Frankie Lam's father died on the 14th of this month as a result of his Parkinson's Disease at the age of 76. Kenix Kwok revealed yesterday that although she was not at his bedside when he died, she has still done her part and this is all down to destiny.
Kenix says: "Because the doctors told us that my father-in-law could die at any time, Frankie and his brother, sister and family were all at the hospital, spending his last hours with him as he held onto the last moments late into the night. When the 'other halves' left the following morning for work, then he departed too, it is all fated. Hearing Frankie tell me that his father received a kiss from each of his three children before he died peacefully and going safely to heaven, everyone is comforted. Living to the age of 76, the Chinese would consider this as a 'smiling death'." She also feels that having succumbed to Parkinson's for a number of years, then maybe this can be considered as a release for her father-in-law. "I have been filming recently for 'Blossoming Hearts', but I will take time off for the funeral.

Kenix Kwok, Bernice Liu and Paul Chun were filming on location for "Blossoming Hearts" yesterday in a scene where Paul goes out with his two pregnant daughters and Bernice suddenly complains about pains. As Kenix hails a cab, she accidentally falls and her abdomen starts to hurt as well, leaving Paul in a state.
Having got married not long ago, Kenix will not be having children just yet due to her work and she will begin filming with her husband Frankie Lam in new series "Ten Brothers" shortly. When asked if they will begin 'making babies' after finishing filming for this show, she laughs: "We have to work hard to live all the time!" [Em: This is a Cantonese pun, 'living life' can be referred to as 'jo yan' when translated literally means 'making people' and translates into 'making babies'.]
Wearing a fake belly yesterday, Kenix commends the technology nowadays, making these props from polystyrene rather than the old type stuffed with handkerchiefs that were always changing shape. If she becomes pregnant, Kenix hopes to have 'dragon-phoenix' twins (1 male 1 female) like her idol Julia Roberts, whom she is very envious of. However, there is no history of having twins in either of their families. She says: "I wonder if science can allow you to choose to have non-identical twins, but I think I would rather do it naturally as it doesn't matter if we have a boy or a girl because female power is in vogue and if we have a daughter, we can steal someone else's son!" This is the first time that Bernice has played a pregnant woman, but her character is very bossy and is always shouting at her father. She laughs: "That is what pregnant women are like, because they have their husbands to take care of them." She adds that in the second half of the series, it tells of her having a second and third child with screen husband Moses Chan. To this, Bernice laughs: "Moses is really good at this!"
In real life, Bernice has loved kids since she was young and in the future, she plans to have seven children of her own. She says: "Originally I had planned to get married and have kids when I was 24, but this is impossible now because I am 25 this year. (You'll have to hurry, otherwise you will be very old by the time you have the seventh child!) I can have twins! I will find a husband that has a family history of twins." Bernice also says that most of her schoolfriends in Canada have already got married and had children and some have emailed her with photos of their children and made her very envious. After all, in the peaceful expanses of Canada, it is an ideal environment to have children.

The weather forecasters issued another extreme heat warning yesterday with temperatures in the thirties and with most people staying inside for the air conditioning, a thought was spared for the artistes filming on location and having to endure the hot weather. Michael Tao, Kenix Kwok and Bernice Liu were filming in Tsak Yu Chung in a promotional video for "Blossoming Hearts" and although they were all so hot that they could barely breathe, it was amazing to see that Michael was still wearing long sleeved clothing. Using up tens of tissues inn just half an hour, Michael caused concern as to whether he might succumb to heat stroke! He said: "Earlier we had to film a fight scene on the beach and I suffered from mild sunstroke, but I am too vain! (What is the best thing about your clothes?) My wife bought it so of course it is the best!"
The girls on the other hand were smart as they wore little tops to release the heat and when they weren't needed on set, they stood in the shade of an umbrella. Kenix laughs: "If you are dry-fried then of course you will suffer from the sun! If I am not needed on set, I will sit in the car and enjoy the air con!" Bernice also has her mother's ginseng honey water to help with the heat.

Despite the days when Edward Mok Ka Yiu acted as guarantor for his then girlfriend Amy Chung Wai Yee before she fled to America leaving him having to work himself to the bone to pay off the mounting debt, he has still been willing to lend money to his friends. He says this is not because he is rich, but because he gives in too easily to his friends. As for Kenix Kwok, before she entered the industry, she also lent money to her friend for an emergency, but it was never returned and she even lost her friend, so after entering showbiz, she never lends money to anyone.
Edward, Kenix and Chiu Ching Yee were filming for "Blossoming Hearts" earlier in a scene where Edward swindles money from both the women, but they see him getting his just desserts as his own money is taken from him by Lam Suk Man and decide to seek their own revenge by beating him up and making him run. In reality, it was Edward who was sold out by Amy Chung, but yet he still stands boldly to help his friends as his current loans to friends amass a five figure sum.
Edward laughs: "Maybe the script is following my story, but I have forgotten about the incident now anyway. When you lend money out, then you are resigned to never seeing it again, but I am too soft and end up giving in. From today onwards I will not lend anyone any money!" He also gives advice to newcomers that they should save money when they have it and rather eat it than lend it to friends, because the most likely cause of friends to fall out is over money.
Kenix also has an experience where she lent a friend a six figure sum before she entered showbiz. She says: "I am a person who will help when I can and I used to sell insurance so I made some money. A friend needed an operation, so I lent them the money I had worked so hard to save, but not only did they not give it back, they even decided not to be my friend any more. Dodo (Cheng) is right, chasing a debt is harder than asking for a loan, so after entering the industry, I have never lent anyone any money because no-one will believe that artistes can be poor. Although people have asked, I have said no because this is my principle."
