Kenji Wu Ke Qun (Simplified Chinese: 吳克群; pinyin: Wú Kèqún, born 18 October 1979) is a singer-actor from Taiwan. He made his debut in 2000 with his sophomore album Tomorrow, Alone. Despite the involvement of top producers, the album only received lukewarm response. This gave him opportunities to act in idol dramas such as Peach Girl and Moonlight Forest.

However, with an intense passion for music, Kenji made a comeback to the music industry in November 2004 with a self-titled album, released by Seed Music. All ten songs in the album were written by him. Critics around Asia gave highly positive reviews. The hit song Wu Ke Qun cleverly incorporated the impersonations of well-known singers such as A-do, Lee-Hom Wang and The Shins.

He returned in October 2005 with a new album titled The Kenji Show, also released by Seed Music. Working on a theme of having fun, the album comprises of songs with his style of simple yet intrigueing lyrics. He has nominated for the best Chinese male singer in Taiwan of the 2006 Golden Music Awards, but the award went to Lee-Hom Wang at last.

He recently released a new album entitled "A General Order" and again, all songs were written by Kenji himself showing his creativity. This time he experimented with the Chinese music style, therefore the title song was written in that way. Other chinese style songs including "Peaked You And Me" and "Champion" as well as the hit ballad "Cripple" are featured on his latest album.

Ke Qun is really talented! I always admire artists who write their own songs. I've met him twice and he's such a nice and down to earth guy. ;] I really hope he gets his big break because he had such a tough time over the past few yrs. He definitely deserves it!!!! A guy with his talent has LOTS of potential. =) Glad there are people who enjoy his music! I love his ballads!

IN his own words, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Kenji Wu Ke-chun is a 'sinner in love'.

He's chauvinistic, opinionated and direct.

But his biggest sin yet is neglecting his ex-girlfriend and always putting his dreams and his friends above her, he confessed to The New Paper.

He initiated their final break-up last year, after a four-year on-off relationship.



'Problems inevitably surfaced as time went by, but I didn't have the mind or heart to handle them,' said Kenji, who was in town on Monday to promote his new album, The Kenji Show.

'After a while, we both felt we were a burden to each other.'

But the boyish 26-year-old still felt bad, so he decided to write a song about his bottled-up emotions.

'It's a form of repentance. Sometimes it's hard to say sorry, especially for guys who like to act tough, so I thought I'd sing instead of saying it.'

The result is a new song, I've Sinned, which has earned him the forgiveness he craves.

Kenji said he and his ex are now good friends, and she sometimes gives him feedback on his songs.

'When she heard it (I've Sinned), she was like, 'You still have a conscience.' So she forgave me.'

Did that also mean a second chance?

Laughing and shaking his head, Kenji looked just a tad disappointed as he said she has already moved on with a new beau.

He, however, has been too busy to fall in love again.

Following the success of his previous self-titled CD, Kenji has released a new album, which has reportedly sold over 50,000 copies in two months.

Critics have been lauding his musical creativity.

His quirky first single, Tongue-tied, has also become a karaoke favourite.

On top of penning his own lyrics and melodies, Kenji was also the producer of this album. He said he found it hard to cope with the pressure of being caught between the creative and business aspects of the project.

The musical arrangement for Tongue-tied, for instance, was amended four times before everyone - from the musicians to the planning and promotions team - was happy with it.

Kenji recalled: 'We argued so many times and once I was so mad that I just stood up and left the room (during a meeting).

'They'd say (the arrangement) is not special enough, not fun enough, not cool enough, or not cute enough. But it's worth it because everyone's satisfied with the final result.'

With his star rising, Kenji has also snagged no less than four endorsements, ranging from fashion to beauty and optical products. He reportedly commands a seven-figure sum for each deal.

SENDS MONEY TO MUM

The filial son said he remits a big part of his earnings to his mother in Kaohsiung, and is saving up to buy a guitar for stage performances.

But fame and fortune also brought an unpleasant surprise: Kenji found a group of gangsters waiting for him at an autograph session held in Taiwan last month.

They turned out to be debt collectors who tried to make him repay the NT$3 million ($151,700) owed by his father, apparently due to a business failure.

Recalling the incident, Kenji said he later managed to talk the burly guys out of harassing him. They have not reappeared since.

'I'm not the one who owes them money, so what can I do? But I'm just peeved that they frightened my fans.

'Some of my fans told me that they were very worried for me and they wanted to help me block (the gangsters). I was very touched.'

As for his dad, Kenji said he has not seen him in a long time. Kenji was reportedly raised by his mum and was never close to his father.

'I couldn't find him, but he did ask his friend to tell me he's sorry (for all the trouble caused).'

Hey all you Kenji fans...do any of you know any sort of e-mail that i can contact Kenji's record company? I bought a brand new sealed copy of The Kenji Show but it skips REALLY bad and i can hardly listen to it. I can't return it because i bought it while i was in China and i live in the U.S. I can't read Chinese so i can't find any e-mail on his website or anything. Thanks!

I saw him on an episode of SZDZ once and thought hmm he seems pretty popular in Taiwan but how come I don't see a thread for him. But I just found out today that his English name is Kenji so I just found this thread! haha I think I'm going to go download some of his songs now =]

Kenji might be playing in a new SETTV drama, Smile Pasta together with Nicholas Zhang Dong Liang and Cyndi Wang. Its not confirmed yet if he got the role or not, so dont put your hopes too high ^^;;

i've heard one of his new songs and it's not bad. he's change alot and ppl say he looks healthier now that he's darker. i really like his voice and his music. it's awesome!

I have his new album, I like it a lot. His songs are really good, he had a nice mix of some fast music and some ballads. He has a good voice I really love the song a general order.

Anyways...OMGOSH!!! I *JUST* discovered Kenji!!!!!!! Right now...I only listened to THREE songs by him...and I LOVE LOVE them a lot!!!

WOW!! He's 28 years old....haha, I thought he was a lot older than that!! lol hehe, I thought he was one of those "oldie" but when I looked through his other mvs...yeah, he looked A LOT younger!

At first I thought he was from mainland because in his mv: 家的名字 he was in Beijing, China...at the Temple of Heaven for one of the scene in his MV but then I realized that he was talking about going back home (to Taiwan)!! lol Still, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this SONG like crazy! So this is Kenji Wu....does anyone know if he is somehow connected to Ella of S.H.E. I'm still trying to find out because in a radio conversation Selena and Ella talked about him.

"Nan Yong" was not bad. I thought he looks a bit like Shawn Yue when I saw one of his photos...or maybe that's not really obvious?? BTW, he performed with Michael Guang Liang recently in his music show.
