying: "Two die and two live. (They say you will go crazy in the end?) The person who wrote that is crazy!"

[Ta Kung Pao & Oriental Daily 23/09/04]

Rumoured couple Moses Chan and Bernice Liu took part as guests at the opening of a new fashion outlet yesterday, holding hands sweetly as they walked down the catwalk together. However, when the press asked them to do it again afterwards, they refused. Bernice said openly that they held hands because the organisers had asked them to do this, but there was no need to off the stage, but one of the PR team later indicated that they had only been asked to walk happily down the catwalk and not as Bernice had suggested to hold hands.

Talking of holding hands with Moses on stage, Bernice says that she did not mind it at all because they have filmed together in Australia before and also in the series "Blossoming Hearts", they played a dating couple that later got married. Now they are working together on "Healing Hands III", so she laughs that they are not dating, but just working together. This arrangement at the event was arranged via TVB as they are both managed by the company and it was a suitable job that fit in with their schedules with a reasonable fee. Bernice reckons that the company maybe liked her healthy image and she likes to wear more casual clothes. Does she feel that Moses suits these clothes too? She laughs that as he used to be a model, then he should be the one suggesting clothes to her.

With the mid-autumn festival soon approaching, Bernice says that she will be working on that day, but it holds little significance for her, especially as she grew up overseas, then only the Chinese New Year is celebrated and the other Chinese festivals are largely overlooked.

As for Moses, when he was asked about holding Bernice's hand, he laughed: "We were just working!" He says bluntly that this is their first commercial appearance since the rumours broke, but their fee has not risen as a result and is still the industry standard. He is also not worried that this will fuel the rumours and jokes: "If I am getting paid, then why not?" He also explains that the hand-holding was a requirement of the organisers and he had no reservations about it because he holds a professional attitude. What if they had asked them to kiss? He says that this would depend on the situation.

During the event, they had to select outfits for two children on the stage and at the end, they gave the kids a little kiss, at which point the host laughed: "Why don't the adults kiss too?" before commenting that the family of four was very cute and embarrassing them both a little. Afterwards, Moses said he did not mind because the company had arranged for them to appear as a couple and it was just a day at work for them. Talking of the good results for "War and Beauty", Moses smiles that hopes for even more improvement. Who will win the award for favourite female role this year? He says that all the female leads are very good, but if he had to choose, he would pick Sheren Tang because her character 'Yu Fei' is very devious and difficult to play well. As for the male leads, he says that this is a female orientated show, so there will be little breakthrough for the male leads.

On yesterday's mid-autumn festival, a group of cast members from TVB's "War and Beauty", including Bowie Lam, Gigi Lai, Moses Chan, Bibi Wong and Patricial Liu headed to Tsimshatsui in the afternoon to celebrate with the public. As well as cutting fruit to share with the locals, the artistes also handed out mooncakes and lanterns and in a scramble by the audience to receive the gifts, there was some disorder, but luckily no-one was hurt.

"War and Beauty" will finish airing on Saturday and the next series to air will be the TVB and Thai joint production "Split Second". The show's cast, including Patrick Tam, Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan, Mandy Cho, Lai Lok Yi and Marco Ngai took part in a war game promotion for the show yesterday where they were split into two games for a paintball match. Eventually Mandy, Kevin and Lok Yi's team lost and had to give up their backs as a target for the winning team to fire at them. Afterwards, Mandy indicated that her legs and thighs were hurting but she dare not turn around for fear of being hit in the face.

This is Mandy's first appearance in a series and although she does not have a very big part, she still hopes for good ratings. Kevin and Lok Yi really looked after her whilst filming and this made her very happy indeed as she felt very fortunate.

As for the show being aired straight after the highly popular "War", Kevin admits that he feels some pressure, but he will just have to see how the ratings go. He says: "After all the two shows are very different, one is very feminine and the other is more masculine. We all had a very happy time filming and we enjoyed the experience, so we feel we have already won." Talking of there being a lot of gossip in the female shows, but there being no gossip in this 'masculine' show, will this mean they lose out on the promotional stakes? Kevin says: "Men fight more openly! They wouldn't be so jealous or devious because that just looks bad!"

Patrick Tam has just finished filming the new Jackie Chan movie "King Tin Juen Kei" (Direct Translation: "Amazing Legend") and he says that Jackie arranged for a fast food trailer on the set for them, just like they do in Hollywood and this opened his eyes because he has never been treated this well. Later, Patrick will be heading back to the mainland to film CCTV production "Yang Nai Wu and Xiao Bai Cai" where he will star opposite Christy Chung in the title roles. It will be at least next year before he returns to film for TVB again.

Talking of the recent incident of 'acting becoming reality' [Ref: Dicky Cheung and Nicholas Tse were accused of beating up some Mainland actors off camera.], Patrick indicates that he will would like to see how Dicky is and as for one of the victims Wang Bai Zhao feeling that their apology was insincere and insisting on taking the incident to court, Patrick says: "As a friend, I would urge Dicky to write another notice because there is no point in ruining one's career in the mainland. There are often injuries during filming and as for whether it was intentional or not, then this is hard to tell because as an actor, you do not wish for NG's (retakes), otherwise you will be be even more injured with the extra blows. (Some people feel that Dicky does not respect Mainland actors?) I have worked with Dicky before in 'Duke of Mount Deer 2000' and from what I know of him, he is not that kind of person. He is very friendly to even the actors playing the smallest roles."

Also, with his role in "Split Second", Patrick says that he does have hopes for each show that is aired and this time, his hopes are even greater because he has quite a large role. Talking of the audience seemingly preferring the more feminine shows, he laughs: "I believe that the company will have calculated it correctly, after all series have to be varied and I hope that the men will not let us down. (Do you feel pressure from what can be gained?) Of course, I hope it will not be far off the ratings for 'War and Beauty'."

[Ta Kung Pao & Oriental Daily 06/10/04]

Niki Chow, Moses Chan, Cindy Au, Michelle Yim, Wayne Lai and director Tailik Lee were among the stars taking part in the costume fitting for new series "Scholar Meets Soldier" yesterday. In the show, Niki plays a constable and Moses plays a weak scholar. Tradition is turned upside down as the female star has to do the wirework and fighting scenes, whereas Moses looks after the comedic scenes.

In order to face her performance, Niki has been practicing her martial arts skills and she says pitifully: "Whenever I have time, I have to practise doing the splits and arching my back. It is like doing acrobatics and the injury ointment is fast becoming my latest perfume. It also gives me the feeling of practising for the anniversary celebration show - that's true, I can practice for my act in that show now." Will Niki be doing her own fight scenes in the show? She says: "Apart from the somersaults that they don't need me to do, then practically all the fighting scenes will be done by me. The reason why I have been excused from somersaults is because I had an injury before where one of the vertebrae in my neck is slightly misaligned, so the doctor told me to be careful of my neck." Knowing it will be hard work, Niki looks at Moses with an expression of envy: "He does not need to fight because he plays a scholar." When Moses hears this, he says laughingly: "I have a licence to have fun this time. My character is responsible for the laughs, so he just talks and does not need to fight and I can show off my comedy potential."

Cindy will be playing the evil role in the show, so she jokes that she will be the "Ancient Ding Hai". As Cindy's earlier productions have not yet been aired yet, she hopes that this show will allow her to gauge some response from the viewers. As boyfriend Roger Kwok is currently filming in China, Cindy indicates that there will be many festivals this year, such as mid-autumn, Valentines Day and the new year that she will not be able to spend with him but they keep in touch by phone and this has not affected their relationship.

Director Tailik Lee praised Sheren Tang for her performance as 'Yu Fei' in "War and Beauty" and Sheren was a guest on the latest episode of "Super Trio Show" filmed yesterday, together with Carlo Ng. When asked about the comments from Lee, Sheren says: "I have worked with Lee before and he did call me recently to invite me onto his radio show. Unfortunately I did not have time, but I will have to really try and fit him into my schedule. Since filming "War", Sheren reveals that she has had two offers of work in movies and she hs very interested, but she will not worry too much about the fee as long as she likes the role, then this is not an issue.

With her recent popularity, Sheren raised quite a stir from the audience as she was introduced onto "Super" by Eric Tsang. Before the filming started, a celebratory party was held for the great ratings of the second episode airing and Eric sprayed all the artistes with champagne, laughing: "We can't let Sheren take all the limelight."

TVB's ancient drama "War and Beauty" has had excellent ratings and the airing of the final episode reached a massive 40 points that tops all records since 1998 for a weekend finale screening. To celebrate these good results and to show gratitude to the cast and crew, TVB held a celebratory party in a Tsimshatsui hotel yesterday, attended by cast and crew as well as a number of TVB executives, including Deputy Administrative Chairman Leung Nai Pang, General Manager Chan Chi Wan, Deputy Production Department Chief Lok Yik Ling and Drama Department Deputy Chief Catherine Tsang.

This is the first celebratory party attended by Mr Leung since he assumed his current position, but he is also a fan of the show and he knows each character very well and congratulated each cast member in turn. He said: "I am acting on behalf of the board as I chat to and support everyone. 'War' is the hot topic of conversation at the moemnt and I am very pleased to be here. (Will there be a sequel or prequel to 'War'?) The most important thing is to have more of these events and more good series, not necessarily a sequel. (will you be offering bonuses to reward your staff?) This is an administrative decision, I am only representing the board of directors."

Mr Chan responded to constantly being asked about a follow up to the hit series and said quite firmly yesterday that there would not be a prequel or sequel to the show because they want to leave it on a high. However, there will be a special edition DVD release of the series soon. As for the ratings for the following series "Split Second" achieving an average of 28 points in its first week, Mr Chan says that this is not bad, but there will always be pressure after a good predecessor. As for "Split" being accused of copying storylines from other sources, Mr Chan admits that there has been some research into the other productions, but "Split" is a grand production and even the music is specially composed to give it the feeling of a movie.

Bowie Lam and Moses Chan had previously agreed to dress up as palace maids if the ratings for "War" went to forty points and yesterday they kept to their word as Bowie appeared dressed as Yu Fei and Moses took the guise of the Empress. The female stars also did a character swap as Gigi became the Emperor and Charmaine took on the identity of Suen Pak Yeung. As for Sheren Tang, she became her maid in the show Bo Sim. As the five stars performed a short sketch on the stage, Mr Chan also caught the acting bug as he joined in playing Suen Pak Yeung's father.

When Bowie and Moses appeared, everyone present called out how ugly they were and Mr Chan even referred to Moses as a Filipino, but Moses said confidently: "Of course I am prettier, I am just too attractive! (Someone feels that your look is frightening.) Yes, we are so beautiful that it is frightening. (You are too tall, you don't look like a woman.) Models can be this tall." This is the second time that Moses has appeared as a woman, after his performance as Pan Jinlian in last year's anniversary show left people feeling rather queasy. When asked why he flutters his eyelids and pouts so much, he laughs: "This is my flirting, it makes me look pretty. I also have to breathe in to enhance my breasts!" After saying this, he pulls away his cloak to demonstrate and nearly bursts out of his costume.

Bowie responds to the harsh criticisms of him and Moses, saying helplessly: "It can't be helped, men dressed as women do look horrific. (Who is more horrendous of you both?) He is more scary, because his face is very square, whereas mine is a little rounder, but we both do look ugly." Bowie's make up took nearly two hours to put on and he complained that he nearly couldn't handle it.

Bowie will be releasing an album this weekend that includes the theme songs for "War and Beauty", "Vigilante Force" and "Invisible Journey". He has also invited Gigi Lai, Kenix Kwok, Bobby Au Yeung, Yoyo Mung and Maggie Siu to duet with him. As he has not released an album for two years, he hopes that the sales will be satisfactory. Talking of whether he is rushing to make the Jade Solid Gold awards for this year and whether he is in a better position as a TVB artiste, he says that he is not releasing his album in the capacity of an actor or a newcomer.

[Ta Kung Pao & The Sun 15/10/04]

Hit TVB drama "War and Beauty" has finished airing, but many viewers still miss the classic scenes and there has been a surge of pirated VCD's available on the market. In order to avoid losing out on the profits of this popularity, TVB has decided in a unique move to launch a set of limited edition special boxed set DVD's of the series at the beginning of November. There will only be 3000 sets available that are available for pre-order and the normal VCD sets will not yet be available.

TVB's Deputy External Affairs Chief Tsang Sing Ming indicates that in the past, TVB will only release VCD versions of series at least five years after the show has been aired, so releasing this special edition DVD set is a groundbreaking move. This special set of DVD's will be packaged in a gold-coloured box containing eleven DVD's with three episodes in each one. The discs also contain subtitles in traditional and simplified Chinese as well as English. There will also be a bonus DVD that includes interviews with the cast and crew and some behind the scenes footage as well as autographed postcards of the six leads, a souvenir brochure, a copy of On Sin's handkerchief and Yee Shun's herb pouch. Each DVD set will be individually numbered and priced at $588. TVB will also be holding an autograph session with the stars upon the launch of the DVD set.

A fight has already started for the reservations for these sets, with most of the sets with serial numbers containing 8's and 9's already gone. Also, there are some rumours as to why only On Sin and Yee Shun's items are included - is this a suggestion of who will win this year's favourite female lead award?

Priority for the reservation has been given first to TVB staff and artistes and when Charmaine Sheh heard about these sets, she was very excited, saying: "I am still choosing my favourite numbers and my family and friends have already asked me to order some for them. I don't mind which number I get." Currently in Shanghai, Maggie Cheung indicates: "I will try my best to get some, I hope to get a few more for my family and friends and stand a better chance of receiving a lucky number." Bowie Lam says he did not know about internal pre-ordering, saying: "We should give more opportunities to the public, but I will buy one as a keepsake." Gigi Lai indicates that the company has reserved one for her as a souvenir and Sheren Tang says: "I have chosen my birthday date 0302! I am planning on buying two sets, but I think 3000 is too few and will result in broking." As for Moses Chan, he says the company has saved a set for him and when asked what number he would like on it, he says: "I don't like the number 8." TVB Production Resources Deputy Chief Lok Yik Ling indicates that she does not believe that there is a fight for numbers going on internally, but she has bought several sets for her friends.

As for the fight on already for internal orders, distributing company Modern Audio's General Manager Chim Fung says: "Although the box set has not yet officially been launched, the response from internal orders has already been very active and the lucky numbers of 8 and 9 have had a lot of reservations on them. There have also been some duplicate requests, so we will handle these accordingly." With this sudden decision to release the DVD's, is this to do with the fight against piracy? Mr Chim replies: "Not at all, it is just to meet the demands of the markets. (Are you worried that 3000 sets will not be enough?) We don't want to spoil the occasions, so we will not be publishing any more limited editions. (Will there be an ordinary version?) It will be at least three or four years before the normal versions will be available."

Em's note:
If you're interested in ordering a copy of the DVD box set, you can click on the link below for the TVB.com e-shop. However, it is currently ONLY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING TO HONG KONG ADDRESSES, so you might have to call on friends or relatives to help you out here. If I find out about overseas availability, I will update.

[Oriental Daily 16/10/04]

Bowie Lam, Lawrence Ng and Moses Chan were filming yesterday for "Healing Hands III" in a rescue scene there the three see a car that has crashed into a fire hydrant and they all had to get wet whilst they rescued the victim. Moses and Bowie are just missed by the crashing car resulting in a very exciting and dangerous scene.

Moses Chan indicates that he has no hopes of winning the award, saying: "The women are very strong this year and the fight is very exciting. As for the men, I don't have much of a chance, so I will be supporting Bowie. (Bowie revealed that you left by the back door to evade rumours though!) I will always support my friends." Lawrence has not been paying attention to the anniversary awards, but he feels that to be a 'favourite' and to have talent are two different things and it is therefore difficult to judge.

TVB's AIDS charity show received the support of many generous donors and raised a total of over seven million dollars. Although there was a whole host of stars at the event, including Hacken Lee, Kelly Chen, Joey Yung, Andy Hui and Deanie Ip, the line-up was led by the currently extremely popular stars of "War and Beauty" - Sheren Tang, Bowie Lam and Moses Chan, who sung the first song of the evening "Sounds of Love" and Sheren was carried onto the stage on a decorated sedan chair.

Sheren says that she was not too nervous at the time, but she has not sung for a long time and luckily the act was mimed to a recording and she can still handle that. As for being carried out onto the stage, she thought at first that she would be wearing a Qing costume and was quite shocked. When she found out that she would be wearing a modern evening dress, she breathed a sigh of relief. Talking of singing, Sheren's deepest memory is of eight or nine years ago when she performed a song by Lam Man Chung at the Shanghai Paris Songwriting Contest and she was very nervous then. Currently being promoted so heavily by TVB and stepping above so many other popular stars, does Sheren feel that she is the most outstanding of all the 'War and Beauty' characters? Sheren says that this is just a gimmick and not about winning or losing, she is not in any contest, just bringing the show to thew viewers.

Moses is so professional..and I think he looks hot in these pics smile.gif

[Oriental Daily]

Moses Chan was filming with over a hundred extras in the Lam Tei Quarry for a sales presentation clip "Yellow Earth Great Lands". This was a massive fighting scene and the usually rather reserved Moses seemed to be possessed by a fighter as he suddenly showed a surge of aggressions and even his weapon was broken in the process.

Dubbed 'housewife killer', Moses usually wins his fans over with his studious sophisticated image, but as well as being the smooth charmer, Moses can even deal with the more violent fighting roles with ease. Yesterday's scene tells of quarry worker Moses bringing a band of brothers to rescue Sonija Kwok and a bloody battle ensues in the open quarry. To make the scene even more realistic, TVB invested in the appearance of over a hundred extras and the vast number of people meant that when the chaos began, there was dust and sand everywhere in what was a grand scene.

One scene shows Moses fighting a large group of people single handedly and before filming, he still seemed rather quiet and studious, but as soon as the cameras started rolling, he was completely different, wearing a terrifying expression on his face and full of aggression. In one scene, he overdid the strength and broke the scythe he was holding into two and had to ask for a replacement from the crew.

Working recently on "Healing Hands III", Moses plays a doctor who has more verbal scenes, so it is a lot easier than "Yellow Earth" where there are plenty of fight scenes. When asked if he is used to having so many action scenes, Moses says: "It's no problem, I can adapt to it. In the past when I filmed movies, there were a lot of fighting scenes, so I don't find it hard work at all."

With a background of the early Nationalist period, "Yellow Earth" tells of Moses and Sonija's characters who grew up together, but after many challenges from fate, Sonija becomes the mistress to a rich man and Moses is very upset.

Sheren Tang and Moses Chan were invited to a watch brand promotional event yesterday and they were each given a watch worth $27,000. Moses indicates that the effects of "War and Beauty" mean that he has received four or five extra jobs recently and even his long sought after real estate promotion job has now been agreed, making him happy. When asked about his fighting scene the previous day, he says: "In the past when I was making movies, I was always in fighting scenes, so when I picked up the machete yesterday, it was rather emotional. I am a very simple man, so playing a farmer or a beggar is perfect for me."

As his series are filming back to back, with "Healing Hands III" finishing, Moses will be heading straight onto film "Scholar Meets Soldier". Will this mean he will lose out on the opportunity to make some more money? Moses says that this is not the case and even if it is then it doesn't matter because he is not greedy and with his current opportunities, he is already happy. As for how he will be rewarding himself with the money he is making, he indicates that he will save it all up for a rainy day. Talking of the good response received by "War", is he more confident about the male lead role award? He says that his confidence has not been high all along because his character was rather ordinary, whereas Bowie Lam and Sheren's characters had more depth and so he feels that they will win the award.

Sheren was having close chats with the Managing Director and Creative Director of the watch company, Christian Bedat and she laughs that she was just telling him not to invite any tall models next time so that she does not look so short in comparison. She admires talented and successful businessmen, but unfortunately she has not got one pursuing her at the moment. However, she will not go out chasing one herself because women need to be more reserved. In fact, Sheren is rather enjoying her single life at the moment and does not mind spending the festivals on her own and so she is not too eager to start dating.

Niki Chow and Moses Chan were at the blessing ceremony for new series "Scholar Meets Soldier" yesterday and in response to reports that Mandy Cho's constant NG's lead to complaints from her co-stars, Niki says she will not have the same problem: "In this series, I do an awful lot of fighting and I am always dangling from wires. Usually the NG's are not down to human error but more to do with technical difficulties!"

Co-star Moses has recently received an offer to promote real estate and he laughs that to be able to shoot a suit advertisement has been an ambition for him: "My price is not high, but I don't understand why people did not ask me. This ad was thanks to the company. I had always wanted to do suit and real estate ads, so if I can them them both then it would be a dream come true!"

[Ta Kung Pao & The Sun 01/11/04]

After recently gaining success in "War and Beauty", Moses Chan was invited to a chocolate promotion yesterday, visiting four supermarkets across Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories to talk about his own insights into food and drink as well as how to enjoy chocolate. He also played games with the audience, attracting a large number of OL's (office ladies) and their families in the crowd.

Moses indicates that he has been a long time fan of Ferroro Rocher chocolates and as he explained the four layer make up of the chocolates, he seemed very knowledgeable. He then indicated that the innermost hazelnut is his favourite. He says: "I have great expectations of my food and drink, especially with chocolate. I like this brand because it has great texture as well as a lovely taste and flavour."

Also, in order to build up an atmosphere, the organisers had arranged for Moses to flirt with some of the audience as he selected three ladies and one of them had to feed him five types of nuts. With many envious faces in the audience, the atmosphere was electric. In the end, when one lady chose the same favourite flavour as Moses, he presented her with some chocolate flowers and she was both overjoyed and embarrassed but could not stop smiling. When Moses was asked what methods he has of winning ladies' hearts, he says secretively: "I cook for them!" He also says that the worse the food tastes, the more she will remember him!

[Ta Kung Pao, Oriental Daily & The Sun 06/11/04]

"War and Beauty" has aired and gone, but due to the great success of the show, the female leads have landed themselves with a number of advertising contracts and Sheren Tang shot a set of stills for a facial mask ad yesterday. There have been suggestions that Gigi Lai has not been very flexible with her fee for making advertisements, whereas Sheron has been very accommodating and therefore has taken many jobs that were supposed to be offered to Gigi as a result. In response to this, Sheren says: "How can you say that? Our performance directions are very different, so if they ask her, then they will not ask me!" Sheren says that she does not put much emphasis on the money when she makes ads as there are some jobs that she will not accept and will push up the fee to turn people away, such as breast enhancement or performing at discos and clubs. As Sheren is a staunch feminist, she feels that the value of a woman should not be judged on the size of her breasts. She also opposes slimming by taking pills, so the ad that she did for slimming does not require the use of pills. She feels that apart from making money, she should also show responsibility towards society, so she will in no way skew the market and there is plenty of room for everyone.

Talking of skincare tips, Sheren says that she does not really put much emphasis on her skin, but when she returned from America ten years ago, she found her skin very saggy and poor, making her look quite bad, so she started a new skincare routine. Although she started late, it is better than not doing it all and at least she can keep her looks as she was ten years ago and not age her skin prematurely.

Sheren is hot favourite for the 'Favourite Female Lead' award at this year's anniversary and some betting companies have placed her as favourite with odds of 4-1, but she laughs that she does not bet. As for magazine suggestions that TVB has already decided to award her with 'Outstanding Female Artiste' for the second year running and give the female lead award to someone else, Sheren says that she does not mind whether she wins an award or not as it is all just a game and not worth getting excited about.

When Gigi Lai's friends heard the news about her being second in the running for favourite female lead, they suggested an idea for her and that was to bet on both her and Sheren to win as that way it doesn't matter who wins then there will still be a celebration! Gigi was left speechless as she felt like she was a racehorse! Gigi has been rehearsing hard for her item in the anniversary, but this has brought out all her old injuries and left her with neck pains and leg pains and she could only continue after medical attention.

As for Jessica Hsuan gaining third place in the polls so far for 'My Favourite Television Character', the odds have changed in her favour as they fell from 126-1 to just 21-1. Jessica was asked on the phone yesterday about this and she was very happy, saying that this has boosted her confidence because filming for "Lady Fan" was one of the hardest jobs in her 12 years in the industry and to be able to enter the top three with this role makes her extremely happy.

TVB's anniversary comedy version of "War" has had its cast confirmed, with Eric Tsang and Nat Chan both playing Yu Fei and On Sin in drag, whilst Lydia Shum will be 'XXL' Yuk Ying in their 'faithful re-enactment' of the original. Producer Lam Ka Wing has requested that they do the acts 'seriously', but there is bound to be plenty of improvisation with all these comedy experts around. As for Yee Shun, she will be played by Nancy Sit, the Emperor will be played by Carol Cheng and Bowie Lam and Moses Chan will reprise their roles of Suen Pak Yeung and Hung Mo respectively. Bowie will be performing his final suicide scene with XXL Yuk Ying whilst Moses will have to carry the 'Fat Yu Fei' Eric in the scene where he takes her across the snowy courtyard after she injures her ankle. Just looking at the setup ensures quite a scene!

The original female stars in the show, such as Sheren Tang, Gigi Lai and Charmaine Sheh have not yet confirmed their appearance in the sketch as this will depend on their schedules.

With the DVD versions of "War" being launched earlier this week for open sale, the limited edition issue of just 1700 copies has led to demand far exceeding supply and some retailers have already hiked the price from the original $588 to $888 and even $980. In the Causeway Bay area, sets are even being offered at $1600 each.

[Oriental Daily & The Sun 06/11/04]

Bernice Liu and Moses Chan were revealed by a magazine on a 'secret date' in August and since them have been spotted holding hands at various events and looking to be in love. However, recent reports indicate that despite being the envy of many onlookers, this loving couple have raised the displeasure of TVB boss Catherine Tsang, who has attempted to split them up by urging Moses to 'put his career first' and leaving him in a situation to let go of the relationship and send Bernice back to Hawick Lau. The report goes on to say that in order to get one back on Moses for leaving her, Bernice made up to twenty calls and SMS messages to Hawick, who is filming in Dunhuang, in the space of one day, all asking if they can get back together again in an attempt to spite Moses for his actions.

Reporters heard from an anonymous TVB executive that Bernice's attempts to 'win back' Hawick were very sincere. With these actions just as the Liu-Chan relationship was heating up proves how much it meant to Bernice. As a result, for Hawick in Dunhuang, he could only turn her down against his own will.

When reporters called Dunhuang and spoke to Hawick, he admits that Bernice has been calling him a lot to chat, but when asked about her trying to win him back, he laughs: "You're joking... not at all! (Has Bernice moved you with twenty calls in a day?) Haha, there were never twenty calls, she sent me SMS messages and we just had a chat. (Chatting about reuniting?) Although there are some issues between us, we are still friends and I will not talk about relationships. (How do you feel about Moses giving up his love?) In our current position, everyone is looking to forge their careers, Bernice is the same and so I am, so I am not looking for a date just yet because work comes first."

Bernice is currently rehearsing for the TVB anniversary celebrations and she responded to reporters via her manager, saying that she has called and sent SMS to Hawick, but she will not think about whether there are twenty a day or not. As for trying to 'win back' Hawick, Bernice says this is not true and will not respond.

Riding on the success of "War and Beauty", TVB has launched the DVD special edition and arranged for some of the leading stars, including Gigi Lai, Sheren Tang, Charmaine Sheh, Bowie Lam and Moses Chan to take part in a special autograph session for the first hundred people to buy the set. However, the actual number of people to arrived for autographs was over double that and the event went on for over an hour.

The cast members were very friendly to the public and did not disappoint fans asking for autographs and photos. As 'Yuk Ying' Gigi had sprained her ankle, she received special protection from the security staff in case she was pushed over by the crowds. She was limping when she arrived and her left ankle was wrapped in a bandage. As she was the firs to arrive, she visited the washrooms and was surrounded by a group of security guards who made a path for her and caused a sensation as she gave the impression that the 'Lady Concubine' had arrived. Gigi's popularity at the event was quite high, but Sheren was not weak either, even though she had lost her voice through illness the previous day. She explains: "I was suffering quite badly with flu and I even lost my voice yesterday and was so worried I would not be able to speak today!" When she saw Gigi, she commented to her: "Why are we both so unlucky?" As they were both unwell, they chatted to each other and kept the other company, leaving Charmaine on her own. Charmaine glanced over at the pair a few times, but did not have the opportunity to join their conversation.

Gigi's injury was caused during rehearsals for her anniversary dance routine. She says that she had injured her ligament before and this was not serious, but it needed to be bandaged to avoid swelling and she has to stop rehearsing for the time being and rest her leg. However, she says she will not give up on the performance because of the injury and she thinks she can begin rehearsing again in a few days time. A British betting company has laid on odds for who will take the TVB awards this year and Sheren is the favourite with very low returns. Sheren says she is not aware of this, but she will go in without any expectations. As for Charmaine, she says she does not know and goes on to point out that she does not condone gambling. She laughs: "There will not be much return if I win!" With Sheren taking the top spot for the award, Charmaine says: "I will tell more of my fans to vote for me!"

Talking of the anniversary "War and Beauty" comedy special, Gigi says that the most classic scene for her was Yuk Ying stripping down to her camisole, so she thinks that Lydia Shum should re-enact this particular scene, but she does not know if Lydia would accept it. As for Eric Tsang taking Sheren's role of Yu Fei, she says: "That's horrible, he'd make her look like a melon. (Do you mind?) I don't think he will be as scary as Bowie last time though. (What tips do you have for Eric?) He needs to wear six inch heels for it to work, then he will steal the show!"

As for earlier reports that Gigi has increased her fee for advertisements compared to Sheren's more reasonable rates, Gigi says that their work is very different and cannot be compared in this way.

Moses's relationship with Bernice Liu has always been somewhat unclear and recent reports have suggested the couple were forcefully split up by TVB boss Catherine Tsang and with Bernice unable to win over Moses, turning back to her old flame Hawick Lau. In response to these rumours, Moses wears a relaxed attitude as he says: "From the start I have only treated her (Bernice) like a colleague and these are all rumours that have been passed around, so I don't want to talk too much about it. As for Catherine splitting us up, of course not! As a reader, then I think that this would be more entertaining for the story, but it did not happen in real life."

Moses also adds that when he sees Bernice, they will only talk about work and as they both have the same manager, then they do not feel embarrassed and if there is work for them both to do together, they will still do it. Moses indicates that Catherine does look after him, but does not intrude in his love life. When asked if Bernice had been sending him text messages, Moses says she has not and they only chat when they see each other.

The 3000 sets limited edition "War and Beauty" DVD's were sold out within two days of their release and in some areas the price was pushed up from the original $588 to as high as $1688 and so the distributors wrote to TVB yesterday requesting that a second batch should be brought out.

TVBI held emergency talks about the matter yesterday, but to avoid the original meaning behind the issue being lost, they have agreed to issue another 2000 copies of the DVD set and the publishers are currently working flat out to have these ready for sale by the end of the week. TVB External Affairs Assistant Director Mr Tsang Sing Ming indicated: "After the meeting, we have decided to produce another 2000 sets to be sold at the same price and with identical contents. As this was always meant to be a limited edition, then we don't want to produce too many, otherwise it will lose its meaning. The new batch should be ready in the next two weeks or so."

Oriental Daily & The Sun 12/11/04]

New generation 'Housewife Killer' Moses Chan was filming yesterday with Niki Chow for new series "Scholar meets Soldier" yesterday in Yuen Long in a scene where Moses, who is an official is hung from a crucifix by some robbers, but he is rescued by female constable Niki. During filming, Niki was hoisted into mid-air by the wires and needed to borrow Moses's shoulders for support as she dangled above his head. Being stood on in front of everyone, Moses seemed a little embarrassed and daren't look up as she hovered overhead. His fans will be very upset when they see this!

When asked how he felt about being 'stepped on' by a woman, Moses says he does not mind and adds: "It doesn't matter, it's all filming, but it has been hard out in the sunshine all day today." At this point, he changed the subject and revealed that he was actually quite relaxed in this show because apart from yesterday's scene, there were very few action scenes for him. He also says that he will be performing in two items for the anniversary show, but he has not had time to rehearse for either yet, so he is quite worried about this. He has been so busy that he did not even know that his partner for the 'Clog Dance' Gigi Lai has injured her ankle, but he is not worried that this will affect the performance because everything usually turns out just fine.

As for the heroine Niki, she was very confident, but was worried about taking a wrong step. She says: "I wasn't embarrassed about being above Moses, I was more worried about standing on him. In this show, I am responsible for all the wire work, all the fighting, so I have done it all! (So you can become an action star?) Not quite, I am not experienced enough yet, I have to train for a little longer first." Luckily Niki has a Chinese Dance background and so was not put off by all the fighting scenes in the show.
