Carina Lau made the headlines when a photograph of her, taken 12 years ago when she was kidnapped and raped, was published on the front cover of the now defunct Eastweek magazine. It had caused an uproar and hundreds of actors came out to protest against the media for their unethical morals. Its publisher, Albert Yeung, had no choice but to close the magazine. Yeung, who is the head of the Emperor Entertainment Group, is noted by the media for his lust for young girls. Allegedly, he had slept with most of the young female starlets signed to his record company, including Joey Yung, Twins and Yumiko, amongst others. The power to make these ordinary girls so successful in so short a time ultimately comes with price.

In a move that was not unexpected, media reports began naming Carina Lau Ka-Ling this weekend as the actress depicted in a topless cover photo in East Week Magazine last week.

Lau herself broke four days of silence yesterday when she appeared for the first time to speak about the controversy. To a loud chorus of applause, Lau made a surprise appearance at a rally outside the SAR government's Central district offices on Sunday afternoon. The rally, which reportedly drew a crowd of over five hundred people, saw entertainment circle personalities, politicians, leaders from Hong Kong's social welfare groups and outraged citizens join together to condemn East Week for their actions. This despite the fact that East Week's owner, Albert Yeung Sau-Sing, announced on Saturday that East Week is ceasing operation.

With boyfriend Tony Leung Chiu-Wai standing nearby, Carina Lau declared: "I want to tell the people who love me, the people who support me and the people who want to hurt me that I am stronger than I knew I could be. If this difficult ordeal can make people realize that ethical behaviour by the media is important, my pain and my dignity mean nothing."

After her speech, she did not speak to the media even though they shouted questions asking her whether or not she will co-operate with police or file a lawsuit. Lau did, however, release a written statement in which she thanked people for their care and concern. She also explained that the reason she went public was because: "I do not want the same thing happening to another person. I hope that after today, our friends in the media will consider the victim and their family when confronted with similar circumstances."

She closed her statement by saying that she has put the incident behind her so she will be making no further comments about it.

As East Week Magazine is part of the Emperor Group, EEG head Albert Yeung Sau-Sing stepped up on Saturday and, through a statement, apologized for the controversy. Further, he announced that he made the "heart-wrenching" decision to close the magazine For Yeung, the decision to close the publication was like making a decision to "kill [his] own son."

The two hundred workers at the magazine will be offered other work in the Emperor Group or be given "generous" compensation.

In spite of the public display of self-flagellation, many in Hong Kong are still not satisfied. Some have begun to call for a boycott of Emperor Group products such as the albums from its successful EEG music division. This weekend, the EEG band Twins as well as EEG singers like Mandy Chiang Nga-Man and Maggie Lau Si-Wai began to distance themselves from the controversy by pointing out that the Emperor Group's music division and publication division are seperate entities.

Some have also begun to question whether or not Mr. Yeung knew of the decision to run the photo prior to the publication of last Wednesday's edition of East Week. People who hold this position are urging authorities to leave no stone unturned by thoroughly investigating any person who may be involved.

In 2002 Carina found herself involved in a scandal that rocked Hong Kong for months. A magazine owned by Albert Yeung (head of EEG and manager of The Twins and Joey Yung among others) displayed a picture of a female Hong Kong actress in an obvious state of distress and in topless mode. Though the face was pixillated over it soon became common knowledge that the person was Carina and that the picture was taken years before when she was kidnapped by some triad thugs. As more information spilled out it was revealed that at the time of the kidnapping Carina was having a financial dispute with Yeung and much speculation arose that he was in fact behind the kidnapping and the photo and was now publishing it to embarrass Carina. The city and other actors were outraged at this - Carina addressed the issue with dignity - and soon the magazine was closed down - but as of yet the investigation into the kidnapping has not come up with anything.

well i dont think joey would because she sings good and she has roman as her mentor. I dunno about twins because they they mite and i think yumiko would have because she just popped out of nowhere and got promoted so rapidly

This thing about "female sleeping with bosses" is so common , not only in showbiz but everywhere, to get fame and money.
i am 100% sure twins and joey and other really did sleep with boss, theres is no reason one will get famous withn such a short time and guess was it worth for a company to invest on them, like to spend millions on them, not mentioning there are better and talented singers out there. So conclusion, accept a fact that 90% of celebritiess*female slept with bosses. no offence but it is just a fact,
