I've only seen the first series and the third series. at first i thought the 3rd series was quite confusing, but as i kept watching it made a lot more sense. for this series i think ppl really have to pay close attention to the dialogue. i think the key to understanding this series is in the dailogue. i agree that there was very litte action in this vampire series.

in the series, ma siu ling barely fought any vampires, actually there was only one scene that i remember that actually dealt with vanquishing ghosts. and it was the part where ma siu ling was teaching fong teen ngai how to catch ghosts, and they caught that ghost who possessed the girl.

one thing that kept me watching the movie was that girl who practiced witchcraft, the one who had to keep wearing the "sum sor" to be kept alive. she was mad cute.

Yes. Part 4 was just as lame as part 3. It was long, confusing and boring. I surely would not recommend this series to anyone. At the end of part 4, i dont really know who is dead and who is alive. Everything is so unclear. I hope they stop making continuations to this series because it will only get more and more stupid

yeah i agree with u, it was a bit confusing at the beginning. i didnt understood when ma siu leng came back and then drove the bike, when she was in the past. well 3 of them i think the 1st was the best part
kikinori
my date with a vampire III kinda boring and the first two is petty good
milady
I thought the 3rd my date with a vampire was along and boring also. I was so confused throughout the series. I really liked the first two better. The second one was my favorite. I think they shouldn't make anymore my date with a vampire series. It's getting too confusing. They are running out of good ideas for the plot.

I love MDWAV! But you know there's a guy in MDWAV 3 who acts as the genius fortune teller He You Qiu? And no one cares about him manx... down.gif
marilyn
hmm, actually, i think MDVA3 is not bad..perhaps those who think tt MDVA3 is boring shld pay more attention to the storyline becoz if u watch more carefully, u might realise the storyline is actually very good! though it felt like there are many loose ends throughout the initial part of the show, the story eventually tie up all the mysteries n u will understand all the puzzling stuff orginally in the show..i think the scriptwriter has done a good job! n i really like ma xiao ling fighting in the show but too bad, there isn't many scenes on her fighting much..she looks so cool when she fights. isn't it??? infatuated.gif

i quite like part 3, i did'nt find it confusing, if u follow the plot and characters, its quite compelling and interesting, like introducing the gods, and devils. i find it very similar to part2, like the goddess was suppose to be the evil one that destroys the earth, and they have to stop her. part 3, the custumes and graphics was much better.

well, i quite like part 3 too. but it does require attention to the dialougue. the story was nicely written, all characters have chance to be developed, no more 2 leads show.

for the side stories, i like the ma da long (xiao ling's father) and ma xiao hu (di zhang wang) when he imagine himself as WD50 unmask warrior to save the world.
yunise
at first i tot it was blur too, but after some effort, i finally got the story.
nt too bad la no.4 but of course 1 is e very best.
gocchin56
I think the 3rd one was too...unpractical? It's so weird that all their gods are vampires, and that all those whatever Di Zang Wang and Pan Gu seems a little extra....
WaiSiuBo
not me i really liked it a lot better than the other ones. the only weird part is near the end where they go back to real life at firts i didnt get it but after a while i got it
miss scarlett
Erm, personally I think they're all confusing. O________O the 3rd absolutely sucked, lol. There's too much past and future events and it makes the plot very confusing.

Anyways, I liked the first one the best. I really like Siu Ling. She reminds me of Sailer Moon, lol.
MiSZCHELLe
Wasn't that confusing if you actually follow the plot and stuff, you might find it interesting

I don't like the third one, i thought it was kinda confusing and boring. i thought the first two was good. probably because this movie has a huge cast that makes this boring.

I AGREE! the 3rd one was SO confusing in the beginning, but i still think it was great. If there were to be a sequel I'd still watch it, but i heard the 2 leads were going to only be guest stars sad-smiley-065.gif MDWAV is still one of my favourites of all time

wow seems like a lot of people don't understand whats even going on. you guys either have a very bad understanding be it chinese or not, or many of you just have low attention spans or didn't like the show at all and just forced yourselves to watch it.

anywho. all 3 parts are connected somehow if not directly. the transition from 1 to 2 may seem like it doesn't have any connections at all, but the truth is it is, even though vaguely attatched, some characters make dialogue connections from part 2 to 1. for example, the fat ghost guy that dressed up as bruce lee. He mentions in his dialogue with "meng meng/mong mong" that he used to be buddha, but he did something (rewriting history) that was forbidden and as punishment, he was to live as a human with terrible luck for 100 human lives. Also at the very end of the first vampire series, if you guys don't understand chinese/can't read chinese there is a bunch of dialogue that is written on the screen. it mentions that both Yut Fu and "Tian You/Tin Yau" (known as "guo hua/gwok wah" actually during this time) escape the wrath of becoming vampires. BUT it also states that after Yut Fu dies the being "guo hua/gwok wah" is uncertain.
however, yes there are some things that don't add up even with this vague connection. thats because as someone mentioned earlier, they weren't planning a sequel until ratings were very high.

now the transition from part 2 to 3 are direct. there isn't much to explain really because it just continues the story of how it was left off in the second. but yes, even then the story is somewhat different. at the ending of part 2, the world where the 2 main leads were in was just a colorful plain it seems and only the 2 of them existed. At the beginning of the 3rd part, it was more like an abandoned place where the gods named "poon goo" lived and they were actually there with them, the 2 main leads.

for the person who asked why kristy was no longer part of kenneth chan's lover, that is because she is no longer part of the ATV productions, so they had to compensate this loss. Also, i don't think they ever mentioned the relationship between kenneth chan's aliases (yut fu and szeto sir) in the 3rd installment of this series, so there wasn't any need for her to be even brought up.

maybe the only reason why i get most of this stuff is because i actually took time watching these series more than once and 2 right after 1. not because i didn't understand it, because i think they both were good series, and can probably be dubbed as my all time favorites.

and something i forgot to mention. I personally thought this series was alright, not that good, but definately not bad. it failed as a trilogy but still good enough for my likes. the most annoying thing was they made 2 endings to the 3rd part. One which was that they went to the church again and "Fu Sheng/Fok Sung" ends it off simiarly to what he said at the very beginning of this series (in my opinon, a cool way to end it. you know how they always say, the end of a beginning or the beginning of the end) and the alternate ending was where there was little dialogue between the 2 main leads, joey meng and eric wan. Joey saying what her father says "believe and i'll live, don't believe and i'll die. i can't die, i won't die. we haven't gotten married yet. i can't die" . while Eric says "we will get married" and then that sad song comes on and shows how the second series ended with them shooting the arrow. In my opinion overall, both endings are acceptable. one having a positive ending, giving fans/audiences hope that she lives and the negative ending where it seems like in the end she is just meant to die and they just can't be together (remember that in the second series, eric is supposed to return "jai" from his previous life "kuang zhong tong/fong jong tong" to "ma ling er/ma ling yee" which is joey's previous life but i guess history repeated itself didn't it.) because both have a good feel to me. its just that i feel they should just stick to ONE true ending.
however, i do feel that the negative/sad ending is more suitable. I say this because this suits the trilogy's trend. the style has always been something like both of them dying together. or one person dies and the other doesn't (like in the first series, joey was dying). and also this negative/sad ending brings a true conclusion to the story. its apparent to me that in this ending joey's character does indeed die. not like the other ending where he bites joey, therefore leaving the audience to think of something beyond what the story tells. questions that will be asked such as "will she be crazy like before? or will she have her powers tamed this time" but in the end it doesn't really matter because when she was crazy she was still pretty much in love with eric's character.

one final thing, continuity. This aspect is totally off the charts. I just hate the way they changed how eric looked at the end of part 2 with his white hair, and that was it, nothing more and it worked! simple wins anyday. in part 3 they flared up his eyes and his costume didn't look cool at all to me.

wow longest post i've ever written. i hope this clears up a lot of things for people that are confused.

As for me, i liked all three parts... But i agree that part 1 and 2 was a bit better than part 3. I guess its because of the lack in the action and two much talk, but hey i like how they link all 3 part together... when they were not considering making part 2 and 3 when they filmed part 1.

Honestly i personally like part 2 better, he he why, well better transformations, better cases, and not just only focusing on Sarm bun yut fu. Better actors as well, like Sam and "Ma Ding Dong" (Dont know her name,) just more actors we know of that also acted in tvb shows as well.

Still no matter how much 2 is better than 1, there are some parts in 1 that can never be replaced, like hey Eric looks better in 1 (hairstyle etc etc) haha looks younger, well dah its part 1! of course he's younger.

IPB Image

What i like in part 1 better than 2:

-It is the basis to where the show begins, and you never watch it before, don't have to compare... As it is afresh.
-hairstyles - Eric (Tinyao) and Kenneth (Yudfu)
-Kenneth in part 1 and 2 is good, even tho i don't like his hairstyle in 2, its still good, i guess i like him because he loves zhen zhen alot, even tho he is evil. And in 2, he doesn't portray as evil, even though he keeps mentioning about killing tinyao to avenge zhens zhens death, i know he doesn't mean it.
- Mei loi in part 1 better
- zhen zhen in part 1 better
- Ton bun zhen ng / Ton bun zheng - part 1 better, well unless he didn't piss me of in part 1 as he did in part 2.
- Fong tin yau and fong kwok wah is one person, not two separate person...
- Fong tin yau's best bud (police friend) he usually brings the jokes into the crowd, i miss him, even though he is still in part 2, but he plays a different role, (he is "Mary's father).
- Gum zheng zhong - in part 1 better than 2 - becuase in part 1, he is on ma xiao ling side more, like trying to get xiao ling and tinyao together...
- Fong tin yao isn't afraid of jurn sung in part 1 as he is in 2...
This is the part i don't get, if faith were to occur again, even though its been one year, being bitten by jurn sung in part 2 compare to part 1, how come in part 1 tinyao is not afraid of jurn sung and in part 2 he is, and besides how come also their powers ended up different compare to those in part 1, i mean in 1, fok sung knows telekineses etc, why in part 2, his powers change completely into "turning someone ugly to pretty-good looking?
- Tinyao and zhen zhen did not kiss. In part 2 they kissed twice... NO Fair... why can't xiao ling andd tinyao have a passionate kiss at least once!!!
- Peter in part 1 is better than in part 2.

What i don't like about part 1:

- the way tin yao can't be decisive about the ones he love.
- too much focus on just one enemy 'Sam bun yud fu'
- transformations
- to much scary scenes/dark atmosphere.

What i like about part 2:
- All those great memories, of fong tinyao and ma xiao ling is more than those in part 1.
- Ma Xiao ling hairstyle toward the end looks nice
- Tinyao did not bite zhen because of what she said, if you don't love me then dont bite me...
- funny scenes on how kwok wah is pretending to be tinyao.
- how zhen zhen asks fok sung and tinyao how many bowl of rice you want? and tinyao replied just one will do, and then zhen zhen said ok, then one big bowl! haha! Tinyao got freaked out and said "but not too big".
- kind of the opposite in part 1 tinyao takes care of fok sung and in part 2 fok sung takes care of tinyao.
-like the story of the Ma ancestor (the past life of Xiao ling and tinyao).
- better transformations - Tin yao and si toa fun yun, better than part 1 instead of wearing a mask.
- best ending out all three of them.
-The way how tinyao is in pain, and xia ling cares and always there with him.

What i don't like about part 2:
- kissing scenes of tin yao and zhen zhen
- the fact that kwok wah carries the hatred he has for the Ma family.
- the way tinyao is portrayed as a useless vampire.
- they forget all the events that happen in part 1, it is like saying part 1 is not important.
- Ma ding dong dies.
- Si to fun yun goes berserk

What makes part 3 good:
- I guess its been a good link all along, like its great how the author links all three parts very well.
- Tinyao always comes out in time to save xiaoling
- the flashback scenes to part 2
- give me the thought that first class vampire doesn't really rely on blood to survive, that they can eat normal human food as well. And tinyao is a first class vampire... Yay!
- the photos on xiao ling's table.
- Even tho the role of fong tin yao is less, it makes him more special... besides i like the way how no one can replace tinyao in xiao ling's heart, not even zin tao (his past life).

What i don't like:
- The transformations is good, still better than 1, but not as good as 2.
- too much talk and less action
- don't really like fok sung, i liked him better in 1 & 2.
- don't really like kenneth in 3, i thought that sarm bun yud fu and zhen zhen is marn sae yun yune (millions life of yune fun), why in Sarm bun yud fu's, past life he love this other girl besides of zhen zhen if he is to fall in love with zhen zhen in his every life...

Overall Part 1,2,3

I recommend watching part 1 to get a brief detail, but anyway the way the author makes it, you don't really have to watch part 1 because if they were to forget anyway --> (Well unless you would like to see the younger version of Tinyao. laugh.gif)

You can just watch part 2 straight away as part 2 memories is not linked with all the events that occur in part 1. Is like starting again with some details of part 1.

P.S i personally don't hold a grudge with part 3, but i agree that part 3 is not as interesting as part 2, anyhow, i like the way how tinyao is always there for xiao ling. I actually reckon the ending in all 3 parts really interesting , and i don't dislike part 3 ending, i understand that xia ling just fainted or tired, i know she didn't die...

Threads been going on that there would be MDWAV IV, but honestly, from watching part 3, what i can see, Tin yao really aged alot... and i really don't want to watch the aging vampires as they grew much older....

I understand the concept that vampires don't age, but in reality they will... hehe, i just want to make MDWAV the best memories in my heart . Like one of the best shows i ever watched... so i would not bother watching part 4, despite that it is one of the great series i've ever watched...

Overall Rating:
MDWAV ~ out of 10
Part 1- 8.5
part 2 -10
part 3 - 7.5

when i 1st watched mdwav 1 2 and 3 it was 2004, it was confusing as hell, but now i am 16 years old and reqatched all 3 series and eeverything made sense. there didn't seem to be any bad or confusig parts, u just had to pay attention in order to what what is going on, plus atv made two endings for mdwav 3 on is probably a ending for the series and the other one where ma siu ling lives is made for mdwav 4 to continue story
boisbois
I agree My Date With a Vampire 3, is bizarre. i think this is because of the discrepancy from the first 2 prequels. actually, Sequel 3 is pretty good if you see how they can draw on so many periods throughout the series & incorporate the many characters into the plot. i particularly like Ma Siu Ling's relationship wit her daughter & Fok Sung; & the two Tin Yo . i don't like Alice chan. i think she is a fake Anita Mui. (personal preference). Joey Meng s too old
