Haha... yeah I noticed that. But after some times, Ah Kung's look actually grows on me that I have come to appreciate his look now.

I guess that's the devious purpose of Ah gong's self-assigned 'basher', 采苕 to devise this reverse pyschology to garner sympathy and have people getting use to his looks.

Any new information about the series and Steven's character?

No, I haven't seen it. LOL, so funny. The three era seen by the fat boy and 'his comment' is cute. It isn't the kid's real comment right? The creator made a good sarcastic joke at the Catherine Tsang's period and Virginia Lok's period. And the last pic made a perfect fitly closure to the story of course.

All improvised by the thread starter. Don't you recognized that fat boy? He's dai lou yeh's nephew. He's good friend with Steven. Whenever Steven and him happened to be in the tvb city filming, Steven would always look him up. He (boy) wrote about their meeting in his own blog and uploaded those photos. His very one Ma zai goh goh!

QUOTE
tamaya, thanks for the gameshow pic. Is it forbidden to appear bald in public or onscreen in HK? I actually prefer him bald than using that headwear, but then it's probably too cold.

I'm sure it is not forbidden to appear bald in the public just look awkward. Steven once said that it was rude to 'shove' his bald pate onto people's face because bald/guang implies empty or impoverish? or something like that but he said during CNY, so don't know if it only applies during CNY or not.

I think for my case, it's not really the reverse psychology working but because he looks very manly and unique with his bad boy look. I think the facial expression helps a lot in elevating the look of the hairstyle. Given another type of hairstyle, Ah Kung probably comes off as charming, or maybe more.

I read this one already. I surely hope the story doesn't go like that. Besides, didn't Pu Songling have a grandson? I think I read that from some website saying how his grandson is the one that published his work. How come he can stay bachelor for his whole life?

Now that I think of it, since the series is supposed to be mystical, Linda's character can even resurrect again or reincarnates to end up with Pu Songling. Such a scary thought... cheesy, lame, and simply dreadful for me.

Thanks for the download link. Steven's reaction when the interviewer asked that is very funny and adorable. Too bad it didn't tell much about the storyline of the series.

I recognised the boy, but from Father and Sons and not from TGC2. Somehow couldn't remember much of him in TGC2. I do know that the boy likes to write about his meeting with various artistes he met in TVB. He also wrote one with Tavia during the filming of FAS. He is very cute for putting his encounters with them up on his blog.

hello everyone,

its really great to read all your witty and lively exchanges on this thread, hey its really moving along very fast now, quite a crowded room clapping.gif
i dont post often, but really enjoy reading all your posts, and especially loved Tamaya's Sinai from Hell poster -- very very creative and powerful!! LOL

i'm just wondering - i've noticed this for sometime, and wonder if anyone else does - that Steven has at one point started shaving off the 2 corners of his hair at his temples - in his earlier series, even until On the Track and Off, the edges of his hairline used to reach very very near to the end of his brows, from the Baidu Steven Ma pageant modern series looks, you can see from his Chu Zai character onwards, the hairline has been pushed away from his brows... you can see this clearly if you compare his photo from BOL and the topmost picture of his first modern character from the Baidu pageant. Do you see what i mean?? dry.gif

i have often wondered why he did this? I think it must be that he prefers to have the look of a wider forehead, although those 2 sharp corners of his hairline was one of the first things that I noticed about him when i saw him in On the Trach and Off, and loved it - i thought it was really unique!! I read that in face reading, men with hairline close to the end of the brows may end up dominated by their female partners... but dont think he would be worried about that whistle.gif

I know some people regard it as provocative, although I don't understand why, since people can have long hair, dyed hair, why not bald? Heh... those auspicious sign confused me sometimes, can't they regard "guang/gwong" as light as in brightness is good? But I guess it's not really comfortable sometimes to feel very cold up there, but must be very comfortable during sleep, that is, if he gets enough time to sleep. Any information on what Steven's next project is going to be after Pu Songling?

Now that you pointed it out, I see it. You are very detailed. I guess I was more into his facial expression than his hair. As to the reason why this is so, I have no idea why, but maybe it is done by the hairstylist to suit the hairstyle he is cutting for the recent series. Or that part of hair doesn't grow back again after he shaved his head too much? Hope it's the former. But now that you mentioned it, I actually like that part shaved to make an illusion of a bigger forehead, although I have no problem with how he looks with the two sides closer to his brows.

Yeah, I notice that he likes to do the v sign. It's okay that he only has these few poses when he takes pictures, as long as he doesn't only have a few facial expressions in his series.

Yeah, tamaya, I'm here, but just to let you know, I can't download the rayfile clips from TVB8 and this recent gameshow interview, because they don't have the second link which is the direct link to the clip in the rayfile website.

My goodness! I can barely keep up with the fast-paced messages here. Not that I'm complaining!! I just wish I had more time to look carefully at everything. Checking out the pageant photos now... (so backdated!)

I know this is old news now, but just a comment about the blog ratings that TVB seems to love so much. These sort of online polls are extremely unreliable, in the sense that it can be manipulated by those who have a bit of tech savviness. Scripts can be written to automatically vote hundreds or thousands of times with a click of a button. I don't believe that TVB is not aware of the various cheating methods out there. I personally think that it's just another way for them to justify their favouritism with their "it" actors. Who knows, they may even be the ones manipulating the ratings, and not necessarily just the fans.

That he will portray Pu's whole life - from a young man to an old man. A challenging role for him.

Hello everyone, i am so happy to be back after the weekend and look at this thread, it's moving extremely fast! And to all Steven fans here, you guys are fantastic. You can noticed Steven's hair, whether he's slouching or not, wow just amazing!

Hi insanity1903,

There was this ongoing thread on baidu steven entitled: 'My mom loves Steven Ma.' And that thread has gotten quite long with similar announcements like: my mom too. She always asks if Xiao Xuan Zi's actor will be onscreen soon. Or go borrow that xiao xuan zi's other videos etc etc. lol!

That thatch of hair is gone now!

Hi strawberry, we fans notice every thing about him. haha! Did you notice if Steven wore his jeans he would always hang this chain on his right side hip? Obviously he not only has limited poses but always a limited wardrobe, but he has lots of facial expressions!

I just discovered that Steven is on facebook. If you're also on FB and want to be a fan, do so! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Steven-Ma-/28358472088

[Update: Taking a closer look at the FB account... it looks kind of like it might have been started up by a fan. There only seems to be fans' photos up there.]

Kwong Ying Lau Cheng is something like a documentary that talks about the old Hong Kong, from places to everything. You can watch it on youtube which Tamaya has already posted here but it has no ending. Yes i know Steven is on FB but i doubt it's really him. Like you said it must have been started up by a fan.

Did the news first come out as a villain role? But it turned out to be a perv. Well, that's really different from what was expected. But I believe it will be a breakthrough for Steven to try out a very different role of a perv. It will extend the show of his acting versatility. Moreover, Ah Kung may not necessarily ruin Steven's gentleman image, maybe he will come off cute, like Tavia in DB, a bimbo who tries to hook onto rich men. Yeah, not all people can accept her change of image there but majority likes it. I think HK people will be able to relate to a character like Ah Kung, hehe... not saying they are perv but they must have known some perv around them. Besides, HK people like surprises, so maybe they will like this surprise that Steven gives them.

As for a true smart cool villain role that we are all looking forward from him, I guess we still have to wait more.

QUOTE

Whatever will happen if this character turned out to be more 'perv' than Ah Kung in audience's eyes, liking two women at the same time any chance? If it really is the case that he will like both women, I guess it will be a challenging role for him to make it likable. And I'm a bit worried about him portraying the old Pu because he doesn't seem old. It will be very weird to see them putting make up and wig to try to make him look older as in BH, COD, and TGC2.

tamaya, thanks for the clip (from PM). I'm downloading it now but estimated time left is still 25 minutes as of now.

Strawberry67, about that chain on his side hip, I recall this article writing about the making of his ICU mv. Well, reportedly while doing that mv, he had on that chain too and somehow that chain got caught in the bench and wouldn't come off. So the crew had to stop the recording and help him untangled himself from the bench, with some effort, reportedly. Of course, a reporting crew had to be there to witness how Steven got chained down to a bench. lol!

One of the download links posted in the spoiler, which you couldn't download. Will pm you with the video.
The reporter brought up the fact that Steven is once again paired with Linda. Obviously the two know each other well, but Steven, without been asked, also brought up 2 other fadan that he also thinks highly of: Ah Yi, (Steven always refers to Tavia as Ah Yi, never Yeung Yi ) and Fala. He praises all three of them. Tavia's name came out of nowhere.

So nice of him to bring up her name even though she wasn't in the series. Steven often addressed Tavia as Ah Yi (as she is often called by her friends), but I remember there is this one time where he addressed her as Yeung Yi. It was when Cha Siu Yan asked him about who is his co-star in SITS that is often late that complained he is like Ah Jie, and he immediately defended Tavia first by saying "Yeung Yi" is very good.

I think Fala has a talent for acting. She is already quite decent in her first series and of course she continues to improve. I shall refrain from commenting about Linda here.

I see. Now wonder till now he still hang the chain in his jeans (i always feel this is very 80s style). I notice Steven likes jeans with white or black tops, casual and yet stylo!
Akazukin
Why has Sunny not shaved his head yet? I hardly see him in Ching costume, but when he was in Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain, he didn't shave his head right?

Anyway, Steven's TVB blog clip has quite a lot of information on what Steven's character is going to be. He will appear playful and not serious, and have good communication with animals, but actually deep inside, he hates the corrupted officials and due to this, will have conflicts with his father. Then he will left his home and starting from here onwards, I expect that the road will be tough for him and he will be more melancholic. Sounds like a lot of character development there for him.

But,

1) in the people interview with Anna - he said he has higher tolerance for stupid people than lazy people, doesn't mean that he prefers stupid people.

2) one of the perfect's wife attributes - he said 'you' would want to marry a stupid wife, seems like he is saying that on behalf of the general men, not necessarily his own standard. But didn't he deny that such attribute is a good girlfriend? If someone doesn't become a girlfriend, how can that person become a wife?

Okay, so maybe Steven really didn't put a square box criteria on his type, which is the correct way to approach relationship, since criteria hardly works in real life too. I do remember he said if he loves the girl, let alone her be stupid or lazy, he will still love her even if she is a pig. But the thing is, a particular person usually will be attracted to certain type of people with similar traits right? No? If yes, I wonder what kind of traits do he usually fall for, has he written anything about this?

Steven also said this:
S: Yes. Nowadays, women are very capable, very smart and financially independent. That doesn’t mean I feel inferior, but that when a person is overly smart, it can sometimes create a barrier, inadvertently erecting an extra barrier to a relationship’s communication.

How would you interpret that line? I love him dearly but he is a chauvinistic chew chow man true and true. I remember praising my uncle to my aunt that he is such a good husband, she quipped, "yeah, but you don't live with him." lol! I remember that always.

Steven says the most important criterion in a gf will be the meeting of his and her minds. Communication is the key! To him beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.

Well, my uncle is a very traditional chew chow man too (fixing his own household items and all), but his wife is very smart and he is very proud of it.

The way I interpret that line is he doesn't like someone who is too smart. I don't really understand what he means by when a person is overly smart, it can create barrier. I hope by "overly smart", he doesn't mean "smart" but "being smarter than him", so in that case, he is the 'stupid' one. I feel the same level of intelligence is the best when it comes to communication. If she is stupid, how can he meet his mind? Unless he is up to manipulating his wife, which isn't fun at all when you have to spend the days like that with the rest of your life. But then again, I know some guys who like stupid girlfriends because it makes them feel strong to be able to always protect them. But then, I always think, wouldn't it make them stronger to be able to protect someone who is already strong (which is why I admire Moses' character in BH)? Too bad not many people think the same.

If he likes a stupid woman as his wife, wouldn't that mean Yumiko's character in TGC2 will be perfect? But somehow I feel more romance between him and Wayne, because they are at the same level of intelligence, or Wayne maybe at a little bit higher. Didn't see they have extra barrier in communicating because of so.

I think he likes girl who is more straightforward in speaking their thoughts so he doesn't have to guess. Didn't he praise Maggie Cheung on this before?

Steven maybe a good husband material, but I always think he is an even better big brother material, don't you think? That's probably why he collects so many little sisters.

You're making ditsy with you going around what ifs and maybe. lol! Which reminds me Steven wrote an essay on what ifs in his book. sounding just like you. haha

Steven fans are really mad at the ghostwriter because he/she mis-wrote Ling of Pu song ling in Steven TVBblog. 蒲松 should be 蒲松.

A fan posted this msg in his tvbblog:

But this is a serious problem.. there's only 3 words and a renowned historical author's name at that. And that this employee even got it wrong. If there were multiple words, then the error can be overlooked. ... the first thing staring at you from the blog are those erroneous words. Mazai, a lover of words, would be mortified to see that on his blog.

And after that whole "what if" and "maybe", actually my conclusion is as simple as "two people of the same level of intelligence is the best when it comes to communication", that means the woman cannot be much smarter than him, but she also shouldn't be much more stupid than him.

To be honest, I don't 'like' men who prefers stupid girlfriend/wife because they are easier to be manipulated. It doesn't make them look strong to me. So if (here I come with 'what if' again) Steven is such a man, too bad, I accept everyone has his own flaws. But I still admire his acting skill, and singing, and some other traits.

But after all those "what if", I wonder has he never been asked about his type of girl in his interviews like most people have been asked about that? Just to have a straightforward answer without "what if".

As cheapskate as TVB is, they probably hire a low-paid employee and overwork them with overlong hours, hence the spelling mistake. But hey, at least we get to see a clip with Steven himself talking about what his character going to be like right?

I don't think Steven will go for a stupid gf or wife. He will look for someone like you say of "the same level of intelligence is the best when it comes to communication".

Besides his chat with Cha Siu Yan on girlfriend about helping each other with their aspirations, and being soulmates;
he had this to say about his requirement in girlfriend in Anna's people talk show

The 2nd later half of the news article
Steven experiencing the full flavor of life
He entered the entertainment world as a singer therefore, of course, possesses a good voice. Because he had the singing skill, in the past, Mazai always meticulously sang every note just right (mun mun yuan yuan). His friends listening to his singing would tease him and call his singing “very tight”. Now that he is more relaxed, Mazai realizes belatedly their ‘tight’ actually implies “not good enough”. These days wherever he had the opportunity to karaoke with friends, he would select some oldies to sing along, putting in as much feeling as he could into his singing. Sing with feelings, only then can one be considered a good singer. Recently, listened to him sing ‘The turns of fortune’ 《轮流转》once again. He truly sang it with a feel of having experienced life vicissitudes; a maturity ripened by adversities; mesmerizing, lingering. When the music stopped, friends all around unexpectedly applauded, and whistled…

“Wah! You guys are even more fans than my fans, more enthusiastic.” Mazai laughed happily. He was happy because he to sing out the flavor of this song is truly not easy. A few years ago, he and a group of veteran friends went to karaoke; he sang 《轮流转》。He grasped the mike and proceeded to sing. His vocal was considerably good but a sincere friend told him a home-truth; heavy words but genuine from a sincere heart. “To really sing this song well, you still need to gain more life experiences; to evoke the true essence of this song is not that easy.”

Mazai stored the words in the back of his mind. He looked upon that as his goal to advance to. And today, the song’s essence was evoked by his singing; he had indeed mature. Truth be told, without having experienced life’s vicissitudes, human minds will not open up; once open, only then can they experience and absorb the full flavor of life.

35 years old already; October 26, met up with Mazai on his birthday, and talked about his birthday wishes. He solemnly said: “35 already, so fast. Feel like there’re still a lot of things I haven’t done. But anyway, what is most important to me is health. With good health and spirit, only will there be vigor.” Saying himself ‘dai gor zai’, Mazai said these days he only wishes to make more and better quality shows, and that his life goals and objectives will be of longer term.

“Will not just focus only on one aspect, but rather on a whole picture. I feel that I still have a long road to travel in my acting career. I hope to get awards because I hope to receive affirmation and encouragement. But more so, I am truly enjoying my work more now. The work is arduous; wearing hairpiece, lack of sleep, but every time when I view the product of my hard work, I had this sense of contentment; my hard work has value.”

Mazai is considered the most suitable actor to succeed Adam Cheng in ancient dramas. “I truly don’t mind acting in more ancient dramas at all because I enjoy being an ancient period character. I feel that I was born into the wrong era. I enjoy portraying historical figures. Every time I don the ancient costumes, it’s like I’ve entered a time tunnel where imagination can soar and be infinite. I wish to portray a character in the early republican era in China. And also as Zhuge Liang, and Lun Xun also. I really want to portray them.”

Before signing up with tvb, Mazai acted in a mainland China tv series 《昭君出塞》 as a cameo character. Nevertheless when the series was aired in cctv, his character, 王莽, left a deep impression on the viewers. During the production, Mazai got on well with the director.

“Things can be accomplished one at a time, no hurry. TVB and I still have a contract. During these next few years, I’ll focus all my energy in doing my series well. Since I’ve already decided on a long artistic road, if I concentrate on advancing towards the target, I’ve no need to worry about other things.”

Don’t be afraid of uncharted waters. Be self-confident and don’t be flustered. These days, Ma Chai has grown up, not only possesses a big brother’s demeanor "阿哥", but also 洋溢于眉宇间. (wth was that? Furrowed brows?) Self-confidence is the best cosmetic; knowledge provides the best skin care regiment. This is a truism. Physical appearance will age in time, but humans can preserve everlasting perfection not through exterior appearance, but rather through possessing a clean spirit, and the continuous enlightenment of the mind. Be content, so will not be enticed by fame and fortune; be diligent for knowledge, so as to achieve lofty integrity. And these are what Mazai most wanted to pursue.

“Luck is already at your side! Mazai!”

Here is my attempt, tried to stay close to his original word but it may sound choppy in English (should we prioritise good english or close to original?) and there are simply words that can't be translated into English. I like your translation for this, better than mine, just that some have been left out because you were paraphrasing some. By the way, what is 跳脱 in his context?

A: Then actually Steven Ma, what are your own criteria for a girlfriend? What kind of person?

S: I think before I would have set criteria, especially when I first entered the showbiz, I was often asked about my criteria for a girlfriend. I have said before, it would be best if she has a long hair, of Chinese ethnic, gentle etc, I have said a lot. But now I won’t. Now I feel there is no, no certain image, meeting someone who clicks is the key. That is, we both have that feelings when we meet each other, we have that destiny. I no longer believe in appearance, the prettiest can be the most not beautiful. I now will most believe that a pretty appearance is of no use, this one people said it is the same for both male and female, maybe it is so. But I feel, if a girl is very pretty, her being pretty and not pretty is not relevant when it comes to loving and having romance with her. I think the most important thing is to be able to communicate. Both parties originally have the same consensus even when we are at different places, both can web each other, and even able to see through each other’s mind, there is the kind that with one eye, we can see through each other~

A: If she is stupid, then won’t she be able to? Won’t she be able to meet your mind? (claps to Anna for this too, LOL)

S: This, this, (laugh) stupid~~, I don’t know what is called stupid. Anyway, I feel the things inside wins over your face. A pretty girl can be very not beautiful. I myself gradually mature. I feel the movie that I have watched, the books that I have read etc, show that a pretty girl is the one that possibly hurt you the most, so~~

A: You are afraid that she will play around outside?

S: There are a lot of reasons. If a girl is too pretty, to be honest, I will actually feel that we may not communicate very well.

A: Is the communication not good or you don’t feel secure?

S: Both. But I really like the more ordinary one, I really ~~. Ten years later when I look back to today, I don’t know, maybe I will say I like the type that is easy to escape from (?? What does he mean by 好跳脱?) , I like the prettier one, maybe at that time, I will, but I think I won’t. Up til now I have lived for so many years, I think I like the more ordinary one, so I don’t like those who put on heavy make-ups, I don’t need her to be too eye-catching. Simple and more real, I still feel a girl who is more real is enough, don’t need to be too pretty.

A: I agree too, but do you feel “real” is difficult to find?

S: Difficult, difficult.

A: Where is it difficult? Is it difficult due to your time, that actually you cannot come to understand them, or the girls nowadays often wear masks when they go out?

I guess so. It isn't proper for him to say anything less good about "stupid" people too, as he is a public figure. Him dismissing it by saying he doesn't know the definition to stupid is a nice one.

Today went passed Mongkok fire department on my way to a colleague's place for hotpot. Unexpectedly happened upon Steven Ma shooting a scene there! But when I got there, it was wrapping up already. Saw Steven doing a scene with an actress. An arguing scene... and then, that's it, done.. Later, a female voice yelled out from inside a building: "Mazai, ni hou leng zai ya!" (you're very good looking!) At that moment, Steven was at break, eating. When he heard that, he almost spurted out his food from his mouth, hilarious. Meanwhile I waited nearby for my colleague to pick me up. And the people was packing up. Steven even walked by me several times. Truly, the real life person is more leng (good looking) than onscreen. That skin of him is so leng (good) So envious!! And I thought to myself how often does he do masks weekly to maintain it. Later, colleague told me that Yeung Yi was there too, pity I did not get to see her.

poster response:
唉 ai,(sigh) That a man's skin can be that good..conversely, look at us women...can it be that actually men are made of water instead. (of women)
blogger: I'm just truly envious of his skin.

From New Zealand 2008 April 19 when he, and Sonija and Vivian yeo (?) went there as guest stars for a NZ Chinese singing contest last year.

an excerpt from http://user.qzone.qq.com/779495/blog/1208611228 photos posted in her blog.
Today, I finally got to see him in real life. He's very amiable, smiling the whole time. Greeting and chatting with all those who request his autographs. The two actresses were overshadowed by him. I guess that's the so-called charisma. had a good connection with the audience 非常的有观众缘. I observed that most people flocked to him. And all had much to say to him, even talking nonstop when the security hurried them away......(paraphrasing) And the next day, the guests got to perform on stage. When singing his last song, Steven walked down the stage to the floor, singing, and shaking hands with the audience. I finally got to see first hand what I often see on tv - the scene of audience vying to shake hands with celebrities; furthermore, I personally experienced it for I too wrangled to be the first and fear to lag behind. 争先恐后 hehe!

You're welcome. As for translation, I think I have enough dose today, working at two different threads (news are flocking at Tavia's side due to Next Awards and Century event), my mind isn't working quite well now. Besides, I think your translation is much better than mine. But I will definitely be glad to translate more once I have the time, if you want an assistance with it (since you have been so dearly to translate so many articles for us). I assume this is during the filming of Stars of Love? I can't stop laughing when I read about the moment Steven spurted out his food from his mouth when he heard someone shouting about how handsome he is... sounds totally like a scene from a comedy series, but that kinda shows how humble he is.

When re-reading its transcript, I had this feeling that Anna was being a bit too 'familiar' rather than professional with Steven, like she double talked in her questions and double meaning in her responses.

Like the beginning when she sort of complains (almost like a gf)
丘:Hello! You're difficult to get hold of 你好难约哦!
马:Not really, ok 不是啊,OK的

What do you think of Anna's response? Double talk between them? And she kept referring to their 1st time collaboration in the Macao filmology. paraphrasing:
马:不是,我有什么事,火爆完,表达完我要表达的事,我就会转身走,我不会继续留在那个环境里。如果事后觉得自己语气是重了的,现在方便了,可以send短信,我可能会send短信给朋友,sorry,我语气重了~~
If I was in the wrong, I would text them to say sorry..

丘:你都不复的,讲什么呀,讲短信,别提了,真是的。
You don't even respond. Don't even mention, really.
马:(轻笑)其实短信,有时短信次次都复就不好玩了。短信的特色就是send过去了,收到了,我已经假设你收到了~~

丘:是,你骂完别人,觉得不好意思,跟着也不理别人的回复~~
You scolded somebody, felt bad. then ignore people's response

马:你不用回复我,我估计你收到了,你不收就算了,要不怎么样?
you don't have to reply me. I figure you've received it. If you don't accept my apologies, then what else can I do?

Oh, Tavia must have done well in Next awards then?

About Anna, I don't know how she is as an interviewer usually since I have never listened or read her interview with another artiste yet. So I don't know whether it's her style or she is being too comfortable with Steven that her interview sometimes sounds too personal, as in there is no introduction, no background of what happened and we are thrown to the discussion. I feel this creates a barrier to the audiences (at least me) because we feel like we are the outsiders overhearing a conversation between two people (you know, it feels like those times when two of your friends talk about another person that you know nothing of and they don't bother to fill you up with the information of whom this person is).

I personally prefer Cha Siu Yan's interview because it sounds more like an interview, you know, asking questions, digging more, letting him speak for most of the time with occassional witty comments, while Anna's sounds like she is trying to get Steven say something she wants to hear or even like I said, sound like a conversation of two friends discussing issues rather than an interview. While Cha Siu Yan put the spotlight entirely on the interviewee, I feel like Anna puts too much of her own opinions to the interview. Her questions are sometimes even addressed like a prosecutor asking the defense side's witness rather than an interview of biography nature.

In shorter words, I feel that in Cha Siu Yan's interview, she is asking questions so Steven can talk to us. while Anna's interview is more like a conversation between her and Steven which we overheard. But maybe, it's her style, I don't know.

I have no problem with this short entrance complaint though. To me, it just sounds like she is trying to say that Steven is a very busy man (and since he is busy, that means he is doing well in his career).

Wow! that's exactly how I felt but couldn't quite pinpoint what while listening to them chat; very long chat! I did mention that the interview was more like an a conversation between them rather than an interview. And Anna did interject a lot of personal opinion into the dialogue. Maybe that's why I had this feeling of being an interloper listening in to a double talk. I guess the time is a factor too -2 hours long. Many times she did put Steven on the spot - very uncomfortable spot. Well, I did get to know Steven better --- that he is very articulate, very quick with his response, very secure in himself, very opinionated, and definite very poise and unflappable especially in deflecting somewhat barbed questions of hers with levity.

The only Anna's interview I heard is the one I posted here, and that's less than an hour.

Yeah, what strawberry67 says, and recalling this article:

I don't bite post 446
Heavy Eye Bags Ridiculed, Unhappy
Steven grew up amidst negative publicity. When he first started in the industry, his then record company used this slogan, “He’s not Hok Yau; he’s not Lai Ming” to promote him. For that, he suffered the ire of Leon’s fans.

“The bags under my eyes are naturally obvious. During one photo shoot, under the bright lightings, the bags were extremely conspicuous. At that time, because I was still being promoted as “Lai Ming” look-alike, plus the reporter didn’t like me; so beneath the photo, he wrote this caption: “Even with such a light workload right now, Ma Chun Wai’s dark eye circles are already so obvious, what if his workload were to increase in the future, how could he show his face to the public?” I was unhappy to read that.

Obviously, Steven has no illusions about his appearance.

Well, I did get to know Steven better --- that he is very articulate, very quick with his response, very secure in himself, very opinionated, and definite very poise and unflappable especially in deflecting somewhat barbed questions of hers with levity.

Indeed, I feel that he has answered her questions with professionalism, really know how to put himself as an artiste.

QUOTE
He must have slept on board while flying to NZ that's why no dark circle. But if you look at the video before the calender photo session, you will see the tired Mazai. Very "sum tung" (heartache) looking at him with two eyebags.

Yeah, I remember this article, but he has no dark circle in that pic, and when girls can conceal it with concealer or whatever, guys usually don't put make up right? Even if he has dark circles from lack of sleep, it's normal, almost everyone does right? But how can he make it go so quickly? How long does it take from HK to NZ? 15 hours? Sleeping on board for 15 hours worked? Mine will not go that easily.

Anyway, TVB does overwork their artistes too much. Sometimes it is disheartening to see how much they are rushed to film, only to have their series warehoused to an undetermined date. But while the artistes are overworked, I believe the crews are too.

I think charisma wins over a pretty face though, and while the latter lies in the eyes of the beholder, Steven certainly possessed the former.

Wow! you read that article? Way before my time! eta: the actual report dissing his eye bags? Don't know about others, (hint: Prince, Michael Jackson) but I don't think Steven wears make up in real life. lol! But check out this prima donna

No, I read your translation of that article, pages ago, when you were quoting about the hardship Steven went through in the beginning of his journey in the entertainment world.

LOL, I like that gif, it's normal for actors to wear make up when they are going to be onscreen, but they don't wear it to autograph sessions, do they?

From the gif, I believe Steven has better skill of applying powder than me.

Don't think so, that would have been commented on if they did. I'm sure Steven has better skill of applying powder than me, too.

Btw, apparently Fala, Sunny and Linda have all updated their blogs (coincidentally at about the same time as Steven) with a video of themselves describing their roles in psl.
