Tamaya, hello to you too! Honestly, I have not watch Steven's "Gentle crackdown 2" yet. I bought the original DVD and was planning to start watching soon. But I don't like that Yumiko in that series. I love Steven...one of my favorite actors. He is such a great actor, and I like his songs too.

I am also from the States, the east coast! Which part of the States are you in, Tamaya? I have watched almost all of Steven's old and new series (except for GC 2). Yes, I love him in Steps (I think he danced pretty well) and Safeguards, and Perish in the name of love. I started to really "love" him about 4 years back.

Thanks for translating the autobiography of Steven here on this thread. I will get down to read it soon. Each time when I start to read it, I get interrupted on the computer....so annoying. Perhaps I should just print everything out and read during my free time.
tamaya
Hi Bishu, I absolutely enjoyed watching GC2. I thought it was a really fun series to watch. The series silliness and lightheartedness really brightened up my days. Imo, Yumiko's acting was commendable for a newcomer. It goes without saying I love Steven, too, as an actor and as a singer. He writes pretty well, too. Do make time to read his memoir - you'll get to know him better.

I love all his TV series except for In the realm of success -- couldn't even finish it. I didn't like the script. Which of his series made you love him?

I'm from the Midwest.

Steven Ma teaches the Director on how to Film

Yesterday there were reports of Steven Ma's arrogance, when filming the series besides requesting his co-stars to be punctual, but also says that when filming starts needs to be familiar with the script and also be serious about the acting, almost like teaching the director how to direct! Yesterday he accepted an interview, regarding the 'accusation' that he admitted!

As Steven Ma filming new ancient series "Salt Traders" he had so many requests, he earned the title "Male Version Ah Jie", yesterday he accepted a radio interview, he laughs at the reports: "I'm just speaking the truth. But usually I would be at the studio early and this is my principle, usually when we play it could very happy, but when its time to film - better not be playing. (Who would be playing?) Don't know, if I knew, I would say something. (Would that cause the other party to be unhappy?) I believe so."

Linda Chung denies being the Flu Spread source

Asked again if he's teaching the director how to direct, Steven admits: "Yes, actors and directors needs to have good communication, then we all will be happy. I occassionally lose my temper, but I'm mad at myself and has nothing to do with other people."

Yesterday Steven Ma and Linda Chung were promoting for new series "A Journey Called Life", but the other leading lady Fala Chan did not attend because she was sick, asked if Linda Chung, who had caught the flu, when filming for "Heart of Greed II" transmitted the germs to Fala Chen, she says: "No, when I was sick I didn't encounter Fala. 'Heart' going to release soon, that's why when filming its laborious, maybe this caused pressure for everyone. ('Heart' spreading the flu, are you the source of carrying the flu germs?) Of course not, I also was filming outdoor scenes and got it." For Steven Ma, he has a secret and that is to take 6 roots (?) and then boil them to drink.

Title: A 2006 Essay
Steven Blog update

Hi everybody! Haven’t been here for a long time.
How’s everybody? I’m fine, don’t worry!
Just wrapped up Salt Traders, will take a 2-week break this month.
First, to recharge myself; second, to reorganize and prepare my pictorial journal which I plan to publish this year. Right now I have about 40 articles done, would have to write some 20 odd more. I plan to get this done during my time-off. Hopefully, it will go smoothly!

While going through my papers, I came across my 2006 essay entitled, “4 Big Charges”.

Haha! Recently, didn’t the tabloids charge me with committing “5 Big Crimes”? So when I happened on my past essay, I couldn’t help but laugh aloud…!

I’m not going to explain or rebut in here; only that in my mirth, I thought of sharing this “4 Big Charges” essay with you all.

Four Big Charges? Written: 2006 -5 -18
Friends say my behavior is too overly calm and collected; sometimes coming across as aloofness. Friends say my lifestyle is too overly cautious; that this kind of lifestyle is way too monotonous. Friends say I’m too pragmatic in my approach to problems; that my words and deeds are incongruous to my age. Friends say my heart is too reserved; that I don’t ever share my innermost feelings. I accept each and every one of these opinions of me; but as to who’s right and who’s wrong, it’s all very subjective. With that in mind, let me then unreservedly reveal my innermost feelings here, so as to allay my friends’ incomprehension of me.

Say my behavior is too overly calm and collected. Why “overly”? What’s wrong with being calm and collected? As an adult, when confronting problems and feelings alike, all should be calmly analyzed and subsequently dealt with. To clearly analyze a situation, preconception and feelings must be put aside, as well as partiality and self-interest; only then can one see the whole picture of the situation. In the process, the demeanor might be detached, but if that is considered aloofness, then so be it.

Say I’m too overly cautious? I see that as being self-disciplined. Friends love to tease me; that my personality is suited to being military personnel or to a career in the field of discipline work. I concede I do have my own set of principles such as: never be late for anything, never drink and drive, never touch 黄, illicit drugs and gambling, never submit to extortion, respect Chinese traditional beliefs, and subscribe to Chinese learned scholars’ philosophies, etc. So long they don’t intrude on others, I will persist with my set of disciplines. I’m happy as I am! Where’s the monotonousness? If this is considered overly cautious, then let me be it!

Say I handle problems too pragmatically, this may be true. In high school, I worked as a store clerk after school for 3 years. After graduation, I worked in sales for three different companies, These 7 years of valued experience made me worldly and honed my people skill. Later, I was fortunate to enter the entertainment industry whose fickleness also hastened my maturity. Perhaps these life experiences have overly ‘matured’ me in addition to my passion for reading and words. Sometimes without meaning to, I might come across like a pompous senior citizen. 老气横秋 but I didn’t mean to lecture. Friends, if you were offended, please do forgive me!

Say my heart is too reserved, unwilling to open up; this is a misunderstanding. I’m a person who likes straight talks with friends. To engage in heart-to-heart chats with friends is very enjoyable, regardless of whether the topic is pleasant or unpleasant; if we could speak our minds freely then I'm more than contented. However, for a heart-to-heart chat to happen; the timing, the people, the place and the ambience must come together for it to work. To listen or to talk about innermost feelings, all parties must be willing to do so; if not, then it defeats the purpose. Furthermore, why spoil a mood with sad talks? 本来无伤感,何必道哀愁? When friends get together, it is not necessary to swap sad stories with teary eyes for it to be a heart-to-heart chat. Right?

Thanks for the update. Great, Salt Traders had completed filming. Wonder if it was delayed at all with Tavia's illness? Anyways I guess it will another few months for the editing. Any idea if they hinted when the show might be aired?

lol ... read about Steven's radio interview on how he gave directions to the Director on how to act and his behaviour of that of Ah Jie .... So what if one is professional and doesn't like others to be late? It's basic courtesy to be punctual ... and as for the reports on coaching the Director??? Media making up stories again ...

Hope he enjoys his rest period...

snatches
A: Would you sing your own songs? Or occasionally listen to them?
S: I’ll listen to them, but won’t sing them in karaoke.
A: You go to karaoke?
S: Yeah, why not?
A: Well, some people don’t like karaoke, at least, those who sing or are artistes.
S: Before I entered the industry, I often sang in piano/organ clubs.
A: That’s different. That’s singing live, no? Some people get nervous at seeing their own mv.
S: I’m nervous, too.
A: Then why go?

S: I won’t request my own songs. There was once I went with a group of friends to karaoke and reserved a room – can’t remember the occasion. There’re these two who disobeyed me and went behind my back to request 4 or 5 of my songs. And there I was, having a good time, drinking, when suddenly....I rushed to stop it, cut!… But still, he put in another request. I told him, if you keep doing that I’ll leave.

A: It’s just for fun ma… why so fierce? You’re bad! (laugh)

S: Yeah, that’s what my friend said. Do you have to be so fierce? I’ve already told you not to request my songs. Because at that moment, I didn’t want to be reminded of my identity or to have any contact with work. Because after work, during my freetime, I prefer not to talk shop. I don’t like talking about myself. Like, so what film are you making now? So on and so forth. Even at old friends’ gatherings, I'm very clear on that I’ll brook no entertainment related questions. If you are my friends, don’t discuss my series, don’t ask if she’s pretty or not, or if she a good person. Etc… If you insist on asking me this kind of questions, I’ll leave immediately. I don’t relish chatting about these things after work.

A: Neither do I.

Exclusive Report: 马浚伟不惧做“男版汪阿姐”
2008-03-30 14:45:53

~~Steven Ma is not afraid to be the male version Wang Ah Jie.
Meddling in the director’s filming? Reproving others’ tardiness? Behaving like a prima donna?
This is an exclusive interview with Steven Ma on his response to these criticisms.

TVB new series, “A Journey called life” will premier on TV next week. Last night, the vacationing abroad male lead, Steven Ma, accepted an exclusive tele-interview with Yangcheng Evening News,《羊城晚报》which lasted about an hour. Besides talking about his upcoming series, Steven talked mostly about his outlook on life and philosophy; about the works of the late scholar author, Tang Jun Yi (唐君毅 ); about the impact of his mother’s death on himself; and about juvenile suicides, etc. Steven said: Treasuring life and treasuring time are some of his values. Hence, he cannot tolerate tardiness during work.

~~Topic: Teacher
~~Major benefit was knowing Kent Tong
In the “Journey” series, Steven is an enthusiastic marathon runner. He started off as an engraving apprentice in Kent’s stone workshop to later become an engraving master. A misunderstanding acquainted him and rebellious Linda, later resulting in a love relationship between them.

Steven disclosed that the marathon scenes were exhausting to film, and due to his heart’s condition he requested the producer and director to fake most of the running scenes. His biggest reap from filming “Journey” was getting acquainted with Kent. “On the first day of work, Kent told me that he studied my previous performance. His knowledge on me was astounding, given that he is a veteran. He told me since he knew he was going to collaborate with me, he should get to know me beforehand. He also told me to treat him as a new colleague since he was away from TVB for so long. I have learned much from Kent. He is my teacher, both in the series and out.”

~~Topic: Reading
~~The Impact of Tang Jun Yi’s Works
Steven is a voracious reader, especially of books on history and philosophy. “Reading history books is extremely beneficial to filming ancient period dramas; it instills a better understanding of the drama background and characters. His main interests are the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China (1912-1949). His most admired philosopher is the late Mr. Tang Jun Yi.

Mr. Tang Jun Yi was one of the renowned modern contemporary scholar authors, and a prolific one, at that. Steven disclosed that the most influential book on him is Life’s Experiences (?)《人生之体验》. “In 1999, my mother died of cancer. I sank into a deep depression, and had lost interest in life. During this period, I happened to read 《人生之体验》. There was one particular line of thoughts that is still unforgettable to me; to date, it can be said to be my biggest epiphany." To avoid misquoting, from the other end of the telephone, Steven picked up that particular book and proceeded to read aloud word by word to this reporter, “ The pains over the death of a loved one is something that you can never compensate. There’s no philosophy that can comfort you, nor is there any need to look to philosophy for comfort. This is the period when your own morals will emerge. Hereafter, you will learn to treasure your surviving loved ones with a greater display of love. Hereafter, you will take life with greater responsibility.”

Thereafter, Steven searched and read all of Tang Jun Yi’s works: “Although, we are of different generations, through his books, I can connect with this esteemed scholar’s thoughts.” Steven’s life motto is, “Treasure life, treasure time.”

~~Topic: Punctuality
~~Intolerant of tardiness habit
It is exactly because he values time that Steven cannot stand tardiness during work, which resulted in the reported rumor. A Hong Kong magazine recently censored Steven for acting prima donna on set, and for telling off others. Steven’s response: “I didn’t get angry when I read this article because if read closely, the article actually complimented me. Said I interfered with the director’s filming - actually we were just discussing about the best angles to shoot; our exchange was extremely cordial. Said I reproved others for fooling around during work; said I purposely arrived early at work by 15 minutes; that I checked daily to see who’s late … Aren't all these praising my serious work attitude?

Steven insisted he has never acted prima donna but that he cannot tolerate the tardiness habit of others. “A film production is a team work. I don’t want anybody’s behavior to affect other people’s time.” At the end of a film production, TVB will always post an award roster to commend the thespians with the best work ethics; Steven always gets on the roster. Some people accused Steven of being the male version of Diva Wang (男版汪阿姐) . But Steven considers the very professional Liza Wang to be his role model. “People should respect their work; else, they are insulting themselves.”

~~Topic: Book Publication
~~Pictorial Journal slated for July
This year, Steven plans to publish a book and to direct a show; with the former almost in the bag; a pictorial journal work-in-progress is scheduled for a July publication, as for the latter, it’s still up in the air.

Actually, Steven owns a publication company; and has published several books: Steven’s
Tales of Society book series 1, 2, 3) and a column serial (Women in the eyes of Ma Zai). The society book series showcased real life case stories in hopes of enlightening the readers. The first book is on suicides and the value of life. The second book is on the hardships faced by the terminal ill patients and their respective families. Because my mom was a cancer victim for many years, I can really relate to these relationships and the family members’ feelings.

When it came to talking about his books, Steven was effusively forthcoming. But right now, closest to his heart is his upcoming pictorial journal. “The journal will have about 10 essays that I penned, matched with photos that I took. I’ll personally take care of the whole package. It’s my “baby”. The journal will reflect my outlook on life and my thoughts on the world.”

Photography is Steven’s hobby. During his free time, he will take out his camera and go photo shooting. His interest first started with print photography, which then slowly evolves into the idea of directing. “This (directing) will be in my future aspiration. But right now, I’m still in the learning stage. ‘偷师’”. No wonder on set, he enjoys talking shop with the director(s).

p/s A Steven's fan puzzling over Steven taking the 人生之体验 book with him on vacation decided to call up the responsible reporter about the date of Steven's interview -- turn out that the interview was done way back but was held back until now. It struck me odd too that Steven had the book close at hand for reference. Lol!

Guys, found these pics of Bernice & Steven in Steps .. not found in the AF Gallery so decided to post here ..

I think Steven did a splendid job in Steps considering he has got no dancing background and had to learn as he went along ...

Bishu
I am looking forward to watching "A journey called life". I am sure it will be interesting with him in it. Actually, I prefer Steven in ancient series, rather than modern types. Somehow, he looks more charming with those ancient costumes!
tamaya
Yes, Steven looks best in Ancient Drama.
His portrayals of Kangxi, Song Man (low), Chao Zhi and Zhou Sai Hin are all so very classic, with their learned scholar air, nobility, mannerisms, courtliness, and talents, etc.

And not too shabby either in modern drama. thumbsup.gif

C: Hi, Ma Chun Wai
S: Xiu Yan Jie, ni hou!
C: In your new series, A Journey called Life (AJCL), you collaborated with Fala Chen and Linda Chung. Don’t you think these 2 ladies’ magnetism is very strong?

S: They are both good. I had this interview in Beijing where I was asked whom I think have the most potential. I mentioned Linda and Fala.

C: Why do you think they have strong potential?
S: Linda is very hard working. I like how she constantly pushes herself for self-improvement.

C: She asked for your advice, right?
S: Not advice, more like discussions. Also, we had a veteran in the series, Kent Go. (brother) He hanged out with us constantly. In AJCL, because Linda and I are lovers, we discussed -- like you do this and I do that. That is, we discussed about everything…

C: Fala is your sister. I heard there’s an episode where she dies and you try to save her; it requires cpr. Instead of doing a chest compression, you did a stomach compression; was it because you were afraid of being labeled salted pig’s trotters? (a perv)

S: Because at that time, there were lots of visiting reporters on location. And they discussed (cpr) with me. Some media friends told me: “You should compress the chest area ma”. Actually..as far as I know, that’s not how it should be. It should be slight lower, right underneath the diaphragm, like 2 fingers space down. I learned this from filming Healing Hands.

C: I thought you learned it from a CPR seminar

S: Of course, they wished I would compress the chest area, more stuff to see. That’s not the way.

C: Yeah, like that time when you did the Latin dance with Rain Li, and your hand’s position was reported as …. So can it be that Mai Zai is being overly wary now after being burned once.

S: Not really. Fala and I had no problems communicating. I trusted her and I believe she trusted me, too.

C: But kiss of life was performed?
S: No. It wasn’t required.
C: It wasn’t even in the script?
S: No. The producer asked us if it’s necessary. We all felt it wasn’t.
C: So, did you have a tiny bit of regret for its omission? (laughter)
S: Both times Fala acted as my sister. Maybe next time when she acts as my gf.
C: You have a lot of (younger) sisters. Fala, Linda, Yumiko. Why did you collect so many?

S: I didn’t collect them. They all said I’m like a big brother. Those younger ones even said I’m like a father.

C: Who? So young?
C: How about Yeung Yi? (Tavia)
S: Ah Yi treats me like a relative. But she feels that I’m a good boyfriend…in the series.
C: In the series… You are very caring to your female co-stars.
S: Well, my attitude is that I’ll cherish every one of my co-stars. Because….well who knows when we will collaborate again, if ever. Also, my outlook on life has changed somewhat.

C: It has become grayer?
S: No, not that
C: Something like life’s perspectives….seldom hear Ma Chun Wai talks about this…

S: Actually because during CNY, our beloved Fei Jie aside, I’ve also lost quite a few friends very suddenly, all very young. In my company, this cinematographer who had collaborated with me in many series suddenly passed away. I felt… one day while chatting with惠英红 (3rd daughter-in-law in Safeguards) when she suddenly told me, “Ngo sek ni.” (I love you) I was taken aback. What? She said whenever she has the opportunity she will tell people (people she likes, of coursr) that she cherishes them. And it got me thinking - true, when we still have the opportunity we should express our concern or love for other people. When I can thank people, I’ll thank them.

C: You were thankful too in the past, only inwardly, but now you will express it outwardly.

S: Right. Now, I’m not shy to express it anymore. I will speak out. Like I’ll thank you for your glass of lemonade.

C: Won’t you scare people off? I’m real scared of this…so abruptly.. when there’s no need for such politeness…and then suddenly…very scary.

S: Well, it won’t be so abrupt. It’s like, “Wei, thank you! ng goi sai” I’ll say them to people - to show appreciation lo.

C: So that means that you’ll tell your girlfriend your feelings, that is, if you’re interested in someone right now.
S: Maybe not during dating, will not especially say it, will go with the flow. If she knows she knows; if she doesn’t, she doesn’t.

C: For sure, will not especially bring it up…just go with the flow
S Yeah, will not especially bring it up…go with the flow
C: So both can tell.
S: I guess when it reaches a certain stage and time, the person who doesn’t know yet will sooner or later catch on.

C: Of course. You’re being obvious here. Mai Chun Wai. (haha!)

So, what’s your favorite scene?
S: There’s this one scene that I’m really happy with. It’s with Mali jie, my mom. After our marriage, Linda conceived our baby, when previously she is thought to be barren. But heaven blessed us with a baby. But because my sister, Fala…she truly loves her brother, me. And she wanted me to get into high society. One day, she got drunk and drove the car into Linda and caused her to lose the baby. Thereafter, I disowned this sister of mine. There I was up on the patio by myself filled with despair; my mom came to talk with me….in the scene we couldn’t control our tears. Truly couldn’t contain them at all…running noses and all.

C: Real tears?
S: Real. The viewers will see that at that time I simply could not control my expressions at all. The sobs, the twitches…. I was sobbing so hard, I could hardly say my lines. That scene was in one take. The producer and director.. I was very happy.. they expressed their thanks to me. That to me was a huge honor –that ‘thank you’ expressed by both the producer and director, thanking us both for performing such a marvelous scene. Their thanks to me were an immense reward.

C: And you stopped crying immediately?
S: No. Still wept. Couldn’t stop at all. .

C: The way you told the story, the series is not light romance as I had first thought.

S: No. Actually, it’s a real life tale..very realistic, very Hong Kong people, like those of us who grew up in public housing. People will feel the familiarity. Because the drama itself will not involve high society. Nor will it depict something unreasonable like how come all the stuff were so expensive?

C: Like a house, poor but still looks that way.

S: Right! 1800 sq ft. How come? We were very insistent on this kind of things.
C: Poor but still watches Plasma (tv)
S: But I bought a cellphone that exploded on me. Linda tricked me and sold me a smuggled cellphone (水货电话) which later exploded inside my pocket, and ripped a hole in my pants .
C: Did you get hurt?
S: No. but it’s this kind of stuff. Very real life. Actually that incident did happen in real life, but the script was already written then.

C: Linda portrayed a Mongkok girl, and wore tank tops.
S: She and Elaine were ‘sisters’; buddies.
C: So, your eyes benefited. Did your heart beat faster? I guess you wouldn’t dare. You worry Raymond Lam would scold you.
S: Ah? What’s that got to do with Raymond?
C: You’ve a problem with your memory.
S: Yeah, many things would abruptly disappear from it. They did well in their portrayal. Like Linda coloring her hair.

C: So for this series, did you get a rumored girlfriend?
S: Don’t think so
C: If really need to.. for promotional reason?
S: Don’t involve me
C: Just to get some rumors going.
S: I don’t want it. I’ll not co-operate. They all know it..especially my manager..
C: Did you tell them that?

S: I told them, don’t involve me. For promotions, I’ll do interviews and dialogues. Anything that is outside work - if it’s real then it’s real; if not then it’s not. I don’t like to see too much of myself in the tabloids. I know it can be quite boring to just talk about work. But I’m totally against tabloid romance绯闻. ‘Against’- meaning I find it very annoying. Some things are not true; everybody knows it, so why pretend for 2 months?

C: Not just for 2; it’s every now and then. Whenever it’s promotional time, the box will pop out.
S: That’s truly so fake. Some that are genuine I will believe it to be true. Because of work, you are paired with whom and whom, and this and that. There’s no meaning to talk about something that’s made-up.

C: Your collaboration with Kent, was it the first time?
S: Yes.
C: How was it?
S: Very happy. We have an affinity. Even though he’s of the older generation, we are like brothers. While at work, whenever we met we would chat nonstop. He talked about the time when he was a director, producer and actor. He talked nonstop about filming. I, myself, like photography, and eager to learn. He’s like an enlightening rod, teaching me many things; like how to write a script; how to direct, how to produce and how to be a better actor. He said he wanted to show me all these things. Truly, he has taught me a lot.

C: Then he is your sifu. (teacher)
S: Even though we don’t have a formal teacher student relationship, I consider him my teacher.

C: In AJCL you’re a marathon runner. You’re also a long distance runner in your career. What about love, also a long distance runner?
S: Well, there’s no point doing short, even though it can be exhilarating.
C: Long distance, meaning the path to the church is quite long, right? A long run before entering the church?
S: When two people have reached a certain stage in their relationship, whereby their separate existences have merged into one, and that person has become part of you, only then can these two live together—to me this is the stage when marriage can be considered.

C: So what stage are you in now? Do you feel a separate existence, a half-half existence, or one-third existence?
S: I guess it’s half-half
C: Her half and your half? Merged into one?
S: I especially value the spiritual connection in a relationship. My job is unfair to her because of my schedules; very hectic. Plus I have too many interests. Would you stand by me and help me in accomplishing my aspirations? Conversely, would I cooperate with you to achieve yours? The person you love, you cherish; can you support her to accomplish her dreams, I think this is so important….

C: You’re so serious, I don’t know how you date.. talking about aspirations.
S: I talk this way too with my friends.
C: Can’t imagine you speaking of love…your aspirations, my aspirations.
S: That’s what I talk about mostly. I’ll ask you how’s your business, how’s your work?
C: You’ve just learned how to be forthcoming with your feelings, you should say, “I love you!”
S: That can't be said too casually. But now I’ll remember to send flowers. Before didn’t remember..
C: So did you send any on last Valentine’s Day?
S: Yes!

C: People always say to do this, do that if the ratings are high, so if AJCL’s ratings are high, what will you do?
S: For me, all those stuff to do if the ratings are high are all bogus. I’ve never seen anybody do them yet. Like wearing swimsuits..
C: Just say for fun ma. Do some promotions
S: I feel that if said then should do it. So I’ll just say throw a dinner celebration.
C: For this too?
S: Yep, dinner for everybody
C: Another one? BBQ?
S: Na! Not BBQ again, Maybe something different
C: Hopefully won’t have to wait too long your dinner treat.
S: I hope so too
C: Thank you
S: Thank you.

Caption: Steven Ma enjoys a leisurely cruise.

Last month, Steven Ma Chun Wai requested vacation days from TVB to join a cruise tour. On the 15 day trip, Steven went to Kobe and Hiroshima in Japan, as well as Dalian, Shanghai, and Beijing in China. He spent the last 3 days of his vacation in Beijing and flew back to Hong Kong afterwards.

Previously, Steven already took two cruise trips. He prefers to travel to destinations on a cruise ship rather than flying direct to the location. Steven is afraid of hassles at the airport, such as losing his luggage and security checks. However, while on a cruise ship, he can leave his luggage in the room and roam freely abroad the ship.

Some people may complain about the boredom of cruise tours. On the contrary, Steven enjoys the relaxing and free nature of the trip. Since cruise vacations are catered towards foreign tourists, no Chinese food served abroad the ship. Throughout the 15 day trip, Steven was forced to eat Western-style cuisine and could not drink Chinese soup until departing from the ship.

Although Steven does not possess any gambling luck, he played the slot machines abroad the ship. This resulted in gambling losses of $300 (USD). However, Steven did not feel unhappy about the loss. He enjoyed the exciting experience of playing slot machines.

Did Steven have any intimate encounters while on board the ship? Steven said no, while pointing out that the cruise passengers were only interested in a relaxing vacation.

Although some passengers had to pay over six figures for luxury room accommodations, Steven felt it was money well spent.

Haha! Actually, two cruise ground crews/tourist guides had posted their close encounters and pictures with Steven (some stealthily taken with a cellphone) on his Baidu fansite. Their unexpected encounters sure made their day. One of them even revealed the rest of the cruise's upcomig city stopovers and sightseeing itinerary.

Hi Everyone,

Recently, I found this forum and started reading Steven Ma's background and history. I noticed him since the time TVB broadcasted File of Justice IV & V. Ever since then, I have been watching his TV series for many years.

I always knew that he is a great actor and singer. However, it really surprises me that he went through so much in order to get to the current fame.

But hey, thank you for doing all the translation due to my lack of reading Chinese characters. I really appreciate the time and effort that all of you put. I felt like I know him a little more, which encourage me to search for his current and old video just to know him more.

Sakura2M, you're welcome. Indeed, Steven's success did not come easy. My translation serves its purpose if only to bring him closer to his fans.

Steven to portray a police officer in his next series.

~~Unrestrained consumption of seafood in New Zealand.
Mai Zai disclosed he had just returned home from New Zealand. He was invited as a guest star in The Global Chinese New Talent Singing Competition Final 「全球華人新秀大賽」He sang 3 songs in all. He said he unwittingly caused quite a commotion when he got off the stage to shake hands with the audience causing the security to step in. He extended his stay for two more days of vacation. Besides consuming lots of seafood including oysters and crabs, he also did some shopping for honey and snacks. He said in the past he wasn’t interested in eating well, but now he treats himself better. He is more particular now with his food, taking care to make sure it’s not only healthy but more elaborate, too. As such, he has gained 2 lbs, and those pounds usually appear on his face first. So now he’s on a diet so that he will not become a hog's head.

Ma Zai also disclosed that he will have a chance to portray a police office in his next series. After all these years, this will be his first time portraying a police office, therefore, will be a challenge for him.

Steven Ma Learns to Eat in New Zealand; Kent Cheng $100,000 Past Debts

Returning from New Zealand to Hong Kong, Steven Ma yesterday along with Linda Chung, Fala Chan, Kent Cheng and Elaine Yiu arrived on the track in a villiage (?) for TVB Series "A Journey Called Life" promotional event, the cast played running games and attacting dozens of young students surrounding them, among the cast "Fat Boss" Kent Cheng and Steven were the most welcomed.

In Steven's visit to New Zealand, he was the guest performer for the "Global Chinese Rookie Competition" 「全球華人新秀大賽」 and sang 3 songs. When he was leaving the stage and was shaking audiences hands, it caused a bit of a chaos. The security had to take over to end it. After the performances, Steven stayed for another two days to enjoy the seafoods and ate a lot of crabs and oysters, also went shopping for honey and snacks. He gained two pounds of fat from all this. He smiles: "In the past I didn't like to eat, but nowadays learned to treat myself a little better, have requests of what to eat and have to eat healthy and rich, but my face has always been chubby, so now have to immediately try to lose those 2 pounds, or else become a 'pig head'."

Fala Chen Works Harder to Keep Fit

Yesterday Linda appeared in jeans and long leather boots, clashing with others who had sport clothing and running shoes, Linda said: "My outfit is the costume from 'Heart of Greed II'. Because I didn't know we had to run and after the promotion I have to rush back to film, so won't have enough time to change." She said that when she was studying, she was a Master Athlete, she did track and basketball and etc. Hard to believe of her. Towards "Journey" ratings were only average, Linda said that the discussions/talks of the series are not bad also some people criticized that her acting was too exaggerated, she feels that maybe because the audience aren't use to seeing her as that type of character, but there's people that notice her she feels happy about it and she will work on improving herself, hope next time will do even better. Since entering the entertainment circle, because of the busy schedule Fala has not really been able to do exercises, she said: "as an artiste, exercising outdoors is inconvenient, I don't like to have stress/pressure when I'm exercising, so usual days I would only work out at home, doing simple exercises to keep fit."

Kent Gor speaks of $100,000's Debts, Tears Up

In addition, Kent Gor yesterday accepted an radio interview, speaking of him in the past he invested in some movies, originally he only would pitch in $6, $7 hundred thousand, but because there were some friends who couldn't pay up, he just did the repayments on his own, results had to pay $11 million, asked why he didn't announce bankruptcy? He said because he wanted to "lift up his head to be a person" in the entertainment circle. For his brave stand-up, he said that he has to thank two women, his mother and wife. After saying that he could not help but tear up (cry): "My mother told me, it's okay son, you didn't go gamble and that you could start over. We came from a poor family, scared?" As for his wife also did not argue with him, just advised him to find a solution, slowly will past through the hard time, Kent Gor also is glad that he experienced failure early, if it he failed in 1997 after then that would be even worst because life would be harder then, but he repaid all his debts before 1997.

In an interview, Steven said his next series will start production in June; his role is that of a police officer, don't know if the series is BF3 or not. But my bet is he will not be in BF3.

Charmaine Sheh Asked Steven Ma to Give her Diamonds
Friday May 2, 2008 Hong Kong

Charmaine Sheh and Steven Ma attended Emperor Jeweler exhibition at Macau yesterday. Charmaine jokingly asked Steven to present her with a set of jeweler worth over $6 million, causing Steven to be nervous and said that he will have to sell his house first.

Emperor Jeweler will be holding their [Precious Jade] exhibition from the 1st till 4th of May at Emperor Hotel in Macau. Jade represents good luck and prosperity, therefore newest jade designs will be the main theme of the event. Yesterday, Charmaine and Steven wore jewelry set worth more than $16 million. Steven who rarely take part in such event looked uneasy posing, rather an amusing situation.

Charmaine wore a low cut dress and wore a [Ruby Heart] ruby set worth $651, 000 at the beginning of the event. She said that in conjunction with the Olympics, she purposely chose to appear in red rubies. She originally wanted to wear a red dress, but couldn't find a suitable one therefore she settled with wearing red rubies.

In addition, Charmaine displayed a diamond set [Glamour Collection] worth over $754, 000. She disclosed that when she was studying in Switzerland, an admirer suddenly went down on his knee and proposed marriage. "He suddenly removed the ring from his hand and proposed marriage, I was really shocked. I do feel little touched but I do not wish to give up my studies therefore I rejected him." Charmaine says when she told her mother afterward, she advised her not to hurt his feelings as it took a lot of courage to propose.

Asked about her preference for wedding ring, Charmaine replied: "It has to be a diamond ring, but the value doesn't matter. The most important thing is sincerity. There's no need for elaborated proposal or kneeling down. He must make me feel moved to have the impulse of getting married." (Has anyone moved you?) "If there is, I'd be married by now. This is a very important decision."

Steven praised Charmaine look beautiful with the diamonds, therefore she immediately asked him to buy her a diamond ring on the spot. He laughed and said that she would have to wait another 3-4 years, or until he filmed 30-40 series to save enough money. Otherwise he would have to sell his house. Wearing a set worth $209, 000, his favorite is the diamond bangle worth $134, 000. When asked if his fees for this event is enough for his to purchase this bangle: "It should be enough, haha!" (Have you ever presented diamonds to a girl?) "I've bought a 2 carat diamond, it was certified E Color Grade S1 in 1980." At first he really felt a pinch when he bought it, but seeing the happy reaction of the girl, he feels it's worth it.
