Organ Donation Promotion Launches


Donation promotion: Assistant Director of Health (Health Promotion) Dr Regina Ching appoints entertainer Miriam Yeung as an Organ Donation Ambassador.

A publicity campaign has launched highlighting that organ donation can save lives, and bring new hope to as many as 2,000 patients awaiting transplants. The Light Up Lives, Support Organ Donation campaign encourages people to sign-up for donating organs after death and secures family support to make informed decisions for such a worthy cause. The cadaveric donation rate in Hong Kong was 4.2 per million population last year. The corresponding figures were 10.7 in the UK, 21.4 in the US and 35.1 in Spain. The hospital Authority recorded only 362 organ or tissue donations in Hong Kong last year while 296 were reported up to September this year. The figures fell short of demand. There are 2,000 patients on the waiting list for organ transplants. Of them, 1,400 need kidney transplants, 400 await corneas and 150 need liver donations.

Publicity items

Posters promoting organ donation will be displayed in MTR and KCR stations this month and in January, and roving exhibitions will be staged next year. Car windscreen stickers carrying the message will be distributed to drivers during off-peak hours at all tunnel toll booths today and tomorrow. Entertainer Miriam Yeung has been appointed an Organ Donation Ambassador while Government departments, non-government organisations and private companies have been invited to support the campaign. There have been 31 supporting organisations so far. As a token of gratitude, the names of the supporting organisations will be listed on a dedicated website. To enhance youth awareness, the Department of Health will co-ordinate "train-the-trainer" sessions next year for secondary school students.

i have been a miriam fan since a few years ago, managed to see her when she came to singpore, when they were promoting the movie. sound of colours.
haha, i love most of her songs and most importantly her character. bubbly cheerful, weird (in a good way!) haha

Its indeed a hard song to sing because of the extremely long phrases!! This song is one of my favorite songs in "Unlimited"!

Hey, the latest movie that Miriam just came out with is called "2 Become 1"! It was released last year January. Richie Ren is also a part of the main cast along with Justin Lo. It is about Miriam having breast cancer on one of her breasts. She also went to Mainland China last year to act in an ancient serie with Wallace Huo...I'm not too sure of the name, but maybe "Wu Shi Lang"? I believe she is currently working on a film with Eason Chan where they have roles as fishmongers! hehe...

Hope that miriam will receive a good results at this weekend’s TVB music awards. She is one of the best singers these days with fantastic attitude and positive vibes! She attempts to sing a variety of songs – not just Cantonese pop…. This could be one of the reasons why her songs do not receive massive air-play of radio station.

^Yea...I wish Chin Fa the very best at the JSG 2006! Hope she can grab home well deserved prizes! I loved her duet with Edmond this year! Hope it wins Gold Duet!!! Support her no matter what ah!!!

Chin Wah will be one of the MCs for RTHK 2006 Music Awards! I am so happy and i cannot wait to watch the awards show! We will see her through-out the whole presentation! YAYA! Hopefully, this doesn't mean she won't recieve any awards at RTHK! The awards will be held on the 27th of this month!

oh well, it is always like that. it is probably because she just change her company. so it is okay. eventhough i really did wanted her song da sor to win someting. i love that song! the lyrics and music are magnificent. i belive it is one of her classic song together with a girl's prayer and small city, big matter.

hopefully she would be able to get more awards this year! with a music supporting her. i think we can look forward to more movies by her. Her movies ar ealways very well received by the hongkongers and other audiences! haha i cant wait for her movie with eason this year. since they said that it is a chinese new year movie. so hopefully we will be able to get to watch it.

Miriam said before that even if she doesn't win any awards, she will still attend the award shows to show great spirit. Her spirit is what counts the most when this happens! Career - Changing Company is a Gamble

Miriam and Paco's 6 years of collaboration has finally come to an end. This year onwards she'll be joining Lin Jianyue's Media Asia movie company and A Music record company. Usually in the year when a singer changes company, she won't be winning anything in the year end awards show. But Miriam is considered very lucky to be able to get "My Favorite Female Singer" in CRHK Awards. No wonder when she was performing on stage, she went down to hug Paco.

After 6 years, Miriam and Paco have developed very deep relationship but they still have to part. Miriam explained, "This is a hard decision to make. But after considering for my long term plans, I hope to have more space to develop my acting career and to open up overseas market. Media Asia's package seems to suit me more so I decided to go over. But this doesn't mean I won't be working with Gold Label anymore. In the future we might cooperate in concerts or movies."

Miriam described to be in the entertainment industry is just like gambling. Winning or losing is not important as long as you still hold chips to continue playing, "Many asked me if it's a wise decision to change company. I said I treat it as a gamble, no one knows what's right or wrong. Life is a gamble. Staying in the old company is a gamble, going to a new one is also a gamble. Since it's all gamble, of course I'll try something new. Actually Leon's A Music signed me is also a headache, because I'm also a singer with many requests."

In the past, Miriam has limited knowledge of Leon Lai. She just knows he's a heavenly king and never had thought he will open a record company which is doing so well, and now she's even in his company. "When Mr Lin (Lin Jianyue) suggested me to go to Leon's record company, I trusted his plan because he's a good boss which far sight. Recently I have more contact with Leon. I find that he has deep understanding for the market and is good in raising new singers and picking singers. I started to have different view about him. He's definitely not just another singer."

When a male chauvinist meet a female chauvinist, explosion might occur. Miriam met Leon for meeting recently and there's already some arguments. Miriam said, "Perhaps it because both of us are singers and we are persistent. He has his insist, I have my opinion. Maybe we haven't found a common goal in cooperation. But I believe with more communication, we'll find something common. Though we argue, I still have praises for him. He's quite professional and will do homework before meetings. Paco was like that too, hence I have confidence in him. No matter how the arguments will end up, I'll still listen to him in the end. Because he has showed good results. He succeeded with Janice and Jill. If I don't believe him why would I sign his company?"




Family - Parents Worried About Health

Parents used to be concerned for her marriage, but recent years they are more worried for her health. Because from her old company to her new company, her work schedule has been packed and she is suffering from long term lack of sleep, "I don't know how come there's still so much to do. 24 hours a day is not enough. Recently have to record songs that I owe Gold Label and I'm also filming new movie with Eason, non-stop. Sometimes when I'm sick I dare not let them know, I don't want my parents to worry."

Miriam's father who had been teaching English in primary and secondary schools, is very strict to her. Even if she's a singer now, he will reprimand when she has make mistakes, "There's once when I told reporters that my mum likes Korean star Rain. The next day it was on newspapers. I received 3 messages from my dad, all scolding me. One of them has the English word 'Lunatic'. I don't even know what it means and had to ask people help me check dictionary before I found out he's scolding me crazy. I had to apologize to my parents after that."



Love - Afraid There's No Chance Getting Hurt

After Miriam and Ronald Cheng's relationship, she has not found another suitable partner. Asked if she has been hurt too deep and afraid of getting into another relationship? Miriam said, "You look at me and will know I'm the type who don't know how to die! How would a woman with integrity be afraid of getting into a relationship? Life is short, to hurt is better than not having the chance to, I'm not afraid to get hurt another 10 times! Problem is it needs time and feel to find someone! The least he must not be afraid of flash lights because paparrazzis are all around. Now I don't even have time to sleep, where to find time for dating?"

Actually Miriam has friends who are concerned about her marriage and often matchmake for her but she always can't find one who suits her, "First of all, matchmaking in this era is quite old fashion. But my friends kept introducing new friends to me and asked me no harm trying to develop. But I think it's not like going supermarket to try food out, and walk away if I don't like. To develop a relationship needs time and contribution. Now I've signed a new company, I have no time for these. Let nature take it's course!"



Lin Jianyue - Don't Dare to Sign if Not Good

The proverb says "two tiger can't hide in one mountain". Lin Jianyue's company has 3 tigers - Miriam, Sammi Cheng and Denise Ho. How does he cope with that? "Basically the 3 of them has different styles in music and movies, I feel there isn't any conflict. If I don't have ways to help a singer to a higher level, I won't be signing. Just like Miriam, I used an amount only heaven knows to sign her back, of course I have to think of a long term development plan for her, to help her open up overseas market as much. As for letting her to enter A Music, is to obtain a balance between East Asia and A Music. I believe there will be sparks between Miriam and Leon."

"Minutes to Fame" Returns in March




TVB's talent show "Minutes to Fame" created a cult following after its release and TVB have confirmed a new series of the show will begin in March, with even better prize money and prizes and invitations to people from many different places. The hosts are planned to be Hacken Lee, Joey Leung and Miriam Yeung. Producer Chin Kwok Wai has confirmed that "Minutes to Fame" will be returning at the end of March and Hacken and Joey have been in negotiations, but details are yet to be finalised with the company.

Hong Kong Lyricist, Lin Xi, Talks About Some of Hong Kong's Top Singers

Lin Xi: I do not believe in inspiration

The Beijing News did a Q&A with Hong Kong lyricist Lin Xi (or Lam Jik, in Cantonese.)

Upset that I was not invited to Faye Wong's Wedding

Q: You are in Beijing this time because of the Olympic song, right?

A: Yes, in regards to the Olympics I am here to give my input. After attending an actual Olympic Games I have my feeling toward it, and I hope that my feelings are expressed through this production.

Q: There has been a lot of talk about whether the song should be in English or Chinese.

A: I find that this question has an easy answer. I have expressed my thoughts on this question in advance. Of course there should be a Chinese version where all of the Chinese people can sing. We will purposely write an English version so the other country's can understand and sing.

Q: You have written for many Kings and Queens of music. The most apparent singer is Faye Wong. This past year was probably Faye's biggest "non-music driven" headlines year. Since you are here, are you planning on visiting her to catch up on each other's lives?

A: She did not invite me to her wedding, and currently I am still upset. I have been friends with Faye for over ten years, I have watched her evolve through every stage of her career. Everytime she made a step towards success in her career, it meant I've made a step towards success in my career. Her interpretations have given me new ideas and I am grateful of her for that. Faye has never asked me to change the lyrics I have written. Even if she did not understand what I wrote and if I did not give her an explination, she will go ahead and sing the song and maybe understand the lyrics as she sings them.

Q: Faye just gave birth to another child, there have been many versions of whether she will return to singing. How do you feel?

A: I don't think she will release another album. Isn't it a shame? I think it's a shame. Not writing for her has cut my creativeness in half. But everything revolves around timing, she does not want to sing right now, but she might want to sing in a couple of years. I hope I can continue find people who I can feed off of. Working with Faye has given me a lot of emotions, EMI has never given Faye any pressure, and she has say in everything.

Eason Chan has ideas

Q: How to do view another skilled singer, "Karaoke King" Eason Chan?

A: I have worked with him for many years. Ever since 10 years ago, at the start of his career, I've helped him pen songs. At the beginning of his career he was an imitation singer, but he was a person who loved music and had ideas. He is a singer whose requirement is to understand lyrics before expressing them through singing, especially after getting married. In the past, after I finished writing for him, for example 十年, his job was to sing the song. But now, he has more and more ideas, and he must understand each and every word before he can sing the lyrics. He has his own methods of singing; through time, change, experience, and maturity, he has found his own methods of expressing lyrics. But of course, he has the foundation of singing skills that perhaps the common listeners do not realize. But once there is a song that is right for him, that performance is not something the common singer can achieve. However, his most lethal weapon is he does not reveal his real self (真人不露相), he understands how to use emotion to control skill.

Q: At many events and working with many female singers, you always mention, aside Faye Wong, that your favorite female singer is, "a piece of meat" (一塊肉) Miriam Yeung.

A: It is true, I have openly called her "a piece of meat" and I am bias to her. Whether it is her career or her love life, I care very much about them, as if she were my little sister. I will reason with her like if I were protecting her. She is always smiling and laughing in public, but it is just a form of performance. In front of me, she has cried and she is the artist that has cried the most in front of me. As for working with her, I feel I have written lyrics through every step of her career. I have used different perspectives to write the feelings of each harsh moment of hers, like if it were the flesh and blood experience. After switching to a new company I have found that I've written more safely for her. In the past, I have written more openly and more precise.

Miriam Hosted RTHK Awards and Ended Up Getting Teased By Eric Tsang





A special thing about the RTHK awards is singer Miriam Yeung being the host. This hints she won't be getting big awards in the show and will "sacrifice" her chance of singing on stage, but Miriam is still professional in hosting. She received an award in the opening (Top 10 Outstanding Singer), and while introducing guest Cai Qin on stage, she imitated her singing and caused fans to scream.

In the opening, Eric Tsang teased her figure. When Miriam wanted to announce the first song award and took a step foward to ask for music, Eric said, "You think you can change the run-down when you are the host?"

Justin and Hacken were asked on stage to present the 3rd song award. Another host teased Miriam and Justin's rumour. Justin joined in the fun, "When we first had rumours they said next time our child will be called 'Ovaltine'(oh wah tin)." Miriam and the host stopped Justin from promoting the brand further. When the host wanted to continue talking about their rumour, Miriam snatched the results from his hands and said, "Quickly announce the results!"

　　本屆頒獎禮的一個特別之處就是由歌手楊千嬅擔任晚會司儀，這暗示著楊千嬅可能無緣本次頒獎典禮的大獎，也意味楊千嬅著要“犧牲”掉在晚會演唱的機會。但現場的楊千嬅依然非常敬業的主持，忙的不亦樂乎。開場先領了個金曲獎，在請出頒獎嘉賓蔡琴的時候居然還“鬥膽”模仿蔡琴的經典歌曲，引起台下歌迷的瘋狂尖叫。

Miriam Yeung and Louis Koo hope to find love in the year of the fire pig.

The young-at-heart Miriam Yeung Chin Wah and Louis Koo Tin Lok always wanted to attend the New Year carnival event in Wanchai. Reporters at Appledaily made their wish come true this year and took them to an amusement park event.

During the photo shoot, fans shrieked in excitement when they realized Louis and Miriam were in the crowd. Some female fans also thought that Louis was on a "secret" date with Miriam and took photos of them using their cell phone cameras.

When reporters realized their compatible looks, they requested Louis and Miriam hug for several photos. But Miriam insisted, "I have known Louis for years! We are good friends and will meet up for dinner once in awhile!"

On the third day of Chinese New Year, Miriam says by eating dumplings, people will say sweet things.
In response to rumors about her fighting to be the "first sister" in East Asia with Sammi Cheng, Lin Jianyue joked that the two of them can film a movie. They could play roles of a big wife and a small wife. Miriam replied, "My boss is so funny. I am never a second wife in real life. I am the oldest sister in my family for over 30 years, but I don't mind playing a second wife because it'll be a big challenge."

"There are rumors and gossips everywhere. They can write whatever they want, most importantly they do not hurt anyone. The company is not a palace, I'm not a palace maid or concubine. Miriam is starting to prepare for her new album in Amusic. Leon Lai will be in charge of the production. "It's a breakthrough for me to sign on another singer. The producer of "Minutes of Fame" had confirmed the new season's hosts being Miriam and Sammy. There will be 10 episodes tentatively and starts recording about end of March. When asked if it's because the rumour Miriam's company not satisfied with Joey Leung Wing Chung and hence changing the host to Sammy, the producer replied he had always wanted to get Sammy. He had thought of pairing Hacken Lee and Miriam but felt that a host pairing with a singer is still better.

The year of the pig for Miriam is really a year of the "golden pig". Rumors said she received $40 million for joining East Asia! She will continue to earn big money this year, filming movie after movie and stepping into the Hong Kong coliseum once again for a concert.

Miriam rarely got 6 days of holiday. She accompanied to her parents to visit their relatives. Many seniors were surprised to see her, and some were touched and cried.

Miriam Denies Persuading Eason to Join East Asia

There were rumors saying Eason Chan offered to sign a contract with East Asia, but East Asia has spent a huge sum to sign Miriam, therefore rejected his offer. Miriam attended a event at Kwai Ching and she said she doesn't believe this news.

She thought it was perhaps she just finished a film with Eason, hence the media wrote about this. The gossip news also wrote that if Eason joins East Asia, it'll be like the the three treasures of Capital Artist era. Miriam was excited after hearing this, "Yes, good, I like that. When asked if she persuaded Eason to join East Asia before, Miriam replied, "I don't do such things, you think I'm not troubled enough? I'm an alien, I won't do so. RTHK's 18th TV Appreciation Survey was held. Miriam was one of the guest to present the awards.
Miriam presented an award to "Road Back" because she was an ambassador and visited the prison before. Miriam's favourite TV shows are "On the Road", "Police Magazine" and "Road Rack". She's also watching the Korean drama "My Girl". She prefers shows that are light-hearted rather than exciting shows like "Prison Break".

Minutes to Fame Auditions Finally Begins












Miriam attended the audition for "Minutes to Fame". Miriam has high expectations for the contestants. She had been the judge for one episode in the first season. She kept laughing and could only remember to buzz the contestant 20 seconds later. She thought it would be better this time round. When she participated in singing competition back then, she couldn't hear the bell buzz and kept on singing. She thought perhaps that's why she got through because of her thick skin.

Later on, Miriam got changed and attended a jewelry party and got sponsored 500 thousand worth of jewelry. Miriam prefers to collect watches and she had tried designing a watch herself. A lot of other celebrities were dressed sexy at the party. Miriam claimed she's not going for the sexy look and she was afraid the dress might slip off if she wore a low cut dress. When reporters asked why she didn't follow her boss Lin Jianyue to Thailand to visit White Dragon King, she replied she didn't know and she was at home praying to ancestors during the 15th of the lunar month. The boss didn't ask her to go and these things need fate sometimes.

White Dragon King's reply to Lin Jianyue regarding if he's artistes will be famous was "follow fate". Miriam thought life is predestined but it also takes hard work and opportunities. Miriam and Sammy recorded the first episode of "One Minute of Fame" yesterday night. Miriam were to perform turning towels with both hands and demonstrated at the praying ceremony. "Look at how inexperienced I am!" She invited a man who had filmed "Huo Yuan Jia" with Ekin Cheng, to perform bending metal stick with the neck and bursting wire with the body.

Miriam was afraid the wire would burst onto her face, "I still need to earn money with my face." Miriam and Sammy assisted the man when he performed and both of them looked tensed up and screamed.

Miriam will be hosting for 10eps because she has to accomodate to her movie promotion schedule. Miriam is afraid she will keep laughing and forget about ringing the bell for the contestants. She had rang the bell for a contestant after 90 seconds and let the contestant won 9000 dollars. The response for the first season was good, does Miriam have any pressure? Miriam said no because TVB has got her and Sammy, she believes TVB hope to give audience something fresh. Most importantly if she is committed, it will be nice to watch.

Artistes' relationship with fans are important. They need fans support but may sometimes fear the overly passionate fans. Recently, an Andy Lau fan from China came to Hong Kong with her parents, hoping the meet their idol but failed and used up their travel fee. The father who is over 70 years old, commited suicide by jumping into the sea at Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry, leaving behind his wife and daughter.

Being a pop idol, Miriam was shocked at this news, "What happened to the daughter? It's scary. They used up all their savings? There must be a reason behind. This is a tragedy. Usually when fans want to meet me, they will go through charity organisations like 'Dreams Come True' Foundation. I won't meet them during official working hours. Most importantly I know about it, if I don't know it'll be hard for me to meet them."

Lydia Sum Lookalike Appears on 'Minutes to Fame'

Miriam Yeung and Sammy Leung are hosting the new series of "Minutes to Fame" and the first episode was recorded earlier, with Leo Ku as the guest judge. The standard of contestants on the show was not bad, but the judges were very lenient and many of the contestants went away with high scores, even though there were some boring acts.

Among the contestants was Cheng Ying Ying who hailed from Malaysia, who appeared as a Lydia Sum lookalike, performing with a hula hoop and becoming the first episode winner with 95 seconds. Hong Kong's representative Lee Wing Fu impersonated Sam Hui and was sent away after 69 seconds. Cheng not only looked like Lydia, but also her actions and her laughter were very similar. As she sung, she did the splits, a backwards arch and other difficult moves and when she was finally stopped by the bell, she pouted in disappointment. When he saw this, Sammy commented: "I do love you, but I don't want to you work too hard." He then went on stage to try some of her actions with her and Leo joked that he was bringing his home life onto the stage.

Lee did well in his Sam Hui impersonation and Leo commented that Sam kisses his guests in his concerts and suggested that he should do the same. On hearing this, Lee approached Leo as if to kiss him and Sammy held Leo down allowing Lee to plant a kiss on his forehead. Miriam just laughed all the way through this. Afterwards, Leo described himself as the 'god of fortune', whilst Miriam said that she was helping TVB give away more money and had to be reminded by the producer that she had to send people off with the bell. She laughs that she is afraid she will get sacked soon.
